Good day fellow Britmodeller's and welcome to my first build thread in a very long time. In this thread i will convert a 1/200th scale Dragon Avro Vulcan to from a B2 variant to a B1a. As some of you may know i have built a few of these and really love the kit. I have an idea to cover most the vulcan's variants in this scale in various schemes also and mount them on a stand of some sort perhaps all in flight in formation in order of age. I have long been fascinated by how different b1 vulcan's and b2 vulcan's were and i just really love the early kinked wing shape. there is just something about it that appeals to me and i don't know why but i love it. So the difficulty is in creating that shape and i'm not good at maths at all being dyslexic but i found a rather quick and crude way. I downloaded a b1 silhouette image of the net and used the flat screen of my lap top to size it against the kit part (i couldnt have done this in 1/72 so there are some advantages to 1/200 when you like doing stupid things like cutting its wings off!) Then i used a piece of plain a4 paper and drew out with a ruler the shape of the silhouette. this became my plan. then i had a 1/200th b1 shape to use joy! Next i put another piece of paper over that traced out the shape with the ruler again then cut this out and then masking taped it to the vulcan along the wing join line and then carefully used a fine tip marker to outline the wing edge. Then took a dremel to it and then a file to tidy up. then i took the bottom half of the kit and drew on the next parts to be removed and this is what i have a lovely b1a vulcan in 1/200th (well getting there anyway's) here are some photos of the real thing the photos are not mine but im very gratefull of there existance and it is very sad no b1s remain. and a line up of b2s so for those who are not aware of the huge difference in wings you can have a look. time for a coffee!- 183 replies

Hi all I recently got lucky and picked up the extremely rare FROG Avro Vulcan B.MK.1. It is the only Vulcan B1 ever Kitted. The lindberg is not very accurate and more reflects the 1st Prototype. The FROG however for its time is pretty darn accurate. It has a few issues. The tail fin cap needs rescribing a little lower. The radome although right in style its a little miss shapen. But a better attempt than airfix's proposed radome line. For its time an amazing kit. It is from the early 60s I believe and was made from the original plans (say's so on the box) It even has quite finely recessed panel lines. It is an interesting item as it is totally different to the B2 the stance of the wheels gives it a taller nose up look. Makes it look very imposing and looks like shes flying stood still. The wing is also much smaller more flat at the back and has a cute subtle kink still being very pyramid like and It is this breed of Vulcan that earned them the nick name "Tin Triangle" Initial B1s were silver before the pre anti flash standard white scheme. I am chuffed to bits with this as you can imagine and whoever build it did a darn good job. I notice they started to mod the intakes more on that later lets look at what we have to play with. This is gonna be a challenge I need to scratch the intakes ...... YIKES ! Cheers Rob

Well this was one of those "Quick Builds" That got fit into gaps between other projects and life events and 3 years later finally emerges as finished.. I love how shes come out Its my attempt at XL426 as she was in the VDF days battered and faded to hell just before handing over to the more famous VDF bird XH558. Hope you enjoy its my first post in RFI for ages now. Rob

Well I am very happy and excited today as a few days ago I received an email asking me If I wanted a 1/144th Valiant for simply informing them my postcode so they could send it. I was not sure but thought "Why not I would love a Valiant". So I did and was soon sent a Tracking number. I asked is this for real !, The person on the other end of the email said "Yes you are the first to receive it". Well that was a surprise and as I have just turned 30 what a way to start my 30's. It has arrived today all the way from Ukraine. So I was mega excited when I opened this a few minutes ago and sure enough I have a nice 1/144th Vickers Valiant. Most welcome as a V-bomber lover and I have therefore started a build. I don't have a clue what I have done to deserve it but I am indeed very grateful indeed to have the opportunity to make it. Its rather Ironic as for the last 3 months I have been off here working on a secret project I am soon to reveal that could be related to this. But save that for later lets have a loot at the wee beastie But just before we do I must say I am sorry to hear that today a plane has crashed In Ukraine and its a sad irony that this model plane should arrive from Ukraine today. R.I.P. 1st off lets check out the box art which looks very cool indeed. Here is one of the sprue's containing the landing gear. Engine faces etc.. Gear bays and intakes which are split