  1. Revell Ar-234 1/48. It's unfinished, sorry.
  2. Time to post my new project. I have build this kit a few years ago but I since it was one of my first models I did make a few mistakes while building it. The bumper broke off a few times, paint snapped off, glue on the clearcoat... The main reason why I always fixed it up was because I painted the stripes myself. Here it is newly build: The new kit: unboxing: https://www.facebook.com/mgscalemodels/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1174778152583795 All the body parts: Painted these Zero Paints Jet Black And this is now the 7th Mustang I build I pretty much know this kit inside out. And I also mannaged to paint the primer, first and second colours in 1 airbrush session. Also knowing this kit the assembly went really fast. I did have some problems with the body. Had to sand away the bad spots and give it a new coat of Jet Black. First I just used Gloss black, but that paint was to thick. Had to throw it out... Didn't take any picture's of how bad it was, but it was just like my GT500... But now it's ready for the gold decals. Going to use the decals this time. Hope to have the decals and clear on tomorrow, but first I need to clean out my spray booth. Thanks for watching! Mike
  3. As much as I enjoy watching other people work, particularly on Group Builds, I've never been able to get fully into the spirit of it (working and group builds before you ask!). However I made a commitment to this one so here I am, lets see if I can get something finished within the allotted timescale. I had agreed with Col that I could build my PJ Production F4 which I had started many years ago but never got past gluing the cockpit into one of the fuselage halves but there are some complications with this scheme that have made me think again. Firstly it's a resin kit which needs a little more patience and time to complete, obviously not good for someone working against the clock who takes a time to build anything anyway. Then there is the fact that the kit came with a chunk of wingtip missing which will need careful repairs so all that adds up to a refusal at the first fence. Instead I've dived deep into the stash and hauled out one of my Revell Hunters and some of the AM goodies hidden within (it was like Christmas all over again as I discovered things long since forgotten buried in there, a bit like some old Viking hoard buried in the garden). Yes, I'm rambling on a bit, it's all part of the procrastination technique that I use to put off having to actually do anything and has served me well all these years. With no further ado here's the first photo and then maybe the plan. Obviously that's only part of the proposed stash as I haven't taken photos of the Decal sheets or reference books yet but the basic plan maybe is as follows: Option one, build out of the box and paint up as a 43 Sqn F6 from RAF Leuchars in 1959, the most obvious and straight forward option for actually getting something finish. Option two, build it using one of the conversion sets I have and back date it to an F4 of either 222 Sqn or 43 Sqn RAF Leuchars, a bit more involved but doable. Option three, do the same as Option two but call it an F1 of 43 or 222 Sqn from RAF Leuchars. So whatever happens at least we can say it will be a Hunter from Fife. I was going to say something stupid like if I finish this one with time to spare then maybe I can have a go at the PJ Production Hunter after, nah that WAS stupid! I promise to make a start today as Col will be checking up on me tonight at the Club meeting so I'd better do something or else . Duncan B
  4. After a couple of months away from the workbench, I decided I wanted to do something with no camouflage, no canopy & no masking... A little rummage in the stash & I found just the thing - the Revell packaged 1/39 Wright Flyer. Originally produced by Monogram in 1958, I was actually pleasantly surprised with the quality of this kit. The wings were airbrushed with vallejo model air aged white, the wood is Revell wood brown - no clever techniques attempted, just flat colour. The rigging was done using ez-line, there is cotton included with the kit, but I decided ez-line would be easier & look better. If you've never read about how these guys put this thing together, trawl the web & have a read. They created their own wind tunnel, built their own engine (the contacts are inside the cylinders!) and designed the propellers, using a second home-made wind tunnel, achieving 80% efficiency from them. Then there's the story of their battle with the Smithsonian institute ..... 