  1. I've not posted any during build pictures of this, but completed it at last .... and the first of 2023! This is an out of box build, so nothing special and it's one being used to hone my techniques. I have taken some time on the canvas to try to make it realistic looking, it does have some highlights along the edges and where the support hoops would be aswell as some subtle shading. Weathered using mostly splashes. 3. Whilst waiting on paints to arrive for my Chinook build, i started on the Hobby Boss Land Rover, which due to how easy it was to put together, it didn’t take long! Which meant i could get on with the diorama setting. Having seen these vehicles in Afghanistan for myself (though not with ATGM’s) i really wanted a patrol meeting scene. Also in this build was a 1/35 scale Modern UK Infantrymen, present day by Masterbox, and they make up all the figures of the scene. Even though i have finished this build, having a bit more experiance with paints ect. I will go over the vehicle and figures in a Matt Varnish to take off the shine from them. So this one being my 3rd build, i am extremely happy with how it turned out. Though thinking back on it, it would have looked a bit better with fabric rolled up on the front light grills(for blackout) and some kind of lash down for the spare Milan Rocket.....maybe ill look into it in the future.
  4. The venerable Tamiya SAS Land Rover from what feels like a 100 years ago. I'm sure we've all built it at least once, I found this about a third done sat in it's box on the shelf a couple of weeks ago so decided to get her built. Mainly Tamiya, with some Accurate Armour and who knows what out of my armour spares box. Brush painted with a custom mix of Humbrol enamels, Winsor & Newton matt varnish and weathered with Humbrol enamels again. The plan was a well used version on a tea break with some sort of figure studying the map, but that chap appears to have gone off on other things. She was fun to build, I look how she looks and all four wheels touch the ground at the same time! 5. Kit already in my possession Kit already in my possession Kit already in my possession Waiting for this kit Getting back into modelling after a few years break. Intend to build a set of vehicles that made up a Chieftain based Armoured Regiment REME Fitter section. The fitter section consisted of about 15 men of various trades and kept each squadron going. 1RTR was a regiment that had 5 squadrons A, B, C, D and HQ Chieftain IFCS and Togs modified based, but all the fitter sections used Centurion MK2 ARV's as the then new Chieftain ARRV's were needed by all the Challenger Regiments (CRARRV was still on the drawing board at that time). I have already received a Revell 3/4t Series III Landrover, a Takom FV432 and an Accurate Armour FV434. Just waiting for an Accurate Armour 3/4t Trailer (for the Landrover) and an Accurate Armour Centurion ARV Mk2, plus associated items that will make the vehicles that formed the fitter section I commanded when serving with 1RTR in Hildesheim BRD.
  6. Somewhere in Europe… THE BRITISH ARMY 1976 - 2000. © Crown copyright. IWM (CT 681)IWM Non Commercial Licence Fashionably late to the party, I have acquired a Takom FV432 2/1 and hope to make a decent fist of it, reports I’ve read suggest it’s a nice kit to work with. I’ve added a Reveleri Series III Landrover to the stash as well, largely for sentimental reasons as my favourite vehicle I’ve driven to date, is the 1983 Series III 88" Landie that my family owned briefly in the early ‘90s. BRITISH ARMED FORCES IN GERMANY 1976 - 2000. © Crown copyright. IWM (CT 1216)IWM Non Commercial Licence The box art features a spectacularly lurid shade of IRR green which I will not be seeking to replicate on my model! Untitled by jongwinnett, on Flickr
  7. Finally completed this pair a couple of months ago. They started out as an Xmas pressy for someone, but with one thing and another and loss of interest, the build dragged on and on. The Airfix etch set was used and really makes a difference to both vehicles
  8. Having made a bit of a mess of my Sea King, and seeking some light relief, I've started assembling one of the Airfix Jackals. I have one each Jackal and Coyote to build, plus crew and Landies. More or less OOB. Mini-stash: Untitled by jongwinnett, on Flickr As I mentioned on the Sea King thread, I was inspired when a Jackal rolled past me in the village late one evening, crew muffled against the Scottish summer, and I thought what a cool looking bit of kit. And I love Land Rovers. Obligatory parts shot: Untitled by jongwinnett, on Flickr
  9. Hello, As mentioned in the chat thread I'll be trying to build a 1/76 Cuthberson Land Rover. Makes a change from my usual helicopters I've wanted to build this for some time (I forgot that I had started it but all I've done is removed the parts from the sprues and glued two bits together) ; at the time I was looking into building a landrover centaur and during a google image search I came across these photos and thought "YES! This must be built!" I will be using the Airfix Land Rover Hard top (ex JB models) kit and will attempt to resin cast the drive wheels and probably the road wheels from the Ace Scorpion kit. I'll be using the old airfix series 1 landrover from the Bristol Bloodhound set to help get the size right as I will have the shorten the body of the Hard top landrover. Thanks to RobG for the idea for the tracks in the chat thread; I was going to to use the PE tracks that come with the Ace Scorpion kit but they look completely different, so will try using thin strips of plastic card and short lengths of brass. A fair bit of surgery involved with this one, but looking forward to it. Happy Newyear folks and all the best for 2016
  10. For my first work in progress I am going to have a go at the Airfix WMIK & Snatch landrover set. After a look at the parts and seeing it uses decals for window grills I decided to complete it with the Airfix etch brass detail set. Vehicles are not something I build very often and for me using etch for any model is even rarer. Four grey sprues of nicely detailed parts but seems quite few need work to clean flash and mould lines up and one clear The etch is very nice. The bonnet checkerplate and grills are very finely done. So lets see how this goes...
  11. Landrover WMIK with Milan Hobbyboss 1:35 The majority of parts and sprues in this kit are exactly the same as that reviewed by Mike back in 2011, HERE, so rather than repeat what he wrote this review will deal with what’s new in this kit. Hobbyboss kits come in nice sturdy boxes, and this one is no different, with an artists depiction of a Milan being fired from a WMIK somewhere in the desert. Inside are the same Caramac coloured sprues that go to build the base vehicle. The only difference is that there is a new sprue containing the parts for the Milan launcher, missile tube, tie down rails for the sides of the rear compartment and a spare missile container which is assembled from the two main body parts plus two end pieces and fitted to the left hand side of the fighting compartment, but not before the two tie down rails have been fitted to both sides. The launcher is made of the main three legged base onto which the mounting unit and three gas struts are attached. The sight arm and optical unit is assembled out of two halves, onto which the optical lenses are fitted along with the optional positioned protective covers and pistol grip. The missile tube is also in two halves which, once glued together are fitted with the front cone with moulded frangible cover. To the bottom of the missile assembly the attachment rails are attached. The launcher is then assembled and fitted with the pintle which slots into the hole in the base unit. The missile and sight assemblies are then attached to their respective positions. The whole launcher assembly is then attached to the mounting ring fitted to the vehicle. To replace the incorrectly positioned spare wheel on the bonnet in the original kit Hobbyboss have provided an open storage rack. Conclusion This is a very nice addition to the WMIK fleet and whilst the kit still has a few inaccuracies, such as the mountings for the two SA-80s it really looks the part, especially with that big launcher on the roof bars. I can quite happily recommend the kit it looks like a lot of fun to build and can be detailed to the hilt by diorama modellers and super detailers alike. Review sample courtesy of
