  1. Built for our Club's "Mig Killer" competition, here's my take on Mirage F1-CZ "213" of 3 Squadron, South African Air Force. On 6 November 1981, Major Johan Rankin shot down a MiG-21 of the Angolan Air Force whilst flying "213" Kittyhawk's Mirage F1 kit in 1/48 finished off with a variety of aftermarket bits and pieces, and some elbow grease. Master Pitot tube Yahu Instrument panel Ejection Seat Reskit R550 Magic missiles Reskit Wheel set (the wheels in the kit are too large) Reskit Exhaust Paint scheme was completed with an assortment of Mr Colour acrylics, A-stand metallics and Hataka Lacquers for the camouflage. Markings came from the Albatross Models Dark Mirages decal sheet, and a Coastal kits display base was used as a foundation for the presentation Standard walkaround... ,,,with four from the top Thanks for looking mike
  2. I've been looking forward to this GB all year and now it's nearly upon us I can't wait to get started. I've got heaps of ideas for builds, but as I've got to get the Canadian GB finished (once that's done, all my modelling will be in this GB until it finishes) I'll start with something fairly straightforward - a French Mirage F1C in a Tiger Meet scheme, using the Special Hobby 1/72 kit and Syhart decals. I'll post a photo of the kit later, here's the scheme: cheers Julian
  3. Hi all, just a small 1/72 I've recently finished. It's the Special Hobby Mirage F1EQ in the IRIAF scheme. From what I understand Iran's Mirage F1 fleet are all originally Iraqi aircraft which were seized by Iran during the Gulf War as reparations for the Iran/Iraq war. Two were later overhauled and painted in this striking blue/grey scheme to support naval operations. The kit was fantastic, the only fit issue I had was with the nose and the exhaust. Every image of the actual aircraft I've seen had no hardpoints or weapons so I opted for the clean look. The blue paint used was by Vallejo which I've never used before, but I definitely prefer Tamiya if I'm brush painting a scheme like this. Thanks for looking in!
  4. Recently completed this... 1/72 Special Hobby Mirage F1. Hasegawa decals which were printed way too dark. Added scrap plastic antennas to the tail fin, everything else out of the box from a donor Special Hobby kit. Xtracrylic XA1138 ADC Grey, Hataka blue grey for the upper part of the fuel tanks. All metal areas using Vallejo Metal Colour. Custom thinned Klear gloss coat, then used Ammo Mig Blue/Black PLW, & a final coat of Xtracrylic matt. Thanks for looking! Martin
  5. My latest work... Special hobby Mirage F.1 EQ
  6. Finally finished it! Quite an awful kit which requires lots of extra work and some aftermarket goodies - Eduard PE's and Matra Magic II missiles, Master pitot tube, L'Arsenal resin Raphael SLAR pod and Colorado decals. But in the end it's a great looking jet Best regards from Czech and happy New Year to everyone. Andrew
  7. I know I have a bit of a reputation for doing stupid amounts in a GB so I would hate to break the mould. Here are three Mirage F1s, using the excellent Special Hobby kit. As you can see from the jumble above, only one of the kits is in a box. The two single-seaters are from the bagged "simple kits" that Special Hobby released about a year ago. These are simply the plastic parts with no decals, supplied in a bag. In effect, they are Special Hobby's equivalent to Eduard's "overtrees". I will be building the following: Mirage F1AZ - Gabonese Air Force. This will use the LF Models conversion set. @Giorgio N will be using the same set for his build, which will be a bit more involved than mine. You can see his build here. Mirage F1JA - Fuerza Aérea Ecuatoriana This is the export version of the F1E. I was struck by the two green camouflage as shown on the Xtradecal sheet and a couple of photographs on the net. @eclipse pointed out in the chat thread that the scheme is actually green and brown. Different references give different paint numbers for the lighter colour, so this will be quite interesting to research while the build progresses. Mirage F1B - Armée de l'air You can't build a batch of Mirage F1s without building one in the classic French blue scheme. It's The Law! The Special Hobby kit provides a suitable scheme, but it is a special scheme. I much prefer standard line jets, so I'll be using a scheme from an Xtradecal scheme. It's really quite plain, which I like. Let's have a look at the parts. Here are the fuselage halves for the single seater. The first batch of these kits had a slightly damaged bit at the very front of the part. this was rectified in subsequent batches. These parts are actually from a boxed kit which had the damage. I replaced these parts in the box with perfectly formed parts from a simple kit. I will be using them on this build for the Mirage F1AZ. It will be having major surgery to the nose anyway, so I thought that the damaged part wouldn't be an issue.
  8. 22 June 1995 marked the dissolution of EC 3/12 Cornouailles. Here's Kittyhawk's Mirage F1 CR/CT kit dressed up with Eduard etch, Scale Resin Wheels, Master Pitot and finished off with Berna Decals : and here it is on its display base : Thanks for looking. mike
  9. I've been trawling the internet and cannot seem to find any photos of Mirage F1s with a weapons load out! Did they NEVER carry weapons?! Google has not been my friend.... In particular, I'm looking for photos of Moroccan Air Force F1Cs - did these use a pair of R530s, one under each wing, or just a singleton under the fuselage? Did their F1Es ever use AS30s? Any help would be appreciated.
  10. Hi all, I finally completed my Kittyhawk 1/48 Mirage F1CZ. I have to admit, I'm relieved that this one is finished. Build thread here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234951466-148-kittyhawk-mirage-f1/page-1 Thanks for looking. All comments welcome. Victor
  11. Second build for this GB, this is the Hasegawa Mirage F1 - although this particular kit is in a Revell box. Once again, I built this kit about thirty years ago, so it's going to be a lot of fun building it again. I had originally intended to have a minor Mirage F1 frenzy, building two Hasegawa kits and two Heller kits to make a small collection. But that was before MPM announced a whole family of Mirage F1s, making the kits in The Stash somewhat redundant. I'll still build them, but the collection will be from the MPM kits. Let's hope that MPM follow the Mirage F1 family with a Mirage IIIC/E/V family. Anyway... this is the box, with a £7.99 price sticker. And the sprues. Despite being over thirty years old with raised panel lines, it's still a lovely kit. I think I'm gonna enjoy this.
