  1. I am going to attempt to build this warps, warts and inacccuracies aside I hope it at least builds up looking like a Tomcat. I want an OOB build but I may have to use aftermarket decals. The kit decals look yellowed and real shiney, almost like "stickers" they are so shiny. I may try to find Grim Reapers in low vis or TPS scheme. I am also not going in any order, I follow the instructions but only as a general guide.---John tomcat 1 by jvandeu53, on Flickr tomcat 2 by jvandeu53, on Flickr
  2. Any comments welcome, it's the only way to improve ...
  3. Hi all! I completed the Revell Snowspeeder - It went together pretty well but I messed up in a few places, hopefully the mistakes aren't too noticeable . . . Let me know what you think
  4. This is the Revell 737-800 with modified engines and added winglets. The Jet2 Holidays decals are by @RICHW I flew on this to and from Majorca which was the first time with Jet2. Steve
  5. Warrior MCV Add-on Armour 1:72 Revell The Warrior Mechanised Combat Vehicle is the main infantry fighting vehicle used by the British Army. The most common version employed by the Army is the Infantry Section Vehicle, or ISV. The ISV is capable of carrying 7 infantry soldiers as well as three crew. Other versions include command vehicles and combat repair and recovery vehicles. The Warrior is armed with the fearsome automatic 30mm RARDEN cannon, a 7.62 mm coaxial chain gun and defensive grenade launchers. Warriors have seen service in both gulf wars, as well as in Bosnia and Afghanistan. Inside the compact end-opening box are three sprues of beige plastic which hold a total of 136 parts. This is not a brand new kit – the mouldings actually date back to 2001. Nevertheless, the sprues are well laid out and the mouldings are free from flash. Surface detail is clean and crisp, and first impressions are very favourable. Assembly begins with the lower hull, wheels and tracks. The suspension and axles are moulded in place, which is perfectly acceptable for a 1:72 scale model. In any case, they are nicely detailed. With a little care, making sure all the wheels touch the ground will be a straightforward matter. The wheels are moulded in two halves, which will result in a nicely detailed model, although it does mean that painting the rubber tyres will take some time! Injection moulded link and length tracks are provided. The tracks are well detailed and should be straightforward to fit. The tracks on a Warrior are usually pretty taut too, so no need to worry about recreating any sagging effects on the upper run of tracks. Construction of the rest of the lower hull is fairly straightforward. The large rear door for the infantry compartment and the drivers hatch are moulded in place, but the protective cages for the headlights are very nicely represented, as are the rear-view mirrors. Although most of the pioneer tools are moulded in place on the hull, one of the shovels is provided as a separate item. Details like these will add an extra touch of finesse to the finished model. The turret is nicely recreated. Both hatches have been left open and separate hatch doors are provided, with surface details moulded on both sides. As is usually the case with this kind of kit, the gun is fully poseable. The RARDEN cannon itself is quite nice, which is just as well as I’m not aware of any aftermarket alternative. One slight fly in the ointment is that the stowage bins are provided as solid plastic pieces, with the impression of mesh moulded onto the surfaces. Those particularly keen on replicating the real thing will need to get hold of some plastic strip and fine mesh to replicate these parts. The add-on armour is of the applique variety often seen applied to Warriors on operation, and includes side armour as well as armour for the glacis plate. Two different options are provides for on the decal sheet. The first is for a SFOR Warrior from Bosnia-Herzegowina, finished in the familiar green and black camouflage scheme found on British AFVs. The second is finished in the white UN scheme and is from the United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR) based in Bosnia-Herzegowina in 1994. The decal sheet is small but nicely printed. Conclusion This was a great kit when it was first released, and nothing much has changed since. A couple more decal options would have been nice, particularly a gulf war scheme or two, but overall this should be a nice kit to build. Highly recommended. Revell model kits are available from all good toy and model retailers. For further information visit or
  6. Most recent build completed. Revell Crusader, 1/12 scale 'Amercan Chopper' style bike. Fun build, a few scratch parts like the HT leads and Brake lines, Paint is Humbrol 51, Sunset Red though over white primer it's more hot pink but I like, it, very hot rod and bright and noticeable. 7. Hi Folks, as promised in my introduction in the New Members section here is my build progress on the Revell 1:400 Titanic. The kit is this one: Comes with some nice extras such as postcards, photos as well as some basic paints and glue. When I first inspected the kit three years ago I noticed a large gap at the stern section. For whatever reason it had shrunk to just a couple of mm after a few years on top of a wardrobe and didn't present much of a hassle when gluing together. First things first, the hull (In black plastic, everything else white) and the stand where glued together and details such as the propellers, rudder and anchors were added: Stern by MikeGBlues, on Flickr Stern by MikeGBlues, on Flickr Stern by MikeGBlues, on Flickr Although not visible in any of my photos, I added some sprue to strengthen the inside of the hull. Probably not needed but......
