  1. I will do the new(ish) Revell 1/72 Ju-88A-4. It will be build almost out of the box, exept some etch seatbelts and other decals. The decals still needs to be purshased. I am thinking of a desert scheme. Pictures will follow later. Cheers,
  2. Good afternoon everyone Finally now finished the Revell Shackleton AEW2. She was a lovely kit, there is a couple of issues in regards to accuracy as it is a hybrid of a AEW 2 and MK 3, but ignoring those details I decided to build it oob, as it is. On comparing it to the Airfix kit, fit of the overall kit I found better, the surface detail is 100 times better than the airfix kit, The revell kit has some very think sprue gates connecting the parts, which does require some clean up, there are pros and cons for both, but overall they are both fantastic model kits. But I'll leave you with pics of the Revell one and then the 3 kits i've built. I hope you enjoy.
  3. Hawk T.1 for Revell Kit 1:72 Eduard The new Revell Hawk as reviewed here is a good kit in its own right, now Eduard have followed up with a PE update set. This arrives as one nickel fret and one brass fret. The frets provide details for The Ejection Seats (including belts), all instrument & side panels, Jet pipe, undercarriage doors, undercarriage bay parts, wing fences, smoke pipes for the Red Arrows, fuselage plates, and canopy fittings. Conclusion These parts should enhance an already good kit. Recommended. Review sample courtesy of
  4. Only taken a year but finally got around to photographing my recent builds. Most are run of the mill stuff that isn't worth posting but a few I quite like. These two were straight from the box builds though I elected to spray the tiger stripes rather that use the awful kit decals and the results came out quite well. The red on the other phantom was a citadel miniatures red as none of my military colors were bright enough. Any comments or suggestions welcome
  5. Airbus A320 Etihad 1:144 Revell The first of the successful narrow body range from Airbus, the A320 flew commercially for the first time in March 1998, having completed its maiden flight in February of the previous year. Designed to compete for a share of the short to medium range market which at the time, was dominated by Boeing and Douglas with their B737 and DC-9 respectively, a production run of fewer than 1000 aircraft was originally intended. However, the success of the design, and the introduction of the longer A321 and shorter A319 and A318 derivatives has seen the A320 family become the worlds fastest selling airliner. As of April 2016, Airbus has delivered nearly 7000 aircraft, with a further 974 firm orders making this the worlds best-selling, single-generation aircraft programme. The kit. The Revell kit has been around for a while now, and has been issued in many different airline liveries such as Lufthansa, Eidelweiss, Air Berlin, and Condor. This latest release offers the rather attractive Etihad livery that has been recently introduced. The box is in Revell's new 'black' style with a side view painting of an A320 climbing to altitude. The instructions have likewise been revised and are now in full colour on glossy paper. The plastic parts are the same as previously issued, and are now beginning to show traces of flash in some areas, but nothing too serious. The first of the two main sprues holds the fuselage halves and undercarriage components. The passenger cabin windows are moulded open, so you will need to decide whether to finish them with one of the liquid glazing products such as Micro Krystal Kleer, or fill them in and use decals. Glazing is provided for the cockpit windows, but without any framing on the decal sheet (apart from outlines for the two centre panes), or a 'solid' decal option. I always prefer to retain the clear option and mask it, so this is no problem. Others who like to use decals will need to take one from the spares box. The second sprue contains the flying surfaces and the CFM 56 engines, but the V2500 engine option on some previous releases have been deleted here. The trailing edge flaps on all the Revell A320's need a little modification to remove some of the smaller track fairings, and this is clearly pointed out in the instructions. Note also that the inboard flaps need the 'sub section' engraved oblong filling in. The little 'winglets' on the wingtips are somewhat undersized, but larger replacements are easily fabricated from plasticard if you desire. All my previous builds of this kit have them, and it only takes 15 minutes to make a pair. Decals. The decal sheet is probably why most modellers will want to obtain a copy of this kit. Designed by DACO it provides a wealth of stencil detail, wing walks, door outlines, engine and pylon details, as well as the Etihad livery. It is all beautifully printed in sharp register and with excellent colour matching. Being a DACO design they should fit perfectly as well, no small consideration when considering all the decals to go around the rear fuselage and tail. The fuselage colour is suggested as mix of Revell's own paint, 75% White 04, 20% Orange clear 730, and 5% Aluminium metallic 99. Several other Etihad airliners have been posted on this forum over the last few years, and other suggestions may be available with them if you search. (My own Boeing 777 was done with nail varnish applied by airbrush). Whichever method you use, it is probably wise to mix up a batch and keep it for re-coating and touch ups. Conclusion. It is nice to have this kit back in such an attractive livery. The new upgraded box and instructions are also very welcome, and much clearer to read than the old instructions. Many of us will have already built at least one of Revell's A319/320/321 kits, so know that it is a trouble free build. The real 'icing on the cake' here is the beautifully produced decal sheet, and should produce a stunning model. Recommended. [EDIT] Under construction now ! 