  2. Hi,hope your enjoying your weekend, right heres a quick look at A-models russian shuttle, recently received,it threw up a few suprises, for me ,as i didnt anything about the kit, before i bought it.For the money,i could of bought two 1/72 monogram shuttles with boosters, and maybe scratch built this version,or maybe not? First off, quite a large box not much about the kit on it,nice painting though, real one would of been nice...second,i was totally suprised by the kit coming with the shuttle, already assembled and no chance of a open cargo bay.and lastly it came with three med size bags of parts and a very limited decal sheet, anyway heres the evidence, have a look yourself and form your own opinions, its very picture heavy sorry ....cheers Hi, i was looking for pics of the new a-model shuttle stack last night, and came across this thread, and noticed all the pics had gone, its a shame,it seems when photobucket decided to upgrade, all my older pics have been moved to albums,so i thought this deserves to be reposted,so heres the pics again, which now they are in a sub-album,will hopefully stop there.....so here they are again...... its a big box... i opened the box,and was suprised to find,a ready built shuttle ,? shrinkwrapped lokks very nicely made, fibre glass?resin?grp, looks like the seams willsoon sand,....but no payload bay, unless you contemplate major surgery, though with this version, not sure it had a operating payload bay? looks nicely made,a good foundation for some scratch building? a bit of surface detail scribed in, underside, scribing detail on the leading edge,s might need a bit of work to fit the undercarriage in? its a nice size next to a 1/72 shuttle the decals?....no tiles right thats the main fuselage, cheers Don

  7. Hi,thought you may want to see this months edition of this mag,its got an epic space build in it,though there is only 4 pages, which does not do real justice to a build that has taken Felipe a mind boggling 3,000 hours i mean hats off to him,but really needs to get some thing else to do,i,m,h,o.,18 months doing one model,as roy castle used to sing "Thats Dedication",id have to place it a museum after that, anyway apart from the usual high standard planes etc, thats the only space build in it,by the way its in 1/144.. cheers Don Don
  8. Hi,thought you might like to see whats in,before you buy... Quite intresting articles on the recent russian meteorite, ten pages in all, good read. A very nice article on the very british space corrospondent Reg Turnill, who passed away last month.aged97. its a nice review of his long career, very much liked the bit about his serving up meals of space bred killer tomatoes, and being visited by men from the ministry of agriculture. plus loads of very spacy things, enjoyable read cheers Don cheers Don
  9. Hi,BBC 4 AT 8.00-9.00 HORIZON, ASTEROIDS,how they cause life and death? cheers Don
  10. Hi.not only pallendrome day?,but BBC 4 8.oo til 9 horizon,it is a repeat but very intresting,a veritable oasis in the desert of space tv lately..Nasas latest mission planned for mars..cheers Don
  11. Hi, Thought i would show you this kit of dragons,as we have just passed the 40th anniv of mans last visit to another planet.Apollo 17 the 11th and final manned mission to the moon, probably more famous for the night time launch of the saturn 5,the one that brought all the fish to the surface to watch?. Launched 7 dec 72,landed on the moon on 11dec,moon landing site Taurus-Littrow,the lm landed about 300 yds short of target, with about two mins of fuel left,so could of had a fly round,if they had wanted. crew was Ron evans, jack schmitt,Gene cernan.cm call sign America,Lm call sign challenger, and aboard was lunar rover Lrv-3 Also on board were 5 mice,to test the effects of radiation, but these dont come with the kit. Apollo 17 mission important for quite a few things, that gets overshadowed by earlier missions.. 1.the famous earth from the moon photograph...orange soil...detonating charges for sub surface exploration..cernans hammer breaking the lrv mudgaurd and causing lunar dust to cover everything,so making the astronauts perform lunar repairs and pitstop, the kits lrv mudgaurds are fine though.. The crew collected 243.65 pounds of moon rock, which included the goodwill rock, which was sliced up andgiven to seventy countrys. Cernans last unrecorded words on lift off from the moon were.'ok,jack, lets get this mother outa here' Anyway the kit is very nice, nice lunar display stand, very nice moulding, cannot comment on the accucery of the details, though someone will?cos i dont really care,it looks good, and its one of the kits which will benefit from attentionj to the finish and paint i suspect..very nice, heres some pics the lander the orbiter usual lot of minute decals, and pe bits wire for command module nice big stand the lunar explorers they seem a bit dumpy to me but very very detailed, you can almost see the aforementioned hammer on cernans leg if you look real close. the lm instrument bay/hold is shown, quite a nice touch, saves scratch building one.
