Making a spot for the start of this build HMS York heavy cruiser got the kit for a bargain at the last show Bolton I managed to get to before everything fell apart. 😷 Since then I have acquired a few extras ( The BIG BOY'S came around honest ) to go with it mostly for her sister ship Exeter but sure I can make them fit and very inspired by @Jamie @ Sovereign Hobbies and @robgizlu builds I will be attempting the same camouflage as the box art a bit like Rob's HMS Berwick build light grey and dark grey 507C and 507B I think I have that right. And there should be another parcel on it's way soon to help add a bit more. Stay Safe beefy

As the Comet is nearly finished and there is still a bit of time left with this GB, I thought I might have a go at something really out of my comfort zone. A diorama/structure model. This kit was a gift from my son, and this is just the time to start building it. The kit is currently marketed through Bachmann Industries in their Adventures in Plastic series. I think the kit may have originally issued by Aoshima.. Should be an interesting challenge once I have worked out a logical build/paint sequence (or I could just follow the instructions, nah). The instructions suggest watching old episodes of 'Thunderbirds' to help with painting, which advice I will possibly follow, given I have a box set (again a present from offspring, they know their father is a man of simple tastes). This build might be spread over some time as I will be doing other builds in the Airco/DH GB

My local modeling group (Mad City Modelers, in Madison Wisconsin) is having a group build this month, the theme is "Inclement Weather". As a former submariner, I've always wanted to do a diorama of a sub surfaced in the Arctic, and now I have a good excuse! Here are a couple of photos for reference: T The sub in the above pics is USS Trepang (SSN-674), a Sturgeon-class attack submarine, and were taken during her trip to the North Pole in ICEX-85. I started with MikroMir's 1/350 kit of USS Sturgeon (SSN-637): I've never tried anything like this before, so my results are mixed and I'd do some things differently if I were to do it over again. Overall, though, I'm satisfied. You be the judge: This was a quick-and-dirty project, and I didn't post a WIP. So, I'll briefly show some build highlights here: I began by cutting a recess in a block of foam for the upper hull half: I painted the hull with Mr Surfacer rattlecan black, and fixed it in place using AK Interactive Resin Water. I tinted the resin blue with a few drops of enamel paint. In retrospect, I should have gone with white instead: For the ice, I cast a thin (about 2-mm) sheet of white-tinted AK Interactive Resin Ice: Only the sub's sail (a.k.a. fin, a.k.a. conning tower) will show above the ice. I assembled and painted the sail separately, to be added after the ice is in place. I used just nine parts from the kit in total, seven of those were for the sail. Note that I added pins to firmly secure the fairwater diving planes. I also added pins for the periscope and radio masts (not shown): I carefully lowered the resin ice over the mounted hull. I found the resin to be a strange mix of being brittle, yet flexible. I used a small hammer to carefully break the ice over the hull. Loose pieces were fixed in place using clear silicone adhesive and CA. I also had to cut openings for the sail and rudder. Once the ice was in place, I added a layer of generic, model railroad snow which I fixed in place with hairspray. Finally, I added the sail assembly: And, there you have it. Not bad for a week's effort! And, if you've gotten this far, here is a nice video for your entertainment! Hello to all! Take a look at my german destroyer type 1936 A mob Z 37 from Dragon. It was initially the Dragon Z39 Kit with some modifications (less small AA Guns) The Dragon German Destroyer Kits have also its flaws! The left anchor winch turns in to the wrong direction. The platform for the front Rangefinder is wrong. The degaussing cable is missing The searchlight on the mainmast is to big, the big one is installed near the aft funnel. I do not understand why they have done this mistakes. The Trumpeter Kits are right. The small AA 2cm Guns are also wrong - overdetailed! I used the trumpeter light AA guns with the PE Set from White Ensign! The rigging was difficult! History: Launched in 1900 at the Vickers yard in Barrow-in-Furness, the battleship Mikasa was a pre-Dreadnought built for the Imperial Japanese Navy. Similar in design to the Royal Navy's Formidable Class her layout was typical of the penultimate pre-dreadnought classes, with main armament consisting of two twin-turrets located fore and aft, and secondary guns housed in main deck box batteries. Mikasa served as Vice-Admiral Togo's flagship and had an eventful career, seeing action in the battles of Port Arthur, Yellow Sea and the decisive Battle of Tsushima. A magazine explosion caused her to sink at anchor, but was eventually re-floated and returned to service as a coastal defence ship. Her eventual fate was to be preserved as a museum ship - the only surviving ship of her class, and can be visited at Yokosuka in Japan. The Model: The 1/350 scale Hasegawa kit builds up into a nicely detailed model, and the special edition comes with two metal figures (of a different scale) of Heihachiro Togo and Akiyama Saneyuki, but I've yet to assemble and paint these. I added a PE set by Lion Roar which includes brass barrels and a more finely detailed stern-walk platform among other things. A wooden deck was also added, and climbers utility cord was used to represent the anti-torpedo netting. Although the model depicts the ship in her 1905 'Battle of Japan Sea' configuration I couldn't resist painting her in her earlier black and white scheme instead of grey as she would have appeared int he battle, so the two fighting tops are absent from the masts and other minor details may be off.
