So To get back into a long break from modelling, I picked up a set that was lying on my self for some time. Box was not in great condition but everything inside was fine. I found a good version on the image on the front though. It is a Revell Vought F4U-1D Corsair. One of the simpler kits I believe, It came with a couple of paints and some glue which is helpful, luckily I have the whites and greys needed from another project so I have almost everything. I have started with some of the basic base coating, then I can get some colours in tomorrow. Criticism is welcome, I am still very much a novice!

Hallo again Here are my two Avro Anson. From Classic Airframe in 1/48. Etched parts are from FlyPath. This a/c I built some years ago. At this time, it was the biggest challenge for me, because of the transparencies. Actually all knots of the internal frame I had to make metal pins and holes, to get them fixed and proof the accuracy of fit. For paint, I used Gunze H colors. Happy modelling

I am not sure if this is the correct place to put this but it is a bit of a niche question. I am currently looking to make a model of (part of) RAF Harwell. I currently work on the site where it used to be and am trying to find old images of it. There are some out there but nothing beyond a few tentative ones where they are not sure if it is or isn't Harwell. I was firstly wondering if anybody had any better photos of the place, or secondly are there any better places to look for photos. I have found aerial photography of the airfield when it had concrete runways, but I would like to find something from when it had grass runways, which was most of its existence. Also, any information anybody has on the area or the site it would be greatly appreciated!

Greetings all, It's been a long time I posted in RFI, but here for your delectation is Special Hobby's tremendous Tempest V, the original HiTech boxing augmented with their resin Napier Sabre, which truly deserves the accolade 'a model in itself'. I think it might actually have more pieces than the airframe. WIP is here; and without further ado, the pictures. Next year's project is also 1/32, features several Merlin engines and is over a metre wide. Hurry up, postie! Mike

Our discussion of P-39's and the ones recovered by the Finns prompted me to look for the pair of Airacobras that were held by them for possible restoration; found a nice link to the aircraft currently preserved/restored and on display. I'm sure Antti has better photos, but the unpreserved Hurricane and Brewster 239 are especially nice, as is the Blenheim, which IIRC, is the only existing actual Blenheim and not a composite of Bolinbroke components. I hope many of you will enjoy looking at them. I think the Brewster is now back at the NAM at Pensacola, as it was on loan to the Finns for display in return for their cleaning and preserving it. Hallo again This is my HP Halifax in 1/48. The kit is from FM. Not easy to get a representative result. Together with my wife, we also worked about 3 months. After the HP Hampden. The kit was a nightmare. Lots of interior we scratched and we asked Sanger for the drawings. We were lucky, since the restoration of a Halifax took place in Canada. So many valuable photos were available on the web. After my Lancaster, the B-17 and B-24 it was my last four engine bomber. Happy modelling

Hallo again This is my Jake E13A1. The kit was Nichimo. One of our first Japanese aircraft. We had only Japanese literature for this model. Since I learn Japanese for some years, our teacher translated me some of the text to the photos and to the drawings. The kit was not easy, since of a lack of detail. So I obscured to entire cockpit with canvas and some cleaning tools for the ground crew. The engine was also a horror, and I took some spare engine from resin. I think Vector. Happy modelling

Hallo again This is our Wellington. Scale 1/48. Together with my wife https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/profile/27137-ruth/ I build it. It was a huge birthday gift from her with all available aftermarket products and literature at this time available on the market. We saw the Wellington in Hendon already before. For this distinctive a/c, I found enough photos from all views. Few days ago, I read a post about somebodies Wellington, about incendiary bombs; well here, they are from Flight Path. The bomb bay with etched parts from Eduard was at this time a masterpiece for me. Maybe it inspires one of you to catch up some ideas of modelling. Since we (my wife and me) are new on the forum, we want to represent you all a glimpse of our modelling in the past years. We actually wanted to build always aircrafts we wanted to build, and not being dictated by the market. Our choice was often combined with much more effort, since short run kits or highly detailed kits are this way. So I did also the side step with the vacuum-kits from Sanger. Happy modelling

Hallo again This is my He-111 H-6. The kit was Revell. I used aftermarket Aires Cockpit and Eduard etched parts for the bomb bay. Well, I did the KG 54. The a/c has a standard painting. Nothing special. It si an a/c of this particular time. BTW: Flying this a/c is something different. On many occasions the cockpit inside was fogged with condensing water. It was all white! In addition, the pilot had to stand up with the extension of the control column and was acting like a captain on a Vosper! Can you imagine such an obscure situation? The head was protected just with the tiny windshield. Happy modelling

