  1. " Things have become a little rougher, ugly and now we need a law enforcement unit capable of meeting the enemy on his own ground, and carrying enough fire power to get the job done." " Ladies and gentlemen, with great pleasure, i introduce ROBOCOP 2" The Old Man Hi fellow modellers. A few months ago i decided to get the 3d print files for Robocain from Robocop 2. The problem was i never actually had the time to start the project. With the current situation that the world is in, I have more time at home and i can finally get started. I know this project is going to take along time and i hope that you enjoy seeing my progress. The model will be in a 1/6 scale, which will make him over 40cm high ( go big or go home, i guess ). The printer i will be using is my trusty Creality Ender 3. The only things i have done is print a better parts cooling fan and change the board to make it quieter I know their are some other people in the forum that are doing the same build and cannot wait to share our problems, and solutions to those problems with each other. So my first pics The majority of the first things to print were the actual support structure and framing for this guy. Most of this you won't see but between that and the M3 bolts, he's built to last and that's a good thing in my household. So once the frame for the upper body is complete, you can then start to get some of the panels on. This is then gives you an idea of how your frame is and where trimming and straightening is required. The one downside to 3d printing is, if you don't get your settings dialled in, you will be sanding and sanding to remove the print lines. I suffered with this until i realised i had set my printer settings up wrong, so please ignore those nasty lines So up to this point, the build has been small to medium prints that only took between 1/2 hr to 2 hrs a piece. The first big print was the 2 half's of his upper chest armour. With a combined print of about 12hrs this was the first big and visible piece to be printed ( not including the head part ) The chest is 3 different parts and when i fitted them together they just didn't look right. Looking at pics online, it showed that the 3 pieces are one big piece. So i decided to glue them together and fill in the gap, which was the reason i think it looked wrong Once the upper body was done, i decided to move to the minigun and ram arm Once this part was done, i couldn't resist connecting it to the upper body and see how it looks. Oh btw its starting to get heavy lol Hope you have enjoyed this post and will post up when the next bit is done Stay Safe
  2. One of the iconic characters of the movie Oblivion starring Tom Cruise was undoubtedly the attack drones. These machines became a central part of the movie with recognizable characteristics and identifiable personalities. In the case of Drone 166, there was also a certain viciousness and a grudge. The model is about 8 inches (20 cm) and is mounted on a base that holds sound and lighting electronics. It was 3D printed from files found online but it quickly became apparent they needed help. I used Fusion 360 to rework the main shell and modify it to accept magnets to make the drone configurable from the flight mode to attack mode. I also created new parts to support the different configurations and added LEDs effects. All of the parts were made in Fusion 360. Finishing was done with common household spackle and gray filler primer. Once smooth, I shot a coat of white Tamiya Surfacer/Primer and then final coats were with Tamiya Spray. The parts are printed in PLA, which is remarkably hard and doesn't sand easy. I also used transparent PETG for the lighted parts. All of the electronic components were sourced from Amazon since finding components locally is sadly a thing of the past. Hope you enjoy it! I have a video of Drone 166 with the lights and sound working but don't know how to upload a video...
  3. I remember an old movie about an homecoming pilot or bombardier trying to settle down in the US after the war. In the ending scenes he was going among B-17 bombers lined up for scrap. Anyone knewing the name of that movie? Cheers / André
  4. Here is my Fine Molds Curtiss R3C in 1/72 scale from the animated movie Porco Rosso, the perfect companion to my earlier Savoia-Marchetti S.21. It is not very big: Build thread here: And both planes together: Nice kits and definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of the movie.
  5. Having completed (and very much enjoyed) my 1/72 model of the Savoia-Marchetti S.21 flying boat from the animated film Porco Rosso, I ordered the companion kit of the Curtiss R3C, also by Fine Molds. This is the plane flown by Porco's adversary, the brash American Donald Curtiss. It is an 'unauthorised' version (according to the instructions) of the well known racing floatplane from the 1920's - 'unauthorised' presumably referring to the twin machine guns mounted on the fuselage sides. Apart from those, and the addition of a beefy chin radiator, the plane looks quite faithful to the original. The plane in the film looks like this, here flying side by side with Porco's S.21: And here we see Donald Curtiss himself standing next to Porco (Marco Pagot): =============================================== The kit arrived from Japan in a sturdy box, with on the lid a brief explanation of what this aircraft is all about: This is also pretty much the only English text in the kit since the instructions are almost entirely in Japanese. However, this is not a complicated kit and I don't think I will have problems following the diagrams. If the parts fit as well as they do on the S.21 I will have a good time. There are two sprues, a dark blue one with most of the parts of the aircraft, and a grey one with parts for the beach trolly and the flying display stand. The stand can be built to accommodate not just the Curtiss but also the S.21, something I will try out. There is also a tiny pilot figure, we'll see if I can manage to make it look like Donald Curtiss! There are decals for various liveries, I will opt for the one with the yellow bars on the wings. As an alternative, skull symbols are included if you want to show the plane as one of the 'Mamma Aiuto' Air Pirates fleet. A second decal sheet contains yellow decals for the undersides of the floats and the bars on the wings. You could opt to use these and not even paint anything and you'd get a reasonable representation of the original, but I will try to spray the various colours myself. The overall colour is a very dark blue (Midnight Blue?) with Intermediate Blue struts. Colour call-outs are given for Gunze paints but I will use Vallejo equivalents. So far I have just washed the sprues and ordered some paint. I'll make a start with the interior soon.
  6. Hi mates, I would like to build this fantastic car: A quick look inside the box: And .. I Have to hurry to finish the job in time ... Better late the never ... 😀
  7. Found this movie on YT while I was searching for clips of Marseille's aircraft, I thought you too might be interested. The aircraft used are the Spanish Ha 1112.
  8. "Ext. The Sahara Desert. Late 1942 Silence. The desert seen from the air. An ocean of dunes for mile after mile. The late sun turns the sand every colour from crimson to black and makes the dunes look like bodies pressed against each other. An old aeroplane is flying over the Sahara. Its shadow swims over the contours of sand." So begins the screenplay for The English Patient, a fantastic novel by Michael Ondaatje that was turned into a fantastic movie by the late Anthony Minghella, winning a hat full of Oscars. When we got married, my wife and I had a section of the book as the reading. It's a big favourite. And central to the plot is a plain aluminium Tiger Moth, carrying the registration G-AFFC. I'm going to have a crack using the Revell rebox of the Matchbox Tiggy, making the decals myself. I'm quite nervous as I have rotten luck with aligning individual struts such as the four between the wings on this kit. Be that as it may, I'll give it as good a shake as I can and, all being well, will use the standing 'mechanic' figure to make Ralph Fiennes. Not sure how I might do Kristin Scott Thomas yet, but to be honest if I get far enough for it to be a problem I'll be thrilled! Here is the kit and sprues (still bagged!) On with the show...