6. Hi all, I've just recently finished a conversion of Revell's 1/35 Series III into a Fire Service Land Rover L4P (Lightweight, 4 wheel-drive, Pump) for a good friend of mine who has a small private collection of emergency vehicles. It isn't based on any particular vehicle, and research showed that they differed significantly from Brigade to Brigade so this is more of a generic representation of the type. This was my first ever attempt at any form of scratch building and I have to say, I loved it. A relatively simple conversion just requiring the cab roof to be modified from the kit parts, the rear stowage and equipment made from plasticard and the tilt frame from copper wire. The only aftermarket I used was the Airwaves 1/35 chequer plate for the non-slip panels and rear bed floor. There are a few inaccuracies such as the beacon looking far to big after I had fitted it and it also needs a ladder but my confidence in my skills fell a bit short there! Unless anyone knows of a 1/35 scale aluminium ladder? Here's the pics........
  7. Good Morning, just want show you my recently finished model. Revells F-15E Strike Eagle is the best F-15E Kit in 1/48 available at the best price. I added Quickboost Seats and scratched the seat rails. The rest is OOB. Painted with Revell Aqua. All the best Pete
  8. German Type IXc/40 U-Boat 1:72 Etch sets Having updated the Revell 1:72 Type IX U-Boat, Eduard have now turned their sights onto the Type IXc/40 with the release of three sets of etched brass, to update the conning tower and the hull. The hull sets in particular will require quite a bit of surgery to be carried out on the kit to allow the etched parts to fit, but with plenty of care and patience they will make quite a difference to the finished model. 53158 – Hull Set 1: Comes in a zip lock bag with one sheet of etched brass. This set contains a selection of replacement free flooding and venting areas. Rather than just scabbing the panels onto the kit, it’s be better to remove the areas, using the etched panels as a guide, thinning down the edges then fitting the panels from the outside. The set also includes a selection of deck vents, which once again will need the areas of the kit to be removed, plus some cleats, and tie downs to improve the decks look. 53159 – Hull Set 2: Also comes in a zip lock bag with one sheet of etched brass. The sheet contains a series of inner skin panels onto which the hull flood vents are attached; each vent has to be folded to shape before fitting. The kit holes need to be carefully cut out and the vents panels fitted from the inside of the hull parts. On the outside the etched grilles are attached giving a much better representations of the real thing. The set also include replacement parts for the bow torpedo tubes and the decks between them. The longitudinal bulkhead between the tube doors is also completely replaced and detailed with etched uprights. The inner and outer doors are also replaced and there is an option for open or closed doors. The kits air outlet vents also need to be opened up and covered with etched grilles and plates. The stern tube is similarly detailed, with a new door and many additional details. I can’t quite make out where parts 15 and 16, due to the scrappiness of the instructions, and not having the kit to hand, but they look like they go under the foredeck, near to where the deck has been cut away. 53160 Conning Tower: Although the easiest to use, this single sheet set definitely has the most parts, Once again contained in a large zip lock bag, the set is used to add detail, not only to the tower, but also the AA weapons. The twin 20mm guns receive new fittings for the mounts as well as the guns themselves, with new sights, supports, traversing wheels, brackets and spent casing bags. The 37mm mount receives a new splinter shield, and allthe fittings that are attached to it, plus the shield supports. There are also new foot rests, elevation and traversing wheels fro both seating positions, new cocking levers, gun muzzles, sights, brackets and panels. The decks of the tower are provided with new drain hole panels, the anti-slip bars around each gun position are replace, the kit parts having been removed first. The shelving/seating around the inside of the tower are replaced, as is the door covering the radar array, whilst the emergency lifebuoy containers are fitted with new handles and large wing nut clamps. The radar array is also replaced with an etch assembly. The set also includes the canvas dodgers, that are fitted to the lower parts of the guardrails, plus clamps and other fittings for the snorkel support arm and the associated pipework. Conclusion Whilst the Type IXc is an excellent kit there are some things that really can’t be moulded using standard techniques and it this is where the etched brass comes in. The finesse it provides to a finished model can really make it shine. These sets can, when used correctly do just that for the Type IXc, just be careful with the cutting out of the kit parts. Highly recommended. Review sample courtesy of
  9. Nerded out and built a Revell A319 kit I had lying around in a personalised livery (imaginary airline I had when I was a kid). Clearly I was a complex child. Anyway, here it is. A 'Lomasair' A319. still a bit scratchy here and there, but i'm learning. ...and here it is on the shelf next to my BA 319. See that here.
