  1. I thought all of you Jug fans (and you know who you are!) would find this photo collection of interest; it shows the current status of the P-47D razorback that the Dakota Air Museum is restoring to flight. IIRC, it is an actual Republic-built P-47D, not a Curtiss-built P-47G, as are the other flyable razorback Jug survivors. Note that it will have a functioning turbosupercharger, which is very rare among all the flyable P-47's. The quality of the restoration looks to be top notch- can't wait to see her fly again! 2. I thought it might be better to post this information here, rather than in the WW2 forum where it was originally discussed in another topic discussion. What a magnificent flying boat!, now preserved at McMinnville. OR. 3. @canberra kid John, Did you know about these? Mike https://warbirdsnews.com/warbird-restorations/canberra-b-6-xh567-restoration-update-august-2021.html https://warbirdsnews.com/warbird-restorations/english-electric-canberra-tt-18-wj680-flies.html
  4. Got this just now from one of my modeling mentors who lives in Ft. Worth. I was surprised to see how many surviving Beaus there are, but sad that none of them are airworthy, Maybe one day! I hope you enjoy looking at them. An RAAF Mk 21 is one pugnacious airplane. Wonder why, with the lack of airworthy Hercules radials, if one couldn't be restored as a Mk II with Merlins? (If Paul Allen were still around...) Mike https://acesflyinghighthesurvivors.wordpress.com/2019/07/07/the-survivors-bristol-beaufighter-the-whispering-death-of-the-pacific-and-beyond/
  5. I am truly biased where this Sabre is concerned, and I think this variant was the ultimate Sabre performer, and even though I love my 8th FBG Korean War F-86F's, I think this is the most beautiful of them all! A shame she is grounded due to bang seat issues, but I am hoping she can be returned to the airshow circuit. I never had the pleasure to have seen and heard her fly, as many of you have, but I bet it was an experrience! Needless to say, we are LONG overdue for a state of the art Avon Sabre in my scale or 1/48! Mike (Texan by birth, Aussie by inclination!) https://aviationmuseum.com.au/raaf-ca-27-sabre/
  6. I thought some of you might enjoy seeing photo and video footage of two ongoing birdcage Corsair restorations. The one at the Museum of Naval Aviation will be a static display airplane, but the other will be airworthy. There is one other airworthy birdcage Corsair, but IIRC, it was built from an F4U-1A that was extensively modified to have a birdcage canopy and quarter windows. I can't believe I beat @Corsairfoxfouruncle to the punch on this one! Mike http://warbirdsnews.com/warbird-restorations/birdcage-corsair-restoration-update.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgEKLO94Ujg http://warbirdsnews.com/warbirds-news/aussie-corsair-restoration-update-pt-2.html
  7. Did any of you know about this? I can't wait to see the finished product! Looks like another modeling project for Tony! Mike http://warbirdsnews.com/aviation-museum-news/handley-page-hampden-fuselage-whole-again-at-raf-museum-cosford.html
  8. Found this just now while trolling for schemes; evidently a B5N2 recovered from Papua, New Guinea is being restored to static display status. See the link below as well as an additional link to this aircraft's history. I would rather see a TBD, but the Kate was also a very historically significant aircraft, and just as rare.
