  1. Hi all, This is Tamiya's Bf109 E4. I used Eagle Cal decals for Major "Assi" Hahn's aircraft stationed at Le Havre in 1940. Was going to be my last build of 2015... This is my first Tamiya kit, (a present- thx Chris!) and my first 1/48th scale...plenty of howlers, but I liked it a lot. The vast areas of yellow aren't my favorite though...( hard to make them look good). Click the pics for a larger view.... Thanks for looking, all c&c/insights welcome Cheers, Dave
  2. just to show that I do finish kits occasionally, this is the last one I completed before I left the UK 10 years ago. It represents the aircraft flown by 1st Lt Foy R Garrison of VMF`213 and as far as I can remember was built straight from the box, it shouted build me NOW when I opened it. I hope you enjoy it, any comments welcome John
  3. Hi, This is my last finished model. It's Tamiya's VW type 82 car coverted into the radio car. All the information I could find online was this photo, so I decided to go ahead and make an conversion. Since not many references were available, I took some artistic freedom. This is the reference pic: I've cut out the roof, made roof guidelines, fabric roof, new windows for all but front windscreen, interior details regarding the radio equipment, door details, changed rear seat area to fit the radio equipment, used Tamiya's clear resin for headlights... Gaspatch for turnbuckles, eduard for details on radio mast, EZ line for small lines, electric line for those loosened antennas on the front. Here's the finished build. I hope you like it. Cheers, Kristijan
  4. Hi guys, i've started a Tamiya Spitfire in US markings a few months ago (i'm not a quick builder). I've enhanced the cockpit with plastic cards and tin wires. I've used an Akan shade for the interior green. Thanks for watching, Cheers, Manu.
  5. Another type finished for the collection. 74 Sqn`s desert Spitfires were not blessed with any special or interesting schemes, not even unit codes while in the MTO, which makes for a rather bland model. Supermarine Spitfire Mk Vc 74 `Tiger` Sqn ES200/`F` MTO 1943 .... and a final shot with the type the Spitfire`s replaced in December 1942...,
  6. Hello All, WIP number two... painted, decalled, pin washed, chipped, filtered and ready for oils..... 250/10 from Culvers pz colours vol 1 Thanks for looking and happy to answer questions. Happy modelling Ian
  7. Hello! I just wanted to share my Bf 109 E4 flown by Helmut Wick. I spent the Tamiya kit some Eduard photo etched parts for the cockpit. The kit itself was a real joy to build, but the painting required some patience, especially the mottling. I only have two photos for now but I will add some later.. Feel free to comment!
  8. Hi, Just completed my Tamiya P47 Bubbletop, hope you like it. I decided on an RAF version using the LMS decal set, just to put a twist on the usual P47 theme. It's also my first real venture into resin accessories, in this case the Aries gunbay set which worked out well in the end, but I didn't realise how paper-thin you have to grind away the original plastic to make things fit. I plan to set it on a sandy themed base in due course with a couple of mechanics doing their thing, since the original aircraft was based in Egypt towards the end of the war. Thanks for looking, PB
  9. Hi Everyone, finished this the same day as the MiG-21 I posted last week, Tamiyas 1/48 Mitsubishi Hyakushiki Shitei III Kai, Otsu type , but I always thought was a `Dinah` Originally bought it so that I could have a `Brown` Japanese type amongst all the green and grey ones........... ..but I couldn`t bring my self to destroy the types lines with the huge cannon sticking out of the top. 99% OOB with just the brake pipes and seat belts being added Easy build but the decals gave loads of grief and some had to be removed and painted or replaced ( I had the same trouble with my previous `Dinah` I recall ) Speaking of which... Here`s the `Recce` version I did with the Tiger on the tail some time ago Hope you enjoy looking at, Cheers Russ
  10. Hi folks, and a belated Happy Xmas to all. Being a born & bred Brummie and having lived for some years as a kid on the estate built on the old Castle Bromwich airfield I decided I wanted to do this one as a locally-built example. This is 149 Sqn HK794, OJ-O (or will be when I can source the proper-sized decals). The kit started life as a Dambuster/Grand Slam version bought cheap from Modelzone, the additional bomb bay sprue bought separately along with Xtradecal serials and Eduard flaps, straps and cockpit: Last one, a size comparison with the Airfix 1/72 Dambuster (old mould). You need serious display space for this one. Regards JA
  11. Hi,this is Tamiya kits.I used some home made etchet parts, scratchbuild Derwent engine
  12. This project of a Japanese aircraft with many hours of flight, arm in January 2012 I can add a deeper review etc.. I prefer to explain a little the techniques used. Base: aluminum Peeling, or chipping: salt technique, in this case use coarse salt or cooking. Paneleado: Pre-painted with black in some areas and others in white (aluminum parts) Using pigments K-4 (hmm I'm going to charge for advertising space) The contrasts of the panels were made with something that occurred to me (first tested on a painted board). Use a matte varnish base (first eye put gloss varnish for decals), hence I started applying gloss varnish panel by panel, avoiding applying it paneleado lines. Well here the images
  13. Morning folks, I've just purchased the lovely Tamiya Mossi FB/IV kit. I built one of these years ago without any aftermarket extras and really enjoyed it. Now, I'm planning a little tribute to the Banff and Dallachy Strike Wings, with the Mossi and a Beaufighter. I am planning to upgrade the kit a little with an aftermarket cockpit and maybe some other bits and pieces. Any opinions on avalable resin and etched sets? Cheers for now, BlackBart.
