  1. Just wondered if anybody could offer some advice about a small number of items, the first of which is putty... I used two types in my younger years - squadron green when available (was rare) and Tamiya. The Tamiya product was easy to work with as I recall, but once sanded and conformal was prone to shrinking over time, which meant there was often evidence of a gap that had been filled once the kit was painted...this was quite frustrating. Can anybody offer suggestions as to which product would generally be the Modeler's choice these days please? I'm hoping the Tamiya issue was user-induced and not a fault of the product itself. Also, regarding Scribing. This is new to me, my teenage attempts were rather crude and it was often better just to ignore the lack of detail (easy enough for me with 1/72) than to slash the plastic in whatever razor-like fashion I practiced at the time. Again, am hoping members could offer advice on which way to turn for a tool that is best suited for 1/48 aircraft panel lines? There are a couple of other things I wanted to bring up, but they escape me at this time of the night...I'll add some more later. Many thanks to those of you who've taken the time to read this and can impart some wisdom.... Launchpad
  2. Hi All i mistakenly bought an old-toll Revell (ex Matchbox) Halifax recently and have decided to use it as a bit of a plaything and experiment with new techniques. One thing I'd really like to crack is scribing panel lines. I've managed to restore those lost to filling and sanding on previously built kits but this monster is more like a blank canvas! - except for the few trench-like gouges in the plastic. My questions to the gurus here are: 1. What's the best method of filling the existing trenches? I'm thinking of using superglue & talc mix rather than sprue gloop as I think the latter may weaken the plastic? 2. How do I transfer the panel lines on the plans to the plastic? Is it a case of picking suitable datum so and working from there by measurement? I plan to draw the lines onto the plastic first so mistakes can be erased before I scribe. Thanks for any tips Edge
  3. Hi Folks, In the midst of my "other builds" I am looking at the Airfix Hampden that I have in my stash. I will sand down the good old Airfix bumps and scribe in the panel lines accordingly. My question pertains to the panel lines: I have (and am using) the Warpaint book on the Hampden (and Hereford) - and I know there are 1/72 scale plans within the book - would those plans be valid for determining panel line layout? The reason I ask is they seem, to me, a bit "excessive" (it appears as though there are a A LOT of lines on the wings for example). Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you kindly, Dave
