  1. Finished Valom Albatros. This is my first build of a Valom kit, I don't think this is as good as the others available after studying parts, the kit engine was massively oversized like a church organ. Lots of adjustments had to be made. I will add this to a base but I want to learn static grass to make a good base.
  2. Hi BMers. Here I present my recently completed NA FJ-1 Fury using the Valom 1/72 kit, WIP here. Life started with the intention of building it OOB but soon decided to do something a little different with it and turn it into one of the Bendix Trophy race aircraft and fit it with larger 290 US gal fuel tanks. The kit builds up well as long as you remember it's a limited-run kit as the locating of parts is a bit 'iffy', check your references. The replacement tanks were 3D printed by a buddy of mine and secured to the tips using 5-minute epoxy, A little PPP was used at the tank/ wing join, wing root and tail plane/ fuselage areas. The model was then primed with Halfords grey primer and painted with 'Post War USN Glossy Sea Blue' (ACUS35) enamel paint by Colourcoats and finished off with kit decals and Tamiya Satin Varnish. BuAerNo.120350/101 - 2nd Bendix Trophy (Lt Cdr EP Aurand) My thanks go to @Sabrejet, @Tailspin Turtle and others for their contributions. Stuart
  3. I just got the new Valom DH91 Albatross kit, number 72129, today and it looks very, very good! I don't know much about the airplane, except that it is a classic DH design and is one beautiful airplane; there isn't a lot on the internet that I could find as far as cockpit/wheel bay/interior details are concerned, but my intention is not to superdetail it, but to do a decent job on one of the impressed examples or one of the two flown by 271 Squadron on courier duty. Therein lies my question: The kit color profiles show two marking choices, both BOAC courier aircraft; G-AFDM, "Fiona" and G-AFDK, "Fortuna" I also like one of the 271 Squadron aircraft, G-AEDW, "Franklin" coded BJ-W and with the serial, according to one written source, AX904. The kit color callouts list DM's colors as dark green/dark earth/aluminum and DK's colors as extra dark sea grey/dark slate grey/aluminum. Another source also stated that these two were finished with aluminum dope on the undersides, but that the civilian examples that were impressed had trainer yellow undersides. What were "Franklin's" colors? Does anybody know whether the Valom color references for the two choices in their kit are correct? Can anybody confirm the colors for AX904? I am assuming, from the few photos that show the undercart fairing doors and wheel bays of DH-91's, that they are also aluminum? Sure would be grateful for some light to be shed on this subject! I have attached a link to some useful Albatross information. Mike
  4. Valom is to release in 2017 a new tool 1/72nd North American B-45A Tornado kit - ref. 72120 Sources: https://dukmodell.com/Vorankuendigung/Valom-N-A-B-45A-Tornado-1-72::17988.html https://www.scalemates.com//1030608-valom-72120-north-american-b-45a-tornado Box art V.P.
  5. Hi all, I just realised that I never posted any image of my Ouragan build from a couple of years ago. So, to put things right .... I am not proud of this one. Maybe that is why I didn't post it at the time ;). Martin
  6. Hello Here is my most recent build with this 1/72 North American B-45A from Valom. This aircraft was from the 86th Bomb Squadron / 47th Bombardment Wing in 1954 at Sculthorpe RAF Station. The transfers came from a Caracal Models sheet and were very satisfactory. This kit is not for beginners and honestly one is enough. In the end the product is correct and will be published next month in the French magazine "Avion de combat". Patrick
  7. Just posted on Valom's website: http://www.valom.net/pripravujeme_en.html
  8. The C-47 will be finshed in about a week. Then my dad will start the next shelf eater, this time a bit smaller. Gonna do a North Vietnamese Gunship with the Hobby Boss kit, decals and rocket pods from the Valom kit.
