  1. I predict I will be wrapping up the Seahawk either today or tomorrow so I should get this one out of the hanger and onto the tarmac. I think this might be the second Hunter of the GB, and I will kill two birds with one stone by using it to chip away at my Personal Build of 19 Sq. aircraft as well. To clarify things...I have no connection to 19 Sq. at all. It all started when I built the BAe Hawk way back during a GB and used the commemorative livery. It just snowballed. It's fun. Anyway...Xtradecal has a superb set of decals I have been dipping into when necessary although plenty of kits have 19 Sq. represented already. Anyway...19 Sq. flew the the Hunter F Mk.6 from October '56 to February '63. This one is from '58. Here's the kit... And here's the profile... More anon...must clear the bench a bit first! --John
  2. While I wait for something to arrive in the post for my Mig-25 I might as well begin another of my 19 Squadron Personal Build Project. For those who don't know, this project began back when we had the Bae Hawk static build and I built the commemorative aircraft. So I thought, "why not more 19 Squadron?" So it started. The Forum is littered with these builds, so search for them if you want. I have no personal connection to 19 Squadron whatsoever. I'm just having fun. This is the Gloster Gauntlet from RAF Duxford, June 1935. The decals are from the 19 Sq. set from Xtradecal. Here's the boxtop... The sprue... And the very nice profile. There we go. I'll dig in today, I hope, or tomorrow. --John
  3. I have a 19 Sqn RFC SPAD VII over here... I'll let that one sit for a bit while I continue my 'Personal 19 Sq Build' and dovetail it with this GB. I'll start in a a bit, maybe this weekend. I hadn't seen that this GB had even begun! I hope there are not overwhelming airframe differences between the F Mk.8 and the Mk. 8...If there are, please suspend disbelief! 😁 Sprue shots coming... -John
  4. OK! Back at it! Some more from 19 Sq. and a relatively new kit from AZ Model. First blush looks alright. I'll get into it later this week. Pretty box art... Clean looking plastic parts and decals... And a simple profile to manage... --John
  5. Now that I have wrapped up my Group Build commitments for 2021 I have time on my hands until the next round of insanity in 2022. 19 days, to be precise. Plenty of time to work a bit on my 19 Squadron Project. For those of you who don't know, I became interested in 19 Squadron last year and have been slowly building their aircraft. It was during the Hawk STGB when I built the commemorative aircraft in the Spitfire colours. So it began...Now I have some time, etc...here's what I have to work with... I know 19 Sq didn't fly the F3. I have done a bit of research and aside from some internal differences (avionics/motor) there is no huge external differences between the F1/2 and the F3. Except the tail fin. Here are two nice profiles that I did not draw or paint myself but rather took from Wings Palette. I am not sure of their original provenance. I have resampled the images to show the copyright information as we do here on The Forum...Clavework Graphics. I think I can adjust the fin on the Airfix kit to replicate the F/2 I wish to build. The decals are from Model Alliance, Electric Lightnings Part 4. Sprue... If you look closely you can see I have already marked out what I need to do with the fin at the bottom of the image. Looks good to me! --John
  6. Here I go again...another 19 Sq build and, I hope, one of three Spitfires I'll be building for my project. I've not built the Tamiya Spitfire before so this is a new kit for me. It looks pretty good so far from what I have seen. The decals will be from the Xtradecal sheet that had the Hawk commemorative flight. Is this will be with no registration and a big '19' on the rudder. Very cool. There is loads of great research on this aircraft and I will include some good links here... https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/87251 http://spitfiresite.com/2007/09/early-spitfire-mk-i-no-19-squadron.html ...and of course, Digby with the poorly placed fence that ended this aircraft's very short career. http://www.raf-lincolnshire.info/digby/digby_crashes.htm So, there are some issues with the kit, namely that it doesn't have a two-bladed prop, which this aircraft probably had fixed onto its Merlin II. I'll have the fix that somehow. Also, the sources say it probably had a Night/Day underside with the control surfaces kept aluminum dope for weight reasons. The decal sheet has the whole underside in aluminum. I'll go for the Night/Day look and keep the flaps NMF. So, that's it for now. I'll start in on her sometime this weekend. Here's some pictures to start... Sprue, etc...later... --John

It looks pretty good so far from what I have seen. The decals will be from the Xtradecal sheet that had the Hawk commemorative flight. 8. Here she is...my first and, I hope, not my best or last Lightning. The WiP is here...I'm used to posting in the GB sections as these builds take up moat of my time. My first finished build of the New Year...and another addition to my 19 Sq Project. Here is what I built so far...Dolphin, Snipe, Bulldog, Hawk and Lightning. More 19 Sq to come! --John
  9. Hello everyone... I would like to present another build that has been slowly working up in the background. Its the 1/48 P-51 kit from Airfix, its an ok kit in my estimation but there are some issues that turn me off with it. The internal inserts around the rear radiator duct didn't fit well and actually bulged out on the exterior of my fuselage. The separate vertical stabilizer didn't want to fit well, along with the wing gun inserts. But most annoying is the atrocious fit of the clear canopy pieces. No matter how much fiddling, filling or sanding I just couldn't get the windscreen piece to fit square on the fuselage. In the end I gave up. The blown canopy is about a scale foot to wide to be posed open and doesn't sit well over the radio gear once the arch support installed. Again in the end I gave up as Im tired of fighting the kit. Its a shame to be totally honest as I had received the Markings from @invidia. Now I fudged a little on my side also. Its the P-51D boxing as I couldn't find the K. So it doesn't have the cuff-less prop. Though I did follow the K’s instructions to get everything else correct. So without further complaining I present Mustang Mk.IV KM272 QV*V “Dooleybird”. Please feel free to ask questions, post comments, and or add thoughts. Dennis PS - I have repainted the yellow as of 2023 and will update this post with new photo’s soon.