5. Dear Fellow Modellers, Finally I'm starting my thread on this much anticipated GB. I'm building Revell's 1/72 A-4 version and will be using Quickboost's resin exhausts and Eduard's BIGED PE and mask set. I'll be building scheme A, as shown in the box, for an aircraft based in Sicily, Italy, June 1941: As usual, here are pictures of the sprues. The clear parts are good, very transparent, without defects: The plastic is beautifully detailed, neither too soft nor too hard: This is the decal sheet, which looks good: I'll have to use swastikas from an xtradecal sheet. There's a total of 125 parts. But I just can't build anything out of the box, so here are the resin exhausts: The following are the several PE sets that come in the BIGED set. The interior PE parts (2 frets): The exterior PE set: The surface panels set: And the canopy masks, which are a must for these German bombers: Building starts with the cockpit. This is the first part: The moulded detail was removed, to be latter replaced by PE: The second part: The levers on the left hand side were also removed, as they will be replaced by metal levers: The two parts were glued together. Fit is very good: These two parts, complete the cockpit base. The level of detail out of the box is superb: The cockpit base was assembled: The control column was also removed from the sprue: It will be glued in place after painting. Now starts the PE odyssey. First, I assembled the levers. This metal part, already bent, will hold one of them: Here are the levers, ready for installation: The levers were glued in place of the plastic ones that had been removed: The next step is building the pedals, their mechanisms and supporting beams: However, all plastic in this step will be replaced by PE, as shown in the PE instructions: I started with the supporting beams. Here we can see one ready and the other just removed from the fret: The same here for the mechanisms: These parts were glued together: For comparison, here are the replaced plastic parts: The enhanced level of detail provided by the PE parts is readily apparent. Here we can see the pedals: one ready, the other just out of the fret: For comparison, here is a plastic pedal and a PE pedal, side by side: I think the increased effort of preparing and assembling the PE parts is fully compensated by the enhanced realism achieved. Moving on to the cockpit walls, here is the port wall: Some detail was removed, to be latter replaced by pre-painted PE, and the unpainted PE detail was glued in place: The starboard side wall. The moulded detail is superb: but some must be removed: I'll post more progress tomorrow, as this post is quite big already. Thanks for looking. Cheers Jaime
  6. Some time ago I bought a unboxed Rafale from Ebay for a pittance, not sure if it ever had any decals or I lost 'em. But to save wasting a kit I ended up buying some after market decals from Syhart(via Hannants). This is probably false economy as the decals cost about 3 times what I paid for kit , but anyway .......... The kits not bad actually with plenty of detail and goes together well. Decals sre superb and you could actualy build three examples from the decals supplied..........obviously I went for the one with the flashy tailfin(although you only get 2000ltr tanks with the kit which were not used on this example at Tigermeet, so some slight artistic licence there). Some of the stencils are like dust specks in this scale and a bit superfluous. Didn't bother with the missiles(as yet) Colour is a 50:50 mix of Vallejo MA 114 and 46, with a coating of Vallejo satin varnish(a bit on the glossy side I reckon) wash was lamp black oil paint and white spirit. Now all I need is someone to say "Is it 1/32" LOL All positive critique welcome Cheers, Saddler
  7. This is my Revell Hurricane in 1/72, this one being in No. 336 (Greek) Squadron, Desert air force, RAF, LG 8 Mersa Matruh, Egypt, 1944. The kit is good, with great surface detail and nice cockpit. Fit of parts is average, with the panel on the bottom of the fuselage and sand filter being the worst. Other than that, it's a great little kit. It was airbrushed with tamiya acrylics, weathered with tamiya acrylics and humbrol enamels. (Ask if you want to know details) To some it may be over-weathered, but I'm not too fussy I would hav liked to make it more dusty, but I'll live with it for now You'll probably notice that one of the cannon flash marks is a bit crooked, and the canopy frames may be in the wrong place, but this is my first time ever (I know ) masking a canopy!!! Enough of my yapping, on with the pictures! Hope you like it (Sorry about the pictures... it was cloudy for once!! But WOOHOOO! [You will by now know I'm not a Brit, but I am a modeller..... ]) Oh yeah... base was wood, ground cover was sand, water, PVA glue, and Humbrol 93 acrylic paint.... Thanks for looking!!
