  1. Hello all, I started this build about 3 weeks ago, and it's coming along nicely. I started making car models because I wanted to model my car, but I only wanted to use an airbrush. So alongside that model, I got this GT350 model as well to practice on off of eBay. It was open box, and I thought everything was there, but it wasn't complete as I thought it was. The only missing part was the two taillights. I have two options; buy the taillights off of eBay for 7 USD (not including shipping, which is about 1/3 of what I paid for the open box kit itself), or download a free GT350 model and 3D print just the lights. I plan on 3d printing the missing part and using the money to get the paints. I also realize the tires that came with the kit are somewhat contradictory to the instructions. The tires should have been open on both ends, but instead I got... I'm going to have to figure out how to get the wheels mounted. Also, what is the best way to remove rubber flash? So far, I have the chassis and engine completed, as well as the basic construction of the body. The interior parts are about to be primed right now. My plan is to paint the body Acapulco Blue, and using all the stripes that came with the kit. The body before primer. Going to need a bit of modeling putty. I plan on using Vallejo paints for everything but the body. I will be using Splash Paints for the exterior. If anyone has a problem viewing these images, let me know. It's my first time embedding images on a forum.

  3. Have we ever had a single type group build for a car? What else could offer more variety in both colourful prototype cars and a plethora of kits than the original Pony Car the Ford Mustang? None! So; any scale, any material, any year, any kit, for street, for strip, for a raceway with turns too, factory stock, street machine, race car, Shelby or "secretary" Mustang, Mach 1, Boss 302/429, GT, Bullitt, 1964 1/2 to 2021; this is it as long as it's a Ford Mustang! Any takers? 5. Hi all, A quick post. I bought this kit from ALDI here in Australia for about $20 (about US $13 or £12.50) with the intent of building it with my 10 year old nephew. He has never done any airbrushing at all so we started off sanding the body and getting rid of all the seam lines and giving it a coat of primer. This was back in January 2020. He got a bit heavy handed in a spot of two so I sanded it back at got it ready for painting. Then the world changed with the Corona Virus social isolation rules so my nephew could no longer come around. I decided to crack on without him. So I applied 4 coats of SMS (Australian brand of paint Scale Modellers Supply) Dark Bronze METALLIC and the clear is their SMS Ultra Clear Coat 2K. I tested the 2K on the bonnet and following the instructions to the letter (15psi and ratios of 10:5:1 Part A B and thinner) I found some slight orange peel affect. I reached out to the owner of SMS paints and mentioned my problem and if the activator was a slow, medium or fast and got told it's normal. For a hot climate in Brisbane this means the clear goes off too quickly and doesn't have time to level properly. So it was time to spray the rest of the body. I have had amazing success with Gravity Paints 2K clear at 30 psi so thought I'd try that with SMS. I also increased the thinner to 20% to try and slow the cure and give time to level properly. Here are my results. So my findings suggest 30 psi 20% thinner and the final wet coat go to town on it. I doubt you can over do it unless you hold the airbrush in the one spot for too long causing runs. When you think you've put enough down fill up your airbrush cup and do another fully wet pass. All of you in a hot climate may find this helpful. These pictures were taken after approximately 45 mins after the final super wet coat. I am extremely happy with the results and stoked to find a great 2K clear locally in Australia. I cracked on and tackled the engine next. I de chromed the intake manifold and rocker covers whick looked rdiculious and resprayed them with AK Extreme Metal polished Aluminium. The engine block was painted with Mr Hobby aqueous blue and the gearbox with Metal aluminum. The exhaust manifold was done with Mr Metal also. I decided to leave the carbys and air filture in the standard chrome parts. The fit and flash on the kit so far is pretty bad. More to come soon. Cheers guys
  6. Here is my latest build, and a first for me as I have never built a 1/12 scale model before. Must admit apart from the lack of detail, I am really enjoying this build. Decided I didnt like the chrome wheels So de-chromed them and sprayed in satin black
  7. So far so good. Can't wait to give you more. Flickrhttps://www.flickr.com/gp/154999142@N05/E96N05
  8. Well, she's finally done: And finally a couple shot with a different lens that should be a better approximation of what a human eye sees looking at one of these: A really nice base kit, noticeably enhanced by the Fine Molds white metal parts. Thanks for looking! bestest, M.
  9. Hi Everyone, Just wondering whether anyone would be interested in a Mustang group build for 2016? I am sitting here watching a Supercars program on the mustang from NatGeo HD and it has set me thinking about building another Mustang. My proposal is that you can build any model of Mustang, any era, any colour etc. Let me know if you would be interested. Lets bring the horses to life and launch the Pony Express EDIT : This is know a Mustang Car STGB. So anything 4 wheeled with the name Mustang are viable choices. PARTICIPANTS LIST 1) Rickpadwick1801 2) MadSteve 3) Graham77 4) depressed lemur 5) richellis 6) Suicide Badger 7) snapper_city 7 down, 8 to go. Cheers, Rick
  10. Hi Everyone, I have just completed this build. I have used Revell acrylic paints to complete this build. Silky matt black for the body colour. I decided to do this build as a custom paint/decal build for myself so it has the blue decals on it. Anyway here are the photos : This is my first muscle car build that I have completed in 2014. Comments welcome. Thanks for looking. Rick
  11. Hi Everyone, Here is my next project : Revell 1/25 Shelby GT500 Normally this kit is painted in Ferrari Red with Black decals, White with Blue decals or Brown/Steel mix with White decals. I am not doing any of these colour schemes. I am going with a Gloss Black body with the Blue decals from the kit. All of the chrome accent parts are going to be used. This is my dream car, so I am doing it as a custom build for me. Anyway here are the sprue shots. I have aready started painting the engine components so will be starting assembly of the engine components later and then its onto the chassis etc. Photos tomorrow. Thanks for looking, Rick
  12. HI everyone, This was supposed to be a quick build that ended up taking over a year to complete. When it finally dawned on me that I have more stalled projects than completed models, I decided to set things straight and finish what I had started so I could roll these two beauties off the assembly line (read- cutting mat). The kits are fantastic – full marks to Revell for fit, accuracy and mold quality. Both models go together without any craziness or drama. There is sufficient detail to allow for a reasonably good looking model without the use of PE or having to scratch-build your own parts. I chose the box-top schemes (Performance white with blue stripes for the Mustang and Rally Yellow with black stripes for the Camaro) because they are very attractive as they are – didn’t feel the need to go the custom route and modify the cars or go for outrageous paint schemes. Overall, I’m very pleased to have these two solid muscle cars sitting side by side on the shelf. The only thing that annoys me is the scale compared to the rest of my collection – why are American cars in 1/25 scale anyway, when most kits use 1/24 as the standard? Is it because the 50’s and 60’s American cars were much larger and model car manufacturers needed to somehow reduce the size? Anyway, here are the pics!
