  1. Have never built a 1/48th Panavia Tornado so this Group Build is a great opportunity to cut my teeth on the Italeri Tornado IDS kit No.2648, this was released in 2006 and cost me £12.99 four years later The main decal sheet is for a Marineflieger MFG 2 Anniversary scheme worn in 2003, there are other options for two 'Operation Granby' RAF GR.1's, an Italian IDS of the same period, and a Luftwaffe IDS of JBG 37. This will be out of the box although I might look at other decal sheets. Michael
  2. Howdy, Another WIP... The last few days have been spent cleaning and re-organising my modelling room. Things were quite bad that most recent fettling has taken place on the kitchen table. After the sort out (which is still in progress but majority done) I thought I'd start this kit, something I've been keen to get on the bench. Dangerous territory here, but my thoughts are that rather than building one kit over a long period of time I'll build a few at the same time in the hope I'll have more finished kits... Whether this happens or not is yet to be seen. Anyway... The build After many times perusing the rotary nostalgia & Bristow threads on PPrune for reference and inspiration I came across a few photos documenting a Bristows AB204B used in the Oman. VR-BDX was based in Muscat and Khasab around 1980, assisting with the installation of electrical pylons. Having a personal affinity to Oman (being born and spending my early years living there) the idea of modelling this aircraft really appealed to me. I'll be using the italeri 1/72 UH-1B kit (more notes about this below) and CMK detail sets for the interior and for external details. My initial choice of kit was the italeri 1/72 AB204 (makes sense of course as VR-BDX is/was an AB204B). However, VR-BDX was not fitted with a Gnome engine, as per the italeri 204 kit, which is fine as I was going to use the CMK kit which as far as I know represents a Lycoming T-53 engine. Also, and this is where I'm a little confused, but I am a layman so maybe some more knowledgable out there could correct me, but the tail boom of VR-BDX looks to be the same length as a UH-1B. I was under the impression that civilian AB204B's were all built with the extended tail boom and larger diameter main rotor? From the information I have gathered on the forum threads and other online databases VR-BDX was an AB204B. Using a very rudimentary comparison involving a picture on my ipad and the two fuselage pieces, one from a 1/72 UH-1B & the other from the AB204B kit, it would appear that the UH-1B kit is the correct length for VR-BDX. Not much in regards of progress. The doors have been cut from the fuselage halves. The interior is almost ready for some primer and the seats have had some work but need some more details added (no photos of the latter). For those interested, here is a link to the forum thread with some photos and info on VR-BDX (I hope this is allowed? If not then please delete the link Mods ) Post #487 http://www.pprune.org/rotorheads/287207-bristow-photos-25.html And some other photos appear on the following page as well. Heres a profile pic of VR-BDX taken in 1972. One of the pics I used to compare the UH-1B & AB204 fuselage pieces. http://www.abpic.co.uk/photo/1097593/ Cheers Aaron
  3. #28/2015 Tamiya boxing of the Italeri kit, started by me in ancient times, mostly built up but then I put it away. After lying around for some years my dad finally decided to finish it. Here´s the outcome.

  5. The 1st Northamptonshire Yeomanry operated Valentines during 1941. In the period 1941-2 they became part of the 6th Armoured Division. During World War Two the Regiment remained in the United Kingdom and from 1941 – 1942, elements of the Brigade were assigned duties as part of the Coats Mission, the plan to evacuate the Royal Family in the event of a German invasion. The 2nd Northamptonshire Yeomanry visited Linney Head, Castle Martin, Pembrokeshire from February 1st to the 13th, 1941. They fired between the 2nd to the 11th using 2 pdr Valentines from Westbury, Wiltshire. They visited a second time from January 24th to February 3rd 1942, using Valentines and Matildas from Brandon, East Anglia. They visited Anney Head in December 1942 using 6 pdr Valentines and Crusaders.
