  1. Hallo all, this is a refugee from the De Havilland GB which I am ashamed to say I didn't complete in time. Well out of the range of my normal interests, I was taken by the combination of silver biplane and 1960s dayglo...the Modelart decals were excellent!
  2. I am sure that somewhere in Britmodellers I saw something that suggested using a pink colour as a basecoat (undecoat/primer) for dayglo orange. Am I right, or was I dreaming? I'm shortly starting an Airfix J 29 Tunnan as an Austrian service aircraft, and it requires dayglo orange in various places. If I'm wrong, I might use yellow as a base coat because the photos I have of J 29's in Austrian servic shows the orange to have a distinct yellow tinge. ( I think faded/weathered rather than applied) Can anyone confirm what I saw, or more likely that I'm wrong?
  3. I’m about to start a Classic Airframes Meteor T7, I’m building it as WH186 ‘72’ from 5AFS RAF Oakington. This aircraft was in the dayglo scheme, however I’m light on references for 50’s trainers. Xtradecals do sheet 48160 which has dayglo stripes for a TT aircraft, would the pattern be the same for trainers? If so were they carried in all positions as per Xtradecals instructions? Also aircraft carried individual numbers on the nose, what size were the numbers, were they the same as the underwing serial numbers? Ass7ming they are I’ve got enough decals to cobble together the full set using spare serial numbers. If they were different any idea how big and a source for them would be appreciated
  4. Hi Folks There have been a few top class builds of the recent Airfix Jet Provost posted in RFI of late so I decided to post my humble contribution. I give you the recent Airfix 1/72 Jet Provost T3 finished in Light Aircraft Gray(from the Mr.Hobby range) and decals from the Xtradecal set for the Airfix Kit. The hi-vis markings were for the most part ok to use but getting them to follow the curve of the leading edge of the wing was less than successful with the solid areas of dayglo decals being quite rigid and brittle which resulted in cracking and splitting of the decal. I patched up the dayglo as best I could and touched up the damaged decals with some dayglo paint. I did attempt to add some of the vents/air scoops to the fuselage but did not correct the canopy as I had finished painting before I read about the canopy framing being an internal feature, for noting on the next one. Thanks for looking
  5. Hi all, I have another build underway and it is for an overall "international orange" USAF T-bird. I use Humbrol so is their 209 appropriate? I would undercoat/primer with white. I'd appreciate your advice. Thanks. Martin
  6. Good morning all! When going to my local model shop the other day to add to my newly acquired taste (not literally-tasting paint wouldn't be very good for your health ) of Vallejo paints, I stumbled across this kit. In regards to the paints it is a major turning point for me, I have been used to the Humbrol Enamel paints since I first began modelling about 10 years ago and since my "revival" in the hobby about 3 years ago and I have found that the Vallejo paints are less resilient but provide a better coating I believe in terms of the aesthetic appearance. In addition to this, they can be dilluted with water (saving a lot of money on thinners and being better for my general health too). Anyway the kit, it was about £5 I seem to recall which is not bad at all for a newly tooled kit and dare I say, what a pleasure it was to build too! I did make a bit of a mess of it in places and I suppose it was more of an experiment piece to test different techniques and different finishes (my first time using the vallejo silver and the fluorescent red), but nevertheless I believe this is not too bad a model-if I do say so myself. So, without further rambling, here we are: Thanks for looking, Sam
