  1. Does anyone out there have the colours references (FS or otherwise) for the FAU roundel and tail flag? I need to get a set of decals printed. The market seems strewn with various shades, particularly the blue. My gut feeling is that the blue is close to Midnight Blue but it would be great to get conformations. Any ideas @Ignacio @RAGATIGER @Mig88 @Sturmovik et al? Thanks in advance. Martin
  2. A question for those in the know - when was the yellow ring added to the C type roundel (to make it a C1) on the upper surface of the wings? And was it added to the lower surface roundels at the same time. Specifically I'm interested in Spitfire Mk XIVe's (highback and bubble) prior to VE day. The Extradecal sheet I have shows a C type on upper and lower wings, and the Airfix decals for the Spit XIVe show the C1 type in both positions. The Airfix markings are for a post VE day aircraft but I'm wondering if the would be applicable to pre VE day aircraft. Thanks, Colin
  3. Hello, I am building the Airfix Typhoon. I have a query about the upper wing roundels. The decals scale out to match a 50 inch size roundel. To me this looks too big and it overlaps the edge of the leading edge wing lamp. Wikipedia indicates a 42 inch roundel was used as an exception to the standard on the Typhoon up to January 1945, and then all 2nd TAF aircraft were changed as detailed below: “Type A.1: FromJune 1940: Single and twin engine fighters, light and medium bombers 35 inches. Exceptions: Hawker Typhoon 42 inches, Westland Whirlwind 28 inches. Heavy bombers, transport aircraft 49 inches.” However the same article also says “January 1945 to June 1947: On all 2nd TAF aircraft, Type B upper wing roundels were either converted to 55 inches (140 cm) type C1 roundels or over-painted and 36 inches (91 cm) type C1 roundels painted on. “ https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Air_Force_roundels A 55” roundel would be even bigger than the decals supplied in the kit! 58mm in 24th scale. My guess is that the 36 roundel might actually be the best bet, but there seems to be some confusing information out there. That scales out at 38mm in 24th scale. Much smaller than the 53mm kit version. Both card door and bubble kits have the same size decals. This size is repeated in the Eagle Cal decal sets too. Nowhere can I see info which says that a Typhoon carried a standard 50 inch roundel. Surely they can’t all be wrong?
  4. Hello guys and girls! Just finished what has to be the best model I have every built! Ever so proud of it! Also first time I tried out using Humbrol weathering wash, (First time using a wash at all!) Also first time using Humbrol Clear, and it works a charm! The clever people say that it is basically the same as Johnsons Klear. Anyway, back to the model. It went together ever so nicely, and only took a few days to complete, and that was to my own surprise rather quick compared to what I normally do! But I just could not leave this model! So, this is how it turned out. _DSC0774 by Matcham11, on Flickr _DSC0775 by Matcham11, on Flickr _DSC0776 by Matcham11, on Flickr _DSC0777 by Matcham11, on Flickr _DSC0778 by Matcham11, on Flickr _DSC0779 by Matcham11, on Flickr Robin
  5. Hey All. I've recently acquired the Academy 1/48 Bubbletop Thunderbolt and having had atrocious results with previous attempts to use Academy decals, I've planned to use decals from other sources. I'm considering finishing it in RAF, China-Burma-India camouflage (Dark Green, Dark Earth, Med. Sea Grey) and instead of sourcing an aftermarket decal sheet I'm contemplating buying either Italeri's "new" Spitfire Mk Vc or Hasegawa's Spitfire Mk VIII "Against Japan" kit as they both contain the appropriate light blue/dark blue roundels and fin flashs (sort of a "two birds, one stone" approach). My question is... Were all the two tone blue roundels the same size regardless of the aircraft or were there slight size variations as with the traditional RAF roundels? Any info on how either of these Spitfire kits build up would be equally appreciated Much Appreciated Kyle
