  1. Greetings. I'd like to announce, that by popular demand, 1:48 scale Avro CF-105 Arrow markings are now available from Canuck Model Products. For those that have one of the old Hobbycraft kits sitting in their stash, now you can finish it up properly. Package comes with two sheets, all stencil and warning markings, numbers for all 5 MK1 prototypes, intake bleed ramp markings, and complete wing walkway lines. enjoy David
  2. Hi All, Put this post on earlier but think i may have posted on wrong forum. Been out of the scene for quite a while for one reason or another and am just getting back into a bit of modelling. Which brings me to my request. Would anyone out there have a set of decals for a 1/72 scale Lancaster of 106 Sqn, (ZN- ), by any chance ? Hoping to build a diorama with the new airfix bomber supply set as 106 Sqn was my Dad's old Sqadron, (sadly he passed ago a year ago as now). Fingers crossed, I look forward to hearing from you, Best regards Roger
  3. Does anyone do decals/masks or anything for this scheme in 1/32: http://www.airliners.net/photo/UK---Air/British-Aerospace-Hawk/1672660/L/&sid=2d721312e5e96b613f24da4eb4a75c41 I have looked in the obvious places, but can't find anything. Thanks, Andrew
  4. Curtiss P-40K Decals Super Scale International 1:32 This is another new sheet from Squadron Productions in their Super Scale International range of decals. The sheet contains full insignia, stencils, identification numbers and the ubiquitous sharks mouth for two aircraft, although there are only enough decals to complete one aircraft. The two options are:- • P-40K-5, Pilot – Major Robert Liles, CO of 16th FS, 51st FG, October 1943, in Olive Drab over Neutral Grey • P-40K-5, Pilot – 1st Lieutenant Charles White, 25th FS, 51st FG, Summer 1943, in Brown and Green over Light Grey The decals have been printed by Cartograf in Italy so you know the quality is going to be good. The decals are very glossy, in good register and nicely opaque the carrier film appears almost non-existent and can only really be seen on the aircraft numbers. If they’re like other Cartograf products they should react well with most softening and setting solutions, which will probably be required more with the shark mouths than any of the other decals. The instruction sheet has nice colour profiles of the aircraft showing not only decal placement, but also the colour schemes and the FS and DuPont codes for the colours used. Conclusion This is a very nice set of quality decals for the Hasegawa kit giving another pair of options for the modeller to decide upon. Highly Recommended. Review sample courtesy of
  5. I am looking for decals for the aircraft on my Airfix Illustrious. Are there any aftermarket sheets around? I am looking for current era stuff, not 90's turn of the millennium stuff.
  6. Hi everyone! My name is Ben from V1 Decals, and I think this will be my first post on this site. Very excited to see some of the great work on this site and look forward to posting some of my own models and projects! Some of you may have heard of my decals and I, but let me quickly introduce myself. I have been designing and producing airliner decals for probably close to 4 years now, and have since accumulated a catalogue of close to 200 liveries from around the world (with a heavy Canadian bias). When I'm not preoccupied with flying, working, or making decals I also like to try and build 1/200 models in my precious spare time. Summer is here and I've been very busy for the past couple months working on a number of new projects including a complete overhaul of my business. Nevertheless, it is my pleasure to announce July's new releases a day in advance and wish you all a great month of modelling. Stay tuned for many new changes in the coming months. All of our decals are laser printed, available in any scale, and can be found on the V1 Decals website. Be sure to check out the website and the new catalogue on the homepage for more details. 9. Fiesta S2000 M.Prokop Deutschalnd Rally 2011 1:24 scale Reji Model Czech driver Martin Prokop, made his WRC debut at the age of 23, in the 2005 Monte Carlo Rally, competing in the Junior category and piloting a Suzuki Ignis S1600. He would finish in 9th place in the JWRC championship, come years end. The following year he switched to a Citroen C2 S1600 and gained his maiden JWRC rally victory, at the Spanish Rally Catalunya. Still competing in the Junior class, Prokop would win Rally Deutschland and the Tour De Corse, in 2007 and finished 3rd in the championship standings. In 2008 he began contesting both the JWRC and PWRC (Production World Rally Championship). The following year, he secured the Junior championship and finished 2nd in the Production class. 