Well, having finally sorted myself out & found all the bits I thought I had, but couldn't find, here's my entry for my first GB: It's the well known Airfix kit, with 3D Kits Mk.II LR conversion, to which I hope to add the Quickboost seat & Pavla improved parts. I may leave off the Pavla vacform canopies as I've only once tried to use one of these & it didn't end well!

For this group build, I thought that it might be better to thin the stash a little, rather than add to it with more purchases, so I decided not to buy the AZ kit. Instead, I have opted to go for the Mk IID conversion set, produced by 3D Kits a couple of years ago. (I understand that the firm in question is no longer in operation, which is a great pity) This was before Stosh65 went for the AZ kit, which he is building OOB. Should be an interesting comparison..... This is the 3D Kits conversion kit (which I picked up at Telford a few years back):- It not only provides the cannon, but also suitable decals. Then the question was - which mainstream Mk IIC kit to use? I have five or six of the Revell ones, and three of the Academy kits, and two of the recent Airfix kits. All have their plusses and minuses.... Interestingly, the 3D conversion mentions the recent Airfix Mk IIc kit, but then a lot of commentators say that that kit is a bit of a dog, so I have opted to go for a bit of an "old school" modelling challenge, and "adapt" the Academy kit. My "adaptation" will be to attempt follow Tony O'Toole's article in SAM, back in January 2006, by widening the fuselage of the Academy kit with styrene and filler, and then to use a vac-form canopy. As it happens, the accessories section of my stash had the old Aeroclub vac-form canopy, so that is what I am going to use. Here is this canopy:- It will be my first attempt at a vac-form canopy, so wish me luck!! Philip

Finished this one today for a group build over on another forum, based around the Lend Lease program. What ive built is the Airfix Hurricane IIc kit but ive used the 3d Kits conversion to convert it in to a IID. Ive also used AML decals to do a nice russain scheme for the model. The kit itself is a lovely kit and just falls together, the only big down side is the small prop. The 3d Kits conversion is nice simple to use and is nicely detailed, i would well recommend it to anyone. The AML decals were lovely to use to. I used humbrol and revell paints through out. Overall it was an easy build and im really happy with the finshed product. Enjoy, Tom

Hello everyone, hope you all had a nice weekend. Posting my latest build for you. 1/72 Airfix Spitfire, was going to be a quick clean build but after I dropped it and broke both the aerial masts I changed my mind and roughed it up a bit, not sure if roughing up this particular aircraft is historically correct but hey ho. I've used the 3D-Kits Rotol Spitfires MkI & II set, it included a new seat, control column plus the decals and Rotol prop, they all seemed to work very well. This aircraft was from 54 Squadron, Hornchurch in March 1940. Paints used were a mix of Gunze, Citadel, Tamiya and Vallejo plus washes from Flory models, Mig and Citadel. Hope the pictures are ok, using google web albums for the first time. Thanks for looking and all comments welcome. Cheers...
