  1. I've just started my first kit for about 20 years (an AZ Bf-109G6) and an early bit of work was the instrument decal. I put it into water, waited and once it was mobile, started to slide it off the backing paper. At which point it shrivelled up and disintegrated! Compared to what I remember, these decals are incredibly thin. I used to use Modeldecal, MicroScale etc, which were OK, but these seem about molecule thick! I can busk the intrument panel by hand, but I don't fancy this happening on the wing crosses. Any suggestions? There might have been about 1ppm of flow improver in the water, but that's all. Should I give them a spray of clearcote to reinforce them, like I do with home-made decals? Help!
  2. Hi, I am interested in obtaining the Cutting Edge 1/144 Space Shuttle Tile Decals, unfortunately they appear rare as hen's teeth. I understand that these are out of production since Modelworks are no longer trading. I have been on a popular online auction site to no avail; the 'Warbird' tile decals are however available, but I would rather procure the Cutting Edge decals if possible? I have written to Keith McNeill with no response via his website too. The Ed Bisconti Orbitor Decal Sets appears to have dried up also for one reason or another. I would like some advice if there are any other after market tile decals for the Space Shuttle 1/144 available? If there are any, or if anyone has a set, then I would be very interested hearing from them. Thank you
  3. Does anyone know if someone has produced a set of decals for the new Red Arrows 50th Anniversary livery for the 1/32 Revell Red Arrows Hawk? I've got one in the stash and fancy giving it a go this year. Thanks in anticipation! Andrew
  4. Hi chaps, I was wondering where you could find decals in the US for the Focke WUlf FW-190 D-9? like Amazon.com, and if possible, could it be ones witha yellow tail? Thanks, Sherminator
  5. Looking for some decals for a glossy green presidential Marine One helo. Google shows that Model Alliance produce a set, anyone else have give any pointers? thanks
  6. This weekend we are again offering a 10% discount on all current items in stock. Simply enter discount code GIMME10 prior to checkout, offer is valid until midnight on 15th April. This excludes items already discounted in the offers section (so no further discount to what is shown on offer items, but you can stick them in the same order). Minimum value to obtain the discount is £10.00 worth of non-offer items. In addition, for all orders over £20.00 we will include a free set of Freightdog Spitfire stencil decals in 1/72, ideal for use with our 'Post-War RAF Spitfires', 'Keeping the Peace' Pt.I and II or our re-printed 'Weekend Warriors' sheet. This is a good opportunity to get hold of one of my P.1109A sets a bit cheaper, while I have some left... Thanks Colin http://www.freightdogmodels.co.uk/
  7. Hi Guys! You will be able to help me?What the inscriptions written on this plane? P.S.Sorry for my English.
  8. Hi folks, What is the best source for black fuselage and wing serial code letters for my 1/72nd scale Tiger Moth please? I'm looking to replicate G-ANSM but don't know the actual size of the lettering used or who produces a suitable decal/paint mask in 72nd scale. Any help is appreciated. Cheers, Guy
  9. In my attempt to determine which RCAF Hampden to model (using the old Airfix kit along with the old/re-stocked Airwaves PE) I was curious about the size of the squadron codes that would/could be placed on the fuselage. I did find info on RAF Web which states: 48" sounds a bit large for the Hampden's rather slim rear however I also recognize that the article above does state that smaller letters can/could/were used accordingly. As such, in the case of the Hampden, would the 36" or 30" letters apply? Also, was there any particular rule of thumb when it came to squadron code letter sizes or serial number sizes which could not "fit" on particular fuselages? More a curiosity than a necessity but all input is welcome. Thank you and cheers, Dave
  10. Can you get airliner decals in 1/720 scale ?? Prefer British airline company Cheers Dave
  11. Hello Everyone, Sorry to post this negative forum but I have to alert all modelers and new comers like myself to a recent bad customer service I got from a Decal marker that goes by the name Modelarstwoalexander. AKA AviationCivil decals since 25th October 2013 up till now I never got back my money or a reply as to where is my decal order..This person is a bloody Thief and a Fraud.. please read Airlinescafe post.. Modelarstwoalexander. Here is the pics of the decal and the airline I wanted to do.. as a result of this I have a plan white MD 80 missing its decal
