  1. For the first time ever, let alone on a group build, I shall be attempting two kits side by side. A pair of Macchi C.202 Folgore in gorgeous sand/green desert schemes. Wish me luck..!
  2. The most advanced fighter jet in the world - the Israeli Air Force F-35I Adir (which means Mighty One!) The F-35 is my favourite aircraft currently in existence - I bought this kit shortly after its appearance and have been waiting for an opportunity to crack into a decent build. The time has come! You don't see many of these so here's the full box tour: First of all - it's very big! that's an 18" wide mat the fuse halves are sitting on. There's some nice surface detail around the panels but the rest of the airframe is creamy smooth! Interior detail doesn't slouch either: Engine and full intake trunking with thinly cast guide vanes and engine detail - this will not be visible, of course There are two sprues of weapons, bay details and door hinges: The pylons are also included for Beast Mode, which I will of course be using! Again some nicely moulded details with a bit of flash clean up required. More interior: Weapons bays, doors and wheelwell interiors, no need for aftermarket here. While the details aren't superfine, they are interesting enough and should come up well under paint and washes. The stabilizers are much better engineered than the Kitty Hawk version (thank god!!) as are the tailfins below: Again the wings have some decent moulded details with a very smooth finish everywhere else. Clear parts are tinted and the canopy is seam free: Some PE parts are included along with some glossy masks for the RAM panel taping: Won't be needing those so much for painting but the taped areas are distinctly flatter in finish than the baked-on RAM coating. Instructions are clear and well-printed on an A4-sized landscape booklet: Decals are also nicely printed, include most stencils and knowing Italeri's recent releases, should go down very well. So that's what's in the box. Of course I had to get a few more bits to push the boat out a bit more...! Eduard Big Ed, not particularly expensive or overstuffed with details, but the cockpit looks very nice, if it was the right colour Also have a set of new resin wheels by Reskit and Eduard Brassin GBU-39 SDBs (new capability for the IAF's F-35s) Unfortunately I also spent a relative fortune (almost £30!) on these very disappointing decals - only stencils and serials for 140 Golden Eagles Sqn. I hoped it would have both squadrons included but astonishingly IsraDecal released the 116 Lions of the South Sqn set as a separate set for the same price. I was hoping to do the aircraft flown by 116 Sqn's deputy CO, 'Captain S.' (the only woman currently flying the F-35I): but they can get stuffed if they want another £30 out of me for the 4x lion decals alone Anyway...I'll be building this over a period of months, so it's a long-term project for me. While I know the aircraft isn't everyone's cup of tea, it certainly is mine and you're welcome to join in the fun! Cheers Alan
  3. I suppose we'll soon see - at the Nuremberg Toy Fair - the Italeri's Preview 2023 folder. So it's time to open a new dedicated thread. After 2022 (link), here are the first aviation reissues for 2023. Source: https://nowosci.plastikowe.pl/aktualnosci/zapowiedzi-italeri-styczen-2023/ Expected aircraft kit releases for January 2023 - 1/48 - ref. 2827 - Northrop F-5E Tiger II - ESCI reissue - 1/72 - ref. 1466 - Junkers Ju 87G-2 - reissue V.P.
  4. Massive disappointment that Film and Song was unsuccessful at Bunfight - so I'll build it here. A very late planned mission, sparked on a flimsy pretext. Where Eagles Dare, from this kit. An excuse to watch this again, after I've rescued Gen Carnaby. So a tight extraction plan.
