  1. Looks like Fly is working on a 1/32nd Sukhoi Su-7 "Fitter-A" kit. Source: https://www.facebook.com/208070375871052/photos/a.208144655863624.54782.208070375871052/1857491310928942/?type=3&permPage=1 V.P.
  2. Back in 1925 the newly created Regia Aeronautica signed a contract with Breda that created a flight school on Bresso airfield on the northern outskirt of Milan. That school trained young pilots using SVA 5 airplanes built in the nearby Breda factory were my grandfather was working as an apprentice. When I was a child he used to tell me a lot of stories about how they built motor cowlings, wings, carved wood to build fuselage, test wings resistance, start-up engines by hand... He used also to draft these planes teaching me about all the different components and I believe this is the reason why many years later I took the decision to become a pilot and an aerospace engineer. So, when I found this model at a local model fair, I was really excited also because decals described exactly one of those Breda school planes that my grandfather built and told me about. The model is the 1/48 Fly... I would say not an easy built. Painting has been done using airbrush with Tamiya acrylics plus special pigments for wood effect (first time I'm using them). I'm not 100% satisfied of the result, maybe I will buy another one and try to do a better job. Here you are the pictures, as usual any comment or suggestion is more than welcome. Cheers Andy
  3. Dear fellow Britmodellers, this is Fly Models' 1/72 Ilyushin Il-10, "Soviet Service", built from the box. There have been a few comments about accuracy issues on this kit in the 'Rumourmonger' thread : In my humble opinion, the nose section looks undernourished, being about 2mm to slim and lacking the distinctive curavture of the original. The windscreen sits a bit too high, about 1mm. The placement of exhaust rows does not match plans either. Despite these issues, the kit builds into a well-detailed replica and does look like an Il-10 to me. A detailled build review will be featured in an upcoming edition of Scale Aviation Modeller International. The model was painted using Gunze/Mr.Hobby acrylics. All photogrpahs by Wolfgang Rabel. Thanks for your interest, greetings from Vienna.
  4. Hi folks While it's a pretty accurate shape with good surface texture the kit is very much 'short run' quality in terms of parts fit. It's ok, but surely a subject deserving of a first line manufacturer in 1/32. Merry Christmas to all Britmodellers! Regards J A.
  5. Hi everyone My mosquito has been put to one side for a little while whilst I'm waiting for some oils to arrive from emodels so I thought I'd make a start on my Hurricane. I've seen some build reviews of the FLY Hurricane so I knew it was going to be a challenge to build but I didn't realise just how much, I think I've managed to break almost every part that I've removed from the sprues, the parts all require alot of clean up and the instructions are very vague at best, but if you want an accurate 1/32 Hurricane then it's the only game in town.....And I want a 1/32 Hurricane. I've made a start on the cockpit and my plan is to build as much as I can before I paint and detail it, it's gonna be a challenge but I think it will look ok once finished (fingers crossed). The Mosquito put safely to one side..It will get finished in due course. This took me about 3 hours tonight and as you can see the detail is very soft as is the plastic. I drilled out all the locating holes in the frame work and once I had it together I've filled the joints with my homebrew plastic filler which will hopefully give the structure some strength. I won't be doing much tomorrow as were off to Launceston for the Christmas market. Cheers all Iain
  6. After its SVA.5 early (http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234934773-ansaldo-sva-5-early-italian-reconnaissance-fighter-172-fly/?hl=ansaldo) and late (http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234934248-ansaldo-sva-5-late-italian-reconnaissance-fighter-172-fly/?hl=ansaldo), Fly is to release the 1/48th two-seats trainer and recce versions from this aircraft, the Ansaldo S.V.A.9 and S.V.A.10 - ref. 48010 & 48011. 7. They hope to have them available for Telford, where they will have a stall. Box art for HC.2 and HU.5
  8. My latest effort. This FLY's 1/32 Hurricane IIC finished as nightfighter BE581 JX-E "Night Reaper" flown by 1 Sqn ace Flt Lt Karel Kuttelwascher DFC during operations from RAF Tangmere. I found this a tricky kit to build. As mentioned in many reviews, the landing gear bay was very awkward and had to be sanded to within an inch of its life to ensure a fit. It fits snugly against the frame of the cockpit and took a lot of fettling to make the centre lower wing section fit. The outer wing fit wasn't too easy either. Finished with a brush and Xtracrylix Ocean Grey and Dark Green on the top, Revel gloss black on the underside. The decals are very nice went on a treat.

