  1. Hello fellow modelers, On New-Years eve I had the roll-out of my recently build model, Tamiya 1/48 F-14A Tomcat kit from the VF-84 Jolly Rogers...FEAR THE BONES ☠️!! It was a joy to build this shake-and-bake kit from Tamiya, the only aftermarket stuff I used were: PE seatbelts STEEL No. 49806 from Eduard; F-14 Alfa Probe AM-48-007 from Master-Model. I used my favorite paint, Gunze Aqueous: Grey FS16440 H315 - 10ml; Insignia White (FS17875) H316 - 10ml. For the panel lines, I used the PLW from AMMO: For the grey color: A.MIG-1602 Panel Line Wash - Deep Grey For the bottom Insignia White: A.MIG-1601 Panel Line Wash - Medium Grey For some subtle oil streaking, I used the oil paints from Abteiling 501: Black ABT110 - 20ml Raw Umber ABT007 - 20ml Enjoy the reveal pics and for everybody around the globe...Happy New Year ! Cheer, Jos
  2. This Corsair came with me from the LHS last week. I also bought two Vallejo Model Color bottles (Dark Sea Blue and Intermediate Blue) so I can paint the aircraft as accurately as possible. Both paints were tested on a paint mule, and found out the paint applied over unprimed areas tended to lift if masked. That's why I'll be priming the entire model (something I don't usually do) in light grey, so I can then lay down the camouflage colours. The kit is of the raised panel line style, unsurprising since this model was released in the 1970s. It's been reboxed multiple times until 2013, the printing date of the kit's decals. There aren't a lot of parts, and some of them have a bit of flash, but nothing a sharp scalpel can't solve. I'm aiming to start on this one after December 22 of this year (hopefully). Edit: Startes the kit yesterday. I just couldn't resist.
  3. A pair of Revell 1/144 F-14A arrived yesterday, so the plan is to build them in flight as a wingman pair. The bags of bits
  4. Good afternoon I am looking for a little advice, has anyone had any experience with the decals from this kit? They are from a new kit with the decals still in the bag. When using them several of the decals struggled to separate from the backing and even though the kit had been glossed and also using Micro Set and Micro Sol they just refuse to stick to the kit. I have stuffed it away in disgust and have started to look for other decal options. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Stef
  5. Decided to go for a 1/72 FA-18F SuperBug for my next build. Always been a fan of Naval aviation, and have really been enjoying the Academy new tool 1/72 kits as well. I know they're snap-fit (sort of), but the detailing is superb and the size is perfect for my shelf. I am going for a Fleet Interception/ Air to Air specific loadout. Payload will be 6-7 AIM-120s and 2 wingtip AIM-9Xs. I am using 2 resin dual LAU 115/127 launchers from Attack Squadron, and 2 single LAU 115 launchers on each side. An additional AIM-120 is possible for mounting to the lower airframe right next to the landing gear. Will likely forego this, but it is possible. Part 1: The build. Began with the cockpit and airframe: Intakes installed: Cockpit: Dark Gull Grey. Part 2: Final build and weapons. Had issues with the nose fit, so putty was a must. and after: Good fix, and looks solid to boot! Weapons and launchers: Weapons are from 3 different sources: 1/72 f15e eagle, Hasegawa Weapons V pack and this kit. I decided to use 2 dual resin LAU lanchers for the AIM-120s, to bring the real Air to Air/fleet interception mission to life. I think these came out quite well, and will bring the total possible number of AAMs on the bird up to 8-9 depending on if I go for 6 or 7 AIM-120s with the 2 wingtip AIM-9X's. Final pre-paint assembly: Part 3: Priming and paint. Primer is Alclad grey primer and microfiller: Paint: Bottom: Light Ghost Grey MM enamel. Top: Dark Ghost Grey MM enamel: Bottom: Impossible to note difference between primer and paint. Top: I purposefully did the top with some thick blotches of the dark ghost to give me a head start on weathering. The blotches are to simulate salt air eroding the paint unevenly. Next update will be post shading and further weathering (maybe salt crystals on topside). I will also try to finish weapons, and paint the LG bays, gear, and doors. Stay Tuned....
  6. Just finished the new Tamiya kit. Totally Out of the Box. It's for Tamiya Canada so the RIO is in but the pilot seat is empty to show the variables. What was crazy about it? Well look down the photos and you will see that the model was built, painted, decalled and mostly detailed in sub assemblies and then brought together. Crazy - yes, was it a risk? No. As you can see no visible seams from this construction and it actually made painting much easier especially on the underside. I wouldn't recommending this process on any kit but on this one- absolutely. The WIP link is here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235023242-f-14a-tomcat-modular-construction-updated-final-assembly/ During pictures I noticed the nose pitot is broken, the stabilators are not pushed all the way in, the refueling probe cover fell off at some time and in some pics the right side wing bladder and fairings are not installed. These. are all fixed now Thanks for looking! And as promised the pile of completed sub assemblies.
  7. Hi there! My first small Tomcat - based on the very good Revell Kit in 1/144 with scratch built flaps is ready for inspection! More pics will follow. For size comparison: See you!
  8. Hi guys! This is my another project in 1/48 - Eduard (Academy) Good Morning Da Nang. I have started it some months ago and now decided to continue my build here. I'll be very glad to hear any comments of my work. P.S. I beg you pardon but my english is not very good now because I've got out of practice for a long time!
  9. Hi My first post, but long time lurker. This is my 1/48 F-14 Jolly Rogers Tomcat - CDC Armour/Franklin Mint mold under the 'Mack It' brand name. This was a diecast metal kit I had rattling around the loft before I took it out and painted/made a few mods- adding a little more detail to the cockpit- pull ejection seat handles and a few instrument changes. Arrestor hook fell off.... All humbrol airbrushed, alcad shades, airbrushed weathering, with Flory washes. A heavy paperweight for sure. Have an F-117 in kit form also so will be doing that one soon.