Hallo again This is my Welkin in 1/48 as a resin kit from Planet. Not so easy to build, but actually a wonderful quality for these days. The gluing was the process with Epoxy. CA is impractical due to large areas and short time to cure. 5 or 10 minutes Epoxy worked well. The literature from 4plus was superb. Happy modelling

Hallo again This is Helldiver from ACC. With some etched parts from Eduard and masks from Montex, I did it. The ordinance is from aftermarket, but I had big troubles to get the HV rockets in a proper position on the wing. The key is the Wolfpack wing fold set. It is wonderful. Really a great design but not so easy to get along with it. This model was the star at our exhibition of: Naval Aviation at the IPMS-Austria model show in Vienna in 2014. Happy modelling

Lots of interior we scratched and we asked Sanger for glasses. Without the glasses from Sanger, we never would have finished the model. The model was for our exhibition. This exhibition was in Vienna in context of our show from IPMS-Austria (GoMo) at 2009. The topic was Multi Engine Propeller Driven Aircraft. The model was the eye catcher of the show. After the show, a storm blew the box with the Hamden away. The model was completely demolished. I was in tears! Friend of us saw the scene and asked for the wreckage. Take it! After ten days, he showed up with the new Hampden! The old one fixed and made as Met Flight aircraft. Well, this is the story behind. Happy modelling

Hallo again This Arado in 1/32 is from Fly. The kit is not easy to build. The instruction is good. I intended to build the night fighter option, but due to the lack of correct positions of the antennas, I choose another option. The cockpit is very difficult. With the items from Yahoo, it went great on. I brought some books about it with drawings, so I could get on easily. The masks where of great help. The masks for the cockpit from NewWare are excellent! Well, so far a nice build. Happy modelling

Hi all, I’m constructing a diorama on an RAF crash scene atm with a Beaufighter and the airfix emergency set kit (don’t get me started on the problems with that K6 being post-war). Just wondered if anyone has some pictures on crash rescues taking place, ideally hoses being used, extracting the pilots from the cockpit, would they just smash the canopy? And would they use ladders to get to for instance the observer in the Beaufighter? Any pictures that can answer these questions would be much apretiated! many thanks, PlasticSoldier

Hi all I guess this is sort of an introductory post to these boards besides the one in the new members section. Anyway: here are a few images of current projects. Most very close to being finished. I figure I'd wait with proper posts on the Ready for Inspection board untill they are completely done and proper photos have been taken. First up: The model that got me back into the hobby after more than 20 years. I came across a cheap 1/350 Missouri at a second hand store . I always wanted one of those big models as a child and at £3 it was too good to pass on. I upgraded the model with Eduard photoetch and a Pontos deck. Lits of firsts, like using an airbrush and oils for weathering, and obvious mistakes were made. But all in all a fun learning process! HMS Anchusa with the WEM upgrade kit. I think I might have overdone the weathering slightly on this model, but I wanted it to look really beaten up as I don't imagine these humble ships saw as much maintanence as the larger warships in the fleet. The Mountbatten Pink was an interesting challenge. The original color made the model very dark, so in the end I decided to lighten it with a neutral grey with just a hint of pinkish basecolor, to represent the sun's bleaching effect on red colors in particular. (Oh and yes: Not sure about that anti fouling paint colorc on the lower hull: I just thought it'd be nice to do something different than red for a change. The radar lantern is also incorrect. It is not firmly attached. I just left it there for the photoshoot, because I think it looks cool. ) My take on Trumpeter's HMS Zulu, using WEM photoetch, and upgraded main armanent from North Star Models and Micro Master on Shapeways. I also replaced the kit's wrong boats with 3d print and changed the main masts to brass for increased stability. A WIP of the Grand Old Lady Warspite with Pontos upgrades Unfortunately I have yet to get sufficient lightig conditions to shoot a good 3/4 view of the larger ship models. AFV Club Type VIIC Uboat with a couple of North Star crewmen. A lovely little kit, although in retrospect the slack on the photo etch cables doesn't look quite right to me...and maybe I should have dusted the model before photographing Oh well. Eboat from the Prinz Eugen kit, using WEM detail. Only upon arrival did I realize that the WEM set isn't really meant for this particular model and that the railings are too short, so I had to experiment a bit. I think a couple of crewmen like on the Uboat would finish it of nicely though.

