  1. NMCZ. It's a civilian vehicle and it is of a scale I do not normally build. But it's really cool. I'll skip the goofy decals and finish it in a typically well-loved, well-used fashion. I figure I will go for the very pale light blue color I remember seeing in Bulgaria back in the late 1990s. There's really good joke about the Trabant I heard back then... Rainy night at the bus stop. dark, cold, pouring down buckets. No shelter. Bus is late. A crowd waits--children, grandmas, bags of shopping, etc... A Trabant Combi pulls up at the curb. Driver opens up the door, says, "Anyone want a lift?" They all look at each other. They say 'No.' I might have to use some duct tape for this one... I'll get the rest of the photos up in the next few days. Consider this a place-holder. --John
  2. I have just completed my Christmas present from Mrs-G, the amazing beautifully engineered Airfix 1/24 Supermarine Spitfire Mk IXc kit. It was a joy to build. Disappointed with the small images generated by Flickr, any way of getting them to display full size?
  3. HNY to everyone. Last year was a very busy year for me, so have not been able to get on here as much as I would have liked. I guess my new years resolution will be to visit BritMod more. Thought I'd show off my conversion of the new LWB Revell III series Land Rover into a SWB version. If useful, I will post some of the pics I took of the deconstruction stage. Cheers Richard
  4. And so the big Airfix Hellcat is finished. This is the build story.... The journey started in late June 2019, and with a 9 month interruption, it is done. It isn't perfect but it pleases me: very light weathering, some fading on the upper surfaces. It is probably what a WWII carrier aircraft looked like. It is big, and it is heavy. The problem is "what do I do with it?" From the front three quater perspective, with the nose fully buttoned up, the Hellcat exudes an air of brutality! This is my favourite photograph! And with the cowlings removed the massive engine is exposed.... Now from above... And from the front....it is all about the weapons....! And talking of the weapon load this is a close up. The bombs and rockets are British, not the US ordnance supplied in the kit. There is more on this topic in the Work in Progress thread. Apologies for the blob of BluTac, it holds the lower cowl panels in position! So, there we are.... Comments, criticism and suggestions are appreciated, it is the only way to learn Now on to finish the 1/24 Harrier FGR3 build started in 1972.....(I think)
  5. Finished my Peugeot 905 EV1 Bis in 1/24 scale - Kit by Heller. Did have some issues with fitting it together, so you can see some battle scars on the model. Feel free to click on the link below for all the build photos of this project: Peugeot 905 EV1 Bis 1/24 Build Photos
  6. Afternoon folks Here's Airfix's classic Harrier GR3 from the venerable 1/24th scale kit, warts and all. Built as it comes, but with some home-made additions to the cockpit and seat. The Airfix decals and Xtracolour paints were used throughout. For its age, it's a really nice kit. The cockpit is very basic and the landing gear and bays are lacking in details, but with some good old-fashioned scratch-building you can make a decent representation of the Harrier. Happy modelling! Tom
  7. This project has been a light hearted in-fill model to relax with whilst building other models and it’s finally finished, but I wasn’t sure if to post it in this section or not, especially as it’s not a true scale model. Anyway, here it is and what I’ve try to do is create a vehicle that’s been in a hell-like dusty desert with plenty of battle scars from multiple engagements with the enemy. I’ve used this model to try a coulple of new finishing techniques and also add a few bits and bobs from the spares box to complement the kit. The main mods I’ve done are as follows: The addition of pioneer tools, a couple of towing shackles, extended tapered radio aerial, scratch built some radio headphones, added a rear light, jack, two interior storage bins, a battery and cooling fan for the engine, a side window for the driver, fire extinguisher, reposing of both skeletons (breaking of many bones was necessary 😈), adding a strap to oberleutnant ‘Scally’s’ binoculars, giving the vehicle some battle damage including bullet holes, making the bonnet removable, adding metal footplates, making new flags, and adding a few extra decals. I do intend to make a base for it in between other builds, but for now I’m calling it finished. Bitte, haf a looksee, aber, critics vill be shot!
