For this GB, I am building Horizon Models 1/72 Mercury-Redstone rocket. I will be building it to represent MR-2 which blasted off on 31st January 1961 to take Ham the Astrochimp on a 16minute 39second sub-orbital flight reaching a maximum apogee of 210km. More info can be found on Ham and MR-2 on the links below. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury-Redstone_2 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ham_(chimpanzee)

Horizon Models Mercury Atlas 1/72nd-Big Joe 1 Included with the display in the enclosure is a piece of flown material recovered from the capsule. The enclosure is illuminated with an LED light, the battery pack and wiring tucked away in the base. The model is a lovely kit to build, and I will look forward to building more variants in the future. One thing that needs rectifying is the colour of the capsule. The only titanium colour I had to hand was gold titanium and I intended to shoot a fine coat of a darker metallic over it. I was in such a hurry to rip off the masking to see how the paint job looked that I clean forgot!!!!. About a month later after finishing the model I was looking through my reference photos and spotted another mistake. I had followed the kit instructions for the decal placements and they are slightly wrong as to the placement of the Atlas serial Number “10D”. The kit instructions have you centre the lettering but looking at the photos the 10 is one side of the vernier housing, and the D off to the right.

Hi, this is a project i already started a while ago: The Enforcement Droid 209 or ED-209 for short. This is from the Movie Robocop. Good old times when Special Effects were not just CGI but more craftsmenship like this Stop-Motion animated Giant. This Kit is made from PVC in 1/9 Scale. Out of Production since ages. I could find one of the original Kits on Ebay for a halfway acceptable price. But still a lot of wood due to the shipping costs from the US. ...to be continued.

F1 qualifying finished Test Match Special on the radio. The Vuelta on the iPad. I am ready to go. Plan is to finish before the start of tomorrows race, My entry to this group build will be a pair of Horzon Models Mercury Capsules. The boxing contains two complete kits, with etch allowing you to build any of the Mercury Capsules. The two, I will be building are Mercury Redstone 4 Liberty Bell 7 Gus Grisson Mercury Atlas 6 Friendship 7 John Glenn Both these craft are “Window” version of the capsule, this means I won't need to play around with the etch to produce a the “Porthole” version, making for an easier build. I have the Mercury Redstone kit winging its way to me as I type, I will do the “Porthole” conversion on that kit when I build Alan Shepard's Mercury Redstone rocket. Liberty Bell 7 will be completed in launch configuration with the launch tower, Glenn's Friendship 7 will be completed in Orbit configuration.

I received my order from Horizon Models yesterday. They look very good. I ordered the Mercury Capsules, Mercury Atlas and Mercury Redstone. The plan is to have the 5 Man in Space models in 1/72. I ordered the Real Space Gemini Titan but haven't received it yet. Tomorrow! So that leaves the Saturns to be sorted out in the next few years (my MIS collection will be a multi year project). I am very pleased with Horizon as far as their models (fingers crossed, more kits please) but their packaging not so much. The shipping box was a bit flimsy. And despite the fragile label I am sure it was on the bottom of a pile (certainly not their fault). I shouldn't complain too much because shipping was only $8 from Australia. Despite how bad it looks, there was no damage to the kits.

Hi I've got back to the UK and have started a long assembly line of Dinosaur species. I plan to simply build all the kits and then go into a full paint production line afterwards. This is the 3rd in the line (my Brontosaurus/Apatosaurus and Tyrannosaurus are already on this part of the forum) - its a resin copy of the old Horizon Models Stegosaurus which I believe to be way out of production - mine is a mould copy of the original bought for £10 from the far east. With the aid of boiling water I have made a few alterations to the pose, having twisted the tail about and bent the neck to the side, and prized the mouth and jaw open wider. Brachiosaurus will follow next John
