  1. Well this is my first monster build of the year and hopefully a real Mojo stimulus build…..as the old modelling mojo has taken a bit of a hit recently…….though it hasn’t stopped me from growing the stash! I have wanted to build a F-16I Sufa for quite sometime, though I’m not sure what possessed me to for this monster! This isn’t the first time I’ve built a 1/32nd beast, around 40 years ago I built the Hasegawa version….which I still have packed away somewhere…… a little bit worse for wear! The box is huge and packed solid with lots of lovely plastic as well as some PE and brass bits. There is a choice of 4 schemes, well squadrons to choose from, which one I haven’t quite decided on yet. You even get a lovely large poster as well, which on the back of is the painting/decal guide, not the easiest to handle. ….. and yes there are extra AM bits to go with her of course! The main one is Zactomodels resin F-16 NSI “Small Mouth Intake”. This is a beautifully cast seem-less replacement intake for this model and will certainly save all the hassle of sorting out intake seems! With the cockpit I resisted the urge to replace it with resin but will add Quinta Studio’s gorgeous 3D decals , the first time I’ve used these in 1/32nd. The detailing on them is stunning, even the knobs on the side panels even have a tiny white position marker on them! 😍 The kit exhaust is quite nicely done but a replacement resin one will look much nicer. Though they did suffer a wee bit of damage in transit, I will ResKit would use larger boxes! Same goes for the wheels, these resin replacements will look much better. And finally (for now) some Zactomodels AIM-120 ARMAAM’s, they are an improvement to the kit ones. I am looking forward to this build, it should be nice and straightforward (would like one for a change), I’ve done some test fits with the new resin intake and all looks good there. For sanity’s sake I may leave out the resin wheel wells….no one will be picking up this model!
  2. Back in the 1980s and as part of its modernisation efforts, the Republic of Singapore Air Force chose the General Dynamics F-16 to replace its fleet of aging Hawker Hunters. Under the Peace Carvin I FMS program, the United States sold a total of 8 F-16s (4 As and 4 Bs) to the RSAF. These aircraft were received by the RSAF and were initially based at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona where the Air Force sent a detachment of pilots and ground crew to train under the USAF. On 9 January 1990, these 8 Vipers arrived in Singapore and were inducted into 140 Squadron "Osprey". This is the Hasegawa F-16A kit built with HobbyDecal turned metal pitot and AoA probes. Decals came from Siam Scale but were not too good so I had to use some of the decals from the kit. The scheme here represents one of the jets as the arrived in Singapore with the old-style "yin-yang" roundel. This was quickly replaced with the modern "lion-head" roundel. This was built as part of BM's Viper GB. Build thread can be found here: Mark
  3. Last year I picked up a group builds worth of F-16s on ebay. I first got an ESCI Viper just to get the ground crew set with it. Then a mixed bag of 2 more ESCI and one Monogram kit followed, so on with build. The first three became Dutch, Belgian and Norwegian Vipers earlier this year. Here with my previous Dutch F-16 and Academy Bentwaters Aggressor. But the fourth stayed in the box. My plan for the last one was to build a Weasel. Then I found that the decals I have are for a Spangdahlem F-16C, not the later Wild Weasel. I have a Spang F-4G Weasel to build in Euro One camo so the F-16 will sit nicely with her. So the plan is to convert the ESCI A model to a C, rescribe the panels and add the shark mouth decals. To my mind the shape is pretty good. So the aim is something like this When I built the others I tidied up the cockpit so this is what is in the box The rear stabilisers are coming off to be replaced by the scratch built Everdrenn sheets ones. They can then be angled upwards rather than the moulded on early A model ones. The tanks are from an Academy kit but I think I have ESCI ones too. And now toying with the idea of cutting off the slats. Flaps are already separate. And maybe the airbrakes too So let’s see what this one turns out like. Thanks for looking in
  4. Folks.... need some advice: Got a 'need' to build an early F-16, either an A, or A+ / MLU machine, it's not particularly important as to which one of those nor the nationality as decals are pretty easily available. Really need / want the best or most accurate kit in 1:72. I seem to recall that the RoG kit from 2000 and all it's subsequent re-releases was supposed to be a very good A / MLU, just wondered what you guys think about it ? Over to you, thanks in advance. Ian.