  10. Hi, as I'm sure there are many Wessex friends around here, I just wanted to share with you this great HAR.2 build by my friend Akira Watanabe: http://nabe3saviation.web.fc2.com/modelWes.html As I'm no Wessex expert myself I can't comment on the detail however the execution and the work put in and the final finish look stunning. Cheers Jeffrey (just to be clear, this isn't my model, it's Akira-san's, just posting it here)

  12. Hello all, Here is another refugee from the recent Airliner group build. This is the Fly 1/144 kit boxed by Karaya with markings for TWA. Those interested can find the build thread here... The kit itself is simple to build and has a bit of scope for improvements, some of which I've covered in the build. Likewise, the decals from Ray Charles at 26decals are easy to use and give a nice simple, clean colour scheme. One thing I've left off is the very pale grey anti-glare panel beneath the windscreen. The decal didn't work for me so I'll paint it on at a later date (ie "never"). So there it is, one of three almost completed. Feel free to comment, query, critique as you see fit. Many thanks Jeff

  14. Here's my entry. Fly DC-9-32 and Iberia old livery decals from BOA. This is quite exciting because it's my first airliner ever and I haven't attempted NMF since the cold war.
  15. Possibly.. no actually, my most ambitious project to date is the Fly Wessex. Initial thoughts are the external details are so good, the test fit of fuselages show this is not a Tamiya shake and bake. Lots of different materials to master, resin, plastic, PE and paper. My father was with 72 squadron in 1976 and I remember the long hot summer with the sounds of the Wessex and Puma flying around Odiham which is why I chose the 72 squadron option. So after 1 almost full day a start has been made. It will be completely OOB perhaps with some added wiring but what colour to finish her in? Grey and green or green and green? Final paint is a long way off I think though. Starting on the internal ribbing Day one complete but little to be seen. Each spar is individual.. Going to be a big beast when finished So lets see how far I progress this week with a few hours in the evening..
  16. Hello modeller friends, FLY Models caused quite a stir when they released their 1/32 Hurricane in April 2016. By a general consensus on the modelling forums, it's the best Hurricane on the market: accurate shape, good dimensions, adequate surface detail and unbeatable bang for the buck, etc… One question remains: HOW DOES IT BUILD? Strangely there are but a very few WIP's (one on this very forum) on the internet for such a popular model. Furthermore they all stopped still after a few instalments. What happened? Is there a monster glitch out there waiting for the unwary modeller? I decided to find out and share my experience with you. Before starting up, let me tell you that I've never been interested in the Hurricane as a plane and that I've never built a Hurricane in all my modelling years. That is before a friend showed me the FLY kit he just bought . I was unexplainably drawn to the box and before long I was cutting up the sprues, dry-fitting the parts … and buying the kit back from my friend. So let the build begins. First, the box with the 'meh' painting... … and the all-important documentation, excellent references I got from another friend. Most of it sadly OOP: Next episode: Dry-fitting the parts Until then, Cheers, Quang
  17. Hello everyone! Here is my latest model - this time it's Willy Messerschmitt's personal Taifun. I used Fly's 1/72 kit, photoetched parts from Brengun and Techmod's set that contained decals for D-IMTT. I did not experience any great troubles with assembling the plastic. Some trimming was required to make sure that cabin fits into the fuselage. Also proper dry fitting is required before fuselage and wing are sticked together. Tamiya XF-25 was used to represent RLM-63. I think that is a very good match. Red band on the tail is painted. Model was finished with Future. I've always liked the look of this small and flawless aircraft - so I'm very happy now having it on the shelf! And a familty foto with a younger brother (Italeri's Bf-109 built years ago). Nice weekend to everyone! Dennis

  22. Hi everyone I am looking for some Sura rockets for my Fly Model 1:48 Strikemaster (the Omani option). I know this is a big-time long shot, but if I remember right, someone was able to get a set from a Hunter from someone on this site. If someone can help me on this Lord of the Rings-type quest that would be great, thanks from Josh.

  25. I've just finished this on Friday after getting it at Telford 2012. I had no idea this was on the market or due out so was very pleased to see a pile of them and a built one on display on that stand. Like a western gun draw the cash was out and I was well chuffed. Anyway I got started straight after the Heritage JP3 build whilst in the groove. I was quite impressed by the cockpit although there are a couple of anomalies but hey ho its a 1/48 JP5 that's mass produced, I really didn't like the side panels I'd prefer it if it was molded rather than a separate panel. The kit itself fly's together and I had no real issues at all, except the canopy was quite cloudy but came up nicely with Klear, I nearly took the plunge to polish it but it didn't need it. I had a big issue with one wing join, one was fine the other was miles out standing proud and took a lot of sanding then rescribing. The seats are a very tight fit together when you get them in and with the throttle box as well it's all very snug (probably like the real thing) and you have to be careful that when the seats are drying that they don't get encouraged to point inwards towards each other before the glue is set. I've now found out the instrument cowling is wrong for an RAF version but this can easily be addressed if you want. I hand wrote (with my artist pen) the MDC on then Kleared it to seal it in. Gloss appliance white and Revell aqua red and Xtracrylix LAG with a blob of metalcote for the exhaust. I think the MLG is way too big as compared to the Heritage JP3 they are a million miles apart and the Heritage one looks right with comparison with photo's. I'd like to measure the JP5's real wheels and tyres to see what they should be. I did cut 1mm off all 3 legs as otherwise it looks like its on stilts. I put in the nose lights with the crystal jobbies from LittleCars but then the clear bit wouldn't fit from the kit, so in the mean time I've put some clearfix on it but I'm coming back to fit the lens. The seats are ok and you obviously cut off the extra bit from the headbox if you want an RAF version. Walk panels matted off and I left off the air intake one as its way out of proportion, so painted it instead, apart from all this I enjoyed it.
