  1. Greetings folks, Here is my latest completion OOTB. The old but still quite nice Ki-84 Frank. It built up like new mould Tamiyas and required no filler. Fit of parts was up to their high standards. I haven't built many Japanese subjects at all really but this aircraft type has always appealed to me. It is reputedly the best single engine fighter in the IJA arsenal. Pics taken in my new light box, which is struggling to accommodate larger 1/48 scale types. Anyway, here are the pictures.. The model depicts Staff Sergeant Joten Naito's aircraft from the Kurai Unit of the 502nd Temporary Interception Corps March - May 1945 Nakatsu Airfield. Thanks for looking, Cheers Greg
  2. And so after 48 years of building plastic models, I have finished my first German WWII armour - started many, first time finished. Please feel free to make any comment, criticism or ask any questions. Have a great weekend all. Ian.
  3. #27/2018 And my dad has finished the next bird. Tamiya kit, Eduard decals, Hasegawa wheels, Ultracast seat, Quickboost wing guns, EZ Line for antenna wire, Gunze and Tamiya acrylics. Build thread here https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235043298-against-the-odds148-focke-wulf-fw190a-8-jg300/ Model shows the aircraft of Leutnant Gustav Salffner, 7./JG300, Lobnitz/Germany, March 1945. 4. Hi, Can anyone tell me please, how many sprues are included in this set? cheers, Peter
  5. Hello all! While recovering from my pulmonary emboli I started up the old Tamiya I ausf E. I’m still pretty run down and most of the work done has been done in small 10-15 minute work sessions. I’m building the kit from the box but making a few refinements along the way. I had this kit ages ago as a kid so I’m looking at it differently these days. One of the refinements has been to thin the smoke discharger brackets. They still need more thinning but look heaps better than before. I also filled some holes for a grab handle only the Bovington Tiger had and did away with the front spare track bracket. Now should I build a Citadel das Reich Tiger or a 501st tiger? 🤔
  6. Building all these 109s, my dad almost forgot the 190ies. So he started a late-war JG301 A-9 using the Tamiya A-8 kit with decals from the Eduard A-9 The Tamiya kit includes the bigger wooden prop. 7. Morning All, With the release of the new Revell Beaufighter there seems to have been a steady stream of them lately, so as I've not done a RFI in this section I thought I'd join in! This is the classic Tamiya 1/48 kit. No real fit issues apart from ones I created myself, like having the wheel bays closed. Paints are a mix of Vallejo and Tamiya, I scratched up some extra aerials here and there and got some plain while markings for MB T, I don't think it's right but I prefer the look to the yellow or red options. All comments, criticism and advice welcome. I should have said at the beginning that this is my first attempt at a 1/48 model, working on the Tamiya Spitfire mk vb and the Special Hobby Seafire at the moment so it won't be my last. And a couple of edited pics just for fun. Hope you like em. Geoff
  8. Time to post some images of my first ever Tamiya kit, as my usual diet consists of Czech short run kits or conversions of bombers into something more civil. I used an Eduard Zoom set for the interior and a CMK set for the dropped flaps. The kit decals are nice, but as I wanted to depict a late war F4U-1D from the USS Cape Gloucester, I used a sheet from Barracudacals. I hope you like it. Peter
  9. Hi all, Thought I'd share my recently completed model. First time trying out mottling and boy its a challenge. I used a variety of Gunze and Tamiya paints. I chose to paint the blue band instead of using the decal so I could have a bit of a fade effect on it. I really love the simplicity of Tamyia kits and the detail. I think their new pilot figures look really neat too. I can't wait for more BF109 variants. Hope you like the pics!
  10. Finished !! Sherman tank! first real attempt!
  11. Well with all these Zero's being built I thought I might as well build something for them to shoot at, and what better or more iconic target from the beginning of the war in the Pacific than the Brewster Buffalo. Now don't get me wrong I really like the Buffalo and believe that it has been made the scapegoat of early Allied losses as if the kill to loss figures for it are studied it actually scored more victories than it had losses, and lets not forget what the Finn's were able to do with them. I will be using the classic Tamiya kit which whilst not as detailed as more modern kits has good outlines and should build quite easily, and it certainly looks like a Buffalo to me. Lets start as usual with the box top and contents pictures. As you can see it has been slightly started (by me a few years ago) but has been given the go ahead by our host as it is less than the 25% threshold, here is a closer look at the insides of the fuselage which is most of whats been done. Apart from the kit parts I will be using a few extras, namely a replacement engine from Quickboost ( a necessity as the kit one was missing) and some aftermarket decals from Aeromaster which have been in the stash for a while. As you can see the replacement decals are in much better condition than the original kit ones. And that brings me to the choice of scheme. Rather than go with the often built RAF/RAAF/RNZAF options I'm going to build an aircraft operated by the Royal Netherlands East Indies Air Force which were used both the defence of their own territory and also in the defence of Singapore, and they have the interesting orange triangle markings, which were later replaced with the Dutch flag. the pictures below show the aircraft on the decal sheet I will be building and give it's pilots potted history. I have the use of a couple of reference books for this build. I hope to be making a start on this one over the weekend as I believe it should be a relatively quick build, which will let me get back to the builds that I've already started and should really be working on. Thanks for looking in. Craig.
