  1. Revell's first release of their A330-300 was back in 1993 with the Demonstrator markings. I still had them in my stash since childhood.As I had 4 A330s ,I decided to use that set on one of them since they still looked usable. I should be proven otherwise.... They were very stiff,brittle and showed no response to any decal softener.Applying them was a real pain in the a... After clear coating them 3 times with Future,they finally stayed on the model but I was not too happy with the result. In the end,I painstakingly hand brushed the blue on each decal with Revell 54 blue to enhance the shine and overall quality,then clear coated it again with Future. It looks a lot better than before. The white is Gunze primer 1500. Thanks for looking Alex
  2. Another conversion,this time a A330-200 in LTU livery. I had the LTU issue of the Revell A330-300 in my stash but I wanted to do the -200. Some years ago I bought the BRAZ resin fin and tailplanes for the A330-200 so while I was already hacking up the A340 I made the conversion on the A330 as well. Same procedure as with the A340,both types have the same measurements. Paints are Gunze white primer 1500 for the white parts and Revell red 31. Instead of using the red stripe provided on the Revell decal,I airbrushed everything,which gives better results and saves cutting down the decals.Only the letters and logos,doors and letters for the registration are from the decal set.The rest comes from the spares box and other Airbus A330/340 kits. While researching the type,I came across a pic with one of those Airbuses having a white radome.Hence I took that up as well. Thanks for looking Alex
  3. This is the original Revell boxing with the colourful Aer Lingus decals. The kit is now quite hard to find and on some well known sites sold for astronomic prices. I had it in my stash for many years but cant remember where I got it from. As I went through my A330/A340 serial build,this was build simultaneously with the others. Despite its age,the kit is very nicely detailed and the decal set is superb as well. Lots of details and very nicely printed.If I remember correctly,it was done by NAZCA. The top of the fuselage was painted with Revell emerald green,unfortunately the pictures show it much darker as it really is. The white is my well proven Gunze primer 1500. Aer Lingus has/had obe of the most attractive liveries,so this is a nice addition to my Airbus fleet. Thanks for looking Alex
  4. I feel like this skirts the definition of scale modelling that this forum pertains to, but I suppose this project uses many of the same skills involved. Please delete or move if this doesn't belong here. I've had an itch to build a 1/144 A330 for a while, but given the high price and shipping of the Authentic Airliners A330, and the rarity of the Revell kit, I decided to just repaint one into the colors I wanted. This is the Hogan 1/200 Saudia A330-300 that I'll be repainting into the old Cathay Pacific colors with registration B-HLV. Hogan provides a relatively detailed model to start with, and the snap-fit nature of it means that it's easy to work on different components separately. This is what the model looked like before stripping: In the time before the physical work of stripping and repainting started, I went to work on the decals for the model, all of which will be printed at home. After sizing and resizing over and over to fit the model, the decals were all finished recently, probably the most difficult aspect of the entire job: (It's low-res because this was just a screenshot off of Photoshop) And the fuselage and tail were recently stripped completely of paint after a decal test that ensured all of them lined up: I think the rest of this half-build will blow by fast. I've been thinking of adding the antennas and other detail along the top of the fuselage, but the issue would be where to get the measurements for those. I'm not sure if those modifications are worth making in 1/200, to be honest.
