This is easily the biggest snap-together plastic kit I’ve ever had to put together, so big in fact you need two people to assemble it! It’s in need of a couple of aftermarket details but as these can be added at your leisure, I’m calling this one done! RFI This is the side door variant of the 1175 (hence the SD designation), although it shares many parts in common with the more regular end door 1175, it doesn’t provide the optional parts for that version. Reminiscent of a Matchbox kit from the 70’s/80’s, this kit comes pre moulded in different colours matching the current grey lo-viz scheme. There’s no decals and it can be painted using conventional wood preservative if you fancy doing a “what-if” scheme. For a multi media kit (there are some metal parts), construction is quite straight forward and follows the conventional process (e.g. floor, walls, roof trusses, roof, fittings and transparencies, doors and final detail parts), the instruction sheet is very clear and guides you through the process, it is recommended that you follow it to the letter as laid out until quite late on in assembly when I was able to construct the doors whilst the transparencies were fitted along with other smaller fittings. However, I did manage to fit the hinges the wrong way around on one door but that was easily fixed! Fit is very good, some minor fettling is required to get things to click into place with a satisfying clunk, it is particularly important to make sure that the roof to wall joint is correctly assembled particularly at the corners – nothing difficult, just a bit of care needed. Surface Detail Surface detail is excellent, perfectly capturing the tongue and groove construction, the wood effect looks spot on and I found no need to break out a riveting tool. The other fasteners such as screws and nuts are perfectly reproduced – well done Keter! Authentic Fastener Detail Transparencies are commendably clear and to scale thickness, no need for a dip in Klear/Future. Clear Transparencies I resisted the urge to carry out excessive weathering although I did dirty up the floor with Wez Garden Authentic Mud, a spot-on match for the clay-based soil typical of this theatre of operations. External weathering is very subtle at the moment but will come in time. Subtle Weathering As this shed is being used in the garden shed role, typical loadout in the form of aftermarket accessories include garden tools, a potting bench, some Ikea shelving and of course the obligatory lawnmower. Final detailing will be in the form of guttering, the aftermarket water butts already being in place. I’m very pleased with how this one has come out, please feel free to comment. Thanks for looking.