  5. Why are Revell's F-16 two seater so hard to find and overpriced in the USA?
  6. This kit is my first official post of 2021( I have finished a bunch of 1/48 vehicles and figures, but this is my first wing thing) I should call it Lazarus as this thing has been resurrected from the dead multiple times. It started as a Thunderbirds livery, but the white paint started cracking to the point I had to strip it completely. Then something clouded the canopy and I had to refinish/polish it back to something barely acceptable. Then a barn cat found its way in the house and the pitot, landing gear and tail had to be repaired. On and on and on. I have a rule that I never leave a book or model unfinished. But...I decided to try something different using my cricut to cut some patterns. A few days late for 4-1-21, but hope you enjoy.
  7. With 'Shark' aggressor scheme. Decals courtesy of Twobobs. This is my third completed model and after painting and trying to pick out panel lines on this one, I'm learning of the need for more patience in surface preparation. This probably would've been so much nicer with better sanding and filling before I committed to paint and decals, and that's a lesson I can take into the next one.
  8. In celebration of the Royal Danish Air Force 70 years anniversary on the 1st of October, the Danes revealed a F-16 in the have glass colours of the future RDAF F-35. Here she is together with her mate in “Dannebrog” scheme, a great looking couple wouldn’t you agree! (all photos by Flyvevåbnets Fototjeneste/ Flyverkommandoen) Link to the original press release here: https://www2.forsvaret.dk/nyheder/nationale_opgaver/Pages/F-16FORKLÆDTSOMF-35.aspx English article here: https://theaviationist.com/2020/10/01/danish-f-16-gets-have-glass-grey-paint-its-the-same-that-will-be-applied-to-the-rdaf-f-35s/ In case you are looking for the FS-paint codes, they are available here: Let me know please if further translation from Danish is required! Cheers Johnny b
  9. At some point I'd like to make a 527 AS F-16 as based at Bentwaters, all too briefly, in the late 80s. I believe they were block 30 F-16Cs; can anyone tell me if there is a suitable 1/48 kit to represent one? Would any F-16C kit do or are the different 'block' versions quite obviously different?
  10. As there are no group builds currently in progress that I am equipped to enter and fail to meet the deadline, as I’ve missed the Spitfire STGB and don’t have the correct mark of Spitfire for the Battle of Britain 80th (which I really should be entering), I’ve decided to do something, hopefully, a little different. Inspired by some great pictures here I thought I might finally get round to doing an F-16 I’ve had in the stash for ages. So using this kit: I‘m going to try and create something like this, taken by Kevin Wills and published on www.globalaviationresource.com Here’s a shot of the kit parts (obviously I once made a start on this kit as a few bits have been painted white), and the kit decals (sadly a bit damaged from too long in a damp garage) and some aftermarket etched brass as the kit will need to be updated (why do I do this? I’m rubbish at using etch and superglue!) a close up of the etch and the decals I’ll be using to do an RJAF jet If I’m to get a model looking even remotely like the picture on Global Aviation Resource is going to be a challenge, and I really ought to try and give myself a deadline - maybe the end of October? Possibly November? But probably December!!
  11. Hello! Today I present to you my newest model of Lockheed F-16C Fighting Falcon in 1/72 scale. The model was created from the Polish MisterCraft set, which is a very weak set. I modified the model and after the modification it has a new pilot's seat, completed gaps in the main landing gear, a new engine nozzle as well as improved geometry and wing mounting. The model received the livery of the 445th Flight Test Squadron, Edwards AFB, California, February 2010.
