  1. This is for the ‘older’ crowd here 🙂 When i was a young lad the movie ‘Bat 21’ came out. I was fascinated by the two aircraft in the film, the EB-66 Destroyer and the Cessna O-2a. About the same time i found both aircraft in my local hobby store. The Airfix O-2 and Italeri Eb-66. The kits was too hard to handle for me at the time and i remember the disapointment with the finished models. Fast forward 30-some years later and the two planes was still on my mind - kind of unfinished business. I got the long OOP Airfix O-2 on auction way too expensive, but luckily Italeri re-issued the EB-66. In the early fall of 2023 i built the O-2. What a hassle! I used so much putty, had to scratch build the interior, pollish wondows and rescribe panel lines before i could finish this charming little bird. Not at all perfect, but it came out ok i think. A month ago i started the EB-66. Not as tough as the O-2, but still a lot of putty, rescribing and some modification to the engine intakes and refueling probe. Still a good feeling to finally be able to add those two birds to my collection. Hope you will enjoy the photos 🙂
  2. O-2As of the Air Force Flight Test Center. Used primarily as station hacks and range control aircraft. 68-6862 of the 6512th Test Squadron. on the Nellis AFB transient ramp, February 1981. 68-6867 of the 6512th Test Squadron on static display at the Edwards AFB Open House, October 1983. 69-7633 of the 6514th Test Squadron based at Hill AFB with the 6514th Test Group, an AFFTC detachment. Seen on the Edwards AFB transient ramp, May 1984. Thanks for looking, Sven
  3. This is my 1/72 Airfix O-2 Skymaster, affectionately known to its crews as Oscar Duece. At least I think it is Airfix. I bought is as a bag of parts that contained almost, but not quite, enough parts to make 2 models. The instruction were marked "Made in England" but no other identifying markings, so I am assuming it is Airfix. This was a bit of a more difficult build then I expected and not my best work, mostly because of the transparencies. There was no way to fill and sand the seams for the fuselage halves and the wing to fuselage joint without also sanding the window. I used a Flex-i-file polishing stick and future to fix the scratches, but they are still not as good as I would like. The interior was a compromise between the commercial version which I think had 6 seats in rows and the military version which had 2 staggered seats. I tossed 2 and moved the observers seat back a bit. I did not try and to replicate the radio equipment in the back. I think there were decals in the bag, but I tossed them because of sever yellowing and I had a Wolfpak sheet. I have used Wolfpak decals before and have been happy with them, but this sheet was a disappointment; they were thick, stiff with a large surrounding film and tended to disintegrate when dipped in water. Anyway, enough complaining and on to the pictures. Next up will be the Anigrand HL-1 and M2-F2 which I will probably post together
  4. Hi all, following my previous articles about Vietnam era helicopters, this is time for a fixed-wing! In late ‘60s USAF introduced twin-powered Cessna O-2A to replace single engine Cessna O-1 (my next project). Testors/Italeri kit is acceptable but almost basic. It needed a lot of improvements that they absorbed me for 6 months and 293 hours of real work. Cockpit with avionics rack and rear junction box is fully self-made (... except for cloches). Continental IO-360 engine is coming by 2 sets of edited Lycoming taken from old Esci Cessna 172 kits to set up a 6 pistons propeller. Firewall bulkhead and front gear bay and plates are made by styrene. Rivets and panels were rescribed for the whole aircraft. Pilot is freely inspired by actor Danny Glover who played the role of Capt. Clark ‘Bird Dog’ in BAT21 movie. The real aircraft is now preserved at National Museum of USAF, Wright Field, Dayton, Ohio. WiP is here below.... Cheers, Alessandro Rome, Italy
  5. Hi there, Alex here! I love to share with you my WIP of Cessna O-2A "Oscar Deuce" by Testors in 1/48. Started on October 15th 2016, I supposed to get a simple project after a well elaborated Hughes OH-6A earlier, but it wasn't! It's still taking a lot of time indeed! I collected a lot of pics and read some theads here and there before starting. During first check, the kit was quite attractive but basic. Some aftermarket items were a must. First of all about decals. The unusual "don't shoot" livery by Draw Decals was an exciting option at first, but after a long search on the web, I was quite sure it was a "fancy" livery, not on real life during Vietnam war. A second and good choice was given by Caracal decals by the sheet dedicated to O-2s. Above a picture of starting point..... Second step: opening door & baggage door... Some cockpit glasses were closed.... End part 1 Alex
