  1. OK...the bench seems quiet now that I have wrapped up the German Recon set over on another GB. I think I'll add in another Spitfire, this time a high-altitude Mk. VIII with American stars... Good looking decals... The sprue...many of these pieces I will not be using. This is also a Profilepack but I might skip some of the PE... I have built a few of these Eduard Spits before so I am not expecting any surprises--tight fits, true... I'll get into it later when it cools off a bit here. A brisk 37C outside right now... --John
  2. Here we go again...back into the fray...the salt mines calleth...nose>>>grindstone. This one will be snazzy, I hope. 1945, near Leningrad. Lt. Col. V.A. Matsyevitch and his Spitfire LF Mk. IXe. This is another AZ Model kit and, despite the razzing of others, I do enjoy the AZ Model line and have a nice solid self full of them. Any rivet counting will be done by me, thank you very much. 😁 Here's the profile... I'm having fun already. Can't you tell? --John
  3. Ok...here we go again...Black 89, 105 Squadron, 1955, and according to the instructions, one of the last Mk IX Spitfires to see action. As you see, on the right hand side of this image we have cockpit components primed and ready for paint. --John
  4. Here is my build of AZ Model's Spitfire Mk.22 in the livery of the Royal Egyptian Air Force during the Suez Crisis. It was a good build and represents one of AZ Model's earlier moulds. They have better detail now. There was some thin flash around most of the parts but it was easily removed. The decals are nice and thin and although I was a little put off by the size of the wing roundels, further research proved they really were that small. There was no guide or instruction to use the stencils, so I left them off. This is also my interpretation of High Speed Silver, well-used and heavily flown. Apparently the Egyptians had this plane since 1950. The weathering is all oil pin wash and I think it really helped a lot. All the paints are Vallejo Air. A neat kit that builds nicely and a good addition to my ever-growing Spitfire A-Go-Go lineup. And here it is next to another AZ kit Egyptian Mk.IX from 1948... I have three days before the NATO/WarPac GB begins so cleaned off the bench. I think I have time for a Gustav before jumping into the Cold War fray! --John
  5. The was another thoroughly enjoyable build. The research was fun; the interpretation was fun; the whole thing was fun. A typical KoPro/AZ Model kit, no surprises. My first Vokes filter and another bluish Spitfire from my bench. This makes a total of 10 Spitfires I have built in the past 18 months so, like a child who has eaten too much cake, I will put away the Spitfire A-Go-Go for a while and have a rest...build something else. I have a few ideas...perhaps something Japanese or Luftwaffen-ish...I don't do those very often. 😉 The build thread is here... Thanks to all for the support and see you in a tic! --John
  6. As promised...I just cannot seem to stop...KoPro's Spitfire Mk.Vc, from the Siege of Malta. I am not sure which exterior I will be making, but for now the building is all the same. From what I have seen, this box-art is incorrect. Jerry Smith's aircraft was blue...blue-grey, something like that. And here are some more incorrect profiles and painting guides. Some sprue... ..and what I have removed and primed so far. I'll assemble the cockpit and then paint it. Osprey tells me that Smith's MK.Vc had its desert colours overpainted in Gibraltar, along with the rest of the Operation Bowery aircraft, and probably using paint guns, so the paint job would not be perfect. Supposedly a different shade than the non-spec blue. Maybe a Mediterranean Blue, but thinner coats so it is almost grey-blue? I have seen models built of this and they were really dark blue, factory fresh. not what I am looking for. In any case, I would like some advice about this from the forum because I am going to build Jerry Smith's Mk.Vc. It's too famous an aircraft to not do so. --John
  7. This will be the other half of my 'Double Group Build' and as part of my non-smoking cessation plan. I seem to have a lot of time on my hands without my little white death sticks. I noticed that there are a few different Spitfires here but nothing from Greece. Seeing as I live here in Greece, I figured, why not? So as I work on this, I will also work on the Hawker Hunter in the NATO/WarPact 1960 GB. I hope this is allowed. --John