2010 would see Prokop switch to the new Super 2000 WRC championship, driving a Fiesta S2000 for the Czech Ford National Team. He became the first S2000 driver to win a special stage of a WRC event, on SS16 of Rally Sweden. He continued in the S2000 class, until finally making the switch to the senior WRC category in November 2011, when he entered Rally GB, using a Fiesta RS WRC. His first full WRC season (2012) would end with 9th place in the championship standings. This year, he is still in a Fiesta RS WRC, driving for the Jipocar Czech National Team and is currently sitting in 9th spot in the championship. Decal set No 195 from Reji Model features the Fiesta S2000, in which Martin Prokop took 6th place at the 2011 Rally Deutschland. The sheet is designed to be used in conjunction with Belkits Fiesta S2000 model (BEL002). The paint finish required for this car is going to be quite labour intensive, requiring some very careful masking to ensure everything lines up straight and symmetrical. The base colour is gloss white and then on top of this, there are large blocks of red down the flanks, on the roof and the centre of the bonnet. The rear of the car is largely blue, along with the lower edge of the front spoiler. Finally, we also have strips of gold running from the edge of the bonnet, up the “A-Pillars” and along the roofs edge, as well as additional gold bands which angle up the sides, onto the doors. Once that task is completed, your attention can turn to applying the decals. Reji supply everything needed, on one sheet, with a small correction sheet for 2 sponsor badges which go on the roof. Once again, the quality of the decals is excellent. The images are sharp and clear, with bold colours. The registry is spot on and the sponsorship logos all appear very authentic to the originals. Everything is printed on very fine and glossy carrier film. Conclusion Due to the complexity of the paint job required, perhaps this is one for the more advanced Rally modellers among us. On the other hand, we only advance ourselves through experience, so if you feel confident enough to try it out, I’d say go for it. Take your time and with some careful masking and painting, you’ll end up with a very colourful car to add to the collection. I can’t speak well enough of the decals themselves. They are simply another very high quality product from Reji Model. Review sample from
  10. Citroen C4 WRC, P.Solberg & P.Mills, Catalunya Rally 2009 1:24 scale Reji Models Like his older brother Henning, Petter Solberg began his motorsport career by competing in Rallycross. The day after he passed his driving test in 1992 (which was 3 days past his 18th birthday), he entered his first event. He would go on to become the Norwegian champion in both Rallycross and Hillclimbing, in 1995, winning an impressive 19 out of 21 events. He repeated this success the following year, being victorious in 15 from 19 events. He made his stage rally debut in the 1995 Norwegian Rally Bjørkelangen, piloting a Volvo 240. He would go on to become Norwegian Rally champion in 1998, bringing himself to the attention of several World Rally Championship (WRC) teams. He signed as a junior driver for Ford, in 1999, but was unexpectedly thrust into the limelight when Fords No2 driver, Thomas Radstrom, was unable to compete in the Safari Rally due to injury. Solberg was entered into the event in his place, as a nominated points scorer for Ford. Despite being one of the most challenging rallies on the calendar, Solberg not only completed the event, but finished in an impressive 5th place. Of course, he is best known for his association with Subaru. He joined the Prodrive Subaru World Rally Team (WRT) in 2000 and became the first Norwegian WRC champion, when he took the drivers title in 2003. He would also finish as runner up in 2002, 2004 and 2005. When Subaru withdrew from the WRC in December 2008, Solberg was left without a drive for the 2009 season. After weighing up his options, he decided to enter the championship as a privateer and acquired a 2006 spec Citroen Xsara WRC and formed the Petter Solberg WRT. Along with regular co-driver, Phil Mills, the team made their debut at the Norwegian rally, finishing in 6th place. The following round, in Cyprus, Solberg and Mills would finish in 3rd place, the first time since 1993 that a privateer team had finished in a podium position. He would continue to battle for 3rd and 4th spots for every rally that followed, up until Rally Finland, where he was forced to retire. Feeling that he had taken the Xsara as far as he could, he began the search for a more competitive car. After sitting out the Australian Rally, he returned for the final 2 rounds of the season, with a Citroen C4 WRC, which had been upgraded to something near the spec of the Citroen factory cars. Piloting the C4, he would finish