  8. Revells 1/72 mig 21 f13. my brother got my this for my birthday, cause i like migs with red stars!!! i have only one. painted with my normal mix of tamiya and valljo paints. used eduard zoom for the cockpit. decals are begemot, the 2 options in the kit where plain silver and boring. Used mig ammo 'lucky' gloss varnish for the first time, i was unlucky, didn't airbrush well, i had to strip it and use games workshop gloss instead!. thanks for looking.
  9. Hello all! Here is my latest completed model, the Revell (ex-ICM) Bf109F-4/z in the markings of Hptm Kurt Brandle, 5/JG53 based in Sicily during early 1942. I can't deny this is a challenging kit with regards to the fit of the nose, but thanks to a build report I saw on the internet I managed to get it to fit OK. The colour scheme was based on a number of profiles and an old FSM article from a few years back so I have no idea how accurate it is. The prop is the skinnier F-2 version from the Eduard kit, I figured the wrong prop looked better than the abomination supplied by ICM! Head armour from a Hasegawa kit as I lost the original...and the radio mast is a cut-down Spitfire one from the spares box, same reason!!! Paints were by a mixture of Mr Hobby, Vallejo and Xtracrylix, decals were from the spares box. Hope you like it! cheers, Chris
  10. Not one of my best but not too shabby. The Revell kit straight from the box, painted with Tamiya aerosol 'metallic orange' which is a shoe-in for GM's Sunset Orange. After the paint I airbrushed three coats of Tamiya X22 'clear' then polished it all with Turtle Wax. Nice easy build and looks really nice on the shelf. Next car build is already on the bench - another NASCAR - not far behind are a couple of Tamiya GT types. As ever all questions, comments and criticism are welcome. Ian.
  11. Roland C.II 1:48 Revell After initially building Albatros two seaters under licence, the Roland company began to look at producing an aircraft of their own design. A lot of effort went in to creating as smooth and low drag a shape as possible, eliminating the cabane struts by mounting the top wing directly on to the top of the fuselage. The fuselage itself was an innovative monocoque construction of layers of thin plywood strips laid over a mould in a criss-cross pattern. Two halves were made (just like a kit!) and joined together around an interior framework. The join line was covered with tape and the whole unit covered with doped on fabric, creating a fuselage with an excellent strength to weight ratio. Nicknamed 'Walfisch' (Whale) the C.II proved to be significantly faster than most other two seaters, and the majority of single seat fighters. View above and behind was excellent, but downward was poor due to the positioning of the pilot high up near the wings, and made the aircraft difficult to land. The tail assembly also suffered from some lack of airflow due to the blanking effect of the fuselage. However, as long as it held on to it's speed advantage it was able to carry out its reconnaissance tasks in relative safety. The C.II and later C.IIa served from the spring of 1916 until mid 1917, latterly in an escort role or employed on troop support/ground attack. Once removed from front line service most Rolands were only to be found in use with training units. The Kit This is a re-boxing by Revell of the Eduard kit. The packaging would indicate the plastic has come direct from Eduard. The Eduard kit was released in 2000 and re-released at regular intervals upto its last release in 2012. There are four main sprues of plastic and a small clear sprue. Construction starts inside the main fuselage with the main glazing being put in place in each fuselage half, followed by some internal fittings including the spare magazines for the rear gunner. This is followed by the gunners compartment being assembled and installed. Next up the pilots compartments is built up and installed. Engine bearers are then installed in front of the pilots area in preparation for the engine. The engine is the next part to be built up and installed. The engine is a multi-part affair including separate exhausts. Due to the construction of the Roland not much of this will be visible once the next step of closing the main fuselage halves is complete. After this is done the scarf ring for the gunner is added along with a side mounted radiator for the engine. Construction then moves onto the wings. Unlike most bi-plane models the lower wing is one part which attaches under the main fuselage, and the top wings are split left/right and attach to each side of the fuselage. One large aerodynamic interplane strut holds the wings apart near the tips. Following the adding of the wings the tail planes and rudder are attached. Control cable attachment points are provided for the rudder, and wing ailerons. To finish off the main undercarriage and tail skid are built up and added to the main fuselage. The main fixed forward firing gun is added to the top of the wing, and the rear gun is also added. The main exhaust is added to the engine and lastly the propeller and hub are added to the front of the aircraft. It is worth a mention that the instructions are the new revel type of 3D CAD renders, and