  12. Hello, Here is my first post as an amateur modeller, this was my 8. finished project. I am aware of some major problems but I would like to hear your comments and advices. Turkish air force specific decals (some service markings and tail crest) are printed by me -first attempt so not the best quality-, other decals are oob. Since decal paper was transparent I had to paint the areas as white which will have decals on top (except tail vulture crest), worst part of printing own decals In the last photo you can see one of my previous projects - modified Revell F-16 Solotürk -
  13. Since couple of years I was busy with 3 view artworks of various F-16 Vipers. Now the time has come to bring them alive... In this thread I will summarise the Viper versions I am planning to build. The content will be extended depending on my performance for new artworks 🙂 Here is the initial list of Vipers I am planning to build: 1. 841220 F-16C Block25C - 57th Wing 64th Aggressor - Nellis AFB: The "Work In Progress" report has started here... 2. 860269 F-16C Block32D - USAF Weapon School - 57th Wing 64th Aggressor Squadron - Nellis AFB: 3. 851418 F-16C Block25F - 57th Adversary Tactics Group 64th Aggressor Squadron - Nellis AFB: More Vipers will be added to this list soon 🙂 Serkan
  14. Hello everyone Whilst I am a couple of days adrift for the 6th June, I present my 1:72 F-16AM in the magnificent 75th Anniversary markings of FA-124 of 349 Squadron, Belgian Air Force. Kit was the Revell Stingers F-16, with of course Syhart decals which went down wonderfully. Paints were a mix of Italeri, AK Interactive for the exhaust (which was my best attempt yet) MiG and Vallejo. I scratch built the static dischargers from toothbrush bristles. I had the pleasure of going to the Belgian Airforce Day on 23rd June 2019 and saw this beast from about 2 metres away as it went past on the taxiway! Many congratulations to the paintshop!
  15. Hi All Here are some photos of my Tamiya 1/48 F-16 built up as an Aggressor aircraft based at Nellis AFB. The Tamiya F-16 is about as nice a kit as you can get in 1/48 (certainly better than the GWH F-15E I just finished), but I added some additional details, which if I'm honest probably weren't worth it: Aires F-16C/N Cockpit - although the detail is amazing, the fit of the resin cockpit in the kit was pretty poor. I had to thin down the kit parts so much to get it to fit, so I suspect it wasn't designed for the Tamiya kit despite being sold as such. Also since so little of the cockpit is actually visible I'm not sure all that work was necessary Aires F-16C Wheel bays - again I'm not sure they were meant for this kit despite what the packaging says and since they aren't that visible from most angles I should've probably skipped them and stuck with the kit parts Aires F-16 exhaust nozzle - this was a drop in replacement for the kit parts and is so much more detailed that I think it was worth it! Aside from the Aires resin pieces I also used a mask kit from DN models (excellent) and TwoBobs decals (also excellent). I chose this scheme partly because I found a lot of good photos of this aircraft (85-418) and partly because it doesn't have multi-colour walkway lines so I didn't have to worry about lining up the camo colours with the decals The ordinance under the wings is from Meng, specifically from their recent US Air-to-Air missile sets. These are really nicely moulded one piece missiles, and the decals are also very good. The only changes I made were the blue inert missile stripes which were painted on since the Meng set comes with the yellow/brown live missile decals. The ACMI pod is from the Tamiya kit. The paints were a mix of Vallejo and AK Interactive acrylics - I used the TwoBobs decal sheet to find the FS numbers and tried to match the acrylics as close as I could. The TwoBobs decals were excellent - perfect colour, minimal film and they settled down very well with some decal solution. They were also tough enough to withstand some poking to get them to go into the panel lines. Even the tiny name decals on the canopy are easily legible. They even included the tiny star decal for the HUD surround, With a little bit of decal solution, they conformed to the tail piece really well. The Meng missiles are really impressive for 1/48 plastic pieces - if you are looking for additional missiles I recommend this set. Thanks for looking!