  8. I will do the new(ish) Revell 1/72 Ju-88A-4. It will be build almost out of the box, exept some etch seatbelts and other decals. The decals still needs to be purshased. I am thinking of a desert scheme. Pictures will follow later. Cheers,
  9. Hi All, This will be my first WIP and just my second build after circa 30 years of a layoff from kit building. After such a long break I reckoned I'd be pretty much be starting from scratch again so picked up a few of Revells' old Bi-Plane kits as practice pieces before getting stuck into some of the nicer or more complex kits that are on my wish list. I also reckoned that I could do with some inspiration and guidance along the way which led me to lurking here before eventually joining the forum and getting involved. My first attempt was an Airfix Vampire which I ended up painting twice and still not being happy with the end result but it was an enjoyable experience and I learned a lot. It ended up like this... Vampire T11 B by Martin Fay, on Flickr Vampire T11 by Martin Fay, on Flickr I've got a pretty thick skin so constructive criticism and advice along the way is both welcome and appreciated.

  11. So, here is another one of my finished builds. The Sd.Kfz. 7 was a half-track artillery tratcor used by nazi germany in WW2. From 1934-1944 more than 12.000 were build. It was used as tractor for the 8.8 cm Flak or 15 cm sFH 18 howitzer; sometimes it was also used as recovery vehicle. The Flak 37 was a german 88 mm AA-gun build from 1936-1945 it wasn't only used as AA-gun but also as Anti-Tank gun, in which role it was also adapted as the main weapon of the tiger I, tiger II and Jagdpanther tanks. It was used by many countries e.g. nazi-Germany, Finland or Spain. Source: resumed from Wikpedia I build the 1/72 Revell kit including the Sd.Kfz. 7, the Flak 36/37 and its trailer(s). The fit was pretty good and Revells new track system worked out pretty well as the tracks were pretty thin. It was painted with Revell colors and weathered with dust made from pastel chalks. I build it with one ammo storage compartment open and the white "shimmer" is supposed to simulate a "light" snowfall (what do you think about it?) So, here are the pics: IMG_2129 by nivelnnamkcurts, auf Flickr IMG_2130 by nivelnnamkcurts, auf Flickr IMG_2131 by nivelnnamkcurts, auf Flickr IMG_2132 by nivelnnamkcurts, auf Flickr IMG_2133 by nivelnnamkcurts, auf Flickr IMG_2134 by nivelnnamkcurts, auf Flickr IMG_2136 by nivelnnamkcurts, auf Flickr IMG_2137 by nivelnnamkcurts, auf Flickr IMG_2138 by nivelnnamkcurts, auf Flickr IMG_2139 by nivelnnamkcurts, auf Flickr IMG_2140 by nivelnnamkcurts, auf Flickr The obligatory comparsion to an 1€ coin and an 1/72 esci figure: IMG_2142 by nivelnnamkcurts, auf Flickr (all pics were taken with my phone as my camera has some focus problems at the moment ; thi is why they're so grainy ) I hope you like it Comments and critics are welcome, Regards Levin
  12. Here is my build of Revells 1/72 Challenger 1. The fit of the kit was pretty good except I messed up a bit with the tracks, but nothing major. I built it OOB except I thougt it would look good if I cut out the turret baskets and put netting in it, which turned out -well- bad so i left it after the first one and glued the netting just onto the basket. I also filled the baskets with stowage made out of tissues and white glue as i added a thread to the winch(?) at the rear and I also made the manlet of the barrel out of tissue. 13. The Junkers F13 was based on the experiences of the Junkers J12. The outside appearance of both aircraft is very similar, but the F 13 or J 13, as it was called during its development, got a larger fuselage and a complete new wing design. Instead of the three passengers of the J12 design, the J13 was able to accommodate up to 4 passengers plus two pilots. Between January 1919 and June 1919 about 9000 developmental hours were invested into the project. On June 25, 1919 Junkers pilot Emil Monz flew the first F 13. The first F13 was s/n 533 and it was named "Annelise" after Hugo Junkers daughter Annelise Junkers. A second aircraft (s/n 531) became available three weeks later and was used for type certification in July 1919. The F 13 design of Reuter was fully satisfying the demands. It became the world's first all metal airliner and it seems to be the first aircraft, which was fully designed as a passenger aircraft. About the aircraft modeled: In 1924 Junkers sent two F 13 W floatplanes, D 217 (Flamingo, s/n 637) and D218 (Kauz, s/n 638) on a South America Sales Tour. D 217 crashed during this tour, killing a son of Hugo Junkers. Crew was performing some flights in South America to promote the sale of the Junkers F.13 to local operators. Aircraft left Albina Airport, in Suriname, bound to Macapá, in Brazil. Just after passing the border between French Guyana and Brazil, crew encountered very bad weather conditions and elected to make an emergency landing on the Oyapock River, off Oiapoque, State of Amapá. In unknown circumstances, aircraft crashed into the river and was damaged beyond repair. While the pilot Drewsky was injured, the mechanic Thill, Hugo Junkers son was killed. I memory of Thill, I have decided to build D 217 Cheers Pat
