  1. Here's my latest completion, Eduard's superb Typhoon V. This aircraft was flown by F/Lt Remi 'Mony' van Lierde, a Belgian national flying as 'B' Flight commander with 3 Sqn from RAF Newchurch in June 1944. This shows the real aircraft (image copyright World War Photos). Of interest are the Belgian national colours on the spinner, and the invasion stripes painted 'around' the national insignia and squadron codes on the fuselage - I have attempted to represent both. Hope you like her - thanks for looking! If you're interested you can find the WIP thread here... Thanks, Roger I made a bit of a pig's ear of the fuselage invasion stripes which had to be repaired with a hairy stick. I'm going to blame the 'erks' who painted the stripes - acceptable get out of jail card? Just for fun, one with my recently completed Airfix Mustang IV. Two formidable aircraft from different theatres of operation...
  2. Hallo again Now I started a new field. Tank and trucks from WW2. Most of them German and Russian. Moderns will be from the IDF. It is a totally different approach in opposition to aircraft modelling, which I do for 3 decades already. I want to show this models, as new from the workshop. Not battle used. Just minor weathering. Happy modelling
  3. Hi All, Completed about 6 months ago is my take on Airfix' lovely 1:72 Mitchell MkII, finished as EV@W of 180 Sqn, RAF Dunsfold 1943. Completed completely OOB other than Eduard masks and Tamiya tape seatbelts. Airbrushed using Tamiya Olive Drab and Neutral Grey - to my mind the OD is far too dark compared to other excellent renditions I have seen of this subject (but Tamiya wouldn't get it wrong, would they???). This was also my first real attempt at preshading and differential shading - it's probably a bit too obvious, but I was happy at the time! Kit and decals were both excellent - lead fishing weights were added to ensure she wasn't a tail-sitter. This is now my last 'legacy' RFI - I'm now going to progress to my first WIP - Eduard's new tool 1:48 Tempest Series 2. Wish me luck!
  4. Hallo again This is my first car, after 30 years of modelling. A totally new field for me. To this unique car, I have a personal affection. When I was a little boy, the Austrian Post company used this truck until the end of 1960s for pulling very heavy low-bed trailer with huge cable reels. The accuracy of kit parts is amazing. Like resin on a/c kit parts. This model is from Takom. I want to show this models, as new from the workshop. Not battle used. Just minor weathering. Happy modelling
  5. Hi All, Here is a kit I completed about 8 months ago - Airfix' 1:72 Wellington MkIA, completed as N2980 of 20OTU, RAF Lossiemouth December 1940. Completed OOB just with the addition of Eduard masks and addition of Tamiya tape seatbelts. This was my first successful foray with an airbrush - painted with AK Interactives Dark Earth, Tamiya Dark Green (both acrylics) and Tamiya NATO Black (rattle can). I chose this variant for 2 reasons - I felt that the wavy camo demarcation added interest, and the glazed side windows would offer the best view of the diligently completed interior (hmmm, now I see why Airfix tell you that these components will be invisible!). Loved the kit, and I'm now keen to try the GR MkVIII version, prob'ly in Coastal Command livery. Comments welcome,
  6. Hi All, Here is a build I finished approximately 4 months ago, Airfix' excellent Blenheim MkIF, finished as YP@Q of 23 Sqn, RAF Wittering February 1940. OOB with the exception of Eduard interior set and masks (most necessary for that glazing!) Finished with AK Interactives (Dark Earth), Tamiya (Dark Green) and Vallejo Model Air (NATO Black) - all acrylics. I started to experiment with colour modulation this time, most noticeably with the night underside, which may be a little overcooked. The glazing assembly was kinder to me than many others, and the only real errors were my own, the most glaring being the camo inversion on the port nacelle Anyway, it's a lovely execution by Airfix, and I'm relatively pleased with my hamfisted treatment! Comments welcome...