in half. I will have to do something with those and try take molds of them to make some resin replacements. The Undersides of the wings etc Beautiful top surface of the wings. This is a part of the Valiant I have always thought attractive. Beautiful aircraft. Here are the Fuselage halves I was kindly given two canopies The decal sheet looks beautifully done I must say. And something I would never think to see with a kit like this PE ! I got a nice 2014 catalogue which I can post picture of the contents if anyone wishes. Nice clear instructions always helpful I am not sure on which Valiant I will do yet. But it will be a white one as pictured here. Not necessarily these airframes though but that's a long way down the line yet. Well I will have to look through our own General Melchett's build of the Airfix kit and look for any issues with the kit. I think it looks fantastic overall. But will look for any areas to correct as we go and if folk wish to point stuff out please do. This is my first MikroMir Kit and I must say I like it. It has a retro vibe and reminds me very much of old FROG kits. The plastic seems nice and thick so this will be a totally new experience for me and I look forward to their Victor !. Well I have been away for a few months and the urge to file, glue, paint, etc can not be left Hungry any longer. So to satisfy my hunger I have decided to give myself a quick modeling snack in the form of yet another dragon vulcan. I love these little vulcans small though it maybe they make into a gorgeous little platic triangle. This one I started in may and stalled after my last 4 I built. One I still have not posted in RFI xm606. This one will be XL426 as seen at the end of her flying days with the vdf very badly faded in what was dark sea grey and dark green but what at the time 1983-86 looked decidedly chocolate brown and med sea grey. For this I will be using humbrol 155 olive drab and 165 med sea grey and should give a scale effect once weathered a bit. So far I have done the intakes and engine faces and glued then in place and fitted the two fuselage halfs. The biggest job will be blue taking the camo but I find this relaxing (good job that!) I have had this lovely kit for several months now I picked it up at Milton Keynes IPMS show and have been desperate to start it and not had the time. Today I have started this lovely kit and wish to make a model of the Prototype B2 this will mean deleting the wings carrots , tanks and trimming the leading edge modifying the tail fin and intakes. I am using the Excellent article and Drawings by out very own Bill Clark from SAM August 2006. The Drawings are fantastic by Arthur L Bentley I wonder if there are Drawings for the B1 The initial B2 looked very elegant and similar to the B1 as I have made a model of XH533 the Prototype B2 Vulcan again being similar to the B1 I thought they would make a nice pair and I am fascinated with the early years at Farnborough. Hi all. This is very late arriving here I made this in December 2013 for my Dad's Christmas Present and I finished it in the small hours of Christmas Eve after working on it for a few weeks every day. A wonderful kit for the money a bargain and highly recommended to anyone wanting a nice big Spit. It has a few issues with the front canopy and rear fuselage for a MKVB I am told. This aircraft has always been special to our Family as my Dad had an Original of the painting of this aircraft coming out of a stormy sky. I had to got to Mel at Miracle Masks who made me the codes which you can't get in decal form having an odd font and size. Same goes for the serials which Pip Moss kindly made for me in decal form. Both performed wornderfully. I brush painted the Codes, spinner and band with revel aqua sky. The main colours are HU163,106,165 From a rattle can and Humbrol Matt varnish from a spray can. I added a metal foil mirror, Decal instrument gauges and used a citadel wash in the cockpit along with the wrong colour green... The decals where good but fragile so watch for that. Chalks where used for the weathering. All in all a great kit Cheers Rob

Its been a very long time since I posted here in RFI. Here is my 1st Resin Model and its one I molded myself. This is the test shot from a trial mold and trial model for some resin conversion parts for the Pit Road GWH Vulcan B2. Its taken a while and the project still has a long way to go with further changes to make. So far this is 2 to 3 years work and still lots to do. The mods in the end where so extensive that my Dad suggested why not mold the whole plane and that I thought sounded fun and went ahead. This is a solid Resin Vulcan with a separate solid resin tail piece. Temporally on modded Corgi wheels. I hope this will be the first of many and my second master model for molding is on the way but I may remold the original from which this was cloned soon. List of mods include: 1.Totally new wing shape with entirely different control surfaces and many other detail differences. 