Hi Guys, My wife and I have recently set up our own shop called ‘The Model Room’ in Papakura, Auckland, where I build on commission, along with selling models and supplies. I’ve been working on this 1/32 North American P-51 factory diorama for a while, and decided to set it up to see where the holes are, how things are going to fit etc. Here’s where progress is at at the moment. I’ve since been asked by the customer to add 2 more Mustangs to the diorama to fill it out. I’ve got 100 Masterbox figures (factory workers) to modify and put on it, along with all of the tool boxes, tools, compressors, ladders, scaffolding light fittings etc. All of the lights are LED and will work. The completed Mustang rolling off the production line will be number 10000, and will have signatures all over it. I have asked a lot of my customers and friends to sign a piece of paper for me, which I will then scan into my computer and print out as a decal to put over the aircraft. A unique way of getting customers involved with the build. Needing a quick bit of comic relief between big projects, I decided to take to this rather old Revell kit, and try to make something of it. I was rather impressed with the kitset. It fits well, required minimal sanding, and hardly any filler. I've used the Print scale decals, which were extremely thin, to the point I wrecked a few trying to get them in place. However the schemes on the sheet made the nervous wreck I quickly became, all worthwhile. Enjoy, Regards, Alan

Here is my honest attempt at Trumpeters 1/32 Super Hornet. A very nice model to build, plenty of detail, so I built it straight from the box. Trumpeter give you the option of a large selection of ordinance which I really liked. Regards, Alan

Hi everyone. This is the old Academy 1/72 kitset. It's spent the last 10 years of it's life on the shelf of doom. So whilst it's not my best model, it's off the shelf and finished, which I'm pleased with. I've done heaps of scratch building and modifying on this model, including: Scratch built rear fuselage interior Custom positioned figures in each station Quickboost engines, which I've put ignition harnesses on each engine Plunge moulded plexiglass front nosecone. Custom made decals (thanks Peter Mossong) Vacuum formed ball turret- complete with figure inside Detailed guns with sights Shallowing out the dihedral on the wings, which is a known issue with the Academy kit Scratch built leading edge intakes, as they are excluded on the kit Hollowed out gun barrels Hollowed out exhausts Enjoy, Regards, Alan

This is the Revell 1/72 Airbus A400M. I have enjoyed this one, it’s been a fill in, in between commission projects, so has taken 12 months on and off to complete. It’s now done and I’m grateful to have some bench space back. I can’t speak highly enough of this kit. It’s really nicely detailed, with full interior, all the fans and ducting for the engines are there too, and I had no fit issues. I’ve used Gunze acrylic paints, which as always went down well, metal colours are Alclad. The propellers were the most daunting, as I’ve painted the yellow, black, silver and dark grey, and then applied all the decals. There is about 10 hours work in the propellers alone. I also masked and painted all of the walkways and stencilling on top of the aircraft. The decals are homemade. I saw a photo of ‘City of Bristol’ and had to do that scheme. I’m fairly pleased with it. It’s a huge model to store, but certainly draws attention to itself in the cabinet. I’m very pleased Kinetic have announced a 1/72 C-17 which I’m sure one day will look fantastic next to the A400M- watch this space! Regards, Alan

I've noticed several C-46 Commando's this week show up, so thought I'd share mine. I finished it a few years back, and it's still one of my favourites. The Williams Bros kit I felt needed a bit of work. Here's some of the mods I did: -Scratch built engine mounts -Scratch built open cowl flaps -Scratch built exhausts, all the way to the back of the radial engine -Thinned out and opened up cooling holes in the cowlings -Scratch built ignition harness for Quickboost upgraded engines -Propellers were shortened Marauder propellers -Scratch built wheel wells- these were non existent -Scratch built tail wheel section (I used sanded down spitfire wheels for the tail wheel) -Main wheels were resin casts of the Valom Albermarle wheels, home made -Lights had bulbs put in place -Side windows were reverse mounted, then sanded to match fuselage- it was very hard to then have to drill holes in each one for the machine guns to mount through -Vac formed canopy -Scratch built cockpit interior -Scratch built aerials and antennas all over the place. -Full rescribe -Homemade decals. I'm sure there was more I did to it, but that gives you an idea to the work put into it. I hope you enjoy the pictures. Alan

Excluding 1/350 aircraft for ships, this is possibly the smallest model I have completed. This is the excellent Valom 1/144 Sopwith Pup. The moulding is very crisp. It includes a cockpit, which is very small and didn't quite fit without a shave around the edges. It includes 4 markings options, which give a variety colour options. The wing struts, and landing gear are photo etch, which was really easy to use in this scale. I frayed 'Rig-it', which is a lycra thread, down to a single thread and used super glue to apply the rigging. It took about 3 hours to rig. I'm pretty impressed with the model. It was a 3 day build. Now, Back to something full sized. Regards, Alan
