  1. Im in with the Academy 1/48 F16C boxing. Plan is to use the Caracal 48-086 CAS Vipers decals (ordered yet to arrive). I understand the kit is a pain - I looked at the last STGB, it was built with my other decals of choice, the SuperScale 111FS 90th birthday Texas ANG. So it may change as I have paint for both. I have filler and sanding sticks! Have my Mustang to finish before I jet off to Uganda on Sunday, so may get to start or it may wait for a couple of weeks.
  2. Korean company D-Corporation has just released a 1/72nd Lockheed-Martin F-16C Block 40/50 Viper/Fighting Falcon kit - ref. DCM72001P Revell plastic. Source: http://www.finehobby.com/FrontStore/iGoodsView.phtml?iCategoryId=608&iCategoryIdMain=608&iGoodsId=DCM72001P&iCurrentPage=1 V.P.
  3. This is my second viper build, first one is here I hope this one will better than first one. I don't want do heavy weathered model, let see what will happen
  4. My first plane model. I m a Battlestar galactica fanatic, some kits are waiting in my stock but this is my first try for plane modeling...
  5. Source: http://www.master194.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=94249 Dixit French forum Master194 while everybody is talking about the soon to release TamiyAMK Tomcats, Tamiya would have unveiled at the current at IPMS/USA Nationals a 1/48th LM F-16D two seats Viper sprue. True or fake? Still waiting for a reliable source. To be followed V.P.
  6. Academy is to release in 2016 a new tool 1/72nd Lockheed-Martin KF-16C Fighting Falcon kit - ref.12536 Source: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234994031-academy-catalogue-2016-online/ V.P.
  7. Hello, Viper Tigermeet Tmota 2005, decals Twobobs, ladder and photoetched Eduard
  8. Lost interest in the Revell Super hornet as the instructions about glueing the small wheel bits together were unclear and made me frustrated. However, the Viper came in the mail a lot earlier than expected, so I've decided to start it! I couldn't resist; it's the newest tooled kit I've ever done, and it's filled with really good detail. I hope it'll go together well! The kit comes with a small fret of photoetch for various mesh grills and seatbelts. Also included is a small weight ball and 2 sheets of decals. They aren't really glossy but more of a matte type which I don't know if it's unusual because I've only ever dealt with glossy decals. Instructions come with a small booklet with glossy covers. Overall, it seems like a well thought out kit with no compromise to detail. The clear parts are almost glass like! I was surprised to see only a grand total of 4 sprues, although one of them is quite large. A close up of the exquisite surface detail: ( the droplets of water are from washing it with warm soapy water, something I learnt a while ago that supposedly helps to remove grease and enables acrylic paint to stick better ) Really excited to see how this turns out
  9. I think a kit is not worth breaking down, I have given her only a few etchings by Eduard and RBF also from Eduard other photos in the spoiler
  10. Hi guys, My most recent build, the 1/48 F-16C from Hasegawa. It was the Idolm@ster F-16C with very unattractive markings and yellow plastic. I decided to build her as Bahraini F-16 when used in Desert Storm 1991. The Hasegawa F-16 has a challenging inlet but whit some filling, sanding and TLC it came out quite nice. I normally build "old" aircraft so this is my first modern fighter, hope you like it! Erik
  11. AH-1Z Photo-Etch Updates (for KittyHawk) 1:48 Eduard KittyHawk have blessed us with a new kit of the latest variant of the Cobra, the Viper, as used by the US Marines, who don't seem to think they need any of those new-fangled Apaches. We reviewed the kit here if you haven't seen it, and now Eduard have produced some detail sets in Photo-Etch (PE) for those that want to improve on the detail supplied with the kit. Interior (49718) Presented on one small nickel-plated, pre-painted and self-adhesive sheet, this set provides additional detail in the shape of skin panels for the floor; seatbelts for the pilots; a full set of laminated instrumentation consoles in both cockpits, and a few additional small details for the cockpit ceiling, all of which build on the detail provided in the kit. Exterior (48845) Supplied on a large brass fret, the set adds extra engine, skid and gun details, plus a substantial rebuild of the instrument bays in the port and starboard sides of the fuselage, adding extra boxes and detail in the process. The FLIR ball-turret also sees a number of circular detail parts added around the optics, and a substantial number of mesh grilles are dotted around the airframe, making use of their superior detail. The engine bays are designed to be opened up, and additional parts have been included to add extra visual detail to these, with the focus on the inner panels of the lower doors. Another pair of skins are included for the equipment bays in the nose, and you will need to find some fine wire to represent the retaining wires that allow the doors to rest horizontally when open. Slime lights, airframe details and exhaust tubes for the Sidewinders mop up the final space on the sheet, all of which will make for a much busier look when complete. Masks (EX461) Masking can be a chore, and although the Viper has a relatively small window count, they are odd shapes and sizes, so a masking set will be very handy. Supplied pre-cut from yellow kabuki-style tape, these sets are a boon to the busy modeller, or anyone that hates masking. The main side panels are masked with outline masks that hug the frames, after which you then infill with scrap tape or liquid masks, while the top panels are full masks. As a bonus, you also get masks for the FLIR turret optics, which would be fiddly to cut yourself. Review sample courtesy of
  12. Hey guys. I figured i'd post my Galactica and Viper Mk II, both are battle damaged. These were finished around christmas time and i haven't really posted the pics anywhere. What do you think??? They were the first battle damaged models i ever attempted. Ignore the date on the camera, also the canopy for the Viper is now looking a bit better that in the pics.
