  1. Having given up on finding the Hasegawa boxing of this variant I'm now preparing to scratch build the balloon defender and using the Hasegawa/Revell H-6 as the basis for the model, however I have a couple of questions before I get going please. The H-8 was basically a modified H-5 (or H-3) so is the H-6 the correct start point given that based upon the crash site photos the example I'm building definitely had the later exhaust manifold typical of the P variants and the H-6, which would seem to rule out using the H-2/3/4 presumably? Also the aircraft had 4 crew members so I'm wondering which machine gun positions it would have had as I thought the addition of the fuselage beam guns required an additional crew member to operate them? Any other finer details anyone may have about the H-8 would also be very welcome such as the likely bomb load (internal and/or external), roles of each crew member etc... Regards Colin.
  2. Although this kit by copper state models in 1:35 has rightly received overall excellent reviews, I think some reviewers have rose-tinted spectacles on!, Although presentation & quality is 1st class some errors have been made:- 1)External colour guides are not keyed to any manufacturers paint ranges 2)no mention is made of the colours that the chassis and some other parts are to be painted 3)no clear plastic is provided for the headlights 4)The turret top hatch is moulded closed(so no crew members then?) no PE is supplied BUT CSM are to release 1 set for the spoked wheels & 1 for other details. close but no cigar! cheers TONY
  3. I don't know if this will be a help or a hindrance, but wanted to seek the collective wisdom and guidance of the fraternity before putting glue to plastic. On the subject of the intake, nose, and gun ports, and bearing in mind that I'm still waiting for Her Majesty's Snail Mail to deliver the two kits I ordered from H so I can actually see what you have all been talking about, I pose these observations/questions for your learned consideration: It looks to me that the location, shape, and downward angle of the gun ports as Sword has molded them is a little off when comparing them to SJ's and TT's excellent photos. Too far aft? Forward port doesn't appear to be long enough, either. Since it appears that the upper contour of the nose, from the base of the windscreen to the intake is too shallow, the contour of the intake lip itself is a little off, and the nose is a little too long, would this work? Revise the gun ports so that they have the correct length, shape, and angle; elongating the forward one will bring it closer to the intake, correcting its location. I'm thinking possibly of cutting the intake from the fuselage, removing a couple of mm from the back, and re-attaching it so that the bottom of the intake is now flush with the bottom of the fuselage; then sanding the upper part of the nose and the intake lip to give the correct shape as well as downward curve to the upper nose. Again, I will wait until I get my hands on both kits to see if this fix would work. Sounds like a lot of trouble and effort for a couple of mm, I know, but the nose of both variants is so distinctive and unique to the navalised Sabres, that it makes a big difference in appearance. What do you all think? (I think Meng or Fujimi both missed a golden opportunity to sell a ton of models- way to go, Sword!) Regardless, all three releases look to be very, very good kits and will fill the void nicely where 50's era USN jets are concerned- may they sell a ton of them! Mike
  4. Hi gents, I am in the research for my Gulf war Seaking HC.4 I am planning to build in 1:72 from the new Airfix kit. My friend and I are planning a small PE sheet with some resin parts, so I am looking for some detail shots or info. 1 - rear view mirrors - I have a few pictures of them, but more pics are better. when they were carried ? I have pics with and without them 2 - cargo hook assembly - the kit completely lacks the cargo hook assembly, so we are thinking to make resin hook and PE mounting points for the cables - I am looking for detail pics of the cargo hook itself 3 - side mesh on the left hand side of engine cover - already sorted out 4 - and probably the most problematic part - racks for the chaff/flare launchers. I know that in modern HC.4s they are mounted just behind the sliding doors, but I am looking for the mounts on the aft of the fuselage, just above the tail wheel (they are on both sides) - picture is here: 5 - IRCM frame - different frame than it is in the Eduard set (this one has round lightening holes on sides, Gulf war version has one big lightening hole in triangular shape in the side) We are planning to make a small update set. If you think of anything else which might be included in this set, let me know. Thanks a lot and happy modelling. Jakub
  5. A small treasure trove of b&w intimate detail photos of a captured FW 190 A turned up in my FB: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1725439444368711.1073742316.1634742540105069&type=3 They're apparently part of a LIFE story from 1944. Kind regards, Joachim
  6. Cockpit Instrument Bezels and Details 1:24 Airscale Airscale have recently been expanding their range of cockpit details and bezels with some superbly crafted products. The two sets reviewed here are the latest in the line. Produced in 1:24 scale, they will compliment Airscales instrument decals perfectly and will be a very useful resource, particularly for modellers who scratch build, but also for those who really like to go to town with detail. There are up to four of each type on the sheet and are well marked up on the included “Pilots Notes” showing where each bezel is on the sheet and their usage. The Cockpit Instrument Bezels set, (PE24 BEZ) contains a single sheet of relief etched brass filled with a myriad of different bezels for aircraft used in WWI, through WWII and Twentieth Century jets. These include:- US Altimeter US Turn and Bank US Compass WW1 Allied RPM RAF Voltmeter US Artificial Horizon US Altimeter US Fuel/Oil RAF Pressure RAF Airpseed US Pressure Luftwaffe Climb/Descend Luftwaffe Fuel/Oil Luftwaffe Switch Luftwaffe Compass RAF Pressure RAF RPM Luftwaffe Artificial Horizon (Type 2) Luftwaffe Artificial Horizon (Type 3) Luftwaffe Artificial Horizon (Type 1) WW1 Allied Altimeter WW1 German Altimeter WW1 Airspeed WW1 German Altimeter Luftwaffe Altimeter Luftwaffe Airspeed Luftwaffe Temperature Luftwaffe Compass Luftwaffe Undercarriage US Single and Switches RAF Dual Various Luftwaffe Dual Various RAF Triple Various US Triple Various US Dual Various US Single Various Luftwaffe Dual Various RAF Single Various Luftwaffe Dual Various The Cockpit Details Set (PE24 DET) has a similar sized sheet to the previous set but contains a lot of the miscellaneous items found in cockpits, such as switches, dial knobs, levers, circuit breakers and electrical components. RAF and Luftwaffe radio faces are also included. The list of details include:- Fusebox Cover Circuit Terminus Power Distribution Cover Structural Brace Electrical Plug Cover Frequency Switch Relay Cover Switch Radial Switch Radio Relay Radar Jamming Switch Push Button Mount Circuit Breaker Control Armament Switch Radio Frequency Controller Fuse Panel Selector Switch Trailing Aerial Switch Electrical Cover Fusebox Cover Voltmeter Cover Indicator Pressure Gauge Cover Radio Control Electrical Control Oxygen Control Antenna Control FuG HF/MF Transmitters Mounting Electrical Control Panel Weapons Control Panel Cannon Control Tuning Knobs Turn Switch Handles On/Off Switches Selector Handles Switch Cover Dial Selector Switch Rotating Switch Handles Switch Panel (5) Switch Panel (4) Switch Panel (3) Radio Control Switches Undercarriage Selector Headset Controller Weapons Controller FuG HF/MF Receiver R1155 LF/HF Receiver R1155 Tuning Knob Assorted Control Levers Mounting Brackets Conclusion These sets are both superbly produced and extremely useful to super detail any 1:24 cockpit and when used in conjunction with Airscales instrument decals they will bring a cockpit alive. Highly recommended. Review sample courtesy of Peter at