  9. I finally finished something, and it's not even vacation time yet! This model was started a long time ago, and back then it was the first short run kit that I've ever attempted. Due to reasons it stalled at 25% done, but after all work on a Beaufighter during the autumn I got the mojo back to do something about this one. I had a fun time with the gun throughs and the cooling fans, but in the end they do look quite nice! Not so much with the rocket rails though :-( Anyway, here are the pictures (yes I wil cut of the radiowires a little more. I just need to have a steady one first or time the cutting to my heartbeats) Onwards and upwards. One finished is worth two new on the bench and five in the stash right? Here is a link to the WIP: (pictures from photobucket are blocked, but I might put them over to flickr if need be)
  10. Bristol Buckingham C Mk I - used as fast transport airplane for VIPs at the end of WWII. Model from Valom with few modifications (extra windows on sides, smaller antenna cover on the fuselage, some lights added etc.) This is KV313 from unknown for me unit of RAF (is anybody knows it, which one?). I've just found in Internet photo of her. I interpreted colours differently, then it was suggested by Valom. I intended to paint as Ekstra Dark Sea Gray/Slate Gray uppers with Azur Blue undersurfaces - as I think many of RAF transport machines used overseas were painted at the end of WWII like this (Stirlings MkV, Yorks, transport Halifaxes etc, Wellingtons, Warwicks..). In fact I am interesting in your opinion - is this coloor choice proper or not? On the photo from Internet of KV313 there is a low contrast between uppersurfaces colours. Here, on my photos the slate gray is a bit too green since my photos which were done with use of arificial light with modern enrgy saving bulb. You may notice, that all greenish colours becames more fresh in this kind of light (it is due to one mercury emissin line which is very intense green and this is present in spectra of such bulbs...). Perhaps I will add next photos later done in a sunlight... Regards Jerzy-Wojtek
  11. It's more fun to separate builds into different topics, don't you think? In my Burma Beaufighter, I mentioned that I fiddled with a Brigand as well, so why don't show it here then? I started way back in 2011, and this was my first attempt at a short run kit. First thing to tackle was actually the engine/landing gear nacelles. It's sort of an approximate fit... But the details are nice at least. It was painted grey as per instructions dictated, and given a light wash That'll have to do. Now, someone will probably say that they're supposed to be black... I can change that if needed. The nacelles them self aren't what I'd call circular, but who cares? The fit against the wing is also less than stellar Brute force to the rescue! After the nacelles and wings were "done" i started with the cockpit. Etched belts were a nice touch, but the look a little oversized. And the rudder pedals looks very small Ok, All etch was finally installed After that, the kit was boxed for a while, until 2013 when i started to paint some random bits. Black basing in the cockpit Interior grey-green sprayed at and angle, just so. Look, I did some detail painting too But it went back to it's box again. Until this weekend, when I brought it along to have something to do during a model competition. End of the historical era.
  12. Valom is to release a 1/72nd Fokker T.V bomber kit - ref.72102 Sources: http://www.valom.net/pripravujeme_en.html http://www.aviationmegastore.com/fokker-tv-bomber-expected-december-2015-72096-valom-vaclav-lomitzk-859405429096-nederlands-militair/product/?action=prodinfo&art=132048 V.P.
  13. I have the new Valom HP Harrow kit (the "Toothy Marking" boxing), and it advises overall RAF Dark Green for one of the schemes, which is a 93 Sqn machine, K6994, in 1941 with a toothy grin and red talons on the wheel spats. I was wondering how accurate this interpretation is, and if anyone can share photos of this machine please:
  14. Hi This is my first gallery in this forum, so maybe few words about me. I'm from Poland and I'm mainly building americans planes. I like putty for plastic and send paper , so my last model is Northrop BT-1, which released VALOM. The build thread can be found here. Bye for now, Jaro
  15. I picked this up on the T7 Models stand at the Yeovilton show a few weeks ago (thanks Martin - nice to meet you!) In a moment of madness I didn't put it down again. Box by Ced Bufton, on Flickr Here's my attempt presented after one of my longest and most challenging WiPs which, as usual, includes all the steps and some great tips and support from fellow BMers. Untitled by Ced Bufton, on Flickr Untitled by Ced Bufton, on Flickr NMF is AK True Metal, the waxy sort, which I like (a lot). Two used on this, Aluminium and Dark Aluminium. Not primed but 'brushed out' and allowed to dry overnight. Seems to be OK but I've not top coated. It also allows different finishes, buffed or non-buffed and handling produces some interesting 'weathering'. There's some references in the WiP for those who are interested in the development of this 'interesting' type. Thanks for looking, comments welcome.