  10. Wtf? Two identical sprues? Very detailed panels, seats and cockpit area! Detailed exhaust and pipes! Seam Line Great decals Great panel lines Other...
  11. Finished this OOB except for decals and a scratch built antenna. Decals are from F-DCAL. Builds nicely with little fuss unless you are ham fisted painting it Special crumpled sky background for pictures Build thread here
  12. Hey guys! I'm starting my next project R.M.S Titanic by Revell in 1/1200 scale and I will post some pictures here during the progress. For starters:
  13. Hi folks! Here is my newly completed Revell Mustang, straight out the box. Brush painted with Humbrol acrylics. Another nice easy kit which was looking good till i added the cockpit transparency, which is a poor fit and has very faint framework. This made painting the frames time consuming. I'm not best pleased with that part of the build but felt its the best i could do at the time. Decals were good, especially the sharkmouth which went on without too much effort. Its a 112 Squadron machine based in Italy at the end of the war, and i opted to go for a dusty weathered finish using humbrol weathering powders. Hope you like, thanks for watching Cheers Greg.
  14. Amera's S131 Airfix D-Day Coastal Defence Fort base alongside their S226 Coastal Assault with S228 D-Day Bunker and the Airfix A05702 D-Day Coastal Defence Fort. There is a Heller Pak-40 in the bunker. I can't recall where I got the beach obstacles from, but I scratched the long hedgehogs. There are a few Revell and Matchbox German figures mixed in with Airfix German Infantry, Paratroops and Mountain Troops, and Airfix British Infantry and Commandos.
  15. The latest plastic model kit releases from Revell are due in this week. This release includes the long awaited 1/144 Airbus A320 Etihad Airways and 1/48 Stearman PT-17 Kaydet, as well as the 1/144 German LSM Eidesche Class. For full details, please see our newsletter.
  16. Hello all. Just like several others in this STGB I'll be building the Revell 1/72 Hunter FGA.9. The plan is to build two planes, one in the 1960s colours of the Royal Rhodesian Air Force (Green/Grey over HSS) and one in the early 1980s Zimbabwe AF colours. If things go really well, I might dig up my third copy of my kit from my secondary stash at my parents' home and build a 1970s bird as well (RhAF, Green/Earth over Earth). There have been a couple of sprue shots, but I don't think anyone has shown them unwrapped yet, so here you go. Those with an encyclopaedic knowledge of third-party decal offerings might recognise the Xtradecal International Hunters sheet, which will be providing the markings. The first painting has started
  17. Hi guys! I made a little plane called Boeing P-26A Peashooter by Revell. It's not top notch of course, because this are my first steps in scale modeling, but nonetheless here are the pictures. The last picture is photographed with a diorama, which is not yet entirely finished.
  18. This is my latest build. Revell 1:48 Eurofighter Typhoon single seat RAF 29Sqn Display Aircraft from the 2014 season. I have had this in my stash for several years and wanted to build it using the xtradecal Typhoon display decals to depict the 2014 display aircraft which I have always thought was stunning. I purchased the Olimp resin seamless air intake and exhaust can set so I could build a clean aircraft along with with the BigEd PE set. The build went relatively smoothly with the resin sets only needing some slight filling and sanding. I was impressed with the fit and detail of the it, only adding some scratch building in the wheel wells to add interest and depth. The Eduard set in the cockpit is a must as it really sets it alive and cannot be beaten. As usual I painted the aircraft using Vallejo Air colours finished off in a satin coat with a light wash and weathering as these aircraft are usually presented as pristine. I wanted to show the versatility of the aircraft and to do this I thought adding an array of ordnance would do it nicely. This particular aircraft would not have been operational in 2104, but would have continued to fly training sorties so to add some colour and interest I have loaded it with a variety of training ordnance. This is a sort after, discontinued kit and hopefully the re - issue in Sept will bring some more great examples of this single seat aircraft.