  14. First ever Group Build entry so be gentle on me! Took advantage of this kit being £6 on Amazon, the box shows why it's so cheap Current update on build: First time I've built a conventional airliner so this should hopefully be easy, all out of the box with BA decals too
  15. Hi all, I finished this last week but in the mad rush before Telford I didn't have the time to take and post pictures. Also, my work in progress thread starved off a bit for the same reasons. But I had a day off today and with the nice sunshine I took the opportunity for a photo session. Just to recap, this is the Revell 1:48 kit and despite being the best Strike Eagle kit in 1:48, it's still lacking in many areas and has lots of simplifications that needed addressing to bring it to my liking. I removed the main wheel wells and scratch built new ones, including the forward part where the wheel itself goes. The main landing gear struts, actuators and linkage were heavily modified or scratched. The nose wheel bay was detailed as was the nose wheel strut (complete with a new, longer, oleo). The cockpit was detailed with scratched throttles and oxygen hoses, Quickboost seats, iridescent film for the CRTs and the HUD, Eduard PE and other bits and bobs. I used Aires exhaust nozzles and Royale Resin wheels. The vertical stabs got the stiffener plates and rudder bulge, built up with layers of Mr Surfacer and detailed with Archer raised rivets. The antennae/sensors at the top are from an Academy kit as are the three main pylons and LAU 128 launchers (lengthened by a couple of mm though). The antennae under the nose a scratched, as is the GPS receiver. A lot of work went into getting the intakes right - as per the kit they're not fully up as for a parked F-15 and have awful seams in all the wrong places. The engine faces also got additional detail. I used my own (Hypersonic) jet fuel starter exhaust and decals. The rear area around the engines was treated as well to give an impression of thin skin, not chunky plastic. The AIM-120 is Eduard Brassin, the AIM-9L is from the Academy kit (modified for a training missile) and the ACMI pod is scratch built. There might be more, but I don't remember it now... Painting was done by a standard enamel coat, lightened in places. I then used both the salt and the hairspray technique in conjunction with acrylic paints to achieve the worn, dirty/grubby effect. I have to say that I really don't like working with acrylic paint and haven't become a friend this time either, but it's easier to use with those techniques. Subsequent weathering was achieved with oil paints and AK interactive enamels. Btw, I scored a Bronze with it in Telford, and I'm quite proud of it, in particular as the other entries were stunning and I know I've bodged a few things here and there. Here are the pics: Thanks a lot for your time! Jeffrey
  16. Here we go again with an Italia! Hope this one goes better then the last 458. The box: Instructions: Parts: Going for some Novitec Rosso wheels by HobbyDesign. That kit does not come with tyres... Bought and 'ugly' Aoshime wheel set and used those tyres. Much Cheaper then buying tyres from HobbyDesign. Quick setup: And started with gettingthe parts ready for primer and markingthe mould lines. Going to paint this one Tour de France Blue by Zero Paints. This build wont go fast, working on it in the evenings when I get home from working in my appartment. Thanks for watching! Mike
  17. Hi folks, I've been looking at the Revell F16 Mlu Dutch solo display kit and have read that the pearlescent orange paint can be sourced directly from the decal manufacturer, Syhart. But, no suprises, it's not in stock on their own website or related suppliers with no indication of when it may return. So, can anyone suggest a good alternative, other than mixing the colours as recommended by Revell. Does anyone know the paint colour reference so I could get some mixed or have any other ideas of creating the colour accurately, remembering its a pearlescent finish? I've noticed that on similar issues on Britmodeller, some people have suggested a company called Hiroboy, does anyone have any experiences with these guys when searching for one-off mixes? Cheers - Bod
  18. this is my third model still alot to learn, great kit but a few things i should of been more considerate of in the build over all im happy with the overall outcome used hobby design etching parts, scale production carbon fibre, zero paints and vellejo for some detail parts. next build 918
