  1. G'day folks. This is my fastest build in a LONG time. This is the ubiquitous P-40B by Airfix in 48th scale. Flown by Sergeant William Earl Houston (RNZAF). This is GA-O (AK457) from 112 Squadron RAF during their time in North Africa. I'm quite chuffed with the way this one turned out. I put a lot more into the weathering in the way of Faber-Castel water colours, AK Interactive weathering pencils, pigments, washes and filters. Normally I'm a bit dialled back with weathering but made an effort to push it beyond what I'd normally do. I hope the result speaks for itself. The only thing I'm not happy with is the size of the thread used for the aerial rigging. I think I'll go up in size next time as it's too fine for 48th. It was a privilege to build a machine flown by a Kiwi cousin. The minutia... 2. Good evening everyone... I finished up several builds in the last few days. These two 1/72 Sword KittyHawks were gifted to me by @Procopius a while ago and I built them in the “They also Served” year long group build. The first represents GA*G FR295, though sword got the info correct it never served in Italy. I will paraphrase the source. “The aircraft took off at 15:45 for an escort mission on March 10th 1943, Fl/Officer Bruce at the controls. In the course of the ensuing dogfight the plane never returned” interesting to note was that 112 Squadron never assigned the code “G” code again.” The second of the pair represents a 2 Squadron S.A.A.F. KittyHawk in North Africa late 1942. Please feel free to ask questions, post comments, and or add thoughts. I will add a link to the build thread if you would lije to take a look through it. Dennis
  3. G'day all. We had our annual show last weekend and as it happens every year, the motivation and enthusiasm was renewed after catching up with mates and seeing some fantastic models on the competition table and club displays. So of course I went home and started a model. I built the Airfix Defiant two years ago and had a great time building it so opted for the new(ish) 1/48 Airfix P-40B Tomahawak. I've picked up some extras over the last month so started on it last week. Yesterday was Father's Day here in Oz so I managed a few hours to myself amongst all of the carry on with my own kids, catch up with my dad and my wife's dad. Considering it's the kit cockpit, I'm happy with how it turned out. The only thing I'm not sure on is the amount of time spent on the HGW seatbelts, I don't think I'll bother with them again. Everything else is just detail painting, washes and some pigments. The instrument dials are kit decals with heaps of Microsol applied to get them to suck down onto the embossed dials. Followed by Tamiya X-22 for the instrument glass. The only thing missing are the gun breeches for the two nose mounted 50 cal guns. The fuselage goes together tonight. Cheers, Mick
  4. I am planning to make AN218 "Menace", a 112 Sqn Tomahawk IIb, as a holiday project. It is from the 2012 Battle of el Alamein gift set which Airfix did for Modelzone. The painting instructions very distinctly stipulates that the spinner is to be painted white, however most references seem to say that this squadron's aircraft had red spinners. Similarly, the one picture I have been able to track down suggests to me that the spinner is darker than the underside. http://www.scalemates.com/profiles/mate.php?id=14121&p=albums&album=19078 Does anyone know of any definitive evidence on this point? Many thanks, Anthony