  5. Whilst building model planes was my first hobby (after model railways that is), once Airfix started releasing tanks and warships I built them as well, and once their (oversized) Crusader arrived on the scene I started to build two groups - Europe and Desert. Once Fujimi entered the market I could build Valentines, Matildas, Panzers I and II, SdKfz 222 and 251, and the Airfix Grant and Panzer IV also added to the builds, but there were still gaps - the Airfix Sherman was the wrong model, there was no Panzer III until Esci and Matchbox produced one, and nobody was making the early British tanks such as the A9, A10 and A13 until I discovered Millicast. Even after that there were still no Italian AFV, and then I discovered these. Cheap and cheerful push fit intended for wargaming but with a bit of care and some halfway decent paintwork they look fine. The M13/40 has 15 parts and the Semovente 14 and you get two to a box. I bought 2 boxes of M13/40 as I was thinking of converting at least one of them to an earlier type but that remains stalled at the moment, and I built one OOB and used some surplus decs from a Dan Taylor sheet to represent a captured one used for a short while by the Aussies with very large Kangeroos painted all over it. You can see it at the bottom of this pic. Incidentally the captured ones were still in the grey green paint used on the Italian mainland by all accounts but the ones I will build here will be in desert colours like the rest of the early British tanks in the above pic - for the record Light Mk VIC, 2 x Matilda II, A9, A10 and A13. That leaves me with 2 of each type but I will only inflict one of each on you.😃 I was going to enter them in the Italian GB but they were issued after the cut-off date so if I have time I will throw them in here - they would be perfect for a "Blitz Build" but I would feel as if I were cheating as the assembly should only take half an hour or so. Of course painting would take rather longer if I go for one of the fancy schemes, and they do have some rather detailed decs if they don't disintegrate. Pete

  7. Hi, and welcome to my first Group Build. Thanks for visiting! I'm a recent returnee to the hobby, and recall building a lot of Italeri kits when I was younger. They had a great selection, and I have many fond memories of constructing mainly contemporary 80s-90s fighters. A particular favourite was the 1/72 Vought A-7, which was my first thought of a kit for this build. However the Starfighter caught my eye while online shopping. I've somehow never got around to building one, this issue had an Italian scheme, and I thought a recon variant with the Orpheus Pod was quite interesting. I understand it was originally an ESCI kit from 1981. It was also incredibly inexpensive, comparable with one of those small Airfix Vintage kits. A lot less than I spent on a light lunch in town today! The F-104G was colloquially known as the 'Spillone' or Hatpin in Italian service, and built under license by Fiat. Aeritalia built the later F-104S, also under license. The parts are quite simple, but with a nice delicacy to the detailing (ignoring the very simple AIM-9s). I'm planning to build it straight out of the box, keeping honest to the vintage of the kit and my childhood memories. The scheme I've chosen is A, Alternative 1: 28° Gruppo 'Streghe' (3° Stormo), Verona - Villafranca 1989. This gives a nice touch of colour with the high vis roundels, and is a nod to the kit's age. Looking forward to seeing everyone's builds progressing, thanks for reading. Cheers, Nick
  8. My first entry is Italeri’s 1/48 Hawk. Will be completed as an aircraft of the Fleet Requirements and Aircraft Direction Unit in the ‘Fly Navy’ 100 Years of Naval Aviation scheme. I have found some good info on FRADU Hawks on the following website. https://fradu.info/hawk/

  10. Hi all, Just moving this build over here as it wasn't getting done in time for the 'Entropy' GB on the forum. Current state....and its inspiration. Entropy_Italeri_F4J_UK_20 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Cheers, Dermot
  11. All of these CAD renders have been taken periodically over 2022, each vehicle has been modeled from separate parts items like the engines and gear boxes have been designed as single items, chassis frames, suspension, drive shafts, axles, door and other parts are separate parts (80 parts make up one of the vehicles) all designed for 3D printing. The parts and the vehicles were designed according to workshop manuals and individual component drawings, and a lot of help from owners of the real historic vehicle owners. Some are designed as conversions for the Italeri 109" Kits and before anyone asks Yes Mike @bootneck is aware of these and has helped me with the Series 3 Ambulance conversion. The next stage is to start test prints of the parts and once I'm happy with everything I am planning on making the files available for purchase buy others A full 17 CH 4 cylinder petrol engine Mike was happy when I sent him these images. Yes a full 3.5 Rover V8 engine Yes I have modeled the body door handles on the finished doors. The radio and vampire vehicles are void of any internal parts as I could not able to get anything on the equipment and considering it is still in service quite right too. The series 3 Ambulance body will be a conversion to the Italeri base Kit. I will post updates as I proceed with the test printing. Pete
  12. I needed to call into a local model and kit shop to pick up a couple of paints for an ongoing (forever pausing) build and during my wander around the store i came across this boxed set from Italeri. The store owner said he was selling them on for a customer that simply wasn’t going to build it and for a measly £3 they were mine. I don’t need another kit to build, I’ve more than enough either in my stash or being built to keep me going but for the bargain price of £3 (labelled as £25 from the same store!) I thought it would make for a good side project and diorama. I’ve not built anything like this before and so for I’m liking the scale and detail. Let’s see if I can do it justice!
