  1. A new kit for BSG fans: 1/72 Battlestar Galactica Viper Mark II (2pcs) by Moebius released last month dual-combo and not cheap: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10303793 http://www.hlj.com/product/MOE957/Sci i finally found sprue pictures here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.790136324395866.1073742146.374587389284097&type=3 edit: preorders: 1/72 BSG Cylon Raider (2 pack) 1/72 BSG Viper MKVII (2 pack) BSG SD Viper MKII - super deformed EGG version
  2. Recently completed Moebius Cylon Raider. It has been at various shows with me on my trade stand taped together so I decided it really should get a coat of paint to show the kit and lighting off to better effect. Painted using Alclad grey primer followed by Alclad Aluminium and Gun Metal, weathered slightly with Mig powders. I have a video showing the scanning optical sensor in its full glory, will post later as its on a different PC. Comments always welcome. Cheers, Warren
  3. Hi Everyone, Here is one of my next projects : Moebius Models Iron Man Mark III I will be painting this kit with Tamiya Acrylic paints : Clear Red, Titanium Silver, Gold and Metallic Grey for the display stand Anyway here are the photos of the sprues. As you can see this kit has been primed already with Humbrol primer. I did this a few months ago when I was working on my Redbull RB8 kit. Progress photos once I have done some work on the kit. Cheers, Rick
  4. Hi Everyone, Here is my most recent finished model. I have painted this kit in Tamiya acrylic paints : Clear Red for the main colour, Chrome Silver for the suit's base colour, arc reactor and repulsors, and Metallic Grey for the display stand. Anyway here are the photos: I hope to be able to work on the Iron Patriot kit as soon as I get some repairs made to the display stand. Comments welcome. Rick
  5. Hi folks, Here's the Moebius Viper I've been building for our club's Build-the-Same-Kit competition. It was a bit of a rush at the last minute since I spent half the last month painting my treeman when I should really have been working on the Viper Not a bad kit to build - some fit issues and quite a few sink marks, but it cleans up quite well and there's some nice detail. I added the Paragrafix etched set for the cockpit and engines, plus my own lighting rig using an ATTiny85 microcontroller and some RGB and plain LEDs. The battery power is on-board - 4 AAA cells should give enough runtime for a whole show, but they were a fiddle to squeeze into the space. Paint is Alclad and Tamiya with some Citadel paints for details. I used hairspray and masking fluid chipping for the first time and definitely want to do that again! I also masked and painted the stripes, which meant that since I didn't have to apply any decals I was able to avoid the varnish step and preserve all the metallics. I used MIG and AK enamels to weather which didn't cause any problems over the hairspray. It was predictably a lot of fun writing the code for the lights - here's an edit of the complete sequence, which takes about a minute and a half. There are also more/bigger images on Flickr: https://flic.kr/s/aHsjYSotM5 Thanks for the suggestions and encouragement on the WIP thread - it always helps to get other opinions - and thanks for looking, I hope you like it! Cheers, Will
  6. Here is my finished Christmas present that my fantastic boyfriend bought for me. I love the novel and have studied it at A Level and now I teach it to my GCSE students. I enjoyed this kit, it was VERY easy to build and went together easily. My favourite thing is figure painting so the building part is necessary but not my favourite pastime. I am pleased with the finished result and, if I was to do it again, I would consider doing a black and white version which would be tricky but interesting.
  7. Iron Man - War Machine Moebius 1:8 Iron Man what can you say, if you have not heard of him where have you been for the last few years? Iron Man is the latest in a line of Superheroes to get the Hollywood treatment. Starting in 2008 with Robert Downey Junior playing the lead role of Tony Stark a.k.a Iron Man there has now been three blockbuster films which have grossed over $2.4 Billion. Iron man was originally conceived by Stan Lee at Marvel Comics and made his first appearance in Tales of Suspense #39 in march 1963. The basic story is that after billionaire playboy / industrialist / engineer Tony Stark suffers a severe injury during a kidnapping he creates a powered suit of armour to escape. He then uses this as the superhero Iron man to protect the world. War Machine (real name James Rupert Rhodes was a Lt in the US marine Corps who served as a combat pilot in Southeast Asia. After being shot down by The Viet Cong he helps Iron Man who is at the times escaping in his original suit of armour. After escaping Tony Stark thanks Rhodes for helping to save his life by offering him a job as his personal pilot. Rhodes was to don the Iron man armour when Stark was unable to. Rhodes had problems with Starks armour and was forced to stop using it. Later on Stark designed the Variable Threat Response Battle Suit nicknamed War machine, this was a more heavily armed version of the Iron Man suit designed for all out warfare. After Starks apparent death he left a suit specially designed for Rhodes to carry on the Iron Man legacy. Even after the revelation that Stark was alive and the friendship between the two ended Stark asked Rhodes to keep the War machine suit as it was his. The Kit The kit arrives in a standard opening lid box resplendent with the figure in the pose the final model will take. There are six sprues of dark plastic in three bags, and a further bag of loose parts in the same dark grey plastic. There is also one small sprue of white plastic which has the parts for the ARC reactor lens, eye insert & repulsor lenses. A separate bag contains the base, again in white plastic. The parts appear to be well moulded with no problems or flash evident. Construction starts with the head. The white eye insert is glued in and then the head and neck are assembled. Next the white reactor insert is added to the chest plate. The upper torso is assembled and the lower torso parts attached. The chest plate is then attached to the front of this sub-assembly. The next subassemblies to make up are the arms. Each arm consists of two side parts. The hands are made up and the repulsor lenses added. Then the gun mounts are added. Elbow plates are added along with the hand back armour. The instructions have you add the guns at this point though they can be left off until later. Once the arms are made up its time for the leg sub-assemblies. The feet are three part affairs which are made up first. Then the upper leg parts are assembled. Once this is done the lower leg parts are added, these sandwich mountings on the upper leg and the feet at the same time. Knee parts are added along with rockets and their mounting plates on the lower legs. Next its time to make up the Gatling gun and its mount. The four part mount is made up first, then the 3 part gun is assembled. You then have make the ammo feed belt for the gun which is comprised of 8 parts due to its complex shape. Once all of these sub-assemblies are completed its time to add the head, arms and legs onto the main body. Final touches are to add the shoulder mounted rocket launchers, the Gatling gun and its feed belt. The figure can then be placed on the supplied base or one of the modellers own choosing. There are some 3 views of the completed model which will help in construction but the instructions are a bit vague on where the ammunition belt attached to the figure. On the whole they are good though. Base Its a good touch that this kit provides a base on which to place your completed figure. The base is pretty generic in that it is just a piece of cracked ground. However with some correct painting it should look the part. The base contains some large locating pins to slot the figure onto so there should be no problems of it falling off. Conclusion This figure is a more complex construction than the Iron Man figure from Moebius but should prove no problems to even a novice modeller. This will look great when made up next to the Iron Man kit or on its own. Recommended. Review sample courtesy of UK distributors for
  8. Iron Man Mark III Moebius 1:8 [ Iron Man what can you say, if you have not heard of him where have you been for the last few years? The Iron Man Mark III armour was as the name suggest the third suit created and also the main suit used in the movie. The mark III was the first suit to feature gold as a colour, with the colour scheme being based on a hot rod car owned by Tony Stark. This suit featured an anti-icing system stopped the icing at altitude problems the mark II suit suffered from. The suit also had shoulder mounted mini guns, wrist mounted rockets and flares. The Kit The kit arrives in a standard opening lid box resplendent with the figure in the pose the final model will take. There are four sprues of red plastic in two bags which form the main figure, and a separate bag containing the base. The parts appear to be well moulded with no problems or flash evident. Construction starts with attaching the head to the front body. The connector is placed in, and both sides of the head are attached. The face plate is then added. Following this both of the arms are constructed. The arms are made up of lower and upper parts. Both lower parts are constructed first and these are then added to the upper parts. he hands are then added. Following the arms it is the turn of the legs. The feet are constructed first and these are added to the lower legs. The lower legs are added to the inside parts of the upper legs, but it is important the outside of the upper legs are not added at this point. The arm and leg sub assemblies can now be added to the front part of the body. The attachment points for the legs are then added. It is important these are positioned correctly, as show in the instructions. Once the leg attachments and arms are in place the rear of the body is added. The leg sub assemblies are then added. Once these are in place the out parts of the upper legs are added, following the knees. The figure can then be added to the supplied base of one the modeller might have made themselves. Base Its a good touch that this kit provides a base on which to place your completed figure. The base is pretty generic in that it is a pair of large cogs. However with some correct painting it should look the part. The base contains some large locating pins to slot the figure onto so there should be no problems of it falling off. Conclusion This is a great looking kit, given the size and some nice paint it should make into a great looking model. Recommended for those Iron Man fans, and super hero modellers. 9. Got home tonight, at the end of a pretty crappy week at work, to find a parcel from the lovely peeps at SSM, which contained the new Moebius Battlestar Pegasus (plus the Paragrafix P.E. sets). Yay!. After diving into the box, I soon had the major components clicked together for a dry fit... and fit, they do. Very well indeed. This is all unsupported (no tape holding it together) and it's sitting quite happily, resting on the flight pods. Couldn't resist doing a size comparison with Galactica. She's definitely a big chunk o' plastic. I've been patiently awaiting this release, before starting on my Galactica. The plan is to have both Bucket and Beast, displayed together, in formation on the same base. Just thought I'd share some pics. It certainly brightened my day up.