  16. I picked this up on the T7 Models stand at the Yeovilton show today (thanks Martin - nice to meet you!) In a moment of madness I didn't put it down again. The 'instructions' (copyright acknowledged): Untitled by Ced Bufton, on Flickr Great subject, scary kit. There's a review on modellingmadness.com and an entry on Wikipedia that gives a great history of the type. You know I like 'weird' so how about this lot? the YFM-1 (the designation was for (Y) a prototype (F) fighter (M) multiplace) was a unique design incorporating many features never before seen in a military aircraft, as well as several never seen again A single forward firing M4 37 mm cannon with an accompanying gunner was mounted in a forward compartment in each of the engine nacelles. Although capable of aiming the cannons, the gunner's primary purpose was simply to load them with the 110 rounds of ammunition stored in each nacelle. The large crew of five included a fire-control officer in the nose who used a Sperry autopilot and an optical sight to aim the weapons. This crewmember could also use a periscope mounted below the nose to monitor the rear and, hopefully, spot enemy fighters coming up in the Airacuda's "blind spot." The cannons had a tendency to fill the gun nacelles with smoke whenever fired and, additionally, fears persisted as to how the gunners would escape in an emergency, with the propellers directly behind them. Sorry, I can't carry on... have a look at the links There are two previous builds on BM, both in 2012, one by rkennerley of a previous boxing and another of this one by Jb65rams in an Interwar GB. I'll post some sprue shots when I've calmed down...
  17. Finally finished these two Valom models, Bristol Buckingham B1 and Buckmaster T1. The Buckingham was originally developed in response to the Air Ministry's request for a bomber version of the Beaufighter but by the time it had been developed the role had very adequately been filled by the Mosquito. 54 Buckingham B1's were built the rest of the order being converted to Buckmasters to be used as training and fast transport aircraft. Like all Valom kits the panel lines and rivet detail is very good but then they are let down by the fact that the parts don't fit too well, such as wings being thicker than the wing root. They also lack a few details because Valom always try to produce too many variants without changing the basic mould, so both kits have Brigand wings without the correct air intakes for the Buckingham or Buckmaster etc. Enough waffle, here's some pics.