  6. Hi everyone! This is my MIG-29 (9-12) Fulcrum of Italeri in 1/72. This was a beautiful kit to build, good fit, overall very accurate and detailed. I added some detail to it, Pavla resin interior, Eduard PE, and Authentic Decals sheet. I also added some cables to the landing gear. The scheme belongs to an "agressor" soviet squadron. I coudn´t find any information or photos of these airplanes except for one, and another model built in the ARC forums. i have to say that to be correct to this scheme, it should be a MIG-29 9-13, but I realized after finished, because the decals didn´t say anything about how to paint it or to what model belonged. I hope you like it! Every critics or comments are welcomed. Best regards! Ignacio from Uruguay
  7. Picked this box up for just under 10€. The kit is date, raised panel lines, but the fit was good. The decals were callenging. The instructions aren't 100%. For example the yellow triangle decals for the upper side of the wings are sown on the underside. The camouflage took me longer than expexted. The base was done with Vallejo IDF Sand 71141, the masking was done with a variant of blue tack. Than I made a mistakethe next layers were to tick and I had to clean up "rolls" of paint near the blue tack. The other colors Vallejo 71126 and 71125. Overall I like the Israeli camouflage, makes an airplane more bright. Thanks for looking. Jan Remco
  8. The Corpo Aereo Italiano - the Regia Aeronautica's expeditionary force sent to assist the German Luftwaffe in bringing Great Britain to terms - probably owed its origins to two factors, the first being RAF air raids on Italian cities in June and September 1940 which stung Mussolini's sensitive pride and the second being the potential for Italy to make gains in the Mediterranean and North Africa at the expense of the British Empire once Britain had been forced to a negotiated surrender. Sadly for Mussolini and fortunately for the British, it didn't quite pan out that way. The CAI was beset with problems from the outset which limited its impact on the battle and resulted in it losing a number of aircraft and crews to accidents as well as to enemy action. Not least of its difficulties was that the aircraft and equipment provided was not up to the standard of that of the Luftwaffe and the RAF; also in terms of tactics and combat training the CAI pilots were 'newbies' entering a game being played between two opponents who had several months of combat experience. Despite this the Italian pilots and crews put in a creditable effort, fighting bravely and attempting to carry out their objectives, but ultimately they achieved little and were withdrawn to Italy starting in December 1940. The Fiat CR.42 equipped the 83., 85. and 95. Squadriglia of the 18. Gruppo Caccia (Fighter Group) commanded by Maggiore Feruccio Vosilla and based at Ursel in Belgium. This is the kit I will be building: It's the Italeri kit dating back to 2006, this edition includes a well-illustrated reference booklet: ... with lots of colour pictures of the CR.42 built by Fiat in 2005 and now on display in a museum near Rome: It should be a useful reference. The sprue shot: It looks a nicely designed and moulded model. I'll be using this in addition - the instrument panels and the seatbelts at least: For additional reference I have this: ... and the aircraft I intend to represent is the second one down in the profile from this book: ...because I like the yellow band around the cockpit basically - my understanding is that the CAI Fiats were in fact painted in the more usual three-tone upper camouflage with aluminium-painted undersides so I will be painting mine thusly rather than the yellow-green scheme shown here. Fortunately for me, that is one of the options provided in the DP Casper 'Forgotten Battles' transfer set 'Operation Cinzano': Finally, these are some of the colours I will be using - these are from the new Colourcoats range for the Regia Aeronautica and chosen as advised by the Stormo! Colour Guides here: They are (top row): Giallo Mimetico 1, Giallo Mimetico 4 (I'll be mixing a little of the second into the first, as it looks a little pale to me) and Verde Mimetico 3 (bottom row) Grigio Mimetico, Grigio Azzuro Scuro (I think the former for the interior colour but possibly the latter, more research required...) and finally Marron Mimetico 2. For the Alluminio underside I will use Alclad Semi-Matt Aluminium. Right, I think that's everything covered, well done if you managed to stick with me through that lot Cheers, Stew
  9. After waiting for to me the highlight of the releases this year only equalled by the upcoming Airfix seaking I am more than deflated I was so looking forward to this kit and even though I am not the most accurate of modellers I feel let down The kit is the old OH58A with a few added parts. First of all the skids are now the high skids which is what I wanted but the bend at the top is far too thick and to be honest they are best replaced with thin wire. The rear cabin has no seats I got around it by using some from the spares box but it really should have been in the kit especially the price they are charging circa £13 The tail pylon has the shaft cover now but not the gearbox housing it may only be a little thing but it should be there as the LAPD aircraft pictures when googled show it in place, The decal instructions are very hit and miss the LAPD drawing shows the placement of the spanish police's tail rotor warning decal as well as the italian aircrafts serial. the drawings and the box art show the right ariel under the tail but the kit suppliers the wrong one The rear doors have the place for the minigun still moulded on but apart from the italian one in the helicopter museum i cannot recal any civvy ones having them I am just disappointed as this was my release of the year and hoped for better. Anyway normal 5ft away looking distance applies Rodders
  10. Italian Kits Wings ( http://www.italiankits.it/itkitswings72.html) is to release 1/72nd Fiat CR.42B two-seats Falco (post-WW.II) resin conversion set for the Italeri kit - ref.IKW7218 Source: http://www.master194.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=55&t=88535 V.P.