  12. Hi,check out the weird story of the scottish space fan,who has recently paid to have his photo taken up to the iss, stamped as having been there, photographed against a window with the earth as a backdrop, and returned ,to earth, now has pride of place in east lothian. But i thought the weirdest part of the story is in his space collection,he has two samples of moon dust, one off the apollo11 one of the apollo 15 mission,he bought them with provenance,a few years ago,but it seems nasa said he should,nt have them they are a us national treasure?,anyway as he has bought them legally, nasa,s struggling to reclaim them after numerous attempts,it seems a stalemate has been reached,if he doesnt advertise or show them, nasa will leave him alone?.Idont think i would like nasa breathing down my neck, anyway its damn weird, you can buy anything these days, check it out cheers Don
  13. Hi,tv tonight, the holy grail for conspiracy theorists...Did we land on the moon?,,,channel 5 20.00-21.00 on tv for the first time the disputed photo,s....and investigates the mysterious deaths of ten nasa astronauts leading up to the landing?..scary stuff,do people really believe this?...anyway should be intresting if not for subject matter, the content of spacy stuff is a good enough reason to watch...cheers Don
  14. HI,gordon d and mike and all, Ive been following some of the newish threads on the arc site for real space modelling, and feel a bit inadaquate, really, must stay away from there. But im quite intrested in doing one of the models which use a paper model as a template with evergreen etc as backing, there is a very nice launch tower being built, must have a follow up on that, has anyone on here used the same teqchnique,if yes, give us some input, cheers Don
  15. Hi,tv tonight bbc 4 at 11.30, Voyager,to the final frontier, should be very intresting. cheers Don

  17. HI,just a few more things going on,it seems very busy up there at the moment, not many satellite models though,i can but hope?.anyway heres whats occuring. The Curiosity Rover is vying with the Higgs Boson Particle for Time Magazines person of the year award, to be announced December 14th. It could be only the third non human to win it in 87 years. There are some nice photos on the news of Earth at night taken by Nasa's Noaa Satellite, which was launched last year. Its sensor the day/night band of the visible infra red imaging radiometer Suite (VIIRS) is sensitive enough to pick up the light of a single ship at sea. Its designed to get more complex view of storms and fog. There are some nice images of snow on Mars (dry ice really) in the crater where Curiosity is exploring. The pictures were taken by the high resolution stero camera on ESA's Mars Express Orbiter. The snow is in the Charitum Montes region near the Gale Crater. The Montes are a large group of mountains bordering the southern most rim of the Argyre imapct basin. They can be seen from Earth by a large telescope. Scientist say NASA;s budget is not big enough for its stated goals, one of which is to visit an asteroid by the Human Space Flight Program, by 2025, but they are having trouble finding support for this from their own scientists and the general public. NASA plans sending a new Rover to Mars in 2020 as a prelude to a manned mission. President Obahma says they are committed to having humans on Mars in the 2030's. NASA has already been forced to pull out of some joint missions with the ESA after budget slashing. It wants to save money on the new Rover by using spare parts left over from Curiosity, and sticking with the same design. Currently costs $1.5 billion (£900 million) That will bring the current and planned missions total to seven. The Opportunity Rover which has been exploring since 2004 The Curiosity Rover this year There are two orbiters studying the planet at the moment and relaying signals from the Rovers A new craft called the Maven is to be launched next year to study the upper atmosphere And also planning sending a craft dubbed Insight to dig to Mars's depths in 2016 thats it for now cheers Don
  18. hi,a new service available, looks intresting...... View Photo This March 7, 2011 NASA image shows a close-up view of the International Space Station … Galactic tourism may still be a daydream for most of us, but for anyone interested in a glimpse of the International Space Station sooner, NASA is ready to help. The US space agency, celebrating the 12th anniversary of astronauts living and working on the orbiting lab, launched a new service Friday that alerts people when the space station is visible from their back yard. Those who sign up will get an email or a text message with a few hours warning. Then, when the moment is right, NASA said, you just go outside and look up -- no fancy equipment required. "It's really remarkable to see the space station fly overhead and to realize humans built an orbital complex that can be spotted from Earth by almost anyone looking up at just the right moment," William Gerstenmaier, NASA's associate administrator for human exploration and operations, said in a statement. The space station is typically visible right at dawn or dusk, when the moon is the only brighter object visible in the night sky, NASA said. It looks like a fast moving point of light, similar to Venus. "Spot the Station" service is available worldwide, the agency said, adding the station's trajectory carries it over more than 90 percent of the Earth's population. To sign up, visit spotthestation.nasa.gov. 20. Hi ,just seen new pics on line from mars, top notch, its a bit of a bugger though, when we do our models,i was always led to believe, rightly or wrongly,i understand its all about filters and such, that mars always had a tinge of the red spectrum, you know cocoa powder etc,now looking at these pics,i have a few bottles of vallejo iraqui sand, which will do nicely for future projects, Hope everyones well out there.cheers Don