  16. Hi all here is my recently finished 1:48 Italeri F-16 (2786) I finished it in the markings of a Portuguese Air Force F-16AM markings are 20 Years of F-16 in Portuguese Service by Model Maker Decals Mr Hobby Color paints used H305,H306,H307 and H308 For main colours plus Tamiya paints for minor parts An enjoyable build despite some fit issues with the undercarriage Thank you for looking and enjoy Happy Modelling
  17. After a little research, can I assume I'd be correct in saying that Dutch F-16s are the following greys? FS36118 FS36270 FS36375 However, as it's 1/48 I'm intending, and I am terrible at handpainting, I want to use rattle cans for all of these. Does anyone know which BS number equivalents I'd need as I cannot find any spray paint companies listing FS numbers.
  18. This is my 1/48 Tamiya F-16C Block 52 Viper dressed up in the markings of the Republic of Singapore Air Force's Black Knights aerobatic demo team. Base kit used was Tamiya's F-16C/N Aggressor/Adversary kit as it has parts to build all F-16C blocks from 25 through 52. I modded the kit by using the metal pitot and AoA probes from Tamiya's F-16 detail-up set. I also scratch-built the smoke system pipe from the centreline station to the nozzle at the exhaust as well as the HMD sensor on the canopy. The seat was detailed using Fine Molds' plastic seatbelts for ACES II seats. Static discharge wicks were made with stretched sprue. I used decals from Miliverse to represent a Viper flown by Lead Solo MAJ Eugene Lim of the RSAF Black Knights demo team. Overall a nice build though the decals did give some problems. Hope you enjoy the photos! Mark
  19. Hi, Been a while since my last posting. Kind of lost my mojo after I threw the Tamiya Sea Harrier kit away because it just beat me !! .. will start saving for the Kinetic version. In the meantime , found this 1:48 F16 in Home bargains for about £5 but it was the "Thunderbird version " but with an Air National Gaurd option, so here it is. All OOB and the only change was to paint the canopy with a gold tint. Cheap kit and probably not accurate but it looks like a F-16. Main issue was the canopy fit, it was warped so had to use quite a bit of filler to make it fit. Painting the canopy was new and worked better than I thought. Also, got a new airbrush and well happy with it. So much so, I liked using it so much, I managed to cover up all the pre-shading.. Lots of techniques learned and re learned with this cheap kit. Now on the hunt for a decent Lysander Cheers Happy Modelling

  22. Hello everyone. I`m looking to model USAF and IAF F-16 in 1/144 and have had no luck in finding a decal sheet of USAF tail codes. The ones I am after in particular are WA and AZ. Does anyone know if there is a sheet of generic letters available that could be used. I have had a good look but am having no luck. I am also looking for a scorpion tail decal in 1/144. Does anyone know of a place where I might find it, I can find a sheet of other SQN`s but not this particular one. Many thanks. https://cdn.jetphotos.com/full/6/70666_1541230267.jpg
  23. F-16A 80-0550, F-16 Combined Test Force, 6510th Test Wing, Air Force Flight Test Center, Edwards AFB. Evaluation flights of handling qualities (stability and control) of the aircraft with LANTIRN targeting and navigation pods. The pods and pylons are engineering mock-ups. October 1982 and January 1983. Lucky shot as we re-joined and barrel rolled over him to avoid overshooting. Good view of the general arrangement of the spin recovery parachute attachment fittings and associated fuselage reenforcements Straight-in approach to Runway 22 over Rogers Dry Lake. The Boron mines in the background. '550 was a dedicated Performance and Flying Qualities (P&FQ) test aircraft, hence the spin recovery chute fittings for high angle-of-attack and departures testing. '550 would later have an F-16C vertical tail installed to evaluate the effects of the enlarged fairing that was intended to house the Airborne Self-Protection Jammer, which, as it turns out, was never accepted by the USAF. Thanks for looking, Sven
  24. RSAF F-16 training detachment (if it had a squadron designation at this time, I couldn't find it) of the 58th Tac Training Wing playing in Red Flag 90-1 at Nellis AFB, October 1989.
