  2. MIG-21 PFS, 1/72. Kitbash from two Eduard kits: - fuselage and canopy from PF kit; - tail is a mix of the two - mostly PF with lower part removed and replaced by parachute container from PFM; - wings and almost all the rest - PFM. Eduard resin cockpit (PF), resin engine, modified MF resin speedbrakes, resin missiles (R-3S). Small alterations to jetpipe cone (thinned walls, added internal structure). Roundels and fin flash from PFM Profipack kit, tactical number airbrushed with homemade viny masks. All comments are welcomed, Iulian work on the specific PFS Tail detailing the jetpipe Eduard resin engine

  4. Hi Folks, I wondered if I could pick your brains about a Mig-21 Fishbed , a particular Mig-21 , its one thats a memorial at the former Smuravyovo 2 Air Base near St Petersburg. I fancied trying to build a diorama that is loosley representative of the one below. I wondered if anyone fancies having a stab at the colours , I have no idea where to even start, I suspect, that once upon a time, that it was in a standard 2 tone green/brown upper with blue lower, I figure the blue lower is from the remaining blue on the undercarriage door. It looks to me like its been ravaged by the weather but I have no idea what colours would be suitable for the faded camouflage scheme, almost the blue is like the colour of the statute of liberty like old aged brass the brown is a tan. Does anyone have any ideas what I could use? Thanks much in advance Mark
  5. Hi All, Question to all the MiG experts - does anybody have reliable information on the size of standard 490 litre MiG-21 fuel tank? Best to have full length, tail length (length of the section with stabilisers) and diameter at the middle point at least. I'm now building three MiGs and seems that fuel tanks from Modelsvit, Eduard and (more expectedly) KP are absolutely different. Eduard and KP are the same full length while Modelsvit slightly longer. At the same time Modelsvit and KP have the same length of stabilisers (Eduard has shorter stabilisers and overall noticeably smaller). Also all three are different diameter. With Eduard slimmest and KP clearly too fat. Based on what I see on pictures Modelsvit seems most spot on but some measurement against reliable drawings or tech data could be helpful too.

  8. Hi all, I'm investigating what could be a reasonable ordnance for MiG-21MF in Yom Kippur war. Now I understand that there could be at least three very typical options for interceptor role: two K-13 missiles, four K-13 missiles, two K-13 missiles + 2 extra fuel tanks. I also understand that MiG-21 could carry only bombs or only missiles or only rockets because of limitations of its avionics. Combinations with extra PTB (fuel tanks) are possible. MiGs were not really able to carry a big bombload so couple FAB-250 is probably the limit, although two FAB-500 is also theoretically possible. Finally I read that MiG-21 were used in the first days to carry ground attack missions against Israeli SAMs and airstrips. But I find no photoes of Egypt MiGs with anything other than K-13 as per above. So a question - if MiG-21MF were to execute ground attack missions in Yom Kippur war - what would it carry? Would a simple combination of two FAB-250 + two extra fuel tanks seem likely for you? Maybe any other atypical ordnance configurations you've seen? Thanks a lot! Dennis
  9. Hi everybody! I want to share with You my last model. It is polish MiG-21MF. The first MiG-21's delivered to Poland were not painted with silver paint but remained in the natural color of the metal. I decided to make just that a MiG.

  11. Hello to all of you.I have just finished my 1:72 R.V.Aircraft MiG-21 UM of the Serbian Air Force.I hae upgraded the cockpit a bit and finished the model with Mr.hobby and Mr.color paints. The decals came from LIft Here decals and I am quite pleased how it turned out.I hope you will like it as well. Regards,Dragan
  12. Hello! After recently finishing my gannet I decided to finish another "purgatory shelf" model (what I call my shelf of doom/old WIPs). The Eduard MiG-21 is a lovely kit, I just lost interest in it for a while. During the Summer Holidays I finally had a chance to go back home to Hungary again (after three years!) and I visited the Szolnok Reptár Aerospace museum. It was brilliant. Being up close and personal with all these aircraft inspired me to finally go back and finish my MiG and I must say I am very pleased with the result! Without further ado, here she is; In the end I ended up having a lot of fun with this model and the aftermarket decals by HADmodels behaved well. Only issue was the stencils were misnumbered and I had to do most of it by eye, I can still definitely recommend it though if you have good reference photos (which I did because of my museum visit ). I hope you all enjoyed looking at this and thank you for looking. Next up (probably): Trumpy 1:72 Westland Wyvern
  13. Hi all, had nothing small and simple enough to knock together in 24 hours that I hadn't already started so had to raid my dads stash for his Academy MiG-21. Nice, simple kit- comes with Finnish decals but since its just a MiG-21F-13 I may use some spare decals and do it in an East German scheme, maybe even a Vietnamese or Chinese scheme as a J-7. Looking forward to taking part in my first Blitzbuild weekend. Thanks for looking in!