  7. Hallo again This is my first car, after 30 years of modelling. A totally new field for me. The accuracy of kit parts is amazing. Like resin on a/c kit parts. This model is from Trumpeter. I want to show this models, as new from the workshop. Not battle used. Just minor weathering. Happy modelling

  10. Hallo again Now I started a new field. Tank and trucks from WW2. Most of them German and Russian. Moderns will be from the IDF. Panzer IV models are not good designed. Now I work on a Dragon kit, but HobbyBoss was much better! It is a totally different approach in opposition to aircraft modelling, which I do for 3 decades already. I want to show this models, as new from the workshop. Not battle used. Just minor weathering. Happy modelling

  12. Dear fellow Britmodellers, the past year has been very productive in terms of completed models. (This indicates I should probably go out more and socialize, but I prefer the solitude of my workbench over a night in a noisy club or bar. Seems to be a matter of age, as I turned 50 in May.) Here's my round-up of 2019, all models photographed by Wolfgang Rabel. 1/72 Tamiya Focke Wulf Fw-190D 1/72 KORA Focke Wulf Fw-190 F9 "Panzerblitz" (Eduard sprues) 1/72 Airfix Wellington Ic 1/72 Tamiya Mosquito FB Mk.VI 1/72 Tamiya P-47D Thunderbolt 1/72 Dragon Panzer IV Ausf.H 1/72 Dragon Sherman Firefly IC 1/72 Dragon Sherman M4A3 1/72 Dragon Sherman M4A1 1/72 UM M12 155mm GMC "King Kong" 1/72 Hasegawa Junkers Ju-188E 2019 was a particulary good year for modelers with an interest in Soviet WW2 aviation. Both Arma Hobby and Brengun released a new Yak-1B, while Kovozavody Prostejov re-did Smer's Ilyushin Il-2 with new parts, and Zvezda added the Petlyakov Pe-2 to their catalogue. This is Arma Hobby's 1/72 Yak-1B. 1/72 Brengun Yak-1B 1/72 Kovozavody Prostejov Ilyushin Il-2 1/72 Zvezda Petlyakov Pe-2 Not actually a Soviet aircraft, but it carries Red Stars! 1/72 Special Hobby P-40K 1/72 SBS Fiat G.50 'Croatian Air Force' (my first full resin kit) 1/72 Henschel Hs-129 B3 (comissioned build without swastikas on customer's request) 1/72 Dragon T-34/85 1/72 ACE HP8 Tourer Car 1/72 Airfix GMC 353 Truck 1/72 Armory M45 "Meat Chopper" AA gun AZ Model expanded their Bf-109 series to the Erla production version, which has never been available as an injection-molded kit in 72 scale before. Special greetings to @Dieter, @Luis Alfonso, @VG 33 and @Sky Keg - thanks for your friendship. I wish you all the best for 2020! Greetings from Vienna, Austria Roman Schilhart
  13. My first real post here. Finished this one a couple of months back. I made life a bit difficult trying to replicate this aircraft. Quite a bit of dispute whether it had a yellow tail or white. Nose gun troughs were only described as "light" in the crash report, too. Great kit to make & detail. Really enjoyed it.
  14. Can someone help me out on this on for my Illustrious Class Carrier build is it a part of the manufacturing process or someone’s half bottom attempt of a catwalk? If it is a catwalk how would one attempt to make the real McCoy and would the measurements be?
  15. Hi. I’m sorry if this has been asked before - I *have* tried searching but haven’t come up with anything. I’m hoping to build a small diorama in 1:48, of a Spitfire(s) being resupplied. BOB era. I’ve come up with the Airfix 3-way bowser, figures and Mk1/2 aircraft. BUT I’m at a blank when it comes to the resupply for the 303s. Firstly - history. We’re the guns refilled using pre-filled ammo boxes, or were belts fed into the ones in the wings? Secondly - I know I’ll need to mess about with the original kits to open up the panels to the gun bays - and pertinently find a supply of the actual ammo belts/containers. I’ve seen some gun bay detail kits are available, but.. ammo? So any suggestions for both issues would be very greatly appreciated. I’ve just started modelling again after more than 40 years, and things have changed somewhat! I’ve only vague memories of the Airfix 1:24 Spitfire Mk1a I made way back then, but do remember there was some detail in the fun bays. Short of buying one literally for reference, I’m out of ideas for narrowing down research as there’s so much to filter!
  16. Hi! Here's another one of my builds - a ww2 corsair, heavily used with exposure to sun, sand and salty water.
  17. Hello all, This is my version of Mini-Art's T-60. Pretty much built out of the box (just added the ignition wires). Resin figure is from Evolution Miniatures. there is definitely something about is winter whitewash camouflage, when I start on one of those I can't stop weathering.
  18. This is another, much older build that I finally got around to photographing a few years ago. This model must've been built sometime in the 1990s, I really should've kept decent build notes back then. A few years ago, I took it and several other models (see the Bell AH-1S Cobra) to another small-town airport, the Coffield Regional Airport in Rockdale, Texas, about 20 miles away. The airport used to belong to a local millionaire, H.H. Coffield, and he had lot’s of cool WWII planes out there, including B-25s and C-47s. I thought the old hangar had a cool, “classic” look to it and used it for a background. The model’s first release date, according to the instructions, was 1969, then 1983 and ’89. It must’ve really been somewhat “state of the art” in 1969 with lot’s of cool detail and features. I added a little bit of wiring/tubing and tried my hand at dirtying up the landing gear and belly. It is done in Soviet Air Force markings and colors and represents one of over 4,000 Airacobras turned over to the Russians on Lend-Lease terms during World War II. Paint is Humbrol and ModelMaster enamel, applied with the Paasche Model H. Decals came with the kit. As to comments that it might be just too clean for the Russian Front, there’s this: “Too clean? Da, IS clean. Clean due to heroic efforts of Sgt. Alexei Nadgudunov, crew chief. Sgt. Nadgudunov was awarded Hero of Soviet Union medal for his efforts to maintain aircraft even in most-forward positions of front against German fascists in Great Patriotic War! Wielding high-pressure water spray, Nadgudunov beat back worst conditions that Mother Russia could provide. Sgt. Nadgudunov stated that even in harsh circumstances of combat, Soviet aircraft could go to war in presentable condition! VVS General Dimitri Klekov said Sgt. Alexei Nadgudunov exemplified efforts of patriotic Russian comrade citizens and soldiers in war against the fascist invaders.” 😉 Although I'd change several things if I were building another, this one turned out to be a fair “four-footer” I guess. Thanks for taking a look, and all comments welcomed! Gary
  19. Afternoon everyone. For my next project, I'd like to try and replicate the Ju88r found at the RAF Museum Cosford (formally at Hendon) in 1/72 scale. This particular airframe has a fascinating history, I'm sure many of you know already know it, and I'd like to try and get as close as possible to this, but alas know very little about the differences in specifications of the Ju88. Extra information on the aircraft can be seen here: https://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/cosford/whats-going-on/news/german-bomber-wings-its-way-to-the-midlands/ I already have the Revell Ju88C (as here: https://www.scalemates.com/kits/revell-04856-junkers-ju-88c-6-z-n--176229) and wonder what I would need to do to get as close as possible to the RAF Museum R model? I'd really appreciate any tips, guides or information anyone has on this! Thanks in advance Matt
  20. Hi everyone! My next build will be my favorite aircraft, the 1/48 Cat from Revell, the camouflage will be the early WW2 U.S. Navy used until May 1943 Credits: Wingspalette I will also this aftermarket parts: True Details Cockpit True Details Wheels Eduard PE Set (n.48182) Quickboost Engines Eduard Mask Hope that someone is interested on this build
  21. Hi, For my next build I was wondering, what I should build. I eventually decided on a tiger moth. What are some good kits in 1:48th and 1:72 scale for the tiger moth?
  22. Hi all, herewith my latest assault on the mountain of boxes now surrounding me - and in this choice, more 'firsts' are encountered: my first RS Models kit, and if I am not mistaken my first Italian fighter subject! The intention is to accept all the flaws in the moulding (as I wouldn't know them anyway). That said, I have sourced some rather fancy after-market PE courtesy of Brengun and the Big H (again), so hopefully it will enhance the look of the thing. No progress to report as yet, just setting a stake in the ground as it were. OK, one photo to kick off with - the box-art: Oh, and the decals/colour callouts: The markings look really sharp, which is good; however, I am somewhat underwhelmed by the all-over green colour. I was kind of hoping to have a crack at a mottled desert-type camo or similar, but to date I've found no reference photos to suggest they ever flew over North Africa. If anyone on here well versed in such matters could provide some other alternatives, I'd be interested to see them! Tally Ho, Yellow!
  23. Royal Navy WW2 Colours Lifecolor I’ve been trying these paints out now for the last couple of months so thought it was about time I wrote up the review. I won’t reiterate what Mike has already said about Lifecolor paints HERE. These two sets have been out for quite a while now, but they have only just arrived at BM’s London offices. Fortunately though, I have already used some of the colours on my builds and they do work very nicely. My normal media is enamel but every now and then I like to get the acrylics out, particularly on cold days when I can’t have the patio door open. The first set covers mostly the greys used by the RN, and include:- UA631 – Dark Admiralty Grey 507A UA632 – Medium Admiralty Grey 507B UA633 – Light Admiralty Grey 507C UA634 – Light Grey B20 UA635 – Medium Green-Grey MS3 UA636 – Dark Blue-Grey B5 The second set covers the rather more garish and unusual colours, but also some of the most commonly used:- UA637 – Hull red UA638 – Western Approaches Blue UA639 – Western Approaches Green UA640 – White UA641 – Semtex Green UA642 – Corticene Whilst most of the colours have looked to be just about spot on when used, I found the Hull red a little too brown and dark, there should be a hint redder in my view. Detail painting using a brush proved to be a delight. The paint going on well and drying to the same tone as the sprayed paint, which I’ve found is not always the case when using enamels. For those times when you've left your airbrush uncleaned, or even the brushes you've used, then this new product will be just the job for you. It's designed to be used in conjunction with tap water, much like the paints, and all you have to do is give the brushes a rinse in water, before using the cleaner until the hairs are devoid of paint, when you give them another rinse in water and dry. For airbrushes, you will need to disassemble the airbrush and place in a carton to soak fro between fifteen and twenty minutes.Once cleaned, reassemble the airbrush and spray water through it. It might be an idea to use this cleaner in an ultrasonic bath, should you have one. Conclusion These are great paints, easy to use and with good colour density. The pigments are quite fine and definitely need to be thinned before using in the airbrush, although I found they didn’t clog as much as some. The cleaner is another handy item to have in you paint collection, especially as we don't always clean our airbrushes or brushes as well as we should. The cleaner is just the job for those times when we haven't cleaned our airbrushes or paint brushes as well as we should. Very highly recommended. Review sample courtesy of:
  24. Hi guys and girls, I am looking into creating own decals and I'm looking for anyone who might be interested or might have information on WW2 British, American, German, Italian, French, Russian and Australian aircraft markings to start and others to follow. I am looking for dimensions and measurements of the 1:1 markings so I can create the most accurate product possible. Thanks guys.
