  1. Hello, I'd like to share this model recently re-released by Airfix in new striking colors. It was built OOB for my 8 years old nephew in 4 full days. He has patiently followed the whole process taking active part in it. The only addictions were the little antennae above each tail boom. I'm a fan of Airfix whose new kits are nice and sweet and really cheap! A joy to build! Hope You enjoy it! Giovanni (uncle) and Francesco (nephew)
  2. Hi, here I'm sharing with you my Vampire in the RNZAF colors! It's the 1/72nd Airfix vampire starter kit. Little bit of a back story, I chose a started kit because it's the first aircraft kit I've done, and the first time I weathered (washes only), and also the first time I used acrylics extensively (used a lot of lacquers and enamels on my ships), and also the first time i have to mask that many things (canopy and all). So first of a few things, I'm quite happy with it, please be frank and full of tips, I'd love to learn new things for my next model (1/72 AB-212). I initially wanted to dive in a big-ish project with a flanker is a special livery but decided onto something simpler (and cheaper) to learn. As you can see here, I started the wash on the right wing but ended up leaving it too long, forcing me to scrape the excess, and chipping a bit of pain... Well, I learnt my lesson. Overall I'm really happy with it, I love the real paintjob, learnt a lot of things along the way, and It doesn't look too bad on my shelf!
  3. Lets see if I can get one more done before the end of the month. This sad beastie has been hanging around for awhile. I made a start, but then managed to lose the canopy (Airfix kindly sent another but it took awhile to get here) and I felt like I made a bit of a botch with the intakes. Whatever, its languished on the shelf for over 2 years. When I took it out to have a look I realised it wasn't actually too far from being finished. So I had a quick tidy up of the seams, with some judicious use of Mr Surfacer 500 and then the main fuselage was ready for paint. I decided to go with WZ507, so started by putting a couple of coats of white down where the yellow was to be, and the followed up with a couple of thin coats of yellow (all brush painted Tamiya acrylics). Masked up: We are having yet another hot day here in Perth, and I know from bitter experience that that does not go well with spraying paint outside (which is what I normally do with silver finishes), so instead I decided to risk brush painting the metallic coat (flat aluminium as it happens as that was what I had to hand). Close up on the cockpit, which reminded me that I actually did have some fun with this before abandoning it. Another thin coat of Tamiya XF16 and then I removed the masking tape. Not too bad, just a few bleeds and some paint ridges that need some attention.
  4. Just got my sticky mitts on the new Airfix 1/72 Vampire T11. I am intending the first one straight out of the box as the WZ507. Can anyone provide advice on detail painting of the ejection seats? I understand I need to add single loop firing handle in yellow and black on the head box? Many thanks. Simon