  15. 1/72 - MiG-21 Fishbed family project was finally officially confirmed by Eduard http://www.eduard.com/store/out/media/InfoEduard/archive/2015/info-eduard-2015-01CZ.pdf (english version soon) MF, bis and SMT versions expected first
  16. Hello Everyone please feel free to post photo’s of any previous MiG-21 builds. You may include All variants of the basic design.
  17. So the first of my pair of entries is this: I've never built a Zvezda kit but they are Russian and it comes officially licenced too (according to the box). The box is a top sleeve over a sturdy top opening cardboard box, inside there's the following: The kit comes with a stand (nice addition), a pilot figure - always a gripe of mine that for the amount of plastic a lot of manufacturers don't include one. Instruction booklet seems clear enough, in black and white and show options for having the undercarriage up or down (nice, I like to do up). The decals are quite sparse - though I really don't mind as I find placing 100s of stencils on aircraft rather tedious - options for a few aircraft, I think I'll go with the Polish version as I want to try doing a NMF. I have some aftermarket paint masks from Eduard but other than that I plan on just doing it straight OOB. More to follow, once I actually get to make a start on it - the PBY5a Catalina is taking up a lot of workbench space at the moment.
  18. For this, my first group build, I'm going to build the 1:72 Eduard models MiG-21MF in Indian Air Force colours. I've got the Bunny Fighter Club version of the kit, BFC094, which comes with some extra resin and photoetched parts, but otherwise looks much like the Eduard MiG-21MF Interceptor Profipack (70141) reviewed here: I'm basing this on a couple of images of C1500, which is aluminium with red and white stripes on the tail. Source: https://www.bharat-rakshak.com/IAF/Galleries/Aircraft/Vintage/Fighters/MiG21M/MiG-21r.jpg.html I want to try a couple of things for this build: firstly I'm relatively new to airbrushing and want to use this to try out the AK xtreme metal paints (although I've got chrome rather than aluminium - hopefully the difference won't be too huge!); the other thing I want to try (and this may be a non-starter, I would welcome any thoughts) is laser printing tail stripes as a decal using a sheet of Clear Laser from TransOurDream Tru-Waterslide Decal Paper. Other markings will be from the box or from Caracal Models markings (CD48156) for an Indian Dassault Rafale, which were the closest I could find. I've started on the decal - to work out the size I need to print I'm using the following steps: - tape the fuselage halves and tail together - press kitchen foil onto the tail to get a sense for how much longer the shape will need to be to account for the curvature of the body - mark the foil, smooth it out and then cut out the foil shape - scan the foil shape and import into MS Word - trace the outline with line segment to get an outline - overlay this on a scan of the instructions, and resize this image to scale - clean up the image to merge the best of both of these images - add red and white lines Hopefully I'm doing this right!