  19. Hi folks,a few shots of Revell's re-boxed ICM Chaika operated by the Soviet Baltic fleet summer 1942.
  20. Hi folk's,well I said I fancied an aircraft build and here it is nice to be back in 72 scale for my first Russian produced aircraft,I was in the shop for paint had my usual look on the shelf and there it was, only £3:49 after discount I thought some old dodgy east European manufacturer's offering if it was no good I could keep quiet about it and look for another subject but what a shock on opening the box and I now know it's an ICM tooling!Heres the new style Revell box. and the comprehensive and beautifully molded kit. And the decals look very good to. So an interesting subject of an aircraft which tried to stem the tide of German air power at the begining of the Great Patriotic War.
  21. Hi Fellow Modellers, Not long since my last RFI but this was half done anyway, had to wait for a part from Revell(split in main canopy), fair play they sent one no problem but had to wait 6 weeks. Top marks to Revell for customer service though, not many firms do this now. Back to the model, bit of a long story this.......................This was purchased for a song on Ebay many months ago so around May this year started on it, I was going to build it with the cowling open to reveal the engine, guns etc. Imagine my surprise when I found that the engine was missing from the sprue, along with a few other parts I assume the ebayer who sold it(no record of who) must have re-sealed the bag after filching the bits for another project. Cowling closed then. Which was abit of a sod as it engine bits are integral with the mounting of the guns and the nose area !! But I got by sort of. Then found the split in the canopy Paints are Tamiya XF-23 light blue for the U/s and Tamiya XF-59 desert yellow for topsides, some panels were lightened with Vallejo MA mixes. Vallejo MA white and Tamiya yellow (Vallejo MA yellow just does not work) . Vallejo MC 886 for the RLM02 Not my best effort but it gave me so much grief I was glad to finish it. I believe it's the old ICM mold. PS: Note to self: I must find out how to do wing nav lights, not excusable in this scale As usual all constructive criticism and hints welcome !!
  22. Morning all! I've always rather liked the Gulf War Tornado ZA465- otherwise known as Foxy Killer and so it would have been absurd if I was to pass up the opportunity to model this fabulous example of British aviation. Kit: Revell 1:72 Tornado Gr.1 (From my LMS- Mike's Models) Extras: Print Scale- Tornado Gr.1 Gulf War nose art (From Hannants) -Scratchbuilt RBF tags made from paper and FOD covers made from tissue paper. Paints Used: Vallejo: Black, White, Medium Olive, Barley Grey, Red. The "Desert Pink" colour was created from a variety of Vallejo paints mixed together. AK Interactive Dust Wash used for weathering the wheels *Note: I can't guarantee that this model is entirely accurate: Thanks for having a look! Kind regards, Sam
  23. Ok guys, I will try something new here. Just like Mottlemaster I will try to do two builds in this GB. My second choice is the 1/48 Revell Ju-88C-6 nightfighter converted to the day fighter. I am planning to do a Gulf of Biscaye fighter from KG40. The decals are from Third group. It will be build almost straight out of the box. Here are some pictures of the kit. And this is the version I am planning to do.(F8+RY) That is it for now. Cheers,
  24. Started this one last week. The Revell Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. Something different then a Ferrari or a muscle car! It's going to be a pearl white car. I was going to use HobbyDesign SMG wheels, but the kit wheels look better with different tyres. The box and the wheels: Instructions, decals and body: All the parts: Quick setup of the car: Primed all the parts: And it will be a pearl white SLS AMG. So I painted the body parts with 1 grey coat of primer and 2 white coats. Got some bad experience with using white primer only... Tomorrow I'll try to put some colour on it! Thanks for watching! Mike
  25. Hello all, just started my new projekt, Revells Eurofighter Typhoon Twinseater. I started with the seats. I wanted to add some more details and scratched the harness. You can find more pictures in my blog: http://petesmancave.blogspot.de/ Pete