in 4th spot at both the Catalunya Rally and Rally GB, securing 5th spot in the drivers championship, come years end. He would better that result a year later, by finishing 3rd in the drivers championship, once again piloting a privately entered Citroen C4. He would switch to the Citroen DS3 WRC for the 2011 championship (finishing 5th in the title), while 2012 would see him return to the Ford factory team, driving a Fiesta RS WRC (once again finishing 5th). Unfortunately, with Fords withdrawal from the WRC, he once again found himself without a seat for the 2013 championship, but he can now be seen in the European Rallycross Championship. One of the latest decal releases from Reji Model, set No 199 features the privateer Citroen C4 WRC, which Petter and co-driver Phil Mills drove to 4th spot in the 2009 Spanish Catalunya Rally. The clear Zip-Lock bag contains 2 sheets of decals and one colour, 4-view paint and decal guide. The decals are designed for use with the Heller 1:24 Citroen C4 WRC (kit no 80756). After applying a gloss white basecoat, some careful masking is going to be required in order to paint the curvy black markings on the body shell and to get them looking symmetrical. The rear spoiler is finished in black, as is the front edge of the bonnet. A yellow band is required around the lower edge of the front valance, which extends around and behind the wheel arches, on to the forward end of the doors. This should be quite a simple task, as it is all straight edges. Once painted up, your attention can turn to applying the multitude of sponsor decals and placards, etc. As with previous releases, Reji have done their research very thoroughly. The markings all appear very accurate and authentic. The decal sheets are fantastic quality, featuring pin-sharp images, printed on extremely thin and glossy carrier film. The colours (and the blacks and whites, for that matter) are nice and bold. I cant forsee any issue with their use at all. Conclusion Another fantastic quality product from our friends at Reji Model. I have no hesitation in recommending them to fellow Rally fans, as they offer a welcome alternative scheme for the Heller C4 model. Review sample from
  11. BMW 635CSI, John Player Special 1:24 decals from Reji The BMW 635 CSI is part of the BMW 6srs model range, hitting the road in 1976 going through various models and upgrades until 1989. The John Player Special (JPS) team is an Australian race team that raced in the Australian and New Zealand Touring car, and sport sedan series. The team raced the 635 CSI between 1981 and 1986. The car featured in this decal set will let you build a BMW 635 driven by New Zealand born driver Denny Hulme from either the 1984 Bathurst that was raced at the Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst, New South Wales in Australia, or the 1985 Oran Park, again in New South Wales. Denny Hulme sadly died during a race a Bathurst in 1992 after suffering a heart attack at the wheel of a BMW M3. The BMW 635 CSI is available in 1:24 from either Tamiya or Fujimi. The decals come on a single sheet packed in a zip lock bag. The instructions are 4 colour diagrams showing the location of the decals, the instructions also highlight the differences in markings between the two races. For clarity the instructions show the car in white, but the body of the model should be a semi-gloss black. Reji recommend a Tamiya colour TS14. The decals are very well printed and the gold is nice and metallic and the colours and sheen looks good on the sheet. The decals are screen printed and they are sharply done. Conclusion A nice high quality set of decals from Reji! Review sample courtesy of
  12. Ford Fiesta WRC Decals, 'Prokop' 2011, & 2012 decals from Reji in 1:24 The Ford Fiesta is a very popular hatchback car seen on streets worldwide, this innocent little hatch has also been transformed by Ford and m-Sport for the Ford World Rally team and it took to the rally in 2011 with a 1.6 litre engine and 6 speed sequential gearbox. Reji Model has released 2 sets of decals for the WRC Fiesta as raced by Martin Prokop in the 2011 Welsh Rally, and the 2012 Monte Carlo Rally and will suit the Belkit (BEL003) kit. Martin Prokop debuted on the WRC in 2005 after 4 years driving in the Czech Rally Championship he took part in the Junior WRC category, working his way through various cars he took to the wheel of the Fiesta WRC in late 2011. Prokop drives as part of the Jipocar Czech National team that was formed in 2010. Prokop Rallye Monte Carlo 2012 The Monte Carlo rally is organized by the Automobile Club de Monaco, the same group that organizes the Monaco F1 Gran-Prix, it first ran in 1911 and the 2012 event took place in early January 2012. Prokop completed the rally in his Fiesta and finished in 9th place