while the include a rigging diagram it is not as clear as the old 3 view drawings. Decals Decals options come for two aircraft. The decals are printed in Italy and are good quality, glossy, with minimal carrier film and should pose no problems. The options are; Western Front Late 1916 3 colour camo (as per the box art) Western Front, Autumn 1916, all over grey Conclusion Price is not normally something mentioned in reviews as it is dependent upon the reader's location and local distribution. However in the UK the Eduard boxing of the kit (albeit in the weekend format with one decal option) is available at a lower price point. If you are looking for more variety in decal options however, then this boxing may well hit the sweet spot, especially when the discounters have got their teeth into it. Revell model kits are available from all good toy and model retailers. For further information visit
  12. Hello all, As I was involved in the last F-15 STGB (wow has it really been 4 years?!), I thought I would join in with this one. I have been in bit of a rut recently with my model building, I've still got an Bear, Typhoon and Horsa to finish yet. But, after seeing the builds started by parip and azureglo, I have been inspired to give these a go. I'm not 100% sure on what scheme I will be going for yet... I have a few to choose from. I think I had the aggressor scheme for the last STGB?... I also have these... The kits I shall be using... The two top kits are from LS and are F-15A models, the bottom left is the wonderful Revell F-15E and I have about 12 of them (seriously) and the bottom right is the Dragon/DML version, I have about 3 of them. The resin goodies you can see in the top middle are two F-15A cockpit sets with an F-15E cockpit set and two exhaust can sets from RetroWings. I was going to order more, but the website will not let me order anything. I have sent in a question asking why but not had any responses yet. I also have the Res-IM resin wheel replacements and Brengun vacform canopy as well as the Shelf Oddity PE set for the F-15. Going all in on this one, however I am not going to guarantee that I will get any done. I am planning to make an F-15B ACTIVE alongside these ones, but this is one from a computer game thus not allowed to be included in the rules of the GB. However, I will include the build of that as well if anyone is interested and I am allowed, seeing as it isn't the main build. Picture below... The fuel tank will need to be replaced with a gun pod, like the F-4 carried on the centre line station which I have in an Arii weapon set (I have a lot of stuff in 1/144). Now sure on what decals/version I will build first however. I am tempted by the Digi-camo, 23 Sqn and the White Dragon set. Any advancements? I'll probably be starting at the weekend as I await bits to turn up. Kind Regards, Dazz
  13. X-34 Landspeeder Revell 1/14 (approx) OK, well, I'm just going to post this for now, but it will only be done in dribs and drabs as, of course, I've got an X-Wing, amongst other things, to finish. It's one of Revell's, shall we say, 'lesser quality' Star Wars releases but, if you look beyond the pre-painting of the parts, and the snap-fix nature (far removed from Bandai's idea of snap-fix), it's a reasonable kit Some of that masterful pre-painting, clearly done by a student of Da Vinci, if not by the artisan himself. Only the very best are permitted to work in Revell's paint department And then we have these two specimens. The box doesn't state a scale, but the speeder come out at roughly 1/14. This pair though are more in the 1/25-1/26 area. Needless to say, I won't be using them that won't be a problem though, as I'm not intending to do this as Luke's speeder. That will also give me some licence to change things, add a few details, and generally hack it about. I've no real idea what I'm going to do with it yet. It'll just evolve as I'm doing it. I'll be swinging back over to the X-Wing now but, just to show that I have actually done something other than take photos of the parts, I've started on a few mods to the cockpit. The cutouts for the footwell are a little on the small side. Not a problem for Pinky and Perky there, as their feet don't even reach the footwells but, for 1/14 scale, they needed to be opened up The plastic's a bit on the hard and brittle side, and also very thick, so not that easy to cut large sections out. It does at least look like you'd be able to get your legs in there now Opening this section up also meant removing the two mounting posts for the dashboard coaming. These were ground away with a dremmel, and I'll plate over the floor to hide the scars. Oh, and the chunk missing from the transmission tunnel is a dent from a careless owner OK! Not, and I want to make this very clear, not a scar from the dremmel chuck. I'm a craftsman you know, I don't do things like that I've also cut away the rear panel behind the seats, which I'll make into a boot/storage compartment. The cutout will be neatened off with a plasticard border, then a semi-circle added for the lid. This will be open on the finished model, and I'll make a box section to go under the rear deck to form the compartment itself Right, that's it for now. It's all going back in the box until I get the X-Wing finished! Andy