  13. Here we go then Revell 04988 Battlestar Galactica Colonial Viper Mk.II Nothing flash just OOTB for this one as there will be plenty of remedial work to do.
  14. Is there any inbox reviews of these knocking about? I have a set inbound just wondering how they are vs the 1/32 kit.
  15. Kit manufacture: Tamiya Scale: 1/48 Type: F-16C Arkansas ANG "Flying Razorbacks" Extras used: None Paints and colours used: Tamiya Royal Light Grey XF-80 and Dark Sea Grey XF-54 for the Main colours, XF-20 Med. Grey for the nosecone and XF-7 Flat Red for the tail Other info: Finished with Xtracrylics Flat and Flory Grime Well after getting back into the hobby about 5 years ago (45 now) since a teenager I also wanted to build one of the famous Tamiya F-16s. So about 4 years ago SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed) kindly bought me this kit for my birthday. However, wanting to do it justice I was a bit afraid to just get stuck in and muck it up. So it has been an ongoing project, only having the paint completed in the last month or so. I even forced myself to paint the pilot Urgh! A lovely detailed kit, but I wish they would make it easier to fit all the undercarriage after, rather than having to mask it up (I hate masking!).
  16. Just picked this kit up over the weekend. I will be using the kit decals and loading it up for bear using stuff from a Hasegawa F-16CJ kit. So far I've done some upgrading work to the kit seat. Original seat on the left and upgraded one on the right. I'll most likely add seatbelts in due course. Mark
  17. Well thats another finished, I think! Maybe just 1 or 2 more things to add to it at a later date, but thats it 99% complete! Had a bit of an issue with the varnish effecting the decals, as in it started to melt them for some reason, didnt have that problem with the previous kit, but I managed to salvage it just!
  18. I built a MkII Viper a few months ago and a friend ended up buying it, so I couldnt do without one myself as I think they are among the best looking fighters in Science Fiction, so ive ended up building another. I recently completed the MkVII version in under a day to set myself a challange to see if I could do it, this time however, that was not possible, there is simply too much work involved in the MkII. So instead its taken a leisurely 2 days to complete minus weathering which I shall do later today! More pics to follow!
  19. Finally got hold of a decent camera and present my first model in 15 years! A heavily weathered and battle scarred Viper MkII I noticed the other day that the tail number belongs to "Husker" as it's the one on the Viper presented to Commander Adama in the mini series. You'll notice a decal missing from the base. A recurring theme in the models I'm finishing off at the moment. Les and decals don't get on well!
  20. Hi all just embarking on my first model building in approx 15 years. Got it as a Christmas gift from the Mrs as I'd mentioned I felt the need to build and paint something! So Viper MkII! I didn't take all the pics I wanted as I went, because I was hooked again I'd built most of it when I remembered I was going to do a wip. Here goes, cockpit before decals and detailing (first shot took with wife's iPhone 4, the rest with an ancient SE W810i as broke my phone Xmas day) after decals and fitted in the model:
  21. Hi All, I have a few questions about the F-16F Desert Falcon (UAE Air Force) which I hope you knowledgeable types out there might be able to answer? 1) What kind of wheels does it have? Are they the same as the Block 50/52? 2) What is the laser targeting pod they carry? It looks different to the Sniper XR, is it a new type and is it available in 1/32? (yeah right! ) 3) Do the UAE F-16s carry standard wing tanks or can they also use the 600gal tanks? 4) Any clues as to the air-to-surface load they would typically carry? Do they have JSOW, AGM-130 or SLAM-ER? Otherwise do they use the same JDAM GBU-31 or -38s as US forces? 5) Does the backseat have any flight controls? Thanks very much, and that's probably just for starters!! Al
  22. Well I think thats this kit finished already! Not a lot of work in it seeing as it was a straight forward out of the box build with no lights, just lots of weathering! Its actually my first attempt at weathering so any hints or tips or suggestions are more than welcome!! Anyway, here she is! Thanks!
  23. Hi all, A quick out of the box kit to work on - no extras. Fitting is not too bad but I did have to wait a few weeks for replacement parts to come from Revell (if you have this kit, check the engine bits are ok as I have seen a few folks have had the same issue). All in all, very enjoyable and a nice break from the big build I am working on. enjoy. Although the photos might not show it, it does have a slight highlight / lowlight in areas rather than just a flat colour. I would love to know how folks are getting transfers to "suck" into any cracks on the kit...I tried varnish (Vallejo), decal medium and even a tooth pick but nothing made them stick! I know many builds have taken to a much deeper blue, I decided on a lighter shade mixed with some steel...what do you think? All the best. Leigh.
  24. Here's the other thing I built on sick leave - it's the ubiquitous and highly repetitive Tamiya F-16CJ Block 50 kit built from the box. Photos courtesy of the Farnborough IPMS website and taken by the incomparable Dr Flangemeister! Also many thanks again to Stephen for the two MXU travel pods Grey Jets ROOOOL! Enjoy, and your monitor hasn't broken down, it's monochrome day at Phatty Towers! Al