  13. As I mentioned in the chat, I have a bunch of Italian fighters. If it's acceptable to the hosts, I will start a thread for all of them here and post them in the gallery singly if and when I get them finished. If not, let me know, and I will split the thread up accordingly. The two week extension will help! Anyhow, Sword and RS Models, and three Italeri kits that are ineligible for both the "Italian Job " (kits are too new) and "I feel deserted" (schemes are Mediterranean) GBs: The Sword comes in an incredible value double boxing. Here's the remainder of my first boxing plus another double: The first one built up nicely: I have also built the FROG and Supermodel versions: (The Sword is much, much better than either) The boxing has seven schemes; I am going to do two more from the box schemes and a light conversion back to an early one. The RS Model kit looks nice too; I just built their Caudron 714 and it was a fun build: I will get to the Italeri kits later (maybe!). (edit) Just remembered I've got a FROG Macchi 202 downstairs in the stash too!
  14. Having abandoned the Supermodel kit of the Fiat CR.32 due to unbuildable struts, I have obtained the Italeri boxing, which while mostly the original 1973 kit, has had some improvements. Moulding looks overall to be crisper, some cockpit detail in the form of a floor and control column and some sidewall details have been added and most importantly the horrible struts of indistinct length and but jointed to amorphous blobs on the wings have been replaced with much better items with locating pins. I expect to start this one tomorrow and progress should be rapid (🤞). I will be using the Supermodel decals for the Spanish machine as per my original build. I hope to make a better job of the camouflage this time as well. Box and sprue: Thanks for looking. AW
  15. I’ll join in with this. The Semovente was a self propelled anti tank gun based on the Fiat Ansaldo M13/40 medium tank chassis. It served in North Africa and during the Italian campaign. The model is an Italeri 2007 rebox of a 1975 ESCI kit. These old ESCI kits are rather nice and the quality well ahead of their time. It’s good that Italeri have rebox Ed many of them as there is a paucity of the tanks in the range from other kit makers. Anyway on to the kit. Two nice and crisp sand colour sprues. Nothing overly complex but clean and crisp. Not bad for nearly 50 year old moulds, though probably only around 30 or so when boxed. Four page instructions, some introductory information, a set of plastic tracks and a nice transfer sheet. With colour call outs for 4 versions, including one used by the Germans.
  16. My entry is 1980 re-release of the Italeri Crusader III. In addition also just picked up the Italeri Commonwealth Tank Troops box #308.
  17. This is a 2007 rebox by Italeri of ESCI’s 1975 kit. The Semovente M40-M41 was a self propelled gun version of the Italian Carro Armato M13/40 medium tank. It was a bit cramped but had an effective gun and was used by the Italians mainly in a divisional artillery and anti tank roles rather than the assault role of the German STUG vehicles. They were to reasonable effect through the Desert and Italian campaigns with some being used by the Germans post the Italian armistice. Two nice sand coloured sprues which are crisp and clear, details not all bad for a kit of its age. Instructions over a few pages, brief intro, plastic tracks and a nice transfer sheet. Options for the desert and Italian campaigns.