2. New nose shape and cock pit shape both detail differences and corrections. 3. Narrow intakes but a bit too narrow on this one partly due to the kit being too fat partly difficulty in the small scale. 4. Original tail shape with rudder extention 5. Original Tail cone with the second style extended tip 6. Cheek piece intake added. 7. Removal of all the many detail differences on the belly top fuselage and jet pipes. 8. bomb aimers window corrected and blister re-profiled 9. Wing pitos added 10.Re-scribe of the radome area tail and other details. Painted with Humbrol Rattle can paints and Revell Aqua paints. Decals from Mark1 decals who make the right size for V bombers. Hope you like her. Apologies for the photos these are from mid summer 2014 when this was completed. Lots of photos but wanted you to be able to compare them to the B2s one of which featuring my Resin Tail and tail cone. Cheers Rob

Well I have had a very stressful few weeks and in between my commitments went to Southport Airshow. I have just got to the stage were I have worked myself to illness and need to recuperation chill time and have decided to build yet another model of a Vulcan. This is the little Dragon Kit 1/200TH Scale and despite its size being about that of a 1/72 scale spitfire it is the most accurate model of a Vulcan available except for a strange extra 2 wheels for the front which you don't have to fit its got the shape right including the nose. and splitter plates. I wish they would blow this one up to 1/72 scale it would be fabulous. I am doing mine as XH558 (again) This time I really want to make her look as she did in 1992 when I first seen her I have got to an age where I am starting to feel old and nostalgic about that era I also wish to use her as a colour experiment for some paint I am hoping to use on a bigger project. So far I have: Cleaned up and primed then painted the intake halves using Revell Gelboliv with black added to deepen the tone. then glued them together and sanded the seams then painted them with a bit of sponge glued to a cocktail stick to get all the way inside them. I always add W&N Flow improver to the paint to stop streaks and make the paint level off. Then I sprayed the inside fittings and inner intake lips with HU64 as a Primer I also use this as faded MSG often and will likely do for this build. Then Painted it with the Darkened Gelboliv. Then I used a sewing needle for the IFR probe, I recently started fitting these to my older builds of this kit as for some unknown reason it never occurred to me before, The hole was drilled by hand with a 0.8mm bit from hobbycraft in a Pin-chuck its surprising how easy these drill bits cut in. I never fancied using the tiny plastic job which is less strong that a hair it seems. I fitted this with super glue after checking the length was right. This time I actually bothered to fit the seats just to mount the Sewing needle onto. After priming I brush painted the Engine faces with 3 coats of Revell Aluminium again with Flow Improver added, Its fantastic paint and brushes very well its also highly reflective. So I am back at it, I know I have lots of other threads started but I as I will be soon busy in a few days this is just a bit of much needed RnR as I love painting so much these kits offer just what I need. I wish Cyberhobby would continue their line of 1/200 models they are all wonderful and "Fun" kits. I also picked up cheap their premade model of XH560, I bought this out of curiousity to see how it faired against the kit, It is the same thing molded in ABS Plastic, Not totally satisfied with it I have started correcting it and the first thing I did was start breaking it down as it was just taked together with super glue, I have since repainted the Intakes LAG , These were not painted despite the design cleverly allowing you to paint them white or Light grey as on many Vulcans, I also obliterated the fin flashes which were reversed on one side and will fit new decals, I then Drilled and fitted the IFR probe again using a sewing needle, and removed all the awkward pitotube/aeriall thingys which were not all accurate and clumsily fitted, I will just fill the holes over and patch it up. I also removed the TFR Thimble as XH560 did not have this. I also patched up the green paint on the inner intake lips they missed off with Revell Nato Olive which matches the colour they used and looks like Faded RAF green. Then I super glued it all together again and now I am masking the the bottom off to spray grey instead of white and then go over with LAG, So its like a part build kit now. I had always thought that all vulcans that were in the original and later camo schems had white intakes (because airfix said so) but It seems looking at photos many of the 70s one had Light Aircraft Grey or white, I always thought it looked like that, Lesson learned don't always believe all you read, trust your eyes. I have had withdrawal symptoms,, Never knew modelling was truly "Adictive" Cheers Rob