  12. Hello all, I'm looking to the east for my next project and the current options include Zvezda Il-86, TU-134 or TU-154. Having cracked open the Zvezda kits for inspiration I'm worried about the decals which to me look horribly yellowed (Il-86 excepted as this is the Revell boxing with an exquisite sheet). Both kits were new sealed and have been stored in good conditions. Has anyone else noticed this with Zvezda airliner kits and if so what were their experiences. Is it a case of the backing sheet or sealing agent causing the discolouration which will be remedied when applied? If not does the sticking them to the window trick work? It always seems very hit and miss when it comes to other manufacturers decals. If not it looks like I'll have to purchase an after market set which will be very frustrating when the schemes I want to model are right there in the box but unusable. Any suggestions for sheets would be most welcome as well I'm planning on the classic Aeroflot white/grey with blue cheat line livery. Many thanks
  13. I appreciate that it's not in airline service yet, but is anyone planning any decals for the A350? I know Nazca have a couple on their website. Cheers, Andrew
  14. I have obtained the lovely little AZmodel kit of the Auster AOP Mk V (AZ7294). I am very keen to build the Australian version however sadly the decals for the roundels are badly out of register. If anyone is able to help, or can point me in the the right direction to get the correct roundels could they PM me? Many thanks Simon
  15. Bell X-1 Decals and Stencils 1:32 MH Models Now, MH Models are new to this reviewer and I was passed this set from another BM member who received them from the company. They appear to be a Czech form of Local Model Shop that has decided to produce their own decals and masks. As a first effort I think they have done very well. Inside the ziplock poly bag you will find quite a large sheet of paint masks and a small, but well filled decal sheet. The decals are very well printed in good register and with minimal carrier film. They look very thin and only usage will determine how they adhere and settle down, hopefully without breaking up. There are decals and masks for other Bell X-1s in the program not just Chuck Yeager’s aircraft. There is a full set of stencils for both the exterior of the aircraft and the cockpit, along with the famous name, us titles, test site name and the Bell Aircraft logo. The larger items, such as the national insignia, photographic crosses, identification codes etc come in the form of paint masks which are pretty easy to use once you have found the correct colours. The instructions only show the markings for Glamorous Glennis so research will need to be carried out if other aircraft are to be modelled. Conclusion As stated above, for a first product I think MH Models have done very well. The masks are die cut, so easy to remove from their backing sheet and the decals are very well printed. Apart from the extra research required for the other X-1s I’m quite happy to recommend them to anyone who has the 1:32 kit. Sample provided by MH Models
  16. Grumman Intruder decals 1:32 Super Scale International Two new sheets of decals for the Trumpeter 1:32 Grumman A-6A Intruder have been released by SSI and they’ve been kind enough to send them here for us to look at. Each ziplock bag contains a medium sized sheet of decals and a full colour plan that not only shows the decals positioning but also the correct colours to use for the model. They are printed by Cartograph of Italy, so you can get an idea of the quality of these sheets. Both sheets only contain the national insignia, unit markings and items such as rescue arrows and intake warning triangles, there are no other stencils, which isn’t a problem as they are on the kits decal sheets. They are very well printed, in good register, slightly glossy and are nicely thin. The carrier film isn’t too intrusive except between the larger lettering and tail markings which could have been printed separately to alleviate this, but should be ok on top of a good gloss coat. SheetMS320264 contains markings for A-6A 500 BuNo.156995 of VA-95 “Green Lizards” based on-board USS Coral Sea August 1974 Sheet MS320265 contains markings for A-6A 503 BuNo.156995 of VA-115 “Arabs” based on-board USS Midway May 1973 Conclusion These are a very nice pair of decal sheets that will look great on the completed model and will make a pleasant change to the kit markings. They will certainly add a dash of colour to the standard grey and white scheme of the day. From experience, the decals should settle well with your favourite softening and setting solutions. 17. Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone knows of 1/72 scale decals and a conversion set for Canadian Avro Lancaster KB976 in MK10 AR condition as delivered to Lynn Garrison in 1964 or in her final transatlantic flight condition to Strathallan in 1975. I'd be looking at using Airfix's excellent new tool BI / BIII as the basis for the model.
