Miscellaneous items 1/700 Atlantic Models Sometimes, when building a model there are items that you’d love to add that extra bit of detail without having to go to the expense of buying a full set for which you’d only use a few parts. Well Peter Hall at Atlantic Models has thought of that, and released these two sets of etched brass just for those occasions. Both sheets are quite small due mainly to the scale, but they provide enough parts to detail a whole ship. Ratlines ATEM 06: This single sheet set gives the modeller exactly what it says on the tin, a set of sixteen thin brass ratlines to detail your latest windjammer creation. There are six paired sizes provided with two sizes having four pairs so you should be able to have the correct length for the different sections of the masts. The packet actually states they can be used for both 1:600 and 1:700 scales which makes them even more useful. Railings ATEM 08: Another single sheet set, but this one contains some incredibly fine railings for use with pre-dreadnought era ships. There are three styles provided with between six and seven lengths per style. More than enough to fit out a medium sized model. Conclusion These are a great pair of very useful sets for the 1/700 scale modeller. As usual they have been beautifully designed and etched although the brass used is very thin, so care will need to be taken when bending and fitting. Highly recommended Review sample courtesy of Peter Hall of

Battlefleet Models Maritime Accessories 1:700 Battlefleet Models Battlefleet Models of the USA have a growing range of products to tempt the maritime modeller, including 1:350 and 1:700 scale resin ship and auxiliary vessel kits. They also carry a range of dock related paraphernalia and other diorama accessories, including some really useful bits and pieces such as resin barrage balloons and mines. In other words, pretty much everything you need to display your maritime models as part of a detailed diorama. They also have a range of photo etch parts and decals. U.S. Coast Guard Decals This sheet, entitled US Coast Guard Decals, contains a range of black and white letters and numbers in 24, 36, 48 and 60 inch sizes, as well as U.S. Coast Guard lettering and insignias, flags and colour flashes. The decals are nicely printed details are sharp and colours are nice and bold. Carrier film is also minimal. Ratlines and More and Railings and More These two sets of photo etched details contain a wealth of useful parts for detailing 1:700 scale ships. The first fret contains a variety of ratlines in different lengths and widths. Also included are wheels, nets and other details. The second fret contains a range of different styles of railings, including two and three bar types with differently spaced stanchions. Also on this fret are ladders, stairways, doors, hatches, oars and davits. Both frets are unbelievably fine so fine that my scanner was unable to resolve all of the detail in the nets on the first fret! The brass is extremely thin too, so you wont need to worry about the ratlines looking too rigid. A gentle push with a finger should be enough to give them a very realistic appearance. Conclusion I must admit to being a fan of sets like these as they provide a useful range of utility parts that can be used to add detail to virtually any kit. There is no doubt that these are high quality products. In the case of the photo etched sets, the parts are extremely fine and the metal used is very thin indeed. The decals are just as good, being nicely printed and offering a useful range of letters and numbers. If you like what you see here, why not check out the rest of Battlefleet Models range?
