  1. Just saving my place for this GB, will be starting as soon as I finish the 1/32 Tempest. Will be an IAF bomb truck from the most desperate days of the October War (Yom Kippur) in 1973. Tamiya kit as the base, lots of photoetch and some excellent decals. Alan
  2. Hello all, I hope everyone is keeping well. This F-4J is built from the Tamiya kit, so there maybe a few inaccuracies in the final make up from the real thing, so apologies for that. It had been a 'thing' I have always wanted to build but sadly we don't have a good 1/32 F-4 that is suitable for the RAF except these of 74th Squadron that were directly imported from the US. Only add on were the smile lights that came from Eduard, painted with Gunze paints and all stores are fitted with magnets.
  3. This has been a long term project inspired by a photo I’d seen nearly 30 years ago! Below is a link to my WIP on this project- Background story The Tamiya F-4J provided the basis for this project. Some aftermarket items were used, including GT intakes, Jet pipes, Aires seats, Eduard external PE sets and Flightpath for the AIM-9 acquisition round. Decals were from various sources. The squadron nose marking and crew names were custom made. Safety and rescue markings were created using homemade stencils (Silouhette Portrait Cutter). Paints came from MRP. regards Andrew
  4. Hi all. First off, thanks for allowing me to join the Group build so late in the day, its the perfect opportunity to build this kit with minimal additions. My build will continue my current builds and be of a F-4J of the Jolly Rogers, VF-84, yes I know its been done before but I love the scheme so thats enough for me. After building the Academy 1/48 F-4B I've really come to appreciate the merits of this big old bird, so it wasn't a surprise to my wallet that when a cheap ebay offer came knocking I snapped it up. The kit has been featured on the internet before so I won't plow the same furrow, however I didn't want to spend a fortune on all the bells and whistles so I've 'only' purchased a set f cans, a set of Quickboost seats and dug out of my stash a set of Cutting edge intakes (these remove the Tamiya mistake on the outside of the port and starboard intakes) However whilst trimming back the flash on the intakes I discovered that the guys at Cutting edge had an off day when packing mine, they packed two righthand intakes and no lefthand ones, Its a good job I model in my shed on my own, the air was as blue as blue could get. Anyway, not being deterred by this set back I started with the build, reviewing the kit and the instructions it all seems plain sailing, just big bits with lots of seams, more to follow shortly. Until then here is the obligatory shots of whats going in the mixing pot. This is minus the quick boost seats.. Spot the ironic message from Cutting Edge. I've never used or even seen these cans before in the flesh so to speak, I have to say I can see what the fuss is all about. They stand head and shoulders above even the nice kit offerings, I don't think it'll be the last time I use these guys for my exhausts again. Anyway Easter is here and the rain is falling, the modelling shed calls so I'm expecting to make progress. Cheers and gone.
  5. Greetings All I finally finished my Spitfire, part of a dual build with the Tamiya Mosquito, which i had posted on in-progress i hope you like it.
  6. Hello I've phinally phinished this Phantom, and it's my second completed model for the year, it's been trough a couple of house moves in a half made state and survived! Aires burners and quickboost seats were added, otherwise it's all Tamiya. It's a great kit, all fitting nicely as you'd expect, there is a nice amount of cockpit detail but that's quite hard to see now and impossible to photo, so you'll have to trust me! Paint is xtracolour over Halfords primer, the underside being shaded nicely by this. I didn't do any preshading as I wanted to make it pretty clean after doing a couple of dirty aircraft recently, just an oil wash after some klear before and over the decals. The decals were a nightmare on this, most of them fractured into lots of tiny pieces! Worst part of all was removing the masking tape to find that overspray had gotten inside the cockpit and misted up the glass! I had to do some surgery to remove the canopies and clean them up and replace and repair the area- this happened twice! I don't normally close up cockpits and will think twice about doing it again. Overall an enjoyable build and it looks good next to my other 1/32 build, the Tomcat. I tried to replicate the view from the fin camera that I've seen on programmes, hope you like it.