  5. Hello all, Can't remember when I started this, a few months ago but I've finally finished it! A couple of times I nearly threw it away!! It's the Revell A330 with the old Airbus house markings boxing. I'm not sure what the Aer Lingus etc boxing ones are like, but this one was really ropy so I hope the later ones are improved! That or it may be the fact it was a bad apple from the start and throughout, both problems with the kit and problems I done, it was badly jinxed! 1. I put the nose gear the wrong way round, didn't notice until near the end when I put the wheels on, so it's not in the right place but too late to fix it! 2. The landing wheel detailing bit's were useless, and the axles snapped so had to glue the wheels to the gears! 3. The front nose gear snapped in half, had to glue that back together which wasn't easy! 4. I totally stuffed up painting the engine cowlings white, it's come out rather lumpy 5. I didn't realise the rear light blue decal goes through the horizontal stabilizers, I only noticed after I already glued them in!! So had to cut the decal to fit around the stabilizers with some help! 6. The wing fit left a noticeable gap, filled it with krystal clear so I could paint over it, then I couldn't remember what paint I used for the wing, so I left it, I can't be bothered to fix it 7. The extra decals I used for the stenciling wasn't easy, some of the numbers in the instructions didn't match the decal sheet, or some numbers were missing leaving you to work it out! 8. A fair amount of filling was required, even I managed to stuff some of it up! 9. Small decal bit's ended up in the water monster, so didn't bother with those in the end 10. I used a dark grey on the top of the wing, as I say can't remember what colour, but I'm not sure it's right to be honest?? BUT here it is, finished, and to me look's like an A330. I used Liveries Unlimited 'Air Inter' decal sheet, along with the Thai Airway's sheet from Revell's other A330 kit for the stenciling. Thanks for looking!   6. Airbus A330-200 Gulf Air Reg A9C-KA - New Livery Concept! Kit - Revell Thai A330-300 1/144 scale Engines - Braz 2 x RR Trent 700 Decals - F-DCAL 787 Dreamliner Gulf Air This model started life a rather shabby Air Mauritius and this was the original conversion from the -300 to the -200. Engines were different again from the original kit. thanks for looking!
  7. This was the first model i ever built (as an adult) about 3 years ago. The kit was the Revell Thai a330-300 kit and although my first model I wanted to do something different and convert it to the shorter 200. The fuselage pieces were cut out and the tail was removed (replaced with the slightly larger braz tail for the 200. Once I had decided on Air Mauritius I purchased the GE engines from Hannants (I still have the PW ones) I made a decent job of the modelling but after a while I realized that the paint job sucks - although initially it looked acceptable. The decals were my own and now look tired and faded. I also committed a faux pas and littered it with every transfer available (i probs only use 25% of the transfers now including the doors) I also did an awful job of the windows..... using clear glue to form a transparent window (what was I thinking). Time to restore and save this I reckon. paintwork is awful now. those windows will need filled You can make out the fuselage join from where its been shortened and put back together. I also wouldn't fancy the pilots to see much out the cockpit window the other fuselage join is visible and i also lost part of the undercarriage doors so theyll need scratch built from reference shots. also made a crude attempt to put this on a display stand - that'll need tidied up Stage 1 - remove paint work Im using brasso to thin the paint, its a bit time consuming but dont want to weaken the plastic below using paint stripper. Getting there anyway. Cockpit glass removed and some windows. There is glue residue in most of the windows that will take some effort to remove.

Regards, Andrew Edit: it says it's a reissue of the old Aer Lingus boxing, which had GE engines, but presumably it will have the PW engine sprue too - as far as I can tell Thai have only had PW and RR engines on their 330s?
  9. Hello everyone Well, first of all i would like to claim myself a beginner. This is my second kit after a pause of 12 or so years (i remember almost nothing from those times except some details have to be painted before glueing). I mean i'm still learning. This is actually the first time i used putty, extensive sanding and a bit of weathering. Here i should stop whining. Basically it is built out of the box except for that it's a conversion of the A340 bloody 'Wiener Philarmoniker' (for some reason noone chooses to build SAS scheme). The Trents are from the Braz models. This was also the first time i worked with resin hence one of my major mistakes - the engine inlets of the trents are quite decently tilted, while mine are upright. The choice of the gear up attitude was obvious as i have to hang the models to the ceiling. I was too scared to try making flaps down, besides main gear bogies are again decently tilted in flight. Oh, and another major mistake is a tricky fuselage color, too yellowish to me. Everything was spray-painted. The decal were from Revell plus a little help from the Draw decals. The weathering was done according to the a.net images which show the A330 SAS fleet surprisingly dirty. Here we go The next oncoming is a baby bus a Revell's A319 with Bearbus Germanwings scheme (i'm considering not to post work in progress as there are dozens already here) Thanks, Steve
