  1. A strange old Month which started off with a dose of Covid. The main symptom was fatigue and although I was testing fine by RIAT week I really didn't feel like driving up to use my Friday ticket. On Sunday a friend messaged me with the offer of a departures day pass and after a bit of thought I decided to go. Starting off with Newquay. Photography there has become a real pain, the Spaceport building site has narrowed the possibilities down considerably. I was delighted to finally see a French A330 MRTT, but only just! I was sitting in the garden with the Mrs when a friend messaged me saying it was descending over Devon. A quick dash in the car saw me miss one approach, but luckily it did a couple more. The Osprey spent a weekend at Newquay, flying sorties each day. The Army Dauphins arrived late one evening. RIAT Departures Monday; Still got loads to plough through but here are some of the ones I've looked at.
  2. In 2017 the Flanker returned to RIAT. With 58 Blue the Ukrainians gave the spectators an absolutely amazing display of this legend from the Cold War. The kit is the Eduard Su-27B Flanker Limited Edition, with a load of extra resin. The digital camouflage was applied with use of the Begemot masks. Not an easy thing to do and with lots of touch-ups. The build started late 2017, so it took me about 2,5 years to finish this beast.
  3. Hi all, Here are a few of the more acceptable pics that I took on Saturday at RIAT. For me the highlights were the Mig-21, Su-27, F/A-18's and of course the Harriers, in fact it was almost as good as RIAT used to be. And before you get too critical I took theses on a compact camera, anyway here's the pics; Hope you like them. Craig.
  4. Evening All! I attended RIAT last year and saw the incredible display from the Ukrainian Flankers. As soon as I saw the scheme I knew I had to do it. Luckily, Foxbat do decals and paint masks for the Ukrainian digital scheme. The Academy kit was used as the base and I added the Neomega cockpit, canopy from Yufei (haneto), Quickboost nose and traffic cones, Aires exhausts, DAN models FOD covers and the NorthStar Models towbar. I decided to do it as it was at RIAT 2017 with the famous blue cones. Overall, the Academy kit wasn't too bad, however with the amount of AM I had added, blending everything in took many attempts. The nose cone was too large for the kit and the canopy took lost of blending (I'm sure it was down to my poor cutting of the canopy and not the mould!) I aded the blind flying hood to the canopy from stretched sprue and tissue paper. The scheme was painted with the AKAN Ukrainian digital camo set, however I found most of the paints to be way too dark and had to be lightened extensively. In the end, the scheme was actually quite easy to paint after having a couple of arguments with the masks. The NorthStar models towbar was great and fell together. I think it's a nice addition to the scene. Here's a few photos. Hope you all like. 5. Evening all, Thought I'd begin my coverage of RIAT with a selection of images from the two arrival days. Wednesday proved a frustrating affair with the switch to RWY 09, resulting in hazy approach shots, but the quality of trade up to that point more than made up for it. Thursday saw the usual West end frustrations, but again, it was a case of quality over quantity, though we were all incredibly grateful to ATC bringing the Flanker up our way after the initial communication difficulties! 6. Hi Everyone, This was my first visit to RIAT and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. My wife and I were going to go to a different airshow, but decided we would try RIAT out. As soon as the show finished, I said to my wife that I would like to go again next year especially as the theme is 75th anniversary of the USAF. I hope they bring the big bombers over including the B-2. I couldn't believe how many members went to the airshow this year, I wonder if I saw any of you without realising it. My wife and I were sat to the right of the P-8 Poseidon patrol aircraft all day and had a great view of all of the displays. Anyway I'll let my photos do the talking. Comments are welcome, if anyone would like to know what gear I used I can get the specs off the gear and put them up here tomorrow. 7. Evening all, I've been rather quiet on here for a while now, as my modelling takes a back seat to my pursuit of 1:1 scale aircraft. July is always a hectic month for me, with the headlining shows all taking place within a few weeks of each other, so I've had very little spare time that hasn't involved watching aeroplanes, taking thousands of photos and subsequently ploughing through editing them. In truth, I've barely scratched the surface of many of the shows, but though I'd share a handful from the best few weeks of the year, starting with a the WW1 commemoration show at Old Warden at the start of the month. 8. Wonderland Models would like to say a big thank you to everyone who came to see us at the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford. RIAT is always a highlight in the summer events calendar, and this year did not disappoint. It is always great to see so many familiar faces. We hope you all had a fun weekend at the show, and took advantage of some of our bargains while you were there. If you missed us at the show, don't worry, we still have many great sale items available on our online store, as well as our usual wide range of plastic model kits, diecast models and radio controlled toys.
  9. Without doubt the star of the show for *me*. Even if that so called F-35 turned up, these would still win, hands down. 10. Had a great few days down at RIAT despite the appearance of an F35. I didn't get the best of locations unfortunately so i was a fair distance from the crowd line but still super enjoyable! I'd pay £40 to see a pair of Su22's taking to the skies anyway of the week! As usual, Monday proved to be the most fruitful . Bigger lens and better spot for next year me thinks!
  11. Hi Everyone, I don't know how many are followers of Vulcan XH558, but the trust have just emailed a newsletter around advising that XH558 won't be displaying at RIAT this year. Apparently the display schedule for the Saturday and Sunday are completely full, so the plane won't be there at all. I have always wanted to go to RIAT, but won't go as I love seeing the Vulcan fly. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Rick
  12. Hello I thought I'd do this group build. I recently discovered my local model shop and have been 3 times in the last few days. Today I bought this kit for £5 - and it's entirely complete. I was pretty suprised to be honest but happy with it. The only thing I want to do is get different decals - I hate having generic USSR decals so I might get some Polish ones or print my own. This is the last kit I'm doing entirely by hand I hope (airbrush should be coming soon) but the first I'm going to build extra detail for - including printing cockpit details, making some joysticks and such from spare parts, and so on. Any advice is appreciated but I'm not going for the most accurate model ever. I'm not as amazing as some of you lot so it frustrates me too much to do so I started the kit today for this - I've done pretty much nothing but thought I'd share and update when I can (hopefully daily). So the box was very pretty for what it was, I like the artwork. The instructions (haven't photoed) are really handy too - separated into inside, wing assembly, fuselage, painting, decals. The first thing that happened? Well it's an oldish kit I think. Either way there was a small crack as part of the kit came of the sprue. Some left over green stuff from my Warhammer times (which I may get back into...*sigh*) came to the rescue. The inside is messy, but I'm not too fussed as it wont be visible at all. I used some Skull White to undercoat the inside of the cockpit and the pilots seats. They don't look great, but they'll be fine once some detail is added. And then I realized...I'm going to have to do some work - Green Stuff to the rescue again? Or anyone got a better idea?

  15. Hi there I wanted to try something a little different with the photos I took at Fairford. While on holiday, I started to have a play around with Windows Moviemaker and used it to create an animated slideshow of my favourite pictures. The finished film - complete with AC/DC soundtrack (switch on your PC speakers!) - can be viewed on YouTube. Click on the link below: Or search on YouTube for RIAT 2012 rocks to AC/DC. All aerial shots were taken with a Nikon F4 300mm lens. For the first time I managed to get some crossover shots of the Breitling display team and the Red Arrows. Cheers Richard C
