  2. Hello all trying to salvage an early build of mine. The kit is the reboxing of the Revell mk IIa i replaced the cockpit, landing gear, and propeller when i built the kit. However the Paint is horrible as at the time i was only able to use rattle-cans. And the colors weren't a good match for the DFS. Recently i oversprayed a RAF Dk green on it. Just not sure if i should go with Dk earth or ocean grey ? Its an early spitfire mk IIa. Now if my memory is ok theres not much difference between a Mk Ia & Mk IIa visually. And i was thinking of making either a B.o.B. Mk IIa or a lend lease. Did the russians get early mk's or nothing until the mk V. I cant seem to find photo's of early Mk's in russian markings. I really would love to do a Dk. Green Dk. Earth scheme. So will most likely wind up doing a B.o.B. Scheme. Im not a rivet counting builder type so i can fudge it a little. However I at least like my models to be plausible. If anyone can answer the Russian ? And if there is any major Differences visually between a Mk Ia & IIa would be very greatful. Dennis
  3. Hi all, I'm back from uni now and I have had the opportunity to take a few pictures of the last model I built at uni. Airfix's 1/72 Mk I; the Mk I obviously being by far the prettiest Spitfire ever built. Built OOB with the addition of Tamiya tape seatbelts a fishing line aerial and tin foil rear view mirror. WIP Built wheels up, pilot in, as the great RJ Mitchell had planned, the Spitfire looks so much better in flight than she does with the undercarriage out. No more explanation needed. 4. Evening all, With the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain next year, I've devised a cunning plan to build as many RAF and Luftwaffe types from the conflict as I can. A couple of decals sheets arrived today, and I've already made a decent start on the first kit, Airfix's lovely little Spitfire I. The interior is pretty much there now, nothing too special going on, just the addition of some Eduard seat belts to tart it up a little. There's a variety of Spitfire to choose from, though I'm a bit of a sucker for black and white undersides, so may well go for that option. Decision time is still a little way off, though she should come together pretty quickly. More soon, thanks for looking, Shaun
  5. Hello again, As I'm sure a couple of you know, I have one hell of a passion for Spitfire's (particularly XIV's). And for the last couple years I've almost exclusively built Spitfires, all 25 of them in total (more than one a month!). So after my most recent diorama decided to finish the final two kits I have left before starting a civilian De Havilland collection of the Golden Era! One thing to note; usually I spend a week or two getting one model done and spend a lot of time scratchbuilding extras, getting every single detail right. These two I decided I wouldn't get hung up on accuracy or try to make them 100% perfect, I decided just to relax and enjoy the builds. I'm rambling again. The penultimate Spitfire I finished is Airfix's Pr XI in 1/72 (Cross kitted IX and XIX). Painted as it was in the 1948 air races, owned by the US Civil Air Attache to London and flown by ex ATA pilot Lettice Curtis. It's depicted in flight beside my ATA Anson diorama. And my FINAL Spitfire build is Airfix's new tool Mk.I (I just had to finish with the beautiful Mk I). Thanks to everyone who's complimented my Spitfires over the past couple years, and thanks to everyone at BM for improving my modelling! Here's a couple pics to show how much I've improved since joining BM 2012 2014 Well, I guess this is the final Spitfire RFI I'll make for a while! I hope I can still keep you all interested with my upcoming Moth collection Cheers, Ben.
  6. Hi there, Finally completed my Spitfire collection, 'nuf said. Pr.XIX Lf.IXe Mk.IXc Mk.Vb Mk.Ia Lf.XVIe Lf.XIVe Lf.XIVe Lf.XIVe Lf.XVIe As is probably quite clear, my favourite mark is the XIVe. The front row are all bubble tops. Ben.