overall. The decals come in a zip-lock bag as we have come to expect from Reji. The decals are the usual high quality and are very comprehensive; the printing is sharp and in register for the review sample. The kit will need painting in white, then masked for the red and black areas. The instructions are the usual Reji format, colour drawings showing the placement of all decals. A small bonus in this set is a small etched metal Monte Carlo rally plaque. The etch is a nice small detailed part that you could place the decal on with lashings of softener, or you could paint it red then white on the raised areas. Wales Rally GB, 2011 The 2011 Wales rally GB was the 67th outing of this event, and took place in early November. The event was biased in Cardiff but stages where held throughout Wales. The decals follow the usual format, they come in a zip lock bag with the decals and colour instructions. The decals are to the expected high quality and are a completely comprehensive set. You will need to paint the model white and again mask the red and black areas. Conclusion These are two nice sets for rally fans. Both sheets are different if you look to mirror the changes in decals and sponsors between the 2 events. Both come recommended due to the high quality of the sets! Review sample from
  13. Hello everyone, I have just seen some Emirates 1/144 SkyCargo decals for the 777-200, is there any possible way, with some spare windows and doors transfers, I could turn it into a 777 for people, cargo, i'm thinking remove the gold line and everything underneath it and make up my own registration, would that be good enough? Link: http://www.shopdrawdecal.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=44%2D777%2D25
  14. hi there im desperately trying to souce an alphabet and numbers for antiflash blue letters that are in a smaller scale like 1/144th does anyone do them, as i have roundels but no one seems to do the numbers any help appreciated
  15. Porsche 911 Carerra 2.7RS '1974 Safari rally' 1:24 decals from Reji The 911 Carerra 2.7RS is said by some to be the best 911s of all time, the RS stands for Rennsport in German, or translated to race sport in English. The 911 RS was raced in the 1974 Safari Rally that took place between the 11th, and the 15th April 1974 in Kenya. The car that took part was a 1973 model (previously in a Yellow ‘Bosch’ sponsor livery) and it had a rear mounted 2.7l air cooled engine. The car depicted in this sheet from Reji came 2nd, and was driven by Bjorn Waldegård with Hans Thorszelius as his co-driver. The car was in first place until the rear suspension collapsed on the last leg of the event. The car is now preserved by a couple in Stuttgart and still takes part in historic events. Reji recommend the Fujimi 911 (12152) as a base for this build. The decals are screen printed and the detail is very nice, with some very small writing on some of the logos being readable with my eyes. The decals come over 2 small sheets that are packed with decals. The decals are numbered and this is referenced on the colour instruction sheet. You will need to paint the car body white before applying the decals, most of the fit to the outside of the car but there are 3 dial decals to fix to the dashboard to show the extra dials carried by this car over the rally. You will need to carefully mask and paint a clear green to the top of the windscreen for the sun strip on the 1:1 car before adding the Porsche logo decal. Conclusion A nice set of high quality decals from Reji for a classic rally car. Review sample from
  16. Pz.Kpfw.V Panther in attack & defence Kagero Publishing This is one of Kagero's TopColors editions, number 31 in a long line, and is essentially a reference tool and source of decals rolled into one! An A4 landscape oriented book, with glossy paper throughout, it covers 16 vehicles of Ausf. (variant) A, D and G in some really rather interesting and striking colour scheme, with decals to match in 1:72, 1:48 and 1:35 scales. Each page of this 20 page volume provides a side profile of the vehicle in question, with scrap diagrams of other markings, or angles, together with (where available) a photo of the real thing, and a brief explanation of the location of the vehicle, plus any other interesting tit-bits that may be of value. The profiles are up to Kagero's usual high standards, and give valuable information such as the application of Zimmerit, as the patterns did vary markedly, and whether Schurtzen or other ancillary equipment were installed. The decals are provided on a single sheet, with dotted lines separating the individual vehicles and a larger dotted line marking the change in scale. They are printed in Italy by Cartograf, and are of excellent quality, having good register, colour density and sharpness, with minimal carrier film that should settle down nicely on even the roughest zimmerit with an application of decal solvent solution. Conclusion Books like these solve the issue of research and choice of subject for the modeller that wants to break away from the kit decals for their Panther, and provides colour schemes that perhaps haven't been seen before on an out of the box build. Keep up the good work Kagero! Highly recommended. Review sample courtesy of
