  1. I have had this lovely kit for several months now I picked it up at Milton Keynes IPMS show and have been desperate to start it and not had the time. Today I have started this lovely kit and wish to make a model of the Prototype B2 this will mean deleting the wings carrots , tanks and trimming the leading edge modifying the tail fin and intakes. I am using the Excellent article and Drawings by out very own Bill Clark from SAM August 2006. The Drawings are fantastic by Arthur L Bentley I wonder if there are Drawings for the B1 The initial B2 looked very elegant and similar to the B1 as I have made a model of XH533 the Prototype B2 Vulcan again being similar to the B1 I thought they would make a nice pair and I am fascinated with the early years at Farnborough.   2. This older kit from LionRoar before they began their GWH brand has long been one I was a leetle bit scared of, due to its multi-media nature. It's about 50% brass, and quite intimidating. Anyway, with some new paints & primer to try out, it got pulled from the shelves and started. The build was quite quick but fiddly, and it was the painting and weathering that took the time. It was primed with Ultimate Primer and painted with True-Earth's new SDW Shading colours, which were very useful and easy to spray finely - let down only by my lack of skill in using them! After painting the model was chipped with Panzer Grey and a lightened version of the Dark Yellow base, then had some True-Earth Ageing Fluid dabbled about here & there. Some Mig Pigment soot was applied around the barrels, with various shades of mud around the wheels & undersides, plus a little bit of metallic used here and there where the paint had been well and truly worn away. It was an enjoyable build, with lots of new things and all I need to do now is paint up the rockets, then find some crew to man it. The backdrop is just a sheet of Model Scene Late Summer with stones that I picked up from the man himself a while back during a visit to a Czech model show The first pic shows it after the rockets were painted, the rest before. I've had this old kit in the stash for a while, and since a recent reorganisation it's been calling me, so with a need to review some of the new Ultimate Primer, and to get more use out of the True-Earth SDW Shading Colours, it seemed like an ideal time to give in. It's little more than five tubes on a chassis, so I hoped it wouldn't take long, but as it's a multi-media kit consisting of complex turned brass tubes, photo-etch (PE) brass, styrene and resin, plus a smattering of copper wire and rubber hose, it turned out to take a surprisingly long time to build. The rocket tubes need three lengths of angled-brass gluing inside that stabilise the rockets on launch, which was surprisingly easy to do, although you have to ensure they line up with the rows of holes pre-drilled along their lengths. Someone at the factory had left one of my tubes too long however, so I had to mark it up to the correct length and reduce it with my Dremel, being careful to cut off the right end! Next up was the assembly of the tubes in their frames, with a number of styrene parts added to strengthen the bond. Then came the time-consuming job of adding dozens of little rivets to the outside of the barrels, representing the rivets/bolts that hold the guides in place. I started using CA, but it was getting messy, so I switched to Gator's Grip PVA, which worked better, but meant I have to replace a few as the build progressed, as the glue doesn't have much grip for a gator. The retention locks and ignition devices were styrene, linked to a distribution box on the side by lengths of copper wire that were quite fancy shapes. Careful measuring and bending was needed to get them anywhere near, and lots of small clamps were glued on to keep them down. The ends of the wires went into tiny styrene bolts with PE nuts on, so it was another fiddly job that needed a steady hand or perseverance, so I used the latter The chassis was fairly simple to build up from styrene, although the instructions were a bit vague in places, as were some of the location points. I survived though, so did the model. I attached the barrels to the mount, and then to the chassis, at which point I added back all the missing rivets, around 10 in all. I primed it with some black Ultimate Primer, then overshot it with some white from above to give it a little pre-shade because I had it in the airbrush for the review anyway. That was left to dry for 24 hours, and I'm now at the stage of putting a base layer of SDW Dark Yellow (TESC 20) on to form the basis for further weathering. If you've read my review you'll know it is a very fine pigment, which is borne out by the ease with which it sprays at the smallest of apertures using my 0.2mm Infinity. Opening the nozzle a crack starts the paint flow, and there is no such thing as paint drying on the tip, or clogging. Even the next day it sprayed immediately without any faff. Nice, and once I get used to it, I think I'll possibly be using it more and more, so I'll need to stock up. Pics of the basic paint job when I've a minute
