  1. Just finished this one, Hasegawa's 1/72 Ki 61 Hien or Tony. Originally released in 1973! the Hasegawa kit has fine surface detail on the outside but the cockpit was a seat base moulded to the floor and didn't even have a control stick. Used Eduard photo etch (long out of production) for the cockpit and Rising Sun's decal set with ski conversion (also out of production) Considering the kit was older than my wife it built up pretty well, the plastic was quite hard compared to more recent kit's I built but cant tell if this was down to age or how Hasegawa made it. Time had not been kind to the ki
  2. A very old build, from 2006, 13 years ago. You should always have a scratchbuilder friend, since it seems to be fate that whatever we convert or scratch it's eventually released as a kit. This TB-3 model has recently been re-released in the guise it took me a lot of work to create many years ago. I have no idea up to which point there is a mold commonality, it seems to be quite a lot, but not having the new kit I can't really tell. Good for them, more civil models! Old review and build text starts: Oh boy. What a massive modeling project. As many of you, I saw this b
  3. I have long been wary of biplanes.... Not sure my building skills are up to struts and bracing wires. But what with the direct fuselage / upper wing join - this looked a safe starting place. I will train myself up toward a Swordfsh, which I have always wanted to make - my grandmother sometimes flew in them during her time in the WRENS. Anyway - the kit was great. Nice level of detail. Easy to build, but not a total cake-walk. Just right. I decided to go for a fictionalised aircraft, a hastily 'winterized' one... I really enjoy the hairspray technique, and wanted to ha
  4. Hello All, Here's my Revell re-box of the Frog Bristol Blenheim, lightly converted to have retractable skis: Sorry for the wierd "daylight vs electric" lighting effect, but I just couldn't get a decent shot yesterday. Work in progress thread is here. I was inspired to do this example by the picture shown here. Here's my reproduction of the shot: So I need to source some spinners (I think the Revell re-box of the MPM Wellington II may provide these) and build a trailing aerial dispenser. Since the photo was taken I have rigged the top aerial - I'm now wondering if th