  17. P-38 Lightning at War - Part II Decal / Booklet Kagero Mini Topcolors The lightning is without doubt one of the most beautiful fighters of WWII that operated in most theatres of operations. Success in the aircraft however was very mixed. It benefitted from High speed and strong capability at altitude as well as the added reliability of two engines, but became vulnerable if caught in close combat with more nimble opposition, particularly at lower altitudes. Indeed, there are black marks against the aircrafts service record where considerable losses were encountered, particularly over Europe and North Africa at the hands of the Luftwaffe, however that was because of poor tactics being used to exploit the aircrafts strengths. It achieved most success in the Pacific Theatre where it downed over 1800 Japanese aircraft, more than any other US fighter and in the process made over 100 aces. This pack takes a selection of P-38’s from various theatres with a common theme....great artwork ! Inside are decals for no less than eight aircraft in 1/72, 1/48 and 1/32 and a reference book to help not only with decal referencing, but inspiration too ! Let's look at the book first. Containing 18 colour pages, each aircraft represented on the decal sheets is superbly drawn with side views and top down view across two A4 pages. Section drawings are provided for the nose and underwing areas to assist decal positioning where they aren’t visible on the main views. Not only do the drawings show where to apply the decals, but such is the detail in the artwork, you can use them for weathering references too. Wording is provided in both English and Polish to supplement the drawings with information about the aircraft in service. If you are a lightning fan, then I’m sure that this set is a must for your collection considering that all three major scales catered for. What I really like is the stunning detail in the nose art. Whilst many decal sheets I’ve seen are limited to single colour tones, these are brought to life with exquisite shading, particularly in the skin tones. Register on the decals is bang on and the fine detail even in 1/72 is hard to beat. Even the placards are readable on lettering much less than 1mm in size when put under a magnifying glass! Decals for the following P-38's included are: P-38G-13-LO, probable s/n 42-2197, 'Nulli Secundus' / 'X-Virgin', flown by Lt. Kenneth G. Ladd of 80th FS / 8th FG, Dobodura, New Guinea, winter of 1943/1944 P-38J-15-LO, s/n 42-104107, 'Jewboy', coded '47', flown by Lt. Philip M. Goldstein of 49th FS / 14th FG, Triolo, Italy, May 1944, P-38J-10-LO, s/n 42-67916, 'California Cutie', coded (KI)- 'S', flown by Lt. Richard O. Loehnert of 55th FS / 20th FG, RAF Kings Cliffe, England, June 1944, P-38J-15-LO, s/n 43-28444, 'Vivacious Virgin II', coded 'E6-T', flown by Lt. Ian B. Mackenzie of 402nd FS / 370th FG, Florennes/Juxaine, Belgium, winter of 1944/1945, P-38L-1-LO, s/n 44-23852, 'Beautiful Bitch', coded 'B7', flown by Lt. John J. Kane of 96th FS / 82nd FG, Vincenzo, Italy, March 1945, P-38L-5-LO, s/n 44-26176, 'Vagrant Virgin', coded 'A', flown by Lt. L. V. Bellusci of 36th FS / 8th FG, San Jose, Mindoro, late 1944/early 1945, P-38L-5-LO, s/n 44-26176, 'Vagrant Virgin', coded 'A', flown by Lt. Peter Macgowan of 36th FS / 8th FG, Ie Shima, September 1945, P-38L-5-LO, probable s/n 44-26568, 'Wicked Woman', coded 'W', flown by Lt. Richard C. Livingston of 36th FS / 8th FG, Ie Shima, August-September 1945. Conclusion I'm really pleased to have got my hands on this set (although Mike was sad to see it go !!). If you like to put a lot of effort in your paint schemes, a good set of decals is a must to finish it off. Not only will you get some great aircraft choices here (which could be a dilema choosing which one to do !), but the book will give you plenty of inspiration with the colour profiles included. Considering you get decals for 8 aircraft in three scales plus a great reference booklet, the price is excellent value too. Review sample courtesy of
  18. Does anyone have experience of this range of resin kits. I was given one recently and it seems quite impressive for such a small box. I am very experienced with resin figures but not these aircraft kits. What should I look for, where can I get decals etc? Many thanks for any help in advance.