  20. As much as I enjoy watching other people work, particularly on Group Builds, I've never been able to get fully into the spirit of it (working and group builds before you ask!). However I made a commitment to this one so here I am, lets see if I can get something finished within the allotted timescale. I had agreed with Col that I could build my PJ Production F4 which I had started many years ago but never got past gluing the cockpit into one of the fuselage halves but there are some complications with this scheme that have made me think again. Firstly it's a resin kit which needs a little more patience and time to complete, obviously not good for someone working against the clock who takes a time to build anything anyway. Then there is the fact that the kit came with a chunk of wingtip missing which will need careful repairs so all that adds up to a refusal at the first fence. Instead I've dived deep into the stash and hauled out one of my Revell Hunters and some of the AM goodies hidden within (it was like Christmas all over again as I discovered things long since forgotten buried in there, a bit like some old Viking hoard buried in the garden). Yes, I'm rambling on a bit, it's all part of the procrastination technique that I use to put off having to actually do anything and has served me well all these years. With no further ado here's the first photo and then maybe the plan. Obviously that's only part of the proposed stash as I haven't taken photos of the Decal sheets or reference books yet but the basic plan maybe is as follows: Option one, build out of the box and paint up as a 43 Sqn F6 from RAF Leuchars in 1959, the most obvious and straight forward option for actually getting something finish. Option two, build it using one of the conversion sets I have and back date it to an F4 of either 222 Sqn or 43 Sqn RAF Leuchars, a bit more involved but doable. Option three, do the same as Option two but call it an F1 of 43 or 222 Sqn from RAF Leuchars. So whatever happens at least we can say it will be a Hunter from Fife. I was going to say something stupid like if I finish this one with time to spare then maybe I can have a go at the PJ Production Hunter after, nah that WAS stupid! I promise to make a start today as Col will be checking up on me tonight at the Club meeting so I'd better do something or else . Duncan B
  21. Good afternoon, as mentionned in the chat, wife and kid are outside, so I will try to do a quick build on the Revell Hunter. The start, at 7:30LT After one hour, the seat, tanks and wings were glued, some recesses filled. The first colour, black for the cockpit area. Pic is overexposed to show the details. After 3.5 hours, workbench looks like this. Wings needed much time and filler, but it may have been my mistake. First round of silver (tamiya flat alu) Dashboard ready for installation. Just some tire black for the main part, some drybrushing and gloss black for the dials. Cockpit ready for the fuselage. Fuselage halves glued together. Nose, gun bay and exhaust were added later. The intakes are a bit tricky, as it's best to paint them beforehand. So, again, a short burst of alu, one side green, the other grey. Such parts need time, so I will let dry the glue overnight. Time so far: 10 hrs total, including some breaks, lunch and taking care of the flat. Some 8 hours net building time. Next step is putting the parts together, preshading, colours and then off we go. Hope I'm finished by this weekend! Alex
  22. Hello fellow modelers I would like to introduce my latest finished model. It is an F-15E from Revell 1/48. Kit I added resin from the nozzle Aires and RBF from Eduard. Perhaps you will like it
  23. Afternoon chaps, Heres my take on Revell's excellent new tool Fw 190 F-8, built OOB with kit decals and painted with Xtracrylix, it goes together brilliantly, detail is nothing short of spectacular for a kit that cost me £20 and most importantly, it looks like an Fw 190 Might have to get another one of these and do a different scheme...
  24. Hi everyone My Spitfire build is coming to an end so its time to think about my next project. I do have a Hurricane,Typhoon and Jet Provost to finish but I've wanted to build a Halifax for a long time now so I thought sod it, lets go for it! I've chosen the Revell offering as my starting point, I know it has its issues (hence the correction set from AML) but hopefully I should be able to produce a decent model to add to my small collection. Here's an overall shot of the Kit and after market... Thanks for looking and see you soon. Iain
  25. Hey, I'm planning on building a Tornado GR.4 from the latest Revell 1/48 kit depicting ZD714. The empty fuselage pylons kind of bother me so I planned to place some Eduard Storm Shadows down there and also replace the AIM-9s from the box with their Eduard resin counterparts. The question is: Would these weapons be carried at all by this machine? From the images I've been able to find the Storm Shadows should be OK but I'm not sure about the AIM-9s. If these would be carried are Eduard's AIM-9M/L the correct version? Also, is there any resin replacement for the GR.4 cockpit? I've been able to find NeOmega's IDS cockpit but this is not the correct one here.... right? Many thanks in advance! Cristian