  14. Hi folks OOB build of a great kit despite its age. Finished in Alclad II Aluminium with Superscale decals, I think this should really have a blown hood but the '95 vintage kit decals broke up in the water and this was the closest match I could find (earlier 336th F/S birdcage hoods were painted in olive drab). Thanks for looking J A
  15. The new Tamiya kit is a ripper as I nailed this together in 3 weeks. No filler was used at all and the only real thing I could fault Tamiya on was the rear gun has the gunslight moulded in normal plastic and not clear as it should be. Thanks to those who provided me with some into and a pic of one of the 71 Mongolian aircraft to be used by the country from 1945 to 1954, I decided to be different as usual and build one of these. The number 24 and the Zoyombo insignia were cut from masks and painted, except for the star which was salvaged from an F-104 sheet of decals. The camouflage was done freehand with Gunze and Humbrol with the new Tamiya flat used to dull everything down.
  16. Hi Everyone, Thought I`d show you some pictures of my Tamiya 1/48 scale, F4U-1a Corsair that I completed last summer Done as a Corsair II of 1834 NAS, HMS Victorious, July 1945. Decals from Xtradecals `Yanks with Roundels` pt 2. Otherwise OOB apart from chopping off the wingtips and adding a few bits of wire here and there probably a few small details incorrect but hopefully no big Howlers Hope you enjoy looking at.
  17. Hi All, Tamiya's 1/48 scale "Corsair" Brian
  18. Gents, has been a while since my last finished model. I went through one of those seasons on which you work and dont finish anything, am sure aim not the only one. Anyhow, i finally completed this beautiful "pure sang" a marvelous aerodynamic study for the time, streamlined , smooth lines, even on the ground looks fast. Hope you approve. Best regards
  19. Hi everyone, just finished my 1/48 scale Tamiya Skyraider Done as A-1J, `The Hasler` of the 602nd Special Operations Squadron, USAF, South Vietnam, 1968/69 Pretty much out of the box, only additions being; whip aerial, brake pipes, the little yellow handles at front canopy edge I always miss... home made seatbelts, canvass cover over the gubbins behind the seat, wiring harness from bits of wire and nylon thread Decals are a mix of the kits and some spares off a long gone Italeri kit another to add to my collection of unmarked SEA aircraft Hope you enjoy looking at
  20. This is my first attempt at a WW2 Luftwaffe aircraft, so please, any constructive critism is more than welcome. Built completely oob. Luckily it was the clear edition, so it came with engines. I just cut back the cowlings on the exposed one.
  21. Hello! Here is my 109 from Tamiya. No additional accessories were used. But I took the white scissors from the Kagero book "Jagdwaffe over England". The plane was painted with Gunze/Vallejo. Then a washing with thinned black and brown pastels was done. After decals a strechted Q-Tip antenna completed the model. If you have any question just ask! I hope you like it!! Greetings
  22. This is the one of the kits you must build before you die, a huge pleasure to build. Hope you like it Saludos
  23. F-16 CJ Block 50 'Wolfpack Bandits' 8th Fighter Wing, Kunsan AB Korea October 1987 Tamiya Block 50CJ F-16 (should be a block 30 but who cares) - Extra bits are the Eduard etched parts for the cockpit including seat belts, Aries exhaust and TwoBob decals. Mixture of Tamiya and Xtracylix acrylic paints plus some Alclad metallics and gloss varnish , Flory washes and vallejo matt varnish to finish it off.
  24. Just finished this one tonight, Built OOB. the kit is the Tamiya 1/48 F4U 1/2 Birdcage Corsair.
  25. Hello all. This is my very first post on these forums, mostly using IPMS Norways forum. Anyways, this is my try on Tamiyas IL2, a very nice kit, and guess ill build more of them in the years to come. Was supposed to be totaly oob, but had to scratch seat harness, and gunner seatstrap, due to the carpetmonster. Paint is Vallejo, and the model is toned down with Humbrol matt coat with a drop of white. Some pics: Thank you for watching. Any comments welcome, espescialy constructive and learning ones