  11. Hello everybody, This will be my first group build on BM, I only hope I don't show myself up and produce a decent looking model at the end! I have a few french modern jets in the stash at the moment, I was tempted to go with the Mirage F.1C in the 'Normandie Niemen' boxing, but I am going to go with the Mirage 2000D OOB, Not a bad looking kit, I believe it is a reboxing of the Italeri kit, I haven't purchased any aftermarket as I'm confident I can produce a nice looking aircraft OOB. Fingers crossed all goes well, Rich
  12. Italeri has just re-released its 1/72nd CANT Z.506 Airone - ref.1360. This kit is announced as "Fully upgraded moulds". Source: http://www.italeri.com/scheda.asp?idProdotto=2374 V.P.
  13. Here is my Henschel Hs 129B-2 in 1/72 scale. Made from Italeri kit with Eduard ZOOM PE set and self-made MK101 cannon. Nothing special, I`ve made it 3 years ago... and still don`t know why. 🙂 Aircraft serial 0310 belonged to commander of 4.(Pz)/SchG 2. It was captured by Allies on Castel Benito airfield (Libya) in the end of 1942.
  14. I present for your entertainment my recently completed Italeri Spitfire Vb WiP here. I chose this for relaxation after Memphis Belle. Big mistake. Although it has few parts, there are challenges as the WiP shows. Built OOB as EP706 wearing 'T o L', 249 Sqdn. Malta 1942 (it says in the scheme). Spitfiresite.com says: On Malta, the aircraft saw service with No. 249 Squadron. Due to scarcity of serviceable aircraft, pilot rotation was usual on Malta, and EP706 was reportedly flown both by F/O George “Buzz” Beurling, the highest-scoring Malta ace, and Sqn/Ldr Maurice Stephens, commanding officer of No. 249 Squadron. It is probable that both these aces scored victories while flying this aircraft. The paint scheme was standard Dark Earth/Mid Stone over Azure Blue and red spinner. Airbrushed with Vallejo Model Air, unprimed (don't do this!). Edit: Forgot to add one of that 'pouty mouth': Thanks for looking
  15. Here is my F-51D Mustang in 1/72. Made with Italeri kit (lot of errors!), Eduard PE set and Pavla resin propeller. Numbers and "sharkmouth" made by myself. Aircraft serial 44-74384, code FF-384, 12th FBS, 18th FBG, Korea 1951/1952. I was suprised how hard is to find complete information about any Mustang from Korean War. Well known painting schemes are full of insinuations or errors (even FF-736 or FF-943!). Korean Mustangs had 3 different, optional propeller types, changing colors of wing tips and spinners, different "sharkmouth" types etc. That`s why I choose this rare painting scheme - it was the only F-51 of 12th FBS that I was sure how it should look like. 🙂
  16. Those of you following my ramblings know I planned to build this as a rest from my Memphis Belle build but was distracted by a present from my daughters, a Gromit Aeroplane. Belle is now curing and I find myself at a loose end, so I thought I'd have a look at this again. I have several good reasons for choosing this: everyone else is building Spitfires and I want to build one now ("What a shining wit", as Mr Spooner would say) the kit has the fewest lessist smallest number of parts of any kit in my stash Malta because it's one of the schemes and "The Malta Story" was on tele (telly?) recently (Alec Guinness and Jack Hawkins - yes!) and I could pick up some detailing tips from the film as they're always realistic. And some clarification on the aircraft colours*. It's this kit: Look - "No 001"! Procopius (my Spitfire guru) has already warned me that this is not one of his favourite kits and Cookie commented that the trop filter "turns the Spitfire from a young blade about town into a grumpy old man who has just sucked on some lemons." Nevertheless, I shall proceed! * Just kidding, it's a black and white film. I thought of that 'witticism' one night. Then I thought "Why not build a Spitfire exactly the same as the reference photos? Sort of Greyscale?". That'd be really accurate and will get the rivet counters going! Then I came to my senses and had some more wine. Drink responsibly - no shouting.
  17. Kit - Italeri 1:72 Paint - All Xtracolour enamels Decals - Hi-Decal Line 72-029 Extras - Droptanks from Fujimi A-4 kit, AGM-62 'Walleye' from Hasegawa weapons set. Grumman A-6E(TRAM) Intruder VA-85 'Black Falcons' USS America, 1993 And before it got all 'messy' it looked like this: As ever any and all criticism, questions and comments are welcome. Thanks for taking the time to look and/or comment. AFN Ian.