hi everyone new here got myself some Airfix 1/32 US Marines the other day thinking it would be simple but I do not use Airfix paint I use tamiya paint I have tried looking it up what tamiya paint to use for em but most evolve mixing and stuff and this may sound noobish but I dont like doing that😁. Sorry for bothering you with such a basic question, but after some 40 years of aircraft and railway modelling I'd like to build some 1/700 battleships. Urban legend says that every one of them should have brown (teak) deck and grey hull. OK - but surely not the same shade of brown and grey. How could you put in order (from the very light to the very dark) the hull and deck colours of: HMS Hood in 1939 Littorio in 1940 Richelieu in 1941 USS North Carolina in 1942 Tirpitz in 1943 Yamato in 1944 USS Iowa in 1945 HMS Vanguard in 1946 Of course I have the kit manufacturers instructions, but before following them I'd like to know your opinion Cheers Michael

Hi all After putting out some dustbin stuff this morning i looked in the recycle bin ,and the light bulb came on,I'll include some pics of the kinda stuff i found even a old t bag some drink lids various other rubbish old pegs you see what a mean . so what to build from this pile of stuff i like ww2 mainly but this after some tea and thought will go one of many ways may even find other items that stick out to me this will be updated once or twice a week once i decide on what it will be thanks todd8137

The Belfast Telegraph on-line has this short aerial film on its site The film is dated 12/31/1935 As it goes over Harland & Wolff you can see some ships in the H & W wet-dock - on the right, at 0:40 to about 0:50. One looks like an aircraft carrier under construction maybe Then from about 2:21 to about 2:58 as the aeroplane heads towards part of Belfast harbour we see, at first in the centre and at a distance, then centre and then to the right another aircraft carrier. Just before 0:40 you can see a black mass on the left, disappearing into the bottom left corner. These were the iron work gantries where Olympic, Titanic and Britannic were built. While looking for DH 91 Albatross reference photos, I found this collection. Lots of great detail photos, including a Fortress II (B-17E) with Yagi antennas! Some excellent modeling project material as well as a list of serials for many of the types. I hope you will enjoy looking at them and that this collection has not been posted before. A second build thread as I like to switch between projects every now and then. This one I suspect is going to take a while though. The Airfix 1/600 HMS Belfast was the first ship model I ever built so returning to the beautiful Royal Navy light cruisers is a bit nostalgic. After seeing Steven Allen and Andrewas wonderful takes on these ships I wanted to try my hands on these myself. The (relatively) cheap and easy route would be to simply build Trumpeters Belfast kit. But comparing the Belfast to the Fiji and Sheffield, I always felt that the lines on the Belfast wasn't as sleek as the other ships. Thus I recently picked up the Iron Shipwirghts kit. In many ways this will be new territory for me: It is my first resin ship kit and the first kit from Iron Shipwrights. It is also a fairly old and slightly simplified, compared to the highly detailed CAD designed resin kits being created these days. With this in mind I knew from the beginning that this would be a lot more work than a normal injection moulded kit, and that it would involve a lot of scratch building and use of aftermarket parts. Upon arrival I was a bit disappointed by the casting quality though. Some critical parts were completely useless and beyond repair, while others, like the ship props and the Walrus seaplane were missing completely. I wasn't sure if this was a packing error or if the Ebay seller wasn't being completely honest. Either way, I decided to contact Jon from Iron Shipwrights and he has kindly offered to replace the missing parts free of charge. Their casting may not always be perfect, but the customer service certainly is! Still: When working with resin a lot of filling and sanding is probably unavoidable! I did some january sales shopping and this week my purchases began to arrive. The shopping list look like this: WEM HMS Sheffield PE set Master Oerlikon mounts Master Brass masts and yardarms North Star Models 4" guns North Star Models winches North Star Models Searchlights North Star Models HACS North Star Models portholes North Star Models quad Pompoms. 6" guns, some boats and possibly torpedo launchers will probably be 3d print, though I am still unsure exactly what route to go with these. Other than that I will be using a bunch of spare parts from my previous Royal Navy builds. Some critical parts are still missing though, like the radar lantern (inclding platform supports), main battery directors and replacement bollards and fairleads. It seems a bit excessive to purchase the Belfast kit and WEM upgrade set (which definitely contain suitable replacements), but I am hoping that over time it might be possible to obtain some of these things from people who might have spares from their own Belfast builds.

While looking for photos of the three surviving N1K1 Rex floatplanes, I stumbled across this photo collection; some very interesting photos, many of which I haven't seen before. Nick Millman probably has seen all or most of them. I hope they will be of interest. Speaking of interesting, from what I read, three of the four N1K1 Rex floatplanes shipped to the U.S. still survive- at the NASM in storage, Museum of Naval Aviation on display, and at the Museum of the Pacific War on display.