  18. A while ago I acquired what I believe is a Donetsk Toy Factory Vultee Vengeance with a full set of decals (and, indeed, more recently a P-38 Lightning, likewise). Judging from information available elsewhere I believe them to be 1980s kits. My previous experience with old decals has varied from fine (Matchbox) to why-did-I-bother horrible (Novo). Does anyone have any experience with these to tell me what to expect? Many thanks, Anthony
  19. Frontier 'Stu' Rabbit A318 1:144 Draw Decal Frontier Airlines based in Denver, Colorado currently operates a fleet of Airbus A319 and A320's on services around the USA, Mexico, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic. Aside from the big 'Frontier' billboard logo down the fuselage sides, their main distinguishing feature is the series of wildlife photographs displayed on the tail fins. Each aircraft features a different animal and has its own unique name, and they make quite interesting line ups if you ever get to see them at a US airport. The Airbus A318 is the smallest of the Airbus family and proved to have poor operating economics compared with it's larger brothers, as it simply can't offer the same seat/mile costs. Very few are still in service, and it is said they they are worth more as scrap and spare parts. Frontier operated several A318's for a fairly short period, and as I wanted to add one to my Airbus collection I was really pleased to see that Draw Decal recently added a couple to their range. 'Sheldon' the Sea Turtle and 'Stu' the Rabbit are both now available (as well as others for A319's and Embraer 190's), and whilst a this years Telford I picked up a set for 'Stu'. There are a couple of options for building an A318, either the Eastern Express kit (although I have not seen one, opinions vary on its buildablity), or the Revell kit of the A319 can be converted. I will convert my own kit by shortening the fuselage & raising the fin, but if you don't like doing this there is an A318 fuselage for the Revell kit available from Contrails. Draw Decals are produced by their own 'Digital Silk' process on a sheet of constant decal film, meaning that you need to cut around each decal as you remove it from the sheet. Supplied here are the 'Frontier' billboards including cabin windows, 'Stu' the rabbit for the tail fin, static ports for the nose, 'Stars & Stripes', registration, fleet numbers, engine markings, and cockpit windows. The printing is razor sharp with perfect colour and Stu himself looks like a high quality photograph. The instructions clearly show where everything goes, with profile views for each side, and a some written instructions about the use of Digital Silk decals. Having used several of Draw's sheets I would only point out that these written instructions are good advice and there is nothing difficult or unusual in using them. In fact they give a lovely result and the carrier film all but disappears. I look forward to using these on my A318 conversion, and have already built one of Revell's A319s using Draw Decals set for 'Chloe' the fawn, and can vouch for the lovely result they give. If you are not into sawing up and converting fuselages, then you can use a Revell A319 straight from the box and apply one of several Frontier options Draw offer for it. Their service from the US to here in Europe is top notch, so don't have any doubts about ordering from them, I speak from personal experience and can say they are among the best! Highly Recommended. 20. Does anyone do decal sheets of seat belts? I am not interested in Photo etch for the seat belts on my models since I made some on a Merlin cockpit but the result after much cussing ,feeding the carpet monster & the sheer frustration of small parts I can hardly see was not what I had hoped for .After all this work the the result was "lost" under the kit transparency. I do notice that some kits supply the seat belts on the kit decals and for what I do this is fine but I am looking for a sheet that has several items on it maybe in different colours . I have thought of having a go with home made decals but my printer is a colour laser and wont do white. Any help in pointing me in the right direction gratefully received.. Rodders
  21. Hi folks, I am just trying to complete a project and the last few decals I need to apply from fox transfers are breaking up when they are wet and they are new only bought them last week,. Are there any ways i can repair them so that when I wet them to apply them the wont shatter. Any help very gratefully appreciated. Cheers Rob
  22. Hi all, I am back into modelling after YEARS off the scene and I'm trying to find a 100% idiot proof clear/gloss coat to seal the model before applying decals. I have had disaster after disaster and want to be 100% confident that when I spray the gloss coat to seal the model for decals I am not going to DESTROY/CRACK/COMPLETELY STUFF UP my paintwork. Currently I generally use Humbrol Enamel Paints for the paint scheme which is sprayed on after mixing 50:50 with humbrol enamel thinners I have tried a generic acrylic gloss coat on a test model and the enamel cracked. I have tried Tamiya clear TS-13 and that has cracked some paint. I just want something that I can put through the airbrush and spray CONFIDENTLY that it will finish okay for decaling and most importantly NOT DESTROY my previously sprayed scheme. Forget CLEAR or KLEAR or FUTURE or anything like that I cant get that in Australia. All help greatly appreciated otherwise the looney bin is the next option
  23. Hi Does anybody happen to have the newest red boxing of Airfix's old Sea King SAR http://www.airfix.com/shop/aircraft/172-scale-military-aircraft/a03043-l3043-westland-sea-king/ I'm giving up on my older boxing and making one from a Revell Sea King instead, using any bits from the Airfix if necessary. What I would like to know is if the decals in this newest box are up to Airfix's latest standard? The ones from my old box are awful and I really don't want to use them. I do have an SAR option on a Modeldecal sheet I can use but I don't mind paying Airfix for a sheet if they are worth it Cheers Chris
  24. I purchased a Merlin helicopter for £20 from a model shop and on opening I found that it had the decals missing. I emailed Italeri and they want 6 Euros for the replacements. I paid good money for the kit and I expect it to be all there. I am a bit annoyed that they think that because they have mucked up I have to pay. What does the panel think? Rodders Mods if this is in the wrong place please move.