  10. Fantastic kit -- I can't recommend it highly enough. The engineering is brilliantly thought through, the fit is exemplary, and the detail is great. Finished in Tamiya TS-8 Italian Red straight out of the can. Vallejo acrylics for the inside. bestest, M.
  11. A bit of a departure from my normal European exotics, but I heard so many good things about this kit that I had to give it a try. I don't generally like chrome-laden barges, but this is a genuinely cool car, IMHO... The parts, detail and engineering in this kit are superb, as many have mentioned before me. I had the body painted in Tamiya Italian Red already, just waiting a final polish. The rest makes speedy progress easy. No clear coat, just polished paint. I think it gives a nicely realistic sheen. Lots of work to do on BMFing the chrome, and then some more clean-up to get rid of the glue residue that always seems to be left behind! When people say in reviews "The engine is almost a kit in itself", I usually say "yeah, right..." to myself. But in this case it really is. I'm not sure why it was necessary to add detailed valve rockers inside the heads, but I'm not complaining. There are a few areas where the fit is not entirely clear (why ARE there eight holes in the joining surface of the two parts of the carburettor?), and the instructions would really benefit from a couple more angles on the pictures of the engine... The seats benefit from a gentle wash and drybrush -- they really are benches! The dash with some detail painting, BMF and decals. Looks OK, even at this range. Nicely moulded wheels, with a wash to pop the wires out. The printed whitewalls on mine were off centre and shiny, so I matt varnished them and filled them out with some Vallejo Off White. Maybe the white shouldn't go all the way to the raised lip, but at least two of the tyres had the printing nearly touching it at one side, so absent a way of removing the paint, I just chose the easy way out and filled the whole sunken section. The completed cabin. The steering wheel is a little chunky (and seems a bit over-large. I can't believe any 1/24th scale guy could get his legs under it... and it's way back in his belly, too...) But it does have nice, and accurate detail, which responds well to painting. The interior is probably a bit over-contrasty in this light, but once its all in side, I think it'll look nicely complex. By the way, if anyone knows what that thing on the rear "parcel shelf" is, and whether it should be silver or not, or have something in the recesses, I'd really love to know. Now on to building the chassis. bestest, M.
  12. Hi all, after seeing how cheap the Moebius Iron Man kits were on the Modelzone site, I got the Mark VI armour. Here are my build pics Box Shot DSCF0002 by raystorm_uk, on Flickr Sprues, not many parts DSCF0003 by raystorm_uk, on Flickr Complete! Only took an hour or so! DSCF0006 by raystorm_uk, on Flickr Next to be done is a bit of filling and seam sanding, and then a coat of black primer.
  13. Hi all, Some photographs of 4 of the kits I've completed since getting back into kit building - this time with a Sci-Fi/comic book slant. All mostly 'out of the box' builds and all great fun to make! Airfix Angel Interceptor Polar Lights Batmobile - Snap Kit Polar Lights Batmobile - Snap Kit Moebius Batpod Imai Thunderbirds Zero-X I have uploaded some photos of 4 of the real space kits I have completed since getting back into kit building and they can be found here. 14. Wow came in today to find 150 kits from Marvel Iron Man film from Moebius for a bargin price of £9.99 http://www.models4hobby.co.uk/TV_Movie/
  15. Ever wanted to find a classic car in a Junk Yard or hidden away in a long forgotten barn? In the States (America to you and I) there is a group of people called "Pikers" their job description is "Antique Archeology", who travel around looking for just this sort of thing. This particular model is inspired by the excellent book Dr Cranky's "Ratz Rodz and Rusty" and by all things rusty. The model is a 1/24 scale plastic kit from Moebius. Rusted with: Lifecolor Rust and Dust set Mig: Light, Standard & Old Rust pigments Barn scratch built with balsa wood This model just built itself, so to speak... Another in a long line of rusted gems. Cheers Richard
  16. HI,the may issue of the Airfix mag,has a nice write up[small] of the moebius iron man suit, from iron man2 "The War machine" in 1/8 scale.if your intrested? cheers Don ps theres also a mention of the haynes manual for the Klingon bird of prey,
  17. This my attempt at painting up the Moebius Seaview interior. I added lights from the model railway store and some very basic wiring, everything designed to run from a dolls house adaptor and socket. Additions to the crew were from the Revell Visible UBoat which were darn close to the scale Moebius used.
  18. This is the Flying Sub for the original (4 window) Moebius Seaview kit. I was looking for a way to display it and after seeing some wonderful naval storm dioramas in FSM I decided to do it this way, not an original concept by any means but a fun thing to do.