  12. One of my first real builds any tips ? https://ibb.co/jQJJ9U https://ibb.co/eRvLOp https://ibb.co/eShd9U
  13. Hi guys, I will also build as Modeling Minnion a Tamiya 1/48 Brewster Buffalo in Dutch markings of the ML KNIL ( Militaire Luchtvaart van de Koninklijke Nederland Indische Leger), but I will give it the flags as markings instead of the orange triangels. I have also got a decal sheet from Aeromaster for this and a Quickboost engine as well. I will place some pictures of it later on. Cheers,
  14. Hi all, With a visit to Modelkraft 2018 at Milton Keynes yesterday, I came away from the show with nice big box of a 1/72 Vosper Perkasa MTB by Tamiya. I didn't appreciate how big these boats were when I compared it with my BPB 63' HSL...huge! Anyways, I have seen the Perkasa in the RFI and noted a comment or two about the model. I will be building it as an RN craft, so is their anything to be aware of or enhancements that can be carried out? Nothing in the WiP section either, so this at some stage could make an appearance there. Stuart
  15. I was asked by the local air museum to built a radar equipped fighter as part of their Radar exhibition. An all black Beaufighter festooned with radar aerials seemed like a good fit. Pretty much out of the box with Ultracast seats and exhausts. I'm not convinced that the codes should b red but I was on a tight deadline so went with the it supplied ones. It'll get battered Once its there so I'm not worrying too much The overall finish is Tamiya black with patches of NATO Black and Panzer Grey but the flash has evened out the tones. The kit was a pleasure to built, it is a bit simplified but That worked in my favour. Thanks for looking
  16. My uncle asked me to do take a crack at this kit for him after I built an Iron Patriot for my cousin. First time I've worked with a motorcycle kit. Fairly simple, but my word I wish Tamiya didn't chrome plate the parts >< Without further ado, here it be Gaz
  17. Ahoy folks, I have a question. My uncle has had a motorcycle kit for years and asked me if I'd put it together for him, but I've run into a potential snag. The decals for the kit, on the artwork and real pictures, are white. Mine have a cream tint, but its not on the carrier film, rather the actual text. However, the dial needles and markings still appear to be pure white. Has anyone else owned this kit to know whether they're supposed to be this colour, or weather I should try out the 'tape to window and let the sun fix them' technique I've just looked up? Cheers in advance. Gaz
  18. Hi all, I would say that's quiet "old" model, i built it about year ago. Added Aries Exhaust and Pe belts for seat. I hope you'll enjoy as much as I 😀 ]
  19. If you check your modellers dictionary under the heading of 'Shelf Queen' you may well find a photo of this wee thing - Tamiya's 1997 Jeep... apart from the stowage, .30 cal belt and the M1 carbine, straight from the box. First figure I've painted in about 25 years and thoroughly enjoyed it. Started just before Christmas 2011 and finished this afternoon ! As ever please feel free to comment, abuse or ask a question. Have a great weekend y'all... :soldier Ian.
  20. I’ve been questing after a 1/16 Abrams since 1995 when I picked up the Jim Shirley Productions resin 120mm scale (remember when that was a thing?) kit...and botched it with expanding foam filler! Now I’m converting Tamiya’s 1/16 M1A2 into a M1A1 in Australian service. Thanks to one of the cavalry regiments being granted freedom of entry to Brisbane last year, I finally have a good collection of pics of a single tank: ARN 055, c/s 31B “Cersei” of C Sqn, 2/14 Light Horse Regiment (Queensland Mounted Rifles). Having been working on this for a while, here’s a selection of “in progress” pics. Replacement of the kit rails & bustle with Plastruct 1.25mm plastic-coated wire: Enhancement of the kit anti-slip with Tamiya textured sand paint: Replacement stowage bin handles: Scratch-built bustle rack extension progress: And some overall progress: Thanks for looking.
  21. This will be my first build of two l hope . (i will try and load the pic`s later !!!)
  22. Hi all Been working on this one, quite a nice kit although there are lots of ejector pin marks all over the inside of the cockpit which are a bit of a nuisance. Extra details were added inside the cockpit such as details on the sidewalls, wires and seatbelts. The Pilot seat was also modified. Here is a link to the small WIP Thanks for looking All the best Chris
  23. Finally, something that isn´t German in my collection, Tamiya´s 1:48 J2M3 "Raiden." The decals worked well after soaking them in hot water for a moment, however, the Hinomarus over the wings didn´t totally conform to the raised details of the ailerons. The model was brushpainted with Revell 40 Black Green for the upper surfaces, and Revell Satin 371 Light Grey for the undersides (which was a pain to paint).
  24. Hi guys going to build a 1/48 tamiya bubbletop. Meant to be a nice kit was tempted with Eduard photoset have but don't fancy splashing out plus all the kit detail looks top notch. Have bought some amdg decals which are in the post. Going to build this one, (I just posted the link for the image so hope I'm upsetting anyone copyright wise) I like colour scheme as it's OD over NMF with the upper wing invasion stripes painted over. So should be good fun with weathering. There's also a shark mouthed razorback on the sheet so maybe another later... Look forwards to starting Joss
  25. My dad hasn´t built an Emil for a while now, so he decided to give the Swiss G-6 some company and build an E-3 too. Using the good old Tamiya kit with Cutting Edge decals. Won´t be an oob build because we found out, that the Swiss Emils differed from the German versions in some points, so some changes and adaptions have to be made.