  19. Recently been applying lots of decals to a car model and once again I've reflected on how nervous it makes me - mainly because all too easily they stick like glue on contact, and resist my attempts at fine positioning... I use Microset and Microsol in conjunction, or sometimes I use Klear - either neat, or thinned 50/50 with water. Either method still restricts my attempts to get the position just right. Maybe I don't get the paint sufficiently glossy first? I spray Klear in layers on top of (usually) Vallejo acrylics and get a fairly glossy surface. I hate it when a decal ends up crooked, or at the wrong angle, or the edges crumple slightly and show up on the finished model... What techniques do others have for getting a nice slippery decal that can be slid around and positioned exactly? I've been dealing with some fairly large, complex decals, and I have another kit lined up to build that has some equally large, sophisticated decals, and I really don't want to mess them up! Tony
  20. Hi all, I am well on my way to completing my 1/72 Hawker Hunter "Miss Demeanour". However, to finish her off I need 1/7 899 NAS "Winged Fist" fin flash, as shown here http://img.photobuck...irfix_SHARs.jpg . I know these two decals exist in the Airfix 1/72 FA2 kit. If anyone has a two of these decals spare and is willing to post them please, please, reply. Thank-you Ben.
  21. Aztec Decals - All Castro's MIGs - Cuban Raiders Aztec Models - 1:48 & 1:72 The Cuban revolution of 26th July 1953 finally ousted President Batista in January 1959 replacing his regime with Fidel Castro's revolutionary government. This was later reformed into a communist style of government, with the Cuban communist party become a reality in 1965. As the Cuban regieme became a communist one they allied with the Soviet Union, they then became the source of military equipement for the Cubans. For aircraft this meant MiG's and more MiG's! Deliveries begining after Raul Castro visited Moscow in 1960. As well as direct exports the Soviet Air Force also left behind MiG-21's following their withdrawl during the Cuban missle crisis. Estimated Soviet aircraft deliveries to Cuba were; 60 MiG-15, 12 MiG-15UTI, 80 MiG-17, 40 MiG-19, 117 MiG-21, 22 MiG-23, 15 MiG-27. This new sheet from Aztec Decals contains decals to build 16 different MiG's from the early MiG-15's to the later MiG-21's (including some two seaters). The decals look to be excellent on the sheet. I cant see any printing errors, the colours are sharp, dense and in register. Carrier film is almost invisible. As with a lot of Aztec sheets, they pack the decals on so care will be needed cutting them out. I have used Aztec decals before with excellent results, and have no doubts these will perform as well. Aircraft you are able to build from the sheet are; 1. MiG-21MF Red 602 (Green & tan over grey?) - 1962 2. MiG-15 Red 36 - 1961 NMF 3. MiG-17F Red 101 - 1964 NMF 4. MiG-19P Red 89 - 1964 NMF 5. MiG-21MF Black 656 (Blue & Tan over blue) 6. MiG-15UTI Red 26 - 1961 NMF 7. MiG-17AS Blue 232 - This aircraft landed at Homestead AFB 1969 NMF 8. MiG-21PMF Red 371 - 1962 NMF 9. MiG-21MF Black 665 - (Blue & Grey Green over blue) 10.10 seems to have been missed off! 11. MiG-21UM Red 500 - 1968 NMF 12. MiG-21MF Red 519 - 1974 NMF 13. MiG-21MF Black 672 (Blue & Grey over Blue) Defected to NAS Quay West 1993 14. MiG-17F or AS - Red 237 5 colour camo as seen in the Air Museum 1974 15. MiG-21PFM Black 618 - 5 colour camo 2010 16. MiG-21Bis Black 668 - 5 colour camo 2010 17. MiG21UM Black 526 - 5 colour camo 2009 The Pack In addition to the decal sheet, there is one double sided A4 sheet containing all the schemes you are able to build. In all cases only one side profile is supplied which is going to make camo schemes a bit of guess work, or some research will be needed. As there is not much information out there a bit more on the instructions would have been appriciated. Small top plans are provided for the camo schemes. In addition to the colour sheet there is a second sheet which gives additional information for each of the schemes, This is arranged by aircraft type. Additional information concerning colours and the type of roundels / flashes to be used is to be found here. Colour call outs as given in FS numbers with appropriate Humbrol suggestions. There are also additional information concerning the Aircraft types and in one case a link to a video on you tube showing one of the aircraft. Conclusion This is comprehensive sheet allowing the modeller to build some of Cuba's MiG's, hopefully there will be a follow on sheet with MiG-23's, 27's and 29's. Aztec are to be congratualted for continuing to bring the Subjects of Central & South America to the modeller. Review sample courtesy of Available direct or from most large Model Retailers