  19. Hello everyone I've just finished the Eduard 1/48 Mig 21 MFN the Czech version. It was a remarkable kit which cost £20! It went together extremely well, no filler was used and the surface detail is excellent. I can't recommend this kit enough for the price. It was made OOB no extras although in the box you get enough weapons and canopies that you could make probably any variant you wanted if you know all the different antennas etc.i painted this with acrylic. Started with a black base then followed with mottled blue, brown and grey then finally a light coat of pale blue to tie it all together and leave a weathered appearance on the paint. It's supposed to be light grey with a dark grey intake but I like the steel look better. The decals took two days to complete as there are so so many stencils I actually googled Czech Mig-21s to see if the stencils were perhaps less obvious but no they were all there in every photo so I stuck with it and I'm glad I did. This build took 2 weeks start to finish as it's not big but most importantly it's well engineered in terms of construction and fit so it was a breeze so much so that I have ordered another weekend edition of the BIS which I never really do as I tend to not build the same plane twice. Anyway enough of what sounds like me advertising for Eduard! Here's the photo's enjoy! Weathering was done with black and brown pigments and then sealed in with a matt coat which still retained a satin appearance. The seat in the weekend version doesn't have any belts so I just made them from tape that's the only thing I added I was going to add canopy seals but there were none and I didn't fancy painting those on or ordering them. I'm happy with the result without.
  20. Hello Guys.I hope you are all doing well.I have finished this mig several days ago.It is the old Zvezda MiG-21 PFM.An old kit that still builts up pretty well.I have added a resin km1m seat and the rest is oob.I had to spray pain the markings because I could not find decals for this one.Paints used are gunze and tamiya and the varnishes are vallejo and AK. regards,Dragan
  21. Hello Everyone... Welcome to the MiG-21 Single type group build of 2022. This World Famous aircraft has Multiple users, sixty plus years in service, and a boat load of Camouflage options to choose from. So as for what exactly is eligible please see #3 below. 1) A 'WiP' thread for each model with regular updates showing your progress within the GB timescale is required. 2) All scales, mediums, aftermarket, and other goodies will be allowed. 3) This is “THE” list to go by. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Mikoyan-Gurevich_MiG-21_variants This includes all known manufacturers from Russia, China, Eastern Block, and Indian. 4) WHIF’s - Now as for the question of WHIF’s. I will allow a Whif on the basis of mockups. No paper projects. It should have had at least a 3d physical model for it to be acceptable. Whif’s based on non-users of MiG-21’s might be acceptable. The operator (Air Arm) in question should have at least operated some form of Soviet jet prior to and possibly post the Mig-21’s usage. Thus making it a plausible expectation. 5) Please keep comments within these threads civil & respectful. If you can't be nice then please be quiet. 6) If anyone has any issues please bring it to me or Modelling Minion (Craig’s) Attention. If this fails Enzo Matrix or another Moderator will get involved. 7) A gallery is available for the display of models completed within the GB timescale. Please limit the number of photos to five for each subject. There is also an inspiration gallery for the display of previous builds. 8. There will be absolutely No Buying, Selling, or trading in the threads. There are dedicated locations for this. Positively no exceptions ! 9) Please do not hesitate to ask questions about anything either myself or my co host @modelling minion will try to get you an answer as soon as we can. 10) Last but definitely not least, Please have fun finishing is nice but is not important. We want you to enjoy your time here in the group build. After all this supposed to be a hobby. Thank you the Hosts and Moderators.
  22. Just off bench the revell mig-21smt or should I say the eduard mig-21smt in a revell box as all the frames are stamped eduard. Firstly the good, it was a dream to build everything except one section fitting together perfectly, very little filler, beautiful detail and options. The not so good, had issues with the cockpit seat being too high so the canopy didn’t sit down resulting in having to sand the base of the seat down flat and then some, and some of the decals silvered although that might be me not allowing time to dry fully in the damp and cold of winter. And a word of warning if a brush painter like me, the panel lines are a little shallow in places so the paint filled them up a little too much in places under some paints. If this was my first eduard and if this is what they are all like I’m very tempted to get another mig-21 for a classic grey or bare metal finish. As always comments and advice for future builds gratefully received.
  23. Hi All I'll be back in the world of building again in a few weeks and am looking at new projects and quite fancy doing the Croatian AF 2 seat Mig-21 with the red/white chequered pattern. Which is the best quality kit? I'm planning to use the Begemot decals... Many thanks in advance!
  24. Hi all, been cracking at this whilst my account was being approved. I’m building the Cuban 111 Livery of this Soviet Icon.
  25. Just putting out a feeler for information about the specfics needed to get an Indian MiG-21M. My gut tells me it can come from the MF or M kits (Eduard). Am I right? As always, your input will be invaluable. Martin