  18. Hello everybody, I'd like to enter my build of the immortal Bell helicopter, it will be finished as one of the many examples used by the Italian Air Force Helicopter School at Frosinone. The base kit is quite an hodgepodge because I had a started Italeri Sioux AH.1, where I robbed the engine, part of the tubular structure and both rotors to scratchbuild an AB47J. That is unfortunately a stalled project after the issue of the LF Model kit, but that's another story... Then I remembered I also had somewhere the horrendous Pavla short-run kit, so I thought I could try picking some of its useable parts and make a complete airframe. You can see here below the raw materials: in the last few days I assembled the cabin from the Italeri kit replacing some parts I had robbed for the AB47J and then I tackled the photoetched tailboom 😱 The more I look at it, the more it seems a bad approach to remedy the coarseness of the Italeri kit, but in this case I had no choice. It is hopelessly flat and nearly impossible to assemble straight and true without bending some brace here and there. I hope it will get better once painted. Thanks for looking!
  19. A bit late to the party, as I don't do a lot of modelling during the summer period 🙂 But let's see where I can get in 2 months time with this "Italian Classic": Italeri's Vespa. The original tooling is from Protar, Scalemates dates this back to end '70s. The kit has also seen an earlier repop by Italeri and one by Revell. Looking online, I came across some great builds of this kit. As I mostly build aircraft/helicopters, something of this size - and on 2 wheels - will definitely be different! Here is the kit's contents, I hope to start the build shortly: Thanks for looking, Patrick
  20. Bought this Tornado at a charity event. Thought I will build it out of the box, no pressure to detail, no PE, no fuss. Since my order for the pilots and decal are on the way from UK, I might as well start the build. The details of this old kit contrasted so much to newer ones like the Eduard desert babe in my stash. Building this kit brought back memories of those long long time ago days when I was still much younger. Simple cockpit assembly.
  21. I found this in the stash while looking for something else. I think this was originally an ESCI boxing from the mid 70s although this boxing is from around 2003 according to Scalemates. The ESCI kits are lovely and way ahead of their day for the time, well engineered, lovely moulding and good fit. So this should be fun. one large and one small sand coloured sprues and a sprue with track sections. The latter will take time but will look better than the usual ‘rubber band’ tracks of that era. typical Italeri instructions. with colour call outs and transfers for four versions. One of which is for the 23rd Armoured Brigade in the Western Desert as well as one for an unspecified unit in Gazala.
  22. I a long ago wanted to make this armoured car. M3 Scout was closed by an armour by Army of Defensive of Israel. I will use the old model of firm Italeri. A model is a bit begun, but not enough 25%.😉
  23. Ok, so my F-117 was issued (just) too late to qualify, as were my Spitfire Mk IX, Macchi G.55 Veltro and various tanks, but at the bottom of my stash I found this. Scalemates say it was first issued in 1986 but I did not stumble across it until the early 1990's and I suspect I was toying with the idea of converting it to an A-3B Skywarrior when I bought it, but then realised that would be far too much work, so it went back in the stash until the end of 2021 when the Vietnam GB arrived on the scene. I remembered seeing one of the EW versions in the film BAT*21 ( not a very good simulation I seem to recall) and also that I had seen a conversion set a few years previously, but when I checked they were no longer available. I did however find that Italeri had reissued it as the RB version in 1998 and managed to pick one up cheap on a certain well known auction site - I suppose one advantage of the type being little known, and I have posted a pic of the result in the Inspiration Gallery. The kit is a bit of a mixed bag - fairly simple to build with an adequately detailed cockpit, but "see-through" engine nacelles and there is a bit of a problem with the plastic on the fuselage halves that could be difficult to hide on an NMF finish, but more on that later. Pete
  24. Hello Britmodellers, Italeri's Mirage 2000C with a few extra bits and decals to make a 2000P. Thanks for watching! Luka
  25. Joining you with this kit, with originated in 1979. Costing £18 at IPMS Gloucester show in 2022 Offering these options - which I'm not using. Parts. And leftover ski parts from an Airfix build. Enquiries have been made about a set of decals for Night Fright. If that happens before the paint stage, this project could change direction. And my new Airfix C-47 build, which originated the skis