Now is the season of EVIL!"- '' (Quote Lord Vigo from Ghostbusters 2 ) That is one of the inspiration's for creating this Dio along with the early 90s computer game Quake, an a recent watch of one of my favorite films Robin Hood Prince of Thieves on tv recently which to my surprise was totally different and featured a many long and cool scenes some totally different to the original PG edit, Many of an adult nature, One scene was of Satanic Worship or Dark occult worship of the ruling men around a table humming a deep evil resonant hypnotic passage hand to hand with a map of England on the table with a pentagram over it and a cloth on top. This inspired and fascinated me as has old gothic buildings the medieval era and secret societies. I have been asked to make some models for Precision Ice and Snow for Telford so I have decided to just use my imagination and do some modelling of a different kind that is totally fictitious, The Idea is to create some place of Evil ritual, Possibly one abandoned,, For now at least.. On a distant world of coldness, Barron and empty with symbols such as the all seeing eye, pentagrams and alters made from skulls, with a vortex gate suspended in a frame to link to another place, This is the kind of place that will not only make you feel cold in temperature, but cold with fear from the symbols and sense of powerful magic, a place were the threat is quiet but applied effectively with a defined confidence that will make you want to run... Or just an interesting building that's going to be fun to make.. I was not sure were to post this but this is the closest outlet for this I could see. Cheers Rob

Just starting this thread off pictures soon to follow, I have another race against time to get some models made in time for Telford show, This is one of a few I hope to get done for the Precision Ice and Snow table. I intend to do a standard wraparound Harrier GR3 OOB *(well tempted by some am maybe) sat on the corner of an airfield where some snow fall from previous days has been swept away and fresh frost has settled on and around the Harrier. Hopefully so you can still see the cammo and roundels through the frost, So I will be using a 3M spray to get a fine effect. I am starting this off now as I need to ask a few question about the Harrier GR3 concerning painting of the intakes. The instructions call for the cup where the turbine face to sit in to be painted black , I thought white , Has anyone got good shots of the intakes on a GR3 in the wraparound scheme. I take it the green and grey extends inside and then the inner colour deeper inside starts. I am thinking of adding fod covers but still want to paint the insides. So the race begins firstly with me clearing off the work bench so I can start.. Cheers Rob

Well I did not think I would get anything in ready for inspection this year, I am not sure but I think this is my first of 2014. I have been doing plenty modelling off site but had to complete something and was particularly drawn to photos of XL444 in her Wraparound scheme. The Kit was a Joy to build she is temporarily on Corgi undercarriage which I repainted as these are more accurate in height, stance and shape than the kit parts though a bit simple, Till I have finished my part scratched ones for her. I decided to tint the windows but have since noticed that its only the front 3 however it seems to add something to it I like. The paint is Revell Gelboliv (yellowish olive) for the green which was brush painted and the Grey is Hu164 From a spray can. Decals : Wolfpack for the roundels which are the right size unlike the kit ones. all the stencils are also wolfpack , Fundekals for the circular panels. So Here are the photos hope you like her. Hi and yet another Vulcan build from me. In wraparound scheme either XL318 617 SQN, Or XL444 50 SQN. I have many threads going on here I used to have a policy of once started must be finished before you start another but this last 18 months that has gone totally out the window, Now viewing the shelf of doom as a shelf of enduring joy and variety I keep switching projects and starting new ones. The inspiration running high from my new experience of attending shows and seeing some amazing work on here lately. This one I am starting quite late into the build as there is not much to this kit being basically fit the cockpit and intakes then close her up and add about 10 parts. So.. I just thought I would share with you the few mods and corrections I did to this one and take it from there I also seek to correct the height of the Vulcan as On my last build of one I noted the whole thing sits way too low and looks a bit lacking in self esteem. So first of a little experiment. I have long loved the look of tinted glass and its not particularly obvious on the Vulcan but they do seem to have an browny slightly orange look to them sometimes. Accurate probably not but I decided to brave it and have a little experiment. I mixed up some Underwoods Floor Polish from Lakeland, With a few drops of Revell Aqua Brass, Revell