  18. Excluding 1/350 aircraft for ships, this is possibly the smallest model I have completed. This is the excellent Valom 1/144 Sopwith Pup. The moulding is very crisp. It includes a cockpit, which is very small and didn't quite fit without a shave around the edges. It includes 4 markings options, which give a variety colour options. The wing struts, and landing gear are photo etch, which was really easy to use in this scale. I frayed 'Rig-it', which is a lycra thread, down to a single thread and used super glue to apply the rigging. It took about 3 hours to rig. I'm pretty impressed with the model. It was a 3 day build. Now, Back to something full sized. Regards, Alan
  19. Hi, I've just finished it. The last (so far) of series of Jack Northrop designs of all metal single engine monoplanes from 1930. - which all are related, one to another. This is BT-1 - the underpowerd dive bomber and then advanced trainer of US Navy, a precursor of BT-2, which then became a very scuccessfull SBD Dauntless (when produced by Douglas, not Northrop). Basicly its is OOB build (Valom "BT-1, 1942" kit) - I made a small difference in decals. I made machine as perhaps looked later in 1942. But anytime I can add red circles in middles of white stars to go back to begining of 1942...The markings are from NAS Pensacola. I only increased height of aerial after analyes of some photos it seems to me neccesairy. Photos are with halogen lamp - day is too short to catch good daylight. Sorry for this... And two photos of whole set of Jack Northrop's single engine monoplanes from my shelves: from left and aft: Spanish Gamma 2d (scratch conv. from Williams Bros. Gamma 2a/b), Chineese Gamma 2e (scratch conv. from Williams Bros. Gamma 2a/b), Iraq DB8-4 (MPM), US Navy SBD-3 Dauntless (Aifix), first row, also from left: US Navy BT-1 (Valom), US Army Northrop Delta (scratch conv. from Williams Bros. Gamma 2a/b), RNoAF/RAF N3PB (Contrail vacu). The contrail N3PB has shorter chord of the central part of wing, but the construction of wing looks so similar to others (especially Gamma/Delta/A17 or DB8 - BT-1 and SBD have shortered outer parts of wings) - I wonder if it is not a mistake of Contrail? Comments welcome Regards Jerzy-Wojtek
  20. Here is my latest Valom offering, the 1/72 Bristol Bombay Mk1. This has been a long and 'interesting' build, WiP thread here. OOB build (as usual for me) primed with Humbrol grey plastic primer, underside Vallejo Model Air aluminium and camoflage Vallejo DE and Humbrol DG (latter brush painted). Guns and bomb racks omitted to represent the transport variant (and because the supplied guns are pathetic and I'm too lazy to scratch build). First flown in 1935 the Bombay was introduced in 1939 and retired in 1944. I believe only 40 were in service and this one stalled on approach and crashed. Wikipedia here and, as usual, no colour photos for reference. The build thread has lots of references (please have a read if you have any questions - it's only 21 pages!) so I'll go straight into the photos of the completed model. Here's what I was aiming for and my attempt at a similar shot of the finished model: And some more colourful shots... Thanks for looking!
  21. This is my first RFI and there's a somewhat protracted WiP thread here. I hope you like it. This is an OOB build (more or less) - the kit comes with additional resin and PE parts. Research shows that this "brute" was a challenge and the Boys of 84 Sqdn certainly had some experiences in Malaya, where the climate had detrimental effects on the aircraft including, but not limited to: - main undercarriage failing to lower - propellor blades 'departing', usually resulting in the engine going with it - air brakes not operating in the dive. More information here. Possibly the worse problem was that the Brigand tended to shoot itself down: "The losses of several aircraft during strafing runs and several more being damage led to the discovery of a deadly problem. The long cannon blast tubes that ran beneath the cockpit seemed to have the tendency of trapping propellant gases when the four cannons were fired. This gas would occasionally ignite when the aircraft used high explosive rounds, the resulting explosion would damage hydraulic lines and fire would severly damage the aircraft or cause it to crash." In a great example of British grit "At one point, the commanders of the units that operated the type began to have doubts over the wisdom of continuing operations."

  23. This is the build thread for my entry (as of now) in the Bomber Command group build- the Valom Vickers Wellesley I. First, the box art: There wasn't much sun when I took the pictures of the sprues below, so I played with the lighting settings on my camera and then the contrast to capture the geodesic detail on the kit. The detail is still a bit unclear: The kit comes with two fuselages, the other for the LRDU variant, perhaps? The floor windows and the lower fuselage window shown on the box art aren't provided in the kit. I'm not sure if I will add them yet. The wings. The lighting makes the geodesic framework fainter than it seems, but even then it's not too pronounced: The kit comes with some photo-etch, photographed here with the clear bits and the decals (the blue is a bit suspect): I found this post by Mark Davies on the Hyperscale forum which points out what needs to be added to the kit, and what things to watch out for: http://www.network54.com/Forum/644810/message/1406161131/ That's all for the moment. I hope to have some parts painted and some small bits assembled by Monday.
