  1. Hey So I'm looking at getting one of these 2. it'll be my first - and I can't afford a decent airbrush straight away either so these will do for priming and large areas haha. Which one would people recommend? I know they're the same, one with tank - one without. Is it worth the extra money for the tank? I have researched it a bit but would rather find out first hand. I read this review (http://airfixtributeforum.myfastforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=460&t=35371#p478405) and it seems reasonable. http://www.amazon.co.uk/FoxHunter-Airbrush-Compressor-Double-Airbrushes/dp/B004XP7K9W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1395171731&sr=8-1&keywords=AS186 or http://www.amazon.co.uk/FoxHunter-KMS-Airbrush-Compressor-Airbrushes/dp/B0054Q384A/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1395171642&sr=8-2&keywords=foxhunter+airbrush Thanks people
  2. Hi, I'm looking for help obtaining a scan or webpage address that has assembly instructions for the Trumpeter 1/35 00378 Geschutzwagen Tiger for 17cm K72 kit. I won one on eBay that was being sold minus instructions. Usually the Hobby Search website would save the day, but not this time. http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10062489 Only a couple of pages with no assembly instructions. I'm having trouble getting help via the Trumpeter website but will persevere. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Xtracrylix Help

Here is a picture of my current spit project. I am doing desert cammo. After a few test sprays of Vallejo I decided that their colours are way off. I normally use Tamiya. Having bought the book on modelling their 1/32 Spit I decided that I could not go far wrong by using the same paint so I splashed out for some Xtracrylix *without reading the reviews). A thought I could not go wrong as a lot the guys seem to swear buy the stuff. Wrongly or rightly I always fork out for a like-for-like thinner. In other words my thinner comes from the same paint manufacturer my first hour was spent trying to get the right viscosity and cleaning my airbrush every few minutes. This stuff clogs better than mud drying on a hot summer day. I got around this my adding in some X-20A. On another site someone said they uses a bit of acetone (not sure about that on a plastic model????), Having got to the point where I was happy to lay down a few coates (about 1 hour later) here is the result. There a light and dark areas (no pre-shaiing was done). Its like the stuff wont stick to the model. Before I return a very large range of colour to H's with a sour note would anyone care to venture an opinion. The mid-stone also seems a bit orange I did use a bit off Halfords plastic whit primer on the nose The Kit is the Eduard MK IX
  4. Hi all Those of you that know me will be aware that i build Airliners, 99.9% of the time.... I work at City of Norwich Aviation Museum and i have decided id like to give it a go at building a few of the displays. So i went into my local model shop and came home with a 1/144 Academy Phantom. Ive no idea what the kit's like in terms of accuracy or if its even the correct version for what i want!!! So i decided id like to do as XV426 Phantom FRG.2. We have its cockpit. It was scrapped in 1999, built in 1969, an old one... This is the paint scheme id like to do it in. So what colours will i need and are there decals out there for this paint scheme? And where can i get the reg? Sorry if i sound like a fool, but i know next to nothing about these fast jet thingys! Thanks Bradley
  5. I'm hoping someone out there can help me! I've come back to scale modelling after a 30+ year hiatus and am loving it! My first attempt was a 1/72 Airfix Mosquito (see my profile pic), which I brush painted. I started reading around the subject and learnt loads of techniques which I enjoyed trying out. Next stage was clearly to move to airbrushing so I searched the t'interweb and ended up buying a Badger 200nh single action suction feed airbrush. As I'd already forked out a load setting up my work bench I couldn't justify a compressor so I'm using canned air for the time being. The problem is that I simply can't get any control out of the brush! Instead of controllable fine lines, I get a random sequence of large wet splodges, nothing but air and then a very thin dusting of colour. I tried in vain to pre-shade the panel lines on my 1/72 Airfix Sabre (using gloss black, that someone had recommended in an article I read) and pretty much painted the whole model. Nothing like it looked like in the article with nice narrow lines over the panel lines. In a review of the 200nh, the reviewer sketched a little smiley face no wider than a scalpel. I must be doing something wrong! I tried spraying while twiddling the needle adjusting screw and that didn't seem to make any real difference. Seemed to be simply on or off. Are you supposed to be able to vary the intensity of the air? I've ended up using a whole small tin of Badger air and half a big tin with no meaningful results. Is the tinned air the issue? Perhaps it's the paint? I'm using Humbrol enamels thinned with Humbrol thinners. I've read the ratio of paint to thinners should be 50:50, to a milky consistency. But are we talking full fat or skimmed?! Or even gold top?! Dosing thinners is easy with a pipette, but I'm struggling to dose the paint. Any tips? Could it be that the mix is too thick? or thin? I'm using the glass jar with siphon pipe but perhaps a Badger metal cup would be easier? I'm getting good at stripping down the brush & cleaning it and to a layman's eye, there's no apparent damage. So I'm feeling pretty disillusioned at the mo - got a new toy but don't know how to play with it. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks in anticipation for a bit of inspiration Beardylong (and the irony is I haven't got a beard any more!)
  6. Help please, is there a list of lancaster Names and codes for aircraft that took part in the Tirpitz raids ?
  7. Ok, this is starting to drive me crazy. I've been brush-painting Humbrol enamel gloss brunswick green onto a fairly large area of an Airfix "Beam Engine" (a steam engine used for pumping water out of mines), but the paint is like a magnet for dust! Even as I'm brushing on the paint I can see a few bit of dust settling, and when I come back after letting it dry the whole thing is just coated in dust. I've tried sanding off the dust and repainting, I had the same problem, I sanded again and tried leaving the model under a box while the paint dried and it still came out "dusty". I've worked with matt enamel for the most part until now, and not really had this trouble, I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I'm using a Revell Marten hair paintbrush, I thoroughly mix the paint in the tin (thought the gloss green never looks like it needs it), brush straight from the tin, and the room doesn't seem all that dusty. I've seen kits built where the gloss finish is like a highly polished brand-new car, a mirror-like sheen and not a blemish on it - any advice on how I can get this kind of effect on my kit?
  8. Hi guys, I was wandering if anyone had any idea where I could purchase a 1/72nd F-4K in Royal Navy colours. I was thinking of making a diorama of the deck from HMS Ark Royal (R09). I have managed to find Wessex's, Buccaneers, Sea Kings and Fairey Gannet's but struggled to find a suitable F-4. I will put pictures of the completed build up when I have finished it. Thanks
  9. Help! My Spit Va was coming on nicely. I was losing my fear of the spray gun and somehow worked out the consistency of mixing Tamiya acrylics with X-20A. Then DISASTER! I wanted to seal the underside which I had panted with XF-21. I sprayed a light coat of Plasti-kote Super MATT. The "Sky Green" now looks wrong and blotchy??? I have a tin of Plasti-kote Super - should I have used this. Everyone talks about using Johnson's Polish but as we all know you can't buy it in the UK. Life was easy when I worked in enamels as a boy. Sigh. A tin of Paint also lasted longer. My first attempt at spray painting was a disaster. I thinned the paint too much. Thank goodness for Tesco's Everyday Cleaner. I was able to start again. Now on my second bottle of Tamiya things were looking up until I sealed it. By the way. Working in 1/48 how long should a bottle of paint last if its a main colour. Yes I know that there are lots of variables, but some rule of thumb would be nice. BUILD GRINNDED TO A HALT – PLEASE HELP Thanks