Aqua clear Orange, Citadel Clear Brown Sepia Wash and got a brownish orange, slightly metallic clear paint. I applied this with a cotton bud on the inside and then gently rotated it so the droplet of paint gradually dried over layering itself until I was happy with the density of colour. You can see I have also used some drawings to correct the bomb aimers window (too small) using tape on the drawings (Tip I got from General melchett taa) Then transferred to the model for a rescribe. The bomb aimers blister is also too proud, the edges are too sharp and there is a weird step in front of it that needs to be removed. Some Vulcans had a small plate here but it was no were near the size of this so I cut it back with a mylar stick I have much reduces the intake splitter plates they are way over size but in reality they are actually quite restrained again these were cut back with a mylar stick. I also have started to heavily bevel the lips of the intakes as these should be very rounded and not sharp as in the kit. Now to the nose profile, I have not gone crazy here but I have attempted to reduce the hump on the top of the nose, For some reason people seem to think the Vulcan has a bulky front nose were it should actually be quite tapered. It still should be more so, But I don't want to go to far, It seems Pit Road were unsure as there is a defined molded line that looks like they added a layer which is not apparent on any Vulcan so this was all sanded away the main area is the mid top of the nose. The canopy also has a hump that should not be there but I am again only going to slightly reduce this, Also the read canopy should be 1mm Longer with a gentler curve but I can live with this. as it looks ok. It now looks a bit more as it should. The top of the tail on the RWR fincap has a prominent raised area which I have sanded back, It might be there in reality but looking at photos they look more like this too me so I sanded it to this profile. The nose hole was opened up and drilled into the Milliput weight inside to add a replacement piece of wire, the kit probe looks very weak and a bit underwhelming. I wanted it to be strong and more powerful looking so I will replace this. I used guitar string to mask the windows with child’s PVA which is easily removed with care at the end. The canopy looks very orangey on the frames but the panes look more subtle but I can only hope it looks ok at the end. If it don't,,, Oh well, It will be an interesting convo starter at shows maybe. So that gets us nearly to the paint stage. Cheers for now. Rob

Hi all. Welcome to my summary of the year. For me 2013 has been a funny year I was sick for the first 5 months but it give me plenty of time to model. Its been a great modelling year for me and I got to meet many people of here attending my first shows at Cosford and Telford WOW the model shows Rock as do the people I have had a lot of inspiration this year and modelled more that ever. VULCAN B2 XM650 Well I have been making many of these Dragon 1/200 Vulcan's Here we have XM650 XM605 Vulcan B2 again Dragon 1/200 made the same time as XM650 XH558 1992 Vulcan B2 This is another Dragon kit Made to represent XH558 In 1992 I changed some of the decals and made my own too to make the entrance door script and the old large dayglow orange ejector seat triangles. I also tried very hard to get her camo pattern as close to accurate as I could. VX777 AVRO 698 PROTOTYPE 2 AVRO VULCAN. Dragon 1/200th kit again but heavily modified wings, engines, tail, tailcone. decals from xtradecal. XA900 Vulcan B1 Extensively modified Dragon 1/200th Kit modified wings engines tail and tail cone. XH498 Vulcan B1a again and extensively modified Dragon 1/200th mainly wings and engines but the tail cone tip is different to the others. My old Dragon Vulcan B2 XH588 which I added new decals modified the tail etc and basically refinished. XJ783 Vulcan B2 This is another Dragon 1/200th with modded tail cone. XM599 PIT ROAD 1/144th Vulcan B2 in intermediate 60s/70s scheme Lovely kit this. XM606 Vulcan B2 70s scheme Dragon 1/200th kit again Can't get enough of it (noticed lol) XM575 Vulcan B2 Dragon 1/200th no mods HARRIER GR9 Revell 1/144th finished on New Years day 2013.. Lovely little kit. My ongoing upgrading and modding renaming renumbering Hornby A4s Most the paint is original Hornby but numbers/letters come from Foxx Transfers, Nameplates from Model Masters and Foxx again. Gloss from Humbrol rattle cans Minor paint variations by me. Mallard 4468 as preserved in the 60s onwards Sir Nigel Gresley 4498 As preserved in the 60s Bittern 4464 as preserved today Peregrine 4903 Mallard 60022 with Andrew K McCosh 60003 TORNADO Revell easy kit from the early 90s bought for my by my mum and dad. I decided to stick it together and paint it up one weekend for a quick bit of fun. Airfix DRAKEN Whiff repainted this year into a fictitious German scheme just for the hell of it. No story for this one I am afraid other than I had spare paint and decals I