  1. Hi all, it has been a productive weekend, spent half a day on the spray booth and completed some final steps of two Starwars projects. Here is one of them, the A-Wing. You can find the WIP info here Here are the final outcome, hope you like it.
  2. Hello everyone, here is my work in progress A-Wing. Test fit in an hour. Trial build is almost done Surface details is really nice After that, unassembled the kit, and applied Finishers green putty to smoothen some surface area on the fuselage. Rest of the parts are washed, and prepare for paint shop. The pilot seat has a large connector to "click" in the pilot, since I am not doing the pilot (as usual, what's new), the connector is removed and sanded before proceeding further. Sand the surface again, and seem it is smooth enough. Black primer time Followed by a colorful pre-shading
  3. Hi all 😎 This is the 1996 re-box of the original tooling released by MPC in 1983. Kit is built straight out-the-box. Base colour Halfords white primer (spray can). Display stand Halfords satin black (spray can). All other colours and weathering hand/brush painted with Humbrol enamels with some scuffing using a worn out piece of 3M super-fine sanding sponge. Model originally started in mid 1990's but not completed before the hobby was put to one side due to work and family commitments. At the time, the bulk of the paintwork was completed using a paused VHS copy of RoTJ for referencing. Finished (finally!) late 2020 by completing the cockpit, pilot and canopy, with some minor touching in due to 20+ years storage damage. Comments always welcome 😊 Cheers!
  4. Hello everyone! Another model to add to my growing Star Wars collection, another RFI - this time it is Bandai's 1/72 A-Wing that I completed last week. I finally understand the hype surrounding Bandai's Star Wars kits, even more so than the T-70 (Resistance) X-Wing that I completed last year, this kit was an absolute joy to build! The engineering is brilliant and it can be completed in an afternoon without needing a drop of paint or glue, while still being not only a faithful representation of the studio model from Return of the Jedi but also a very solid build, without any loose parts falling off. Everything from the multicolor sprues, the box art, even the instructions, is top notch quality. The Death Star gun tower is an added bonus! Having decided that I won't be building an exact replica of the studio model but another similarly colored A-Wing that fought at Endor. I started by masking several of the odd out-of-place red panels (molded in colored plastic) and sprayed them with an enamel Revell matt white, then I pre-shaded the panel lines and sprayed the white-molded parts to get the same shade everywhere. The red panels just received a good panel wash. I sprayed the inside of the engines with Mr. Color RLM 04 yellow but several small streaks went around my masks and onto the white tail surfaces; so, I masked again and carefully resprayed the white panels. Incidentally, it resulted in a nice, gentle yellow gradient that looks like a decent representation of engine glow! Overall, I went for a decidedly less weathered look than my Fine Molds X-Wings using only a small brush to simulate paint chipping on the red panels, and I masked several panels and sprayed them grey as if they were changed due to battle damage. One small mishap was caused by my airbrush when it splattered a black flake of paint on the starboard panels during the final matte coating process; the black dissolved and looked like a blast mark. Not being content with having a blast mark on a Star Wars model (...), I gently sanded down the affected panels, sprayed them matt white and redid the entire weathering. There's a barely noticeable difference in the shade of the panels if you look closely but I decided to stop trying to fail myself and accept it's a Rebel fighter - they always look cobbled together! Still struggling to get good photos with my old camera and poor lighting... hope you enjoy, comments and criticism welcome!
