Since the other models I have started still need a little time for all the glue points and colors to harden and this kit has been lying around in my collection for a long time and screamed at me every time I stood at my shelf: "Please build me, please build me, build me, build me, bui ld me, build me,..." I just couldn't hear this whining anymore -
I'm attempting to build Eduard's 1/48 Bf109F-2 from the Weekend Edition boxing. This one, actually: The obligatory sprue shot: Plans: And finally, decals: Two decal sheets in this one, a bigger one with the aircraft markings, and a smaller one with the stencils, etc. I'll probably apply the more prominent stencils. This will be an OOB build, building the second option, which is for "White 10" of 7./JG 54 in the USSR in Summer 1941. This aircraft is not attributed to any particular pilot. I just need to clear my bench of a few stragglers before starting this. Hopefully I'll be on it next week.

So I took this to work: with the intention of scribing some panel lines during a particularly dull conference call I had to do. Some decals from a later boxing as the originals were shot: So not quite sure how it progressed so fast but dry fit (for something so old) was good: And after some serious filler: This might be almost ready for primer same time as the mosquito. Not shown is the canopy which is masked with an eduard vinyl mask - bought it off someone on here - hhmmmm different from the tape ones Anyway, original kit is from 1978 but I think this is the 1980 boxing.

Time to throw my hat into the ring, first I had to finish this; The Hasegawa 1/32 d9 late Then when thinking about the group build i didn't want to do my other Hasegawa kit with all the goodies as I would run out of time. So I started looking in the stash for other options. With the new Eduard 190's on the horizon i thought I'd get shot of one of my profipak kits I started looking and I came across Hans Dortenmanns A6 used when he made his first kill in Russia (not without losing 3 feet of wingtip in the process) and I have an affection with this because of this Eduard kit I did last year; That was his last aircraft when in JG 26 at the end of the war. I then looked at my A8 and found another of his aircraft so the plan hatched, two Eduard Profipak kits and three of Dortemanns aircraft in the cabinet and whats more JG54 as my avatar. this will also do with an A4 JG54 and a 109E4 JG54 so it all makes sense. so here we go first obligatory shots A6 A8 So then here goes lets face it they're not the easiest to build either............. -
I just noticed these SA-Kuva pictures of JG54 and I know that planes were painted differently than normal Luftwaffe planes. So there might be some interest to these.

My template - copie found by eBay: This Bf 109 had but in itself. In issue #15026 Kagero "Battle of Britain Part III" I found on page 4 of impressive camouflage this "double angle" machine from Kommander Hauptmann Hubertus von Bonin ( I./ JG54, Eindhoven 1940) By chance I found on eBay to an auction of an image that went for € 398.- across the table. (see top) The same picture could be have for only 21.- € in the booklet "Luftwaffe Gallery II" by Mombeeck. The basic camouflage is ready for this kit, RLM71 over RLM02, some areas are overspayed with RML71: The basic camouflage now oversprayed with RLM02 (mixed with a touch of yellow-brown.) This work I have realised within 60 minutes, Decals from KAGERO booklet (bonus from this publication) and from "Error"master

I'd like to share with you my Eduard FW-190A-5 (weekend edition) that I completed last summer. It's built with Eduard's "zoom" photoetch, and painted with Tamiya acrylic, weathered with oils, pastels and Prisma pencils. It's built mostly out of box, the only changes are that I closed up all the access panels (and isn't that a job!) drilled out all the guns and exhaust, detailed the gear, replaced the wheels with True Details resin wheels, and replaced the cannon barrels with tubing. It's to represent Emil "Bully" Lang's machine on the day he scored (I believe) 15 confirmed victories in one day on the Eastern front. This is my completed 1/48 Hasegawa Fw 190A-5, of Walter Nowotny when in JG54 'Grunhertz'. I used the Hasegawa 'Priller' A-5 kit and some of the decals from the Eduard ProfiPack to make Nowotny's mount. I used a combination of Humbrol, Xtracolour and White Ensign Models enamels, some Eduard seatbelts and Master Brass gunbarrels. I drilled out the spar behind the armour headrest to run the antenna wire down (not as convincingly as Mal's Sturmbock build!) and used a strand of hair for the antenna wire (reacts well to CA and is flexible). I also added the 'gear down' indicators above the wing, made from some toothbrush bristles cut down and painted red. On to the pictures. Need to fill the antenna hole in the yellow theatre band... Wing cross (port ) looks off centre, it's just the camera.

Cut & dropped elevators. Cut & repositioned tail wheel & rudder. Brake lines from various gauges of fuse wire. Master MG17 barrels (not in photo). Focke-Wulf Fw190A-5 5 Staffel I/JG54 Operation ‘Zitadelle’ Summer 1943 ….and we’re done. Thoroughly enjoyed this project. Kit went together with the minimum of fuss. Camouflage came-out exactly as it looked in my head before I began, something that doesn’t happen too often. Especially happy with the weathering on the underside and the way the MIG pigments settled in to the main wheels & tyres giving a dry/dusty ‘feel’.