  22. War for the Malvinas / Falklands Part 1 Decals Aztec Models - 1:48 & 1:72 Following a long standing dispute over the sovereignty of the Malvinas / Falkland Islands, war officially broke out 30 years ago on 2nd April 1982 when Argentine forces invaded the Islands. In response the British sent a task force to counter the invasion and fight to recapture the territory. The battle that followed was a challenge for both sides. For the British, the challenge was deploying a force so far from home with limited land platforms to supply the effort. For the Argentineans, despite occupying the Islands, only one airfield out of the three (Stanley) was paved but it still wasn't long enough to operate the fast jets from, so they had to carry out their attacks from the Argentine mainland. The British only had 42 Harriers to counter the attacking aircraft which comprised approximately 50 air superiority fighters and 70 attack aircraft. Initial attacks on Stanley were carried out by Vulcan bombers in the historic Black Buck raids successfully completing 8000 mile round trip missions from the British airfield at Ascension. The war caught the world by surprise and indeed created some challenging political situations where some nations officially backed Britain's interests, but were none the less committed to supporting the Argentineans with the technology that they had supplied to them. Initial attacks on British ships were carried out by A-4 Skyhawks, Mirage III's, Canberra's as well is Israeli supplied Daggers. The initial Daggers fared well boosting pilot confidence in the aircrafts ability to survive modern combat but later a Canberra and a Dagger were lost to defending Sea Harriers. On a subsequent combat between Harriers and Mirage III's one Mirage was shot down and another was damaged. Short of fuel, it tried to land at the Argentinian occupied Stanley airfield but was shot down by friendly fire. Although night combat air patrols were performed by the Harriers, they were deemed too valuable during the day role to make a major commitment during the dark hours. Following the initial Canberra loss, subsequent missions for this type of aircraft were only performed by night. The A-4's and Daggers continued in the Strike Role where as the Mirage was used as decoys to lure the Harriers away from the attack aircraft. Lack of A-A missiles and refuelling capabilities limited it's potential other than in this role. After a successful recapture of South Georgia by British forces, the full effort was turned to the Falklands. 74 days after the invasion by Argentinian forces, the islands were recaptured and the Argentinian forces surrendered. The conflict cost the lives of 649 Argentineans military personnel, 255 British and 3 civilian islanders. The pack Aztec have provided these decals in two scales, 1:72 (set D72-048) and 1:48 (set D48-048). The decals come on three sheets with two colour and two B&W sheets of instructions. I'm really impressed with the amount of individual aircraft that are catered for in this set. If you enjoy building your models with themes and have been looking to do a Falklands one, then you'll be very happy with this set. The aircraft you can build are: British Sea Harrier FRS.1 800 Sqn - XZ457, ZA193 Sea Harrier FRS.1 801 Sqn - XZ451, ZA175, ZA190 Sea Harrier FRS.1 809 Sqn - ZA177, ZA192 Sea King HAS.2, 825 Sqn RN - No. 97 Lynx HAS.2, 815 Sqn - XZ247, XZ691, XZ720, XZ728 Wasp HAS.1 - XT429, XS539 Argentinian A-4Q 1 ANAS Argentine Navy - 3-A-301, 3-A-304, 3-A-305, 3-A-307, 3-A-309, 3-A-312 (with selection of pre & wartime colours) A-4P Grupo 5 de Caza, Argentine Airforce - C0207, C-222, C-228, C-236, C-242 Canberra 2BS, Argentine Airforce - B-108 (Not included in 1:48 set) Mirage IIIEA Argentine Airforce - I-018, I-019, ? MB339, Argentine Navy - 4-A-115 Pucara, Grupo de Ataque 3, Argentine Airforce - A-506, A-528, A-537 Sea King SH-3, Argentine Navy - 2-H-233, 2-H-235 Lynx, Argentine Navy - 3-H-142 The Reference Material The instructions have lots of good and a few bad points. There is a wealth of information about colour schemes with plenty of side profiles and painting tips, for example explaining the variation in colour that can be found on the camouflaged Skyhawks. There are also photographs of the real aircraft and information about who flew the aircraft which makes for an interesting read. The slight downside is that the profiles are quite small and there is a lack of 3 view profiles, so you will probably need some support reference material to assist applying some of the decals. How readily available this support information is to come by, I don't know, so some replies from experts with good reference links would be most welcome. One of the things I really like is a paint chart for the aircraft contained that shows the paint numbers for the different paint manufacturers in comparison to the BS number - Humbrol, Model Master, Tamiya & Revell. Clearly a lot of research has gone into creating this set by Aztec and they've really tried to squeeze as much value into the set as possible reflected by the fact that you can build up to 38 aircraft from the set ! The Decals The decal sheets are jammed with detail, and very fine detail it is. There are three sheets that contain not only the aircraft markings, but a wealth of stencils. On the whole, the register is very good and the colours sharp. The British high vis roundels suffer a slight overlap of the blue and red colours which is visible if you look closely. There are some small British low vis roundels where the pink part is very slightly off centre to the surrounding blue. How noticeable this will be when on the kit I don't know. I'm trying to be objective and critical here as is the responsibility of a reviewer, these really are minor issues in the overall excellent quality of the pack. In Aztecs intent to get as many decals onto a sheet as possible, care will need to be taken cutting the decals from the sheet as they are quite close together. I normally use a pair of scissors, but for these I would use a sharp scalpel knife. Conclusion With the 30th Anniversary of the Falklands war and the recent release of the Airfix 1:72 Skyhawk, this is a timely and exciting release by Aztec. There's a few minor issues as I've mentioned above, namely the aircraft profiles and the British roundels, but you don't get much more value crammed into a pack of decals than this. Clearly there are some key aircraft missing from the pack, Wessex, Argentine Hercules and Vulcan stand out, so I suspect Part 2 will be just as welcome as this. As mentioned in the review, the Canberra isn't included in the 1/48 set. If you have the remotest interest in the Falklands conflict and build in either 1/72 or 1/48th, you really need a pack of these in your collection ! 23. Messerschmitt Bf 110E Decals 1:72 Eduard Decals Eduard are almost unique amongst model kit manufacturers as they produce a huge range of aftermarket accessories as well as their own high quality plastic kits. The Czech firm make the most of this advantageous position by producing comprehensive aftermarket options for their own kits, most of which are released at the same time as the kits. Eduard’s new Bf 110 kit has followed this path and is already established as the best option for a 1:72 Zerstorer, ably supported by a range of Eduard’s own photo etch and resin accessories. Now it’s the turn of Eduard’s fledgling decal department to get in on the act. The sheet contains marking options for four aircraft: 4M + KB of 1./Erg. Zerst. Gr. Deblin-Irena, Poland, December 1942; 3U + CR of 7./ZG26; M8 + IP W.Nr. 3866, flown by Hans-Joachim Jabs, Staffelkapitan 6./Zg 76, Argos, 1941; and G9 + JN, 5./NJG1, Deelen, Holland, Spring 1941 The first three aircraft are all finished in RLM 02/RLM 71 over RLM 65, while the fourth is finished in RLM 22 (or black to you and me). The latter option also makes use of the large Dackelbauch (Daschund belly) tank which is included with the new kit but not used for any of the options on the kit’s decal sheet. I was half expecting Eduard to have included some historical notes for each aircraft, as they do for their ‘Profipack’ kits, but they haven’t. That’s a bit of a shame, but by no means a deal breaker. Eduard appear to have invested heavily in their own decal production facilities, as this sheet has been printed in the Czech Republic by Eduard themselves. Previously, many of their decal sheets have been produced by Cartograf of Italy. Quality seems to have been maintained though, as the sheet is nicely printed. Details are crisp and clear, and colours look good. The red colour layer looks very slightly out of register on my copy, but not enough to spoil what is a very nice sheet. Conclusion If you’ve got a copy of Eduard’s superb new Bf 110, you’ll no doubt be itching to build it. This sheet will provide you with a number of colour and marking options over and above those included with the kit. The decals look good on the sheet, and hopefully they will perform well too. 24. just curious if anyone has built this as i got 1 last week and am wondering what the decals are like,in other words are they bad like the decals from their black eagles t-37 which are awful....on a side note, hobbymaster are releasing 2 diecast versions of this aircraft both in 1/72.the first 1 is the nmbr 1 aircraft and the other 1 will come with the aircraft nmbr and pilots name as decals and they provide decals for all aircraft and pilots so you can have it as any aircraft you wish including aircraft nmbr 7 [why the give nmbr 7 escapes me as the model is a single seater and as we all know the nmbr 7 is a 2-seater].just thought i would let you guys know just in case some of you also collect the die cast models aswell as kits