  5. Hi to all. This is my recent finish, an old MPC kit. Is quite spartan, positive panels but easy to asemble, is a snap kit. I only added some detalis for the pilot. I tried extensive use of pre shading effect. I finished with Testors and Tamiya paints. I hope you like it. Regards, Pablo
  6. I'm just going to sneak this in here if I may.... Haven't done much painting in the past few months, but after finally finishing off a PR Mossie have been getting into the swing of things again. Decided to make a start on this in between tackling a Tamiya Corsair. As you'd expect, there's not many parts But with it being Bandai it's beautifully moulded and engineered. Although there's two in the box, I'll just be doing one of them to start with. Still toying with the paint scheme to go for, but I'm leaning towards something similar to the markings seen in Ralph McQuarries artwork Aaron
  7. Hi folks - I see there’s been a lot of A-wing related content on here recently so I hope you still like Rebel starfighters that have that particular designation😂 I’m building this Bandai kit in an effort to do something different. I’ve just built ww2 fighters since I got back into the hobby and wanted to do something that didn’t have camo on it. I’ve had this kit in my stash for months so this fit the bill... Instead of doing an A-wing with that colour scheme (you know the one) I wanted to do something that was abit different- as in not necessarily canon - so mine is going to be a blue a-wing - more in line with a war wary F 16 crossed with a P 47... if that makes sense... it will still be an A-Wing with those sweet sports car lines but just a bit funky. I saw this colour scheme displayed at a model show and thought that it looked amazing... so this will be my take on it... it's basically going to be blue and cream with a steel metal finish on the engine nacelles. So started ripping bits off the sprue: After a brief clean, they were ready for priming - gotta love Bandai 👍 I used tamiya fine primer for this - sprayed from an airbrush... After 20 minutes these guys are ready for paint. Constructed and painted the cockpit tub: Nowhere near as nice as other people’s efforts I’ve seen on here but it does the job... Forgot to take pictures of this next bit but basically I started with the main shell - upper and lower airframe and preshaded the panel lines with tamiya sea blue - which is a very dark green blue colour... then put down a very thinned cost of the base colour which was white with a tiny drop of tamiya medium blue - and a tiny drop of flat earth... for the blue parts I did the same process using a mix of tamiya medium blue and flat blue... I was really happy with the blue tone I got here - it’s a very nice colour - deep but vibrant. I was happy with the cream colour too - it came out more a grey blue but it works... The following night I masked some bits off and started on the metal finish parts. I used Vallejo metal colour for these - colour is steel. I tried to highlight the panel lines with dull aluminum- used tamiya x21a to thin it but it didn’t work particularly well... To judge how I was going I put the bird together- as it’s a snap fit, I can do that... Coming along but really I wasn’t happy with those engine nacelles- it was the colour I wanted but not the result. I wanted them to shine a bit more. So the next day, I hit them with some Alclad airframe aluminum... just focusing on the centre of the panels... Much better - really like how these turned out - pretty much exactly what I was after - which almost never happens so... result👍 That's it for now. Amazing how quickly you can advance these kits - basically no build time - just painting happiness 😀 More coming soon... Cheers John
  8. I've had a couple of Bandai's Vehicle Model kits sitting around half finished for much of this year (a state that's been all too common with several of my builds in 2018). I'm currently trying (probably in vain) to get several projects wrapped up before the end of the year and, as these didn't require all that much work, they were the first to get finished. A-Wing Vehicle Model 010 Up first is the little 1/144 A-Wing, finished in the red/white movie scheme. The weathering on this is a little rougher than I'd like, but it is what it is, and at least I've got it done. You do get a pair of these in the box and the second one is built but not painted yet. I've modified the guns, rear fins and engine nozzles slightly, and it'll be finished in a non-movie scheme that's yet to be determined. AT-M6 Vehicle Model 012 The second completed build is the First Order Walker from TLJ. It scales out roughly at 1/550, so it doesn't really fit in with any of the other Bandai releases which is a shame (or not, if you don't like the subject). There's not a lot you can do with something that's entirely grey, especially at this scale, but I've tried to vary the tone a bit and pick out some of the panels. The finish isn't entirely accurate (the grey should be quite a bit darker), but it turned out reasonably well. Thanks for looking Andy
  9. Hi everyone. I hope you've all had a great Christmas. I've started a new model over the last few weeks; an AMT/ERTL A-Wing. It's quite a basic kit out of the box, and i'm planning to do very little in the way of customisation. Having said that, the two parts I like the least are the raised panel lines, and the terrible pilot. I've never tried scribing panel lines before, but I'm giving it a go on this one. In several places I've slipped and messed up, so had to fill I'm a few bits and pieces, but even though it's a bit clumsy in places, it still looks better than raised lines. The pilot is taken from a set of Hasegawa pilots, not exactly screen accurate, but better scaled, and far better detail. Work so far: The pilot will be painted in screen accurate colours, even though he's not screen accurate himself. Please excuse the rather questionable posing of the arms, with the pilot being larger than the one provided in the kit (this one is better for the size of the ship) I've had to make sure that arms fit into the available space. Thanks for looking folks.
  10. Bandai's latest addition to their Star Wars range. For my money this is the best one they've done so far, with the fit being perfect, and the breakdown of parts being completely logical. This one isn't lit but it would be a pretty simple job to do, as Bandai have conveniently moulded the engine inserts in clear plastic. The included Turbolaser turret is the icing on the cake. OK, it's not to scale with the A-Wing, but that would have been unfeasible anyway, but it makes a great display piece in it's own right. Everything's painted predominantly with a mix of Gunze and Tamiya and weathered with AMMO and AK enamels and oil paints. Oh, and of course there's International Man of Mystery, Mr Flatty, seen here with his somewhat low rent sidekick Nigel the Mouse Droid Thanks for looking Andy