  18. Hello all For my latest offering, here is my finished SWS - short for Schwerer Wehrmachtschlepper (Heavy Military Tractor), as I just found out on Wikipedia - with Flak 43, courtesy of Italeri's 1/35 kit. A very nice kit it is too, with the more complex sub-assemblies for the flak gun going together with no trouble at all, and Italeri being kind enough to offer options to pose the back end closed up or open in the firing position. The only odd thing is the way the front wheels sit clearly off the ground by a good few millimetres (most noticeable in the last pic I've posted) - hoping that's a kit error rather than one of mine... It was built OOB and airbrushed with Tamiya acrylics. I kept the weathering light, limiting it to a bit of muck on the tracks and tyres, an oil-based wash and a bit of drybrushing to help bring out some of the raised details. Pretty happy with how this has turned out, especially as I managed to keep my usual quota of self inflicted errors to a record low! Thanks for looking. Adam
  19. Hi folks, another project completed over the weekend is Italeri,s golden oldie in civilian guise, for it,s age a good stress free build however the decals are a bit of a challenge to say the least and it was a close run thing between the shelf and the bin.In the end I just wanted to get it done so spent all Sunday morning completing her, thanks for looking wip here. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234979998-lets-be-civil-the-sequel-junkers-52/
  20. Finished a couple of months ago. Figured it was still worthy to share the result, although I continue having problems to take decent pictures. I hope you like it! Best, Ricardo New Picture Old Pictures
  21. Hi folks,it must be participating and seeing all those "art deco" thirties aircraft in the French fancy GB that drew me to have a go at something similar in looks in the form of Junkers tri-engined 52,so being pay week it was time to Pick up Italeri,s recent boxing which includes a superb decal sheet including a pre-war version with the Large red tail adorned with the National Socialist emblem(not supplied) so not straying too far from my military interests. There are a lot of ejector pin marks to fill on the interior for those that prefer filling them to get to grips with. The kit has been around for many a year but still has some fine details notably the corrugated skin,so not as modern as last years Airbus my first civil build but hopefully as interesting. Thanks to Nils for helping me out with photo,s of the interior of his build for colour references.
  22. Hello all There have been a number of really good Hurricanes posted on here lately, so apologies if seeing another one induces any eye rolling or weary sighs... This is my build of Italeri's 1/48 Hurricane Mk1 in 1/48 from late last year. This was a really nicely detailed kit, but for a relatively new tooling (2011?), I was surprised to find a really nasty large step between the upper wings and the fuselage when fitted together. Took a lot of sanding to get it somewhere near level, so may have lost some detail in that area. Otherwise though, this was a nice kit to build, with some photo etch extras included in the box for the cockpit (seat harness and instrument panel, which I managed to install without ruining, for a nice change). It was painted with Gunze / Mr Hobby acrylics. The roundels on the upper wings were painted using Montex masks, but I found them quite fiddly to use even with just two colours, so bottled it when it came to the 3 and 4 coloured ones, and reverted to the kit decals. Limited the weathering to a panel line wash and some exhaust / gun stains. Overall, pretty happy with how it has turned out. Thanks for looking. Adam
  23. Hello all One of my recent builds - Italeri's Stuka in 1/48. Built out of the box, with just a Montex mask to assist with the canopy (which would have driven me nuts to do myself with tape) and a bit of EZ line for the aerial. Generally happy with the result, although I had a couple of issues, more down to my limited skills than the kit I suspect. I was originally planning to pose it with the engine partially exposed, as the kit had a decent looking engine included, but just couldn't get it lined up properly to have the engine cowls on one side, so ended up covering it up completely. Also, had a bit of trouble with the bomb release mechanism, so the main bomb is just stuck on... Painted with Tamiya acrylics, weathered with a Flory dark dirt wash and a flattened finish with Vallejo Matte Medium. Anyhow, to the pictures. Thanks for looking. Adam
  24. Mt first post on Britmodeller, but I'm quite proud of this one and it's a bit of a step up for me! A nice fitting kit, with raised panel lines and not exactly bursting with detail, so it's been rescribed, and then I've had a first try with a rivetting tool (the Rivet-R mini, highly recommended!). Thanks for looking, and hope you like!
  25. Hi, here is a build of mine, from the past. Not from my stoneage but quite old, done in the 2000-2002 time frame. If you build the Italeri offering of this well known type, you can do what ever you want, it won t look like a Ju 88 build from the box. That kit was probably the first time, that i noticed, a bad looking kit is not only my fault. While the wave pattern, sprayed free hand on,was quite good, i decided to make some changes, to bring it more to the real thing. -the nose cone got some strokes with a sanding stick -The props were shortened to achieve the look of the massive wooden propellers (the two this engine nacelles are way to slim, so undersized props are not to bad) -the undercarriage is way to long, i cut of most of the oleo strut and the tires lost some air pressure -the brooms protruding out of the canopy were cut back, the simulate the look of the MG 81 – The canopy was polished and got a layer of clear The L1 code of KG 26 should be the small one, may i change this in the future. The rebuild and the pix were done in fall 2014. Could be a Ju 88 ? I hope you like this oldtimer Cheers Bernd