  8. I'm back - been a while, but have been following some great posts on here. You may have seen my other 1/24 Scale Airfix diorama: Very pleased to win with it at Telford this year, a very nice surprise indeed. I said I would give aircraft a rest and get back to rusted cars & zombie stuff, my usual bread and butter when it comes to modelling. Well it didn't last long, I have had my eye on the Airfix 1/24 Scale de Havilland Mosquito for a while now, but something else normally got it the way. So I was happy to come across it again at Poole Vikings on Saturday 14th April (18), and at the price, how could I resist. Bring it back to the club stand I got the usual banter, "You cant rust that, its made of wood", etc. Well I had already formed an idea in my head as to what I was going to do with it - another museum restoration diorama. A quick search on the interweb and an idea had formed. I need to get a few models out of the way, a Revell London Taxi diorama with a couple of Nutsplanet figures and the excellent Italeri 1/9 Scale German Motorcycle with Side Car in a barn find diorama. Once these are done and dusted then its onto the Mosquito. As a said before, a quick look around the interweb and found some great resource images: Another source of inspiration are the Valiant Wings and Haynes books on the Mosquito: Plenty of reading with these two. I'm looking forward to this build and sharing its progress with you along the way. Thanks for stopping by. Richard
  9. Seeing as Airfix have already announced their Spitfire XIV, on the IPMS UK site https://ipmsuk.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/Scale-ModelWorld-2018-Timetable-V1.pdf the timetable of events includes an announcement by Airfix at 11 o'clock on the Saturday. Wonder what it could be.... Robert
  10. Hello All, anyone know of a decal sheet for Regia Aeronautica Stukas? regatds, TW
  11. Hi, Not another 1/24 Scale Airfix Hawker Typhoon, I hear you say, sorry, but yes. There are some excellent Typhoon builds here: Dances With Wolves being one. In my club I am know for doing something different, mainly rusted, or post apocalyptic stuff, you may have come across this: or this: So I am going to do my Typhoon as a museum restoration, inspired in some respect by the "Hawker Typhoon RB396" restoration, they have some great reference images. Where to start? I want to show as much of the fantastic interior that is hidden, and a restoration diorama is perfect for this, but it will require cutting up the fuselage (some of you will wince at that thought), and as it is a large model, I will remove the wings as this will allow me to have a smaller foot print on the club stand, and make transporting the finished article easier. Here are few pics to give you an idea of what I'm aiming for: Here are some pics of the work done so far: Removed the wing spars. Front spars cut off. Marked out the front section of the fuselage to be removed.... Test fit to see how it looks, it works... Then filled in the holes with plastic card: Let it dry then I will cut it match with the fuselage. Going to finish off the pilots "cage" tomorrow, need to add a few bits of additional stuff to the cage, for example the piece of metal and brackets that the panels would have fixed to, see image below: Thats it for now. Cheers Richard
  12. If anyone wants the photos and the full build write up for this please contact me via PM thanks! Hey all! My next build is gonna be a quickie! Its part of a group build on another forum and it was already started a few weeks ago so there will be one big update then progress as we go along. Unlike my other builds this one is gonna be as OOB as possible! It will give me a much appreciated little breather from doing super detail work. The colours I have chosen after much deliberation is Lamoborghini Arancio Atlas (light pearl orange) and Gunmetal Grey. This will be my first time painting with Gravity Colors so I will give a quick run down of my thoughts and how I painted with the Gravity Paints. Anyways on with the updates (Cut and Paste from the other forum)
  13. Hi, Had a few weeks off from modelling, needed a bit of down time after the last project had idea of doing a Model T ford or other rusted vehicle, but remembered that I had already started a VW Samba Bus. So what to do with it. Well it will be rusted and a bit run down. Whilst at IPMS Avon Model Show I picked up a couple of figures from Nuts Planet, Overwatcher and Vagabond. This project will feature Vagabond who has come across a broken down Samba Bus, but where is everyone... I already had a base which was going to be used for something else that never materialised, so halfway there with this project. Going to have bus stuffed with stowage and stuff scattered on the floor around the bus, as if whoever owned the bus has fled or worse turned... Figure is well cast, no seam lines to clear up, cast in grey resin, comes with a rucksack, jerry can, sawn off shotgun plus some pouches to go on his belt. This will be my second Samba Bus, the other was a Post Apocalyptic Battle Bus. More tomorrow. Cheers Richard
  14. Ever wanted to find a classic car in a Junk Yard or hidden away in a long forgotten barn? In the States (America to you and I) there is a group of people called "Pikers" their job description is "Antique Archeology", who travel around looking for just this sort of thing. This particular model is inspired by the excellent book Dr Cranky's "Ratz Rodz and Rusty" and by all things rusty. The model is a 1/24 scale plastic kit from Moebius. Rusted with: Lifecolor Rust and Dust set Mig: Light, Standard & Old Rust pigments Barn scratch built with balsa wood This model just built itself, so to speak... Another in a long line of rusted gems. Cheers Richard