liked. SPITFIRE MKVb 1/32 Hobbyboss Must be the best model I have made and my dads Christmas present. Finished with base at 3.30 AM on Christmas Day with a pint ! T34 My first ever Tank This is the Armour fast OOB. HARRIER GR3 Matchbox. For the Very good fun Obsolete Kit GB The Jaguar still is not finished but might well be before the year is out. Cheers to Col Enzo and Mish with the GB it was great fun. XH535 Vulcan B2 GWH 1/144TH Kit on a QRA Pan dio Based on Waddington made for Precision Ice and Snow for the Telford IPMS show. That was a lot of fun. FOXBAT Hasgawa 1/72 made for Precision Ice and Snow at IPMS Telford and for the Obsolete Kit GB LANDROVER In the snow Diorama. This was My First ever Diorama and Made for the Review I did for Precision Ice and Snow and Also Displayed at Telford IPMS. Going to Telford and Cosford displaying the models and meeting people was the Highlight for me. This was the 2 Tables. Precision Ice and Snow Telford. and Cosford impromptu showing next to Canberra Kids Table. It has been a fantastic year for me. Ups and downs with health and family stuff but there has been more modelling than I have ever done. This post has shocked me to be honest and its great to look back and see what went one. I hope you like the photos Some of the Models here have not had their own RFI yet and some models are not featured here that I have made this year but this is the main highlights. Hi all I have kindly been aloud to enter this old kit I got from Telford. I love old kits and I really love Matchbox. The plastic the look the nostalgia its all there I can remember when they were everywhere and at my local paper shop.. Them was the days.......... I also picked up a heller bobcat t4 harrier, a matchbox hunter T7 and with the many old kits I have I am spoilt for choice, I really like this GB and might enter more yet. I have a plasticart Comet 4 That I would love to do as and RAF bird but cant find decals or possible livery options for that one. I may enter Frog Vulcan too ... Lets see how this goes. I am a huge fan of the Jaguar and oh how I miss them. They really were beautiful. The kit is very nice and fit is excellent so far. I only started her this morning over coffee. Cheers Rob

Well I have really let myself in for it this time. I am building this as a Christmas present... I think I might have underestimated the build time... The last 1/32 Spit I build was the old and lovely Revell Mk1 with my Dad when I was Lad but it was a lot simpler than this... I was not sure what to expect I got this thinking WOW only £39.99 ! DEAL.. I hear it has issues and some bemoan the kit but it looks good to me. much as I LOVE Spitfires I am not an expert I know quite a bit about them but not the really hardcore details of them all. All I can say is I have just got it opened it and can't believe how much you get its even got some PE which is new for me and for £39.99 compared to the £19.99 for the little 1/200 vulcan thats sat on top of the sprue pile for comparison I can't see whats not to like Bargain! Hi all This is on of my 3 entries for the fantastic Obsolete Kit GB. It has been really good fun and the hosts Enzo and Col were fantastic as was Mish and everyone who took part. I was invited with my Old hasegawa Foxbot build. Which I will post later. However after that I got the itch to make more and after coming back from Telford I have not stopped modelling since (I think I picked up some bug I am modelling more than ever...) So with that I entered with this delightful Old Kit and a Matchbox Jaguar that did not get finished in time. This kit is old and basic but the fit is great and it looks like a Harrier. Excellent for when it was made but not the most accurate perhaps but I love it. I sprayed it with Humbrols excellent new spray cans HU163 and HU164. Blue tak masked, Other paints for the engines and interior were Revel Aqua and Citadel paints. I did drop her and smash the tail wing off the day before the end.... But I rectified that thankfully... Here she is Many I had to take the photos of her on my knee in the car as I was so close to the deadline but I love how she looks in the blueish light of night. Hi folks well its my first Vulcan with the wheels down not including the lindy I made for my dad. This is her as she was on display at Telford this weekend. I have really enjoyed this build I hope you enjoy the photos of her. She is on a diorama base I made to represent the end QRA pan at waddington. Hi all this is my very first attempt at scenic modelling and my first ever diorama. It is the first result from my review of the new Precision Ice and Snow product that Steve at Precision Ice and Snow asked if I would do a review for him. Hi all good britmodeller folk welcome to this the first of my multibuild on th WIP section. It has been fun and long and its no were near finished yet so if you want to follow the rest here is the link: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234936632-1st-one-finished-dragon-vulcan-b1a-2-b1-big-surgery-for-3-small-kits/ This model is a holy grail for me with special significance and a funny ironic link that makes me smile. For when I was a kid I had bought for me a video called the vulcan story in the middle was full colour footage of very pretty white vulcans that looked somewhat different to the vulcans I'd seen. My dad told me "there're b1s",,,, I said "b1s?" He replied "yes b1s they were before the b2s and a totally different aeroplane much smaller" he then said "get your grandad to take you to raf cosford they have a white vulcan and victor there from what I remember" From there the fascination started and me and grandad went vulcan hunting at cosford. We walked around and found no white vulcan or victor but we did find camo ones outside along with a trident argosy vc10 and Belfast oh and a javelin and blue steel missile all rotting away. Me and my grandad were best mates went to cosford alot and other places he loved aircraft and my models he give me tools and taught me much. It was only about 10 years later through the Internet I learned there was indeed once a vulcan b1 and victor b1 at cosford as late as 1986 and they scraped them (great british preservation in action) the vulcan was xa900 the last of its type and a totally different to the b2. I see the comet that was displayed with them survived. Later on last year I made a model of xh533 I modded the back end to the b1 tail my grandad said I should do a b1 so I did and decided to do a WIP and ended up ironically getting invited to bring it any others to cosford show by britmodeller friends general melchet, cliffb, Canberrakid and others Ironic cosford will be my first model show were I will bring a b1 vulcan and were my fascination for the type started and were me and my grandad used to go. Were the last vulcan b1 was and my grandad would have been proud I was doing this. So I decided to finish ths one as b1 XA900 and I guess I finally hunted her down in the end lol. It's funny how these little links happen in life Ironic indeed and I'm really looking forward to going along to the show. Hi this is my first post in a few months the model was completed earlier in the year but this is its first real showing off since the build. the lovely smaller Vulcan B1a XH498 Performing a display in the 60s..... hmm Here she is the day before cosford show and before the satin varnish was applied. This is were she started. Hi folks this is one I am very happy with its the Pit road boxing of the new Avro Vulcan B2 and a wonderful kit the only fault i can pick is the air intakes would be easier to paint if they had made the turbine fans a separate fitting. I managed to do the white inside but the engine faces are white too as i cant think how to paint them but as they are buried deep it does not matter that much. The fit was fantastic and this is the second one if have done and will be making more definatly. The model was painted with Humbrols already excellent but now significantly improved since coming back to the UK. spray cans. I cant believe how good these are at levelling out and giving a gorgeous almost indestructible finish. I used hu 163,165 for the top camo green first then grey with the help of blue tak, hu64 for the undersides, and hu 34 for the white patches and intakes, The radome and fin were hand painted with hu33 with a dash of flow improver from W&N AMAZING STUFF! Its nice to see a model of a vulcan that finally gets the vulcans sinister looking radome outline right the only company that nailed it before was frog. The exhausts were brush painted with the excellent citadel paints chain mail. Any way on to the model all comments and questions welcome. This is my 1/200th Dragon Vulcan B2 photos taken edited and uploaded with my iphone. Painted with humbrol rattle cans and weathered with citadel nuln oil, a pencil, and some dark grey chalk. Now the weather is getting better i will be giving each of these little 'ns its own place on here rather than the old group shot which didnt really have that good photos. hope you like her. So here it is a kit kindly given to me by a fellow BM member well over a year ago! I have kept looking at it and putting it away as its a bit different to what I'm used too. I'm not planning on starting it till the dragon vulcan b1s are done that said I want to build it this year but I need some advice in the mean time about the nature and methods of such a kit. I know little about the history of the kit but if looks unusual to me The fit it terrible on the fuselarge halfs I could fit my leg in there. The plastic is very sence and feels like resin The vac form canopy scares me as I have never done a vac form So if any of you chaps want to share tips and maybe photos of how I can improve the kit and the interior that would be welcome along with general discussion on variants schemes takes as I love the venom and would like to learn more so ..,, Here she is: She looks cute that's for sure ill probably build my plastyk sea venom alongside too Cheers Rob