  15. Hi all, So the theme of this GB got me thinking that I probably couldn't get more Made in Britain than a Red Arrows Hawk. The Reds have been quite literally "flying the flag" all over the world since the 1960s, thrilling airshow crowds with their precision, professionalism and skill. While I only got to see them for real as an adult, I've plenty of childhood memories watching them as part of Farnborough and Airshow specials on TV as a 'lad, with Raymond Baxter on commentary. Splendid stuff. So Smoke On and here's to the Reds! While I was going to use this kit from the stash... Airfix Hawk A03085 Box by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr With these decals... 18. Hello, Here's my just finished 1/72 Revell Gannet AS.4 in Marineflieger markings. I decided to do it as UA+110, which is preserved these days as UA+106 at the Luftwaffe museum at Gatow near Berlin. Bit of a mixed kit, some nice details, and some crappy fit, especially around the cockpit and clear parts. The tail hook snapped into 3 pieces, and one of the canopies has broken in two on the sprue. Painted with Humbrol enamels. I hope you like it. Thanks for looking, Pete
  19. Welcome to the RFI of my Revell Eurofighter Typhoon single seater 1/72. She is OOB except for the canopy which is a Pavla vac form one that I had to use as I killed the original. I scratched a few internal bits but apart from that she's box fresh. Painted in Tamiya acrylics and Vallejo metal colour with washes by Flory. The kit went together quite well a few bumps along the road but over all I'm pretty happy with the way she turned out. about half way through I decided to add the D-Day stripes which I'm really happy with. ( My first painted stripes ) I hadn't planned on taking the snaps yet but it was such a lovely sunrise this morning I decided to drag myself out of bed and take some snaps in the garden before heading off to see my old mum on Mother's Day. I think this one should be dedicated to her. The WIP can be found here. Without further ado let's get on with the pictures. I hope you like em. And that's your lot I hope you like them. Thanks to everyone for tagging along in the WIP and helping me through the tough bits and all the technical help. There are a few gaps and errors here and there but I'm happy and damned if I'm going back now. She's in the cabinet and that's that. I have started my new build thread here. If you fancy another joyous ride of the rum and uncanny. Take care and as always Happy Modelling. John.
  20. Here's my Revell 1/144 BAe 146-200 finished as G-MIMA of Manx Airlines, using F-DCAL decals. This was my entry in the Made In Britain II group build, WIP thread is here
  21. Hi guys. Welcome me to the RFI of my Revell Stearman Kaydet 1/72 It's been a while since this little bird was finished but I didn't have a spare moment in the sun to take the pics. I had to go to the docs today so I had a few hours to myself, I got some nice pictures taken in the garden with some nice autumn sun. The WIP can be found here. I scratched the office from plasticard. re-built the prop painted with Tamiy acrylics and rigged with ez-line. An excellent fun little build to bring the love back after the Mamoth prowler build. Here we go then, Welome the Stearman Kaydet. (Yellow Peril) 1/72 And there we are. I really enjoyed this build, the rigging seemed to go well giving me some confidence to do a bigger string bag I have in the stash. I hope you all like the shots and thanks to everyone who helped along the way. Take care y'hear. Johnny Ramone.
  22. Here is my Tamiya Tiger1 and Panther and Revell Jagdpanther . The flash has darken the colours a bit ,got the Miniart Normandy Tank Crew to go with the Tiger ,going to weather them later . Just checked i started the Panther in July 2015 ,pretty good going for me ,2 years to finish a kit .
  23. My first lighted model since I got back into the hobby which I built last year. It took me 5 months, at times I felt more like an electrician than a modeller LOL! There are also some daylight pictures of my JJ Enterprise, it's around 3 years old now and it was my first lighted model.
  24. Hi all, With the Vulcan and X-Wing off the benches, and the Gnats driving me up the wall, it's time to start something else. So, the Lancaster is the next stop. The Revell 1/72 Dambuster to be more accurate. We have plenty of goodies for this build: A couple of sets of Master brass gun barrels, Eduard masking set for obvious reasons, Aires wheels, and Eduard seatbelts and cockpit photoetch set. I figured that a lot of detail will be seen through the green house on top of this kit, so I've gone to town. Nothing has happened to this build yet, other than washing the sprues as I seem to remember Phil Flory having a problem with release agent on his video build many years ago. After market Hannants Xtradecals are to be used with this build also: To be honest, I bought these decals for a 1/72 Tornado GR.4 project (I've not started yet), and these decals are part of the set. Seemed to make sense to use them. Hopefully we'll have a good time with this little lot! Cheers